Eleven Things Every Witch Should Know

Eleven Things Every Witch Should Know

1. Magic is what happens when you open yourself to the Divine. All real magic is
a manifestation of the Divine – it is how you co-create reality with deity.

2. The Divine is within you and is everywhere present in the natural world. And
everything is interconnected by this sacred energy.

3. Wicca is not about information — it’s about transformation, so practice,
practice, practice — and do it as much as possible in Nature! Witchcraft
enables you to commune with divinity and to manifest your destiny, your desires
and your highest and sacred self.

4. The real ethics of how Witches live and practice magic are simple: Witches
live in a sacred manner because we live in a sacred world. We therefore treat
all of life with reverence and respect.

5. Because all magic flows from our connection to the Sacred, our lives and our
magic, must be guided by the sacred nature of the energy with which we work.

6. The energy Witches work with is not neutral — it is divine love.

7. Magic often works in unexpected way because it is not a mechanical process,
and the Universe is not a machine. You are living and making magic within a
divine, organic, living reality.

8. Witches don’t command and control — they commune and co-create.

9. The real secret of successful spellcasting, as with all of magic, is your
connection to the Divine power that dwells within you, and surrounds you. And
spells do work so be careful what you ask for!

10. Nature makes the Divine tangible. By working, living, and practicing your
magic in harmony with Nature, you are in harmony with the Divine.

11. The ultimate teacher is the God/Goddess inside you and in the world of
Nature all around you.

Explanation: This Navcam mosaic from Perseverance looks out over the car-sized rover’s deck, across the floor of Jezero crater on Mars. Frames used to construct the mosaic view were captured on mission sol 354. That corresponds to Earth calendar date February 17, 2022, nearly one Earth year after the rover’s landing. With a mass of over 1,000 kilograms, six-wheeled Perseverance is the heaviest rover to touch down on Mars. During its first year of exploration the rover has collected six (so far) rock core samples for later return to planet Earth, served as the base station for Ingenuity, the first helicopter on Mars, and tested MOXIE (Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment), converting some of the Red Planet’s thin, carbon dioxide-rich atmosphere into oxygen.

Moon Alert

Avoid shopping or making important decisions after 10 PM EST today (7 PM PST). The Moon is in Sagittarius.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This is an interesting day! You might meet someone new who is fascinating or different from you. You might even fall in love with someone. Perhaps someone you know will do something that surprises you? Meanwhile, you make a marvellous impression on important people. Bonus!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

A discussion with a parent, boss, teacher or the police might be exciting today. (Certainly, different.) Meanwhile, you might develop a crush on someone “different”. Or instead, some of you will yearn to travel and escape somewhere with white sands and turquoise waters. Oh yeah.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Travel plans sound exciting; however, they might suddenly change today. You might have to travel when you did not expect to do so; or, scheduled plans might be delayed or cancelled. Expect generosity from others. Meanwhile, romance sizzles!

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Relations with those who are closest to you are warm and friendly today. In fact, your dealings with a spouse or partner will be romantic in an idealized way. Meanwhile, news about inheritances or shared property might be exciting or unexpected. Stay tuned!

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Because you feel friendly and concerned for a coworker today, you will help them if they need assistance. (You’re a generous sign.) This could be a two-way street; and perhaps, someone is helping you instead? You might also put out some effort to make your workspace look more attractive. Meanwhile, someone has a surprise for you.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This is a wonderful day for romance. Enjoy a long lunch or a special dinner or an evening out. Others will feel very tenderhearted toward children today. Grab every chance to appreciate the arts and enjoy the entertainment world. Expect a few surprises!

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You will enjoy tweaking your digs and redecorating where you live today. You will also enjoy entertaining at home because warm feelings, especially with family members, will promote good times and happy exchanges. However, something unpredictable with kids or your social plans might go south. Be prepared.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Something unexpected might impact your home or a family member today. This might be surprising news? Fortunately, you are in a warm and understanding state of mind so that whatever happens, you will take it in your stride. Today you appreciate the beauty of your surroundings.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

If shopping today, you will want to buy beautiful things for yourself and loved ones. It’s possible that you will attract money to you. Meanwhile, this is a restless day because your mind is flitting from subject to subject. This is why you might be impulsive and a bit excited.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Your words are so charming today that you can convince anyone to agree with you. (You sound so reasonable!) Keep an eye on financial matters as well as your own money and possessions because things are unpredictable when it comes to your assets today. Stay sharp.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

You might attract money to you today; or you might have moneymaking ideas, especially related to the arts. If spending money, you will buy art or beautiful things. Meanwhile, you will be intrigued by something new and different today, which is good because you’re ready for some excitement.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

People are attracted to you today. They enjoy your company because you are especially friendly and charming to everyone. Ironically, personally you feel a bit nervous and scattered. (It doesn’t show.) Guard against rash judgments or quick actions. Think before you say or do anything.

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actor, rapper O’Shea Jackson Jr. (1991) shares your birthday today. You are an interesting conversationalist because you can be charming in a quirky way. New directions and personal growth will happen easily. Seek out new opportunities.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS ON FEBRUARY 24, then you possess a charitable and supportive nature that is the typical Piscean. Since your birthday horoscope sign is Pisces, you have an overflow of creative ability and know what you want out of life. Not many of us can say that. You are very original in your ideas and love to play with innovative schemes.

Nevertheless, sometimes, you cannot make up your mind about which goal to pursue next. Everything you set out to do is based on making your world a better place.

There is nothing wrong with this, as you have to live with your choices in life. It is better to say that you tried than not to have anything to say. You who were born on this day try to stay positive Pisceans.

Pisces with birthday February 24 are very charming. To say that you have a few friends would be an understatement. You make friends that come from all classes and cultures. Your simple ability to gain the trust of people makes you a great candidate to work in the social affairs department within an organization.

If today is your birthday, you care about the welfare of others and would take a cut in salary to be able to perform these duties. You have the remarkable ability to master budgeting, and you stay away from charge accounts if at all possible. You believe it is not how much you make but rather how you spend your earnings.

In relationships, people with a February 24 birthday desire a long-term romance. You can fall in love numerous times. You are a giver, so you like to please your partner. You as a Pisces so you tend to put your lover first, however, making sacrifices that could prove to be of a disadvantage.

I know you say you do not mind taking a back seat, but you hold your disappointment inside which can wear you down mentally. Maybe you should look at why you make such allegiances that are not to your liking.

In the meantime, your birthday love astrology asks you to make your ideal partner list of requirements realistically to avoid displeasure, irritation, and confrontations.

Some of the best attributes of a Pisces birthday on 24 February, are that you are non-judgmental. Your attitude is that everyone desires equality and justice. Your kind heart could be a strength or a weakness. As a result, you cannot be in ten places at one time.

Pisces, you are good but not that good. Stop spreading yourself so thin that it gives you headaches or to the point that you detach from others. When you suffer, others suffer with you. Focus, dear Pisces, on your aspirations. Do not let small issues come in your way.

According to your birthday meaning, you are creative and can exercise your natural ability to bring harmony into the lives of others. You instinctively want to be helpful. This is why people love you.

Sometimes though, you can be inconclusive and self-centered. Just be straightforward, and you will be able to walk through your decision-making process with confidence.

Can we talk about your health? since your zodiac birthday is Pisces, there is a need to find a more practical approach to maintaining what you have. The body, inside and out, needs a workout. This is not something you can do once or twice a month. Eating right, getting your rest and exercising should be a part of a routine.

There is no overnight success story when it comes to preserving your body. There is no such thing as a magic potion that will quickly give you the results necessary to live a healthy and long life. Get off the stick and get on the ball, Pisces. It’s time to bounce.

Concluding, Pisces, those of you who were born on February 24, are charitable people. You need to put your goals and desires first, and then you can make others happy. If it makes you miserable, you can be of no use to anyone. Take care and start exercising and eating right. You have all the necessary equipment to live a long life.

Beautiful Albireo AB

Explanation: Beta Cygni is a single bright star to the naked eye. About 420 light-years away it marks the foot of the Northern Cross, famous asterism in the constellation Cygnus. But a view through the eyepiece of a small telescope will transform it into a beautiful double star, a treasure of the night sky in blue and gold. Beta Cygni is also known as Albireo, designated Albireo AB to indicate its two bright component stars. Their visually striking color difference is illustrated in this telescopic snapshot, along with their associated visible spectrum of starlight shown in insets to the right. Albireo A, top inset, shows the spectrum of a K-type giant star, cooler than the Sun and emitting most of its energy at yellow and red wavelengths. Below, Albireo B has the spectrum of a main sequence star much hotter than the Sun, emitting more energy in blue and violet. Albireo A is known to be a binary star, two stars together orbiting a common center of mass, though the two stars are too close together to be seen separately with a small telescope. Well-separated Albireo A and B most likely represent an optical double star and not a physical binary system because the two components have clearly different measured motions through space.

Orion over Green Bank

Image Credit & Copyright: Dave Green

Explanation: What will the huge Green Bank Telescope discover tonight? Pictured, the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT) on the lower right is the largest fully-pointable single-dish radio telescope in the world. With a central dish larger than a football field, the GBT is nestled in the hills of West VirginiaUSA in a radio quiet zone where the use of cell phones, WiFi emitters, and even microwave ovens are limited. The GBT explores our universe not only during the night — but during the day, too, since the daytime sky is typically dark in radio waves. Taken in late January, the featured image was planned for months to get the setting location of Orion just right. The image is a composite of a foreground shot taken over a kilometer away from the GBT, and a background shot built up of long exposures during the previous night. The deep background image of Orion is fitting because the GBT is famous for, among many discoveries, mapping the unusual magnetic field in the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex.

February 23, 2022 Daily Correspondence Digest for the Northern Hemisphere’s Moon Phase and Planetary Positions

You can use this link to go forward or backward in time for Moon phase information. If you are curious, you can even find out what phase the Moon was in when you or anyone else was born.

From Moongiant.com

Today and tonight the Moon will be in a Third Quarter phase. Sometimes called a Last Quarter Moon, this phase occurs roughly 3 weeks after the New Moon when the Moon is three quarter of the way through it’s orbit around the earth. If you live in the northern hemisphere the Moons left side will be illuminated and the right side will be dark. For those of you in the southern hemisphere it will be the opposite with the right side illuminated. On the day of the Third Quarter phase the Moon will rise around midnight on the eastern horizon and set in the west around noon the next day. In the days following the Third Quarter Phase the Moon’s illumination will decrees each day until the New Moon.

Visit the February 2022 Moon Phases Calendar to see all the daily moon phase for this month.

Would You Have Been Called A Witch In Salem?

The Salem witch trials — a period of mass hysteria and panic that overtook colonial Massachusetts between 1692 and 1693 — are often regarded as one of the most fascinating episodes of American history. After all, the story is so dramatic and so strange that it almost reads like fiction: Young girls begin having mysterious screaming fits; they are diagnosed as having been bewitched, and soon a hunt begins for the witches. Although the Salem witch trials are now the source of scary stories and creepy TV shows, it’s important that we remember that they were real, and they were terrible: twenty people were killed for being “witches”, and many more were accused and imprisoned.

It’s fairly horrifying to consider how easy it was for a woman to be convicted and executed for witchcraft in the 17th century—and just how little power she had to prove her innocence. As Marilynne K. Roach, historian and author of Six Women of Salem: the Untold Story of the Accused and Their Accusers in the Salem Witch Trials, explains, “In 1692 anyone might have been accused of witchcraft.” There are some factors that made one more susceptible to accusations than others, however. Read on to see if you fit the parameters of these supposed “witches” and thank your lucky stars that you don’t live in the 17th century.

8 Famous Witches From Mythology and Folklore

Ancient mythology and folklore is filled with witches, including the Bible’s Witch of Endor and Russian folklore’s Baba Yaga. These enchantresses are known for their magic and trickery, which is sometimes used for good and sometimes for mischief.

The Witch of Endor

The Christian Bible has an injunction against practicing witchcraft and divination, and that can probably be blamed on the Witch of Endor. In the first Book of Samuel, King Saul of Israel got in some trouble when he sought assistance from the witch and asked her to predict the future. Saul and his sons were about to march into battle against their enemies, the Philistines, and Saul decided it was time to get a bit of supernatural insight as to what was going to happen the next day. Saul started off by asking God for help, but God stayed mum…and so Saul took it upon himself to seek answers elsewhere.

According to the Bible, Saul summoned the witch of Endor, who was a well-known medium in the area. Disguising himself so she wouldn’t know she was in the presence of the king, Saul asked the witch to revive the dead prophet Samuel so that he might tell Saul what was going to happen.

Who was the witch of Endor? Well, like many other biblical figures, no one really knows. Though her identity is lost to myth and legend, she has managed to appear in more contemporary literature. Geoffrey Chaucer makes reference to her in The Canterbury Talesin the tale spun by the friar to entertain his fellow pilgrims. The Friar tells his listeners:

“Yet tell me,” said the summoner, “if true:
Do you make your new bodies always so
Out of the elements?” The fiend said, “No,
Sometimes it’s only some form of disguise;
Dead bodies we may enter that arise
To speak with all the reason and as well
As to the Endor witch spoke Samuel.”

One of the best-known mythological mistresses of mayhem is Circe, who appears in The Odyssey. According to the story, Odysseus and his Achaeans found themselves fleeing the land of the Laestrygonians. After a group of Odysseus’ scouts were captured and eaten by the Laestrygonian king, and nearly all of his ships sunk by large boulders, the Achaeans ended up on the shore of Aeaea, home to the witch-goddess Circe.

Circe was well known for her magical mojo, and had quite the reputation for her knowledge of plants and potions. According to some accounts, she may have been the daughter of Helios, the sun god, and one of the Oceanids, but she is sometimes referred to as a daughter of Hecate, the goddess of magic.

Circe turned Odysseus’ men into pigs, and so he set off to rescue them. Before he got there, he was visited by the messenger god, Hermes, who told him how to defeat the seductive Circe. Odysseus followed Hermes’ helpful hints, and overpowered Circe, who turned the men back into men… and she then became Odysseus’ lover. After a year or so of luxuriating in Circe’s bed, Odysseus finally figured out he should head back home to Ithaca, and his wife, Penelope. The lovely Circe, who may or may not have borne Odysseus a couple of sons, gave him directions that sent him all over the place, including on a side quest to the Underworld.

After Odysseus’ death, Circe used her magic potions to bring her late lover back to life.

February 21 Astronomy Picture of the Day

Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer.

2022 February 21

This is the first image of a celestial object taken with the newly repaired Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS). The camera was restored to operation during the STS-125 Servicing Mission to upgrade the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. The barred spiral galaxy NGC 6217 was photographed on 13 June and 8 July 2009, as part of the initial testing and calibration of Hubble’s ACS. The galaxy lies up to 90 million light-years away in the north circumpolar constellation Ursa Major.

Explanation: Many spiral galaxies have bars across their centers. Even our own Milky Way Galaxy is thought to have a modest central bar. Prominently barred spiral galaxy NGC 6217, featured here, was captured in spectacular detail in this image taken by the Advanced Camera for Surveys on the orbiting Hubble Space Telescope in 2009. Visible are dark filamentary dust lanes, young clusters of bright blue stars, red emission nebulas of glowing hydrogen gas, a long bar of stars across the center, and a bright active nucleus that likely houses a supermassive black hole. Light takes about 60 million years to reach us from NGC 6217, which spans about 30,000 light years across and can be found toward the constellation of the Little Bear (Ursa Minor).

Printable Celtic Tree Calendar

The Celtic Tree Calendar – following the lunar cycle

Click here to read more about the 13 months of the Celtic Tree Calendar from Ireland-Calling.com

The Celtic Tree Calendar is based on the ogham alphabet and its association with trees.

It consists of 13 months, each 28 days long, following the lunar cycle, as Roman accounts have suggested the Druids did, with one extra day representing the 23rd December, the ‘Day of Creation’.

Each of the 13 months is represented by a tree together with its ogham letter.

The calendar was conceived by the British poet and scholar Robert Graves. It was an idea put forward in his book The White Goddess, a historical grammar of poetic myth, first published in 1948.

The book focused on the mythology of Ireland, Britain, Europe and the Middle East, interpreting it in Grave’s individual and poetic style.

As historical accounts of ancient Druids are scarce, many of Graves’ ideas regarding the Celtic Tree Calendar were based on the works of Irish historian Ruaidhrí Ó Flaithbheartaigh, (Roderick O’Flaherty). Ó Flaithbheartaigh had published Ogygia in 1685, an elaborate history of Ireland that journeys back to the time of myths and legends and contains within it a chapter on understanding the ancient ogham alphabet.

Graves’ works may also have been influenced by the 14th century Book of Ballymote which contains a chapter on the ogham in which many varieties of the alphabet appear in the form of several diagrams thought to be used as secret codes.

Although the calendar is quite new in a historical sense, its influences lie within ancient Celtic mythology and folklore. It is a beautiful example of how modern spiritual beliefs and the customs of ancient times can be combined to form something enchanting.
