Daily Feng Shui News for Jan. 1st – ‘New Year’s Eats’

Happy New Year! I wish you the most magical and wonderful 2014 you can ever hope to have. Towards that same end, you may want to follow an ages-old tradition that promises to put that wish in action. Legend says that on this day a grand feast should be eaten that includes salmon (for long life and wisdom), cabbage (for fortune and riches), and mandarin oranges (for good health and even better luck). Nutritional experts agree that eating fish is good for the brain, cabbage for the liver and oranges are filled with vitamin C to help support your healthy immune system. Bon appetit. Bon New Year!

Astrology Inspired New Year Resolutions

Keep your New Year Resolutions with help from the stars

Sally Philips   Sally Philips on the topics of new year, astrology

It’s that time of year again, when we all promise to correct our bad habits and become perfect people. Riiiiight! As we all know, New Year resolutions are made to be broken … but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t make them.

Whether we stick to them is not always the point. It’s more about adjusting our focus each year to gain greater awareness. Little by little, that awareness can help us clean up our mucky areas and get closer to living the lives we desire.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

If one of your resolutions last year was to finish projects that are still sitting on your shelf, it’s time to box them up and make room for a brand new endeavor. Here’s the resolution you will need to make it a success: I won’t start a new project until I finish the one I’m working on.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Your fixed energy makes you great at follow through, but it can also keep you stuck in bad habits. Resolve to tackle a few of your worst ones this year. If you are true to your resolutions for just three months, you will be well on your way to breaking even the most stubborn habit.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Your whirlwind life can be a lot of fun — and it certainly isn’t boring — but it might serve you well to slow down this coming year. Even though patience isn’t your strong suit, try adding a dash of it here and there. It will help you make progress in areas where your bouncy energy has actually been holding you back.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

You love your routines and your security, but it’s time to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. Resolve to reach out into unknown territory and see what you find this year. If it feels scary, remember that you’re just coming up on an edge where you need to stretch.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)

Have you used your irresistible charms to capture emotional prisoners this past year? If you’re a player — and you know who you are — resolve to be more devoted this year. Open up that big heart of yours and take your relationships to a deeper level.

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22)

Nag, nag, nag … the only time you stop is when you’re nitpicking. Okay, that’s a huge exaggeration … but chances are you’ve gotten on someone’s case a little too often this past year. Resolve to lighten up this year and let others take care of dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)

As hard as you try, you can’t have it both ways. Promise yourself you will make firmer decisions this coming year. You can still weigh all of your alternatives, but when it comes down to the line, make up your mind and stick to it. Your friends and colleagues will breathe a sigh of relief.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)

Keeping secrets adds to your mysterious allure, but there’s a limit. If you’re using your power to manipulate others, that’s where it needs to end. Resolve to be more transparent with those close to you this year. Let them in on your deepest secrets and enjoy the fruits of greater intimacy.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

You’re good at thinking big and you shouldn’t change that this year … but you might want to put more time into developing strategies that will help you reach your lofty goals. Remember — a goal without a plan is just a dream — so make this the year you follow through.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)

Here’s your mantra-resolution: It’s not all about money. Keep pursuing the almighty dollar if you like, but also take time to smell the roses that line your path to success. Your friends and family need you. Resolve to be more generous with your time and attention.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)

Even though we all love your quirkiness, it wouldn’t hurt to develop a bit more tolerance for the traditional. As it’s the flip side of where you usually put your energy, it may feel uncomfortable. But you shine when it comes to breaking the mold, so surprise everyone (again!) with a side of you they’ve never seen.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20)

This is the year to put your compassion to better use. Resolve to find a project where you can help others in need. Your understanding and supportive nature is a gift you need to give on a regular basis. Reach out and extend it beyond your friends and family.

New Moon in Capricorn Horoscopes

New Moon in Capricorn Horoscopes

Short and long-term concerns

Jeff Jawer   Jeff Jawer on the topics of new moon, horoscopes, Capricorn, astrology

The ordinarily well-organized Capricorn New Moon on January 1, 2014, New Year’s Day, occurs right in the midst of other intense planetary connections. Provocative Pluto joins the Sun and Moon while aggressive Mars, revolutionary Uranus and expansive Jupiter form stressful aspects to this union. Chaos and uncertainty are undesirable effects, yet flexible-but-committed people can ride these powerful forces to professional and personal breakthroughs as we kick off the new year. Keep reading to see what your sign can expect.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

Career issues are likely to break out suddenly within the coming four weeks as this New Moon in Capricorn lands in your 10th House of Profession. Resentment of rules, boring routines, and authority figures could trigger explosive responses. It’s fine to recognize that you need more stimulating work, but it is wiser to be strategic in making plans than to allow an impulsive reaction to force you to make changes before you’re ready.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Your vision of the future could be shaken with this volatile New Moon in your 9th House of Higher Truth. Challenging your beliefs is to be expected and will be healthier if you’re the one making this happen. You can free yourself of outmoded expectations as light bulbs of awareness go off in your head now. The realization that additional education may be needed to reach your new and loftier goals could even send you back to school.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Whatever agreements and understandings you have with other people could be shaken up with this wild and crazy New Moon. The normally reliable Capricorn lunation lands in your 8th House of Deep Sharing where financial and romantic alliances are ripe for breakdowns or breakthroughs. If you’re seeking a partner one may suddenly appear, yet it’s best to think long and hard before making any lasting commitments.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Relationships are rocked by this volatile Capricorn New Moon in your 7th House of Partners. Reliable people may suddenly become unavailable, although it’s also possible that your interest in sticking to the status quo will disappear. Experimenting in who you connect with and how you work or play together reduces the stress of trying to stick to an old plan or stay on track when your needs and circumstances suddenly change.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)

This explosive Sun-Moon conjunction occurs in your 6th House of Employment, Health and Daily Routines. Expect shakeups in these areas of life, which can be exciting and liberating if you’re willing to change. Curiosity and flexibility are better allies than persistence and loyalty under these circumstances. Developing new skills is an excellent way to tap into the powerful shifts that are likely to happen now.

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22)

A fresh and bold approach to presenting your professional ideas and sharing your romantic desires is appropriate at this time. This is an exciting and volatile New Moon in your 5th House of Performance that could alter the ways that you express yourself. Giving yourself permission to explore and play instead of taking yourself so seriously reduces pressure and should provide you with more creativity, fun and freedom.

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)

Family matters and security issues can explode suddenly with this electrifying New Moon in your 4th House of Roots. Secrets may be exposed and emotions expressed that have been too intense to share before. Giving yourself the liberty to think and feel outside the box can reveal different ways to feel at ease where you are, or to make the bold moves needed to find security in more stimulating forms.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)

Surprising sources of information can open up with this dynamic New Moon in your 3rd House of Communication. Secrets may be exposed, which can help to clear the air in personal matters. But this is also a chance to open your mind to different subjects and to express yourself more freely. Reactions to what you say or hear, though, can be very strong so temper your words and slow your response time to maintain peace.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

Financial issues could take a sudden turn with this electrifying Capricorn New Moon in your 2nd House of Assets. While this might be unsettling when it comes to money, it can also awaken you to new and different ways to boost your income. If you have talents that haven’t been fully exploited, this is a time when you can recover old abilities and apply them to put more excitement and, perhaps, more cash into your life.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)

This New Moon in your sign is a time when you could feel like you’re starting over. You generally prefer to stick to plans and carefully build on what you’ve done before. Yet while this lunation marks a radical departure from the past that might feel alienating, it also offers you a chance to alter your attitude, approach, and appearance in ways that make you more appealing to others and more interesting to yourself.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)

Don’t freak out if you encounter ghosts from the past during the next four weeks. This explosive New Moon lands in your 12th House of Spirituality and Secrets where unfaced issues and unfinished business can grab your attention. It’s wise to pull back and take all the time you need to reflect upon your life. The potential for breakthroughs increases when you allow yourself to imagine a radically different future.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20)

Your connections with friends and colleagues may require some adjustments as this transformative New Moon lands in your 11th House of Groups. Chaos within organizations or unreliability among pals and co-workers can cause sudden shifts that shake your relationships. Holding on tightly to the past is won’t reduce stress and increase opportunities, but giving yourself the freedom to let go and move on will.

Current Moon Phase – New Moon

New Moon

(waxing/4% of illumination)

The New Moon is a time best suited for new beginnings! For the first 48 hours following the exact time of the New Moon each month, a window of opportunity opens for making wishes that, if noted, come true in the days and months ahead. There is a tremendous amount of enthusiasm in the atmosphere, making it a great time to go forward and begin projects that you feel instinctively attracted to initiating. Follow your impulses and let yourself make new starts in areas that are important to you.

To The Ancestors…..

The Winter fire was an echo of the Sun–of life itself. During the Winter, our ancestors gave thanks to the slowly increasing power of the Sun as the year made its steady climb toward Spring and Summer. To do this, they’d raise a glass of beer or ale before the Winter fire as a sign of respect. Using your favorite beverage you can continue this custom.

No matter if your Winter fire consists of one candle, or a roaring blaze of oak and hickory logs, let is power you magic with its light.

Daily OM for December 31st – Putting Yourself First

Putting Yourself First

Daily Self-Care

by Madisyn Taylor

Putting yourself first means that it may be necessary to say no to someone else in order to say yes to yourself.

We have all heard the instructions of an airline attendant reminding us to put on our own oxygen mask before we help anyone else with theirs. This advice is often cited as a metaphor for self-care because it so accurately expresses why it is important. It seems to say, iron

ically, that if you can’t take care of yourself for yourself, do it for others. Few situations in our daily lives mimic the wake-up call of an airplane emergency, so it’s easy to keep putting self-care off—easy, that is, until we get sick, overwhelmed, or exhausted, and suddenly don’t have the energy to care for the people who count on us. That’s when we realize we haven’t been getting the oxygen we need to sustain ourselves. We begin to understand that taking care of ourselves is neither selfish nor indulgent; it’s just plain practical.

Putting yourself first means that it may be necessary to say no to someone else in order to say yes to yourself. For many of us, there is always something we feel we could be doing for someone else, and it helps to remember the oxygen metaphor. You can even encourage yourself by saying “I am caring for myself so that I am better able to care for others or some other mantra that will encourage you. It also helps to remember that self-care doesn’t have to be composed of massively time-consuming acts. In fact, the best prescription for taking care of yourself is probably small, daily rituals; for example, taking one half-hour for yourself at the beginning and end of the day to meditate, journal, or just be. You might also transform the occasional daily shower or bath into a half-hour self-pampering session.

Whatever you decide, making some small gesture where you put yourself first every day will pay off in spades for you and the ones you love. The oxygen you need is all around you; sometimes you just need to be reminded to breathe.

Daily Feng Shui News for Dec. 31 – ‘New Year’s Eve Traditions’

Happy New Year’s Eve! If you want to attract more money in the coming year, then clean out your wallet of all old receipts and fill it with twenty-seven one dollar bills and forty-nine coins. Don’t forget to open your front door at midnight and throw both money and orange peels into the entryway. Leave them there until January second. The word ‘orange’ in Mandarin Chinese sounds exactly like the word for ‘gold,’ something it’s believed to attract. Opening all of the doors and the windows at midnight will also allow old or stuck energies to depart while inviting healthy, fresh and abundant ones to come and stay for the whole of your next fortune-filled New Year.

There will be no Calendar of the Moon today. I can’t tell you why but it is just one of those things (more like shock). Calendar of the Sun for December 31

Calendar of the Sun

31 Yulmonath

Hogmanay

Color: Brown
Element: Earth
Altar: Upon a brown cloth set symbols of all the projects around the house that need to be finished, as well as a bottle of wine or beer and cups.
Offerings: Cleaning and finishing projects.
Daily Meal: Leftovers.

Hogmanay Invocation

We stand at the turning of the year,
In the place predicted by the Fates.
We are here because this time, this place
Is where we were destined to be,
Though we never knew before this moment,
We could not have seen this time and place.
Yet here we are, standing together with each other,
Hand to hand, soul to soul, with open eyes.
Yet well we know that nothing lasts forever,
And things well begun should not be left half done.
So it is that we shall take up the tools
And finish those things left undone,
Tying up the strings of our existence
Before the turning of the New Year
And the coming of the Fates yet again.
Hail to the Fates! We await your day,
And the next year, to see what it may bring.

(Each goes forth and takes up the symbol of some thing that is yet undone around the House, and declares that they will do it, and what it will mean for them to complete that task. Then the wine is shared around, a toast is made to the new year, and the rest is poured out as a libation.)

Magickal Activity for New Year’s Eve – Balloon Magick

Magickal Activity for New Year’s Eve

Balloon Magick

You will need a helium-filled balloon for each participant, string, and a small square of paper. Each balloon chosen should be a color that reflects the individual’s desire (see the following chart below).

Red:  Courage, strength, and power

Gree: Money, luck, and personal goals

Pink: Friendship and love

Orange: Attaction and action

Blue: Creativity and peace

Black: Protection and release

Yellow: Selling and communication

White: Spiritual and psychic awareness

Ten minutes before the hour of midnight, each person writes a wish on a small square of paper. Using the string, attach the paper to the balloon. At the stroke of midnight, each participant chants the following and then releases a balloon:

“Float now free, Bring to me, What I wish. So Mote It Be!”

Once the balloon has been released, it is best not to dwell on the wish but to let it go so that it will manifest.

The New Year has always been looked to with great anticipation and celebration. In the past, New Year’s festivities were supposed to ward off the barrenness of Winter and insure the fertility of Spring

Celebrating Spirituality 365 Days A Year – Mumming, New Year’s Eve, Hogmany

Celebrating Spirituality 365 Days A Year

December 30 and 31

Mumming, New Year’s Eve, Hogmany

The end of December ushers in the New Year, a time of anticipation and celebration. For our pre-Christian ancestors, most of the New Year’s festivities were designed to ward off the barrenness of Winter and insure the fertility of Spring. This was accomplished with the actual or symbolic killing of the king of the old year and the welcoming of a new king—a metaphor still dramatized in the popular British mumming play.

It was during the 19th century, when the hustle of the Christmas Day celebrations were over and the new year was fast approaching, that the mummers took to the streets, pubs, and private homes to act our their plays. Masked and costumed, they portrayed three different themes: the Hero-Combat of St. George, the “Sword Dance,” and the Plough or Wooing play. Of the three, the Hero-Combat was the most favored.

The central part of the play begins with the Hero fighting an opposing champion or, occasionally a whole succession of enemies—the Black Prince, the Turkish Knight, or the Bold Slasher. After a spirited battle, in most but not all cases, the villain is slain. Suddenly a doctor appears, who boast lengthily (with a great deal of buffoonery) of his skill and travels, after which the dead man suddenly regenerates. Once the mummers have been paid, they journey to their next performance.

It might not be as well know as Christmas or New Year’s Eve, but Hogmanay is still celebrated in parts of England and Scotland. Although the word Hogmanay has never been satisfactorily established, it very well may come from the Anglo-Saxon Haleg Monath (Holy Month) or from the giant Gogmagog or Hogmagog, guardians of the cities of London and Plymouth. For the most part, Hogmanay is met with massive enthusiasm. Parties are held, people ring bells, fireworks are set off, and everyone makes a conscious effort to make a clean break with the past by making New Year’s resolutions.

Scotland has always made more of Hogmanay than England and still has a variety of customs associated with the holiday. Some of these include divination, of which Bibliomancy is the most popular. The Family Bible is prayed over, and then the person Seeking his or her future will open the Bible at random. Without looking, a verse is marked with the index finger and then read. Whatever the verse discusses will be the person’s fortune for the year. Another popular custom is to open the back door of the home and then close it just before midnight to let out all of the bad luck. At the stroke of midnight, the  front door is then opened to let in the good luck. Finally, Hogmanay is a favored time for predicting the weather by observing the direction of the wind with this old Scots rhyme:

“If New Year’s Eve night-wind blow south, That betokens warmths and growth. If
west, much milk, and fish in the sea, If north, much cold and storms will be. If east,
the trees will bear much fruit, If north-east, flee it, man and brute.”

December 30 – Daily Feast

December 30 – Daily Feast

We move now toward a new year. It gives reason to think who we are and what we are about. Do we reach eagerly toward the future or does it frighten us with its weapons and voices and anger? Think long and hard about this, for it reveals your state of existence. A person cannot go on thinking “someday” and change anything. But to say that this day is the day to make changes and to bring one’s own personal spirit into alignment, that is an accomplishment. Some feel they are not good enough to be any different. But what they don’t realize is that making the effort to change makes them good enough. A person can’t get there until he takes an action.

Current Moon Phase for December 30th – Waning Crescent

Crescent Moon

(waning /4% of Full)

This is a time to rest, reevaluate and reflect, pulling back into yourself to reconnect with inner sources of strength. Now is not a time to initiate anything new. It’s a phase suited to spending time with friends and getting in touch with the “big picture.” A window of opportunity exists for seeing your life objectively and becoming aware of what is important to you. At this point, what are your dreams and aspirations? What larger goals can you aspire to that will bring vitality and excitement into your life? This is a time for resting and gaining inner strength to prepare for a new cycle.

Welcome Back Friends & Family! It’s Been A While To Say The Least, LOL!

Good Morning my dear, dear family & friends! How are you doing today? I hope fantastic. It is good to be back with you. You know it doesn’t take long for your body parts to get stiff.  I am talking about my fingers, good grief! Next time, I get sick I am going to remember to exercise the old fingers, stiff, stiff, stiff! But seriously, I want to take a moment to thank everyone of you for the warm wishes and prayers that you have sent our way. We deeply appreciate them. It is amazing after I did the post yesterday, I was still feeling a lousy. Then last night, I could feel this warm glow come over me. I suddenly started to feel better. I truly believe that is was from your prayers that the Goddess was answering. Thank you! You are the best bunch of witches I have ever known and I am honored to call you family and friends. I love you, I cannot tell you enough. I would ask that you please continue to pray for us. We aren’t out of the woods yet. I talked to my daughter (she is a nurse) and she was telling how people got to feeling better then they suddenly went down hill and in the hospital. I know one thing, I do not want to end up in the hospital. Your continued prayers are definitely appreciate.

So, my sweets, let’s get this show on the road…..

Have a great day and remember we love you more than you will ever know,

The Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice

The darkest day makes way for the return of light

Tarotcom Staff   Tarotcom Staff on the topics of winter solstice, capricorn, astrology
December 21, 2013 marks the Winter Solstice, which is the official beginning of winter, and the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. But there’s a light at the end of this tunnel — literally! As the temperatures fall throughout the winter, the light grows, representing new hope during a time of darkness.

Ancient solstice festivals were the last big feasts before food became scarce during the harsh winter months. This magical day was celebrated from ancient Rome to China, and by the builders of Stonehenge to the Mayans. In fact, we all remember the Winter Solstice on December 21, 2012, which was the apparent end of the Mayan calendar, causing many to believe the end of the world is coming. Obviously, we’re still here!

Many modern holiday traditions, such as Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and New Year’s, have their roots in the Winter Solstice celebrations of yesterday. Winter festivals continue today, complete with lights, feasts, dancing and singing, and spending quality time with those we love.

Astrologically, the Winter Solstice marks the moment the Sun — the ruler of the zodiac — moves from adventurous Fire sign Sagittarius to the steady Earth sign of Capricorn. This is the dark night of the year, a day when the Sun appears to stand still. It’s a time for light and laughter, but also deep reflection.

The Sun’s move into steady Capricorn urges us to take some time to look back on 2013 before we make those New Year’s resolutions. What did we do right? What do we wish we’d done differently? Don’t fight the seriousness it brings to the festive holiday season — use it to start 2014 on the right foot! Just make sure to keep some of the Goat’s ambitious energy alive when the Sun makes its next move.

Mercury in Capricorn

Mercury in Capricorn

Forge ahead with those New Year’s resolutions!

Tarotcom Staff  Tarotcom Staff on the topics of mercury, capricorn, astrology

Cerebral Mercury’s move into responsible Capricorn on Christmas Eve — December 24, 2013 — kicks off an excellent time for thinking rationally and communicating more clearly.

This will be a great time to get our thoughts back in order and find the motivation needed to keep moving forward on those New Year’s resolutions.

Mercury, the planet of communication and mental activity, keeps us more focused on being practical when it’s in earthy Capricorn. Organization is important here, so that we can put all the pieces together and look at the big picture. Once we do that, we can turn our goals into reality!

Mercury in Capricorn is acutely aware of everyone’s place, which means that conversation may become more about who’s in charge than how to get things done. Sensitivity to communication and control is strong during this period. Casual remarks are not associated with this placement — if you’re going to say something, you better have a good reason.

We all see reality for what it is during this time, but we’re also prone to pessimism. It’s important to keep in mind that not everything is black-and-white, and open yourself to seeing the shades of grey. And remember, a half-empty glass is still half full.

Winter Solstice, Midwinter

The Solstice, taken from the Latin for “the Sun stands still,” is considered to be the true New Year—astronomically as well as spirituality. At this time, we see the simultaneous death and rebirth of the Sun-God, represented in the shortest day and longest night of the year. From this time forward, the Sun grows in strength and power as the hours of daylight increase.

Midwinter, or Winter Solstice, marked the end of the first half of the Celtic year. As with Samhain, which was the Roman festival of Pomona and the Christian All Souls grafted on to it, the Celtic Winter Solstice was subsequently confused with the Roman Saturnalia, and later the Christian Christmas. Mythologically, most of the Midwinter celebrations focused on the symbology of a new or younger God, overthrowing the older or Father God, which would then bring forth a new and more potent life to the people and the land.

Although the Solstice takes place on December 21, Midwinter(renamed Yule by the Anglo Saxons) covers several weeks on either side of the Solstice. In medieval times, Yule began around St. Nicholas’s Day and ran until Candlemas. Eventually, Yule was redefined to mean either the Nativity (December 25) or the 12 days of celebration beginning on this date. The word Christmas then replaced Yule in most English-speaking countries. However, the Danish preserved Yule as a way of maintaining their old style of festivities that incorporated several weeks of celebration.

In Wicca and modern Paganism, the Winter Solstice is the time of new beginnings, a time to reflect on the past and project for the future. Magickally, the Winter Solstice affords us a perfect time to formulate a plan of action, a goal we can work towards during the coming year.

Spiritual Aspects of Yule

Spiritual Aspects of Yule

Author:   Crick

As we approach the season of Yule (Winter Solstice, Alban Arthan) , I personally find myself entering a state of both celebration and reflection. When I reach out and touch the heartbeat of Mannuz, I can sense the intense joy of our Sacred Mother. For her son, our God, is about to be reborn, thus completing yet another segment in the Wheel of Life. When we entered the New Year, which commenced with Samhain and began our life travels anew, I found myself filled with an anticipation and excitement of that which is yet to unfold.

But before I look too far ahead, I muse on that which went before. The highs and the lows of the preceding year, that are now all but fading memories. For each experience is a contribution to our spiritual growth, whether it had a positive or negative impact.

I personally feel that spiritual knowledge is a gift and that the more knowledge that one attains that the greater the gift becomes. And there is no greater gift then that of a life experience that has had some effect on our lives.

As the wheel of the year slowly turned, there were at times life experiences that seemed insurmountable, but we found a way over. There were life experiences that caused so much grief, that we cried a river of tears, but we found a way across. And of course there were life experiences that had us laughing so deeply that we could barely catch a breath, but we found a way to breathe.

And so though the past year has been bittersweet, there is still much to rejoice about within the coming Yuletide season.

It is no secret that some religious belief systems have superimposed the alleged birth date of their God over that of the God of the pagans. This was done, in spite of the fact that the placement of the constellations from that period speaks otherwise. But then Yule is not a time to foment ill will, even if an established cause could be presented.

Instead I feel empathy for those who worship a distant and revengeful God to the exclusion of the Sacred Mother, for they are missing out on some of the most ancient joys of life. For not only do we as pagans have such a deep and enduring love from our Mother, but we also draw strength and wisdom from our sacred father. And between the two, we as pagans have an opportunity to walk the spiritual path with a steady sense of balance. It is through our own perspectives and actions that we maintain this balance or fall out of stride.

As individuals, the choice is ours to make. We have the opportunity to draw upon the spiritual aspects offered by both our Sacred Mother and Sacred Father in order to advance within our spiritual growth.

Yule is a feisty, twelve-day period of celebration, a time during which, feasting is a common activity. But while we feast on food to sustain the physical self, it is also a time to feast on the experiences of the year past in order to sustain knowledge for the journey ahead.
Yule is a time of reflection, then acceptance and then of moving on.

Upon the longest night of the year, our God is re-born from the slumbers of death. He brings with him the sacred light by way of the Sun. And from this moment forth the fertility of the land is once again restored. And so too are the fertility of fresh thoughts and new goals introduced into our hearts and souls. Our spirits cherish this moment of his birth for it is a time to shed the chains of the experiences past and to surge forth with a renewed purpose in our lives. The birth of our Sun God is an affirmation that life goes on and that the door to spiritual growth stands wide open.

Yule is a time to celebrate both the joys and the sorrows we have experienced up to this point. For both aspects, that of light and that of dark have strived to offer us knowledge of life that we can use to build upon as we travel forth. The rebirth of the Sun God, who brings so much joy to the heart of our Goddess is a sign that even within the darkness one can always find a ray of light. For his birth marks the time when the Oak King vanquishes the Holly King. This analogy of victory represents the power of light overcoming the power of darkness. This represents a balance and a sense of hope in the challenges of life that await each of us.

The nights become shorter and the days become longer as life begins to stir within the grasp of the Winter Solstice in anticipation of the coming of Spring.

It is a time to realize that no matter how tough or insurmountable a barrier may seem, we have been given the gift of our life experiences as a tool to achieve our spiritual goals.

As a time of celebration, Yule is also a time to be with family and close friends with which to share the joy of our Blessed Mother as she smiles with anticipation at the thought of reuniting with her son, as the time of the sacred birth draws near. For from such relationships we receive the gifts of love. And like a seed that has laid dormant, awaiting the warm touch of the Sun to sprout forth and prosper, we should take heed and allow these moments of love to define our actions and our mind set as we venture forth into the approaching segments of the wheel of life. To let such an experience to wither away with the passing of Yule is to cast such a special gift asunder.

And so with that I wish each of you a very joyous celebration of our Sun God.
