The Full Moon for this month will occur early in the month on Friday, May 5th. The New Moon will happen later in May on Friday, May 19th.
May is most notable for being the turning point in the year where temperatures rise and a vast variety of flowers come into full bloom, letting the world break out into a riot of color. As such, May’s full moon has come to be known as the Full Flower Moon. The Anishnaabe tribe also called it the Blossom Moon. In Northern America, you can expect to see flowers such as bluebells, sundrops, violets, and so on, as well as lush greenery to go with the blossoms. The Apache and Lakota peoples named May’s full moon the Green Leaves Moon, while the Mohawk tribe called it the Big Leaf Moon. But there is one specific plant that’s very important during the May season – and it is, in fact, not a flower.
This plant is corn, an important staple food for Northern American peoples. According to the Algonquin tribes, May’s full moon is the Corn Planting Moon. For Native American tribes, this is the perfect time for them to start preparing the fields for farming and sowing the seeds saved up from last year. Appropriately, the Abenaki culture refers to May’s full moon as the Field Maker Moon, while the Haida tribe calls it the Food Gathering Moon. Apart from corn, other foods such as beans, squash, and potatoes are planted during this time. The Cherokee tribe called May’s full moon the Anisguti Moon, or the Planting Moon, and would traditionally perform a Corn Dance during this period to encourage a fruitful corn harvest.
Due to the rising temperatures, the Full Flower Moon is also a time of heightened fertility. This is a good time for women to bear children in a warm, safe environment that would increase the chance of their survival. That’s why May’s full moon is also named Mother’s Moon, or Milk Moon, which could refer to breastfeeding or to the milking of cows. The latter interpretation is based off the Old English name Rimilcemona, or the Month of Three Milkings, referring to how this was a period where cows could be milked up to three times daily.
In other parts of the world, the Full Flower Moon is better known as Vesak or Buddha Day, the most significant celebration for Buddhists all around the world. On the first full moon of May, Buddhists commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Buddha. Devout practitioners are encouraged to renew their intention to adhere to sacred Buddhist principles, as well as refrain from all forms of killing and violence, including eating meat. Celebrations include giving charity to the poor, disabled, and otherwise marginalized groups in society. Depending on your location, you may witness the spectacular practice of releasing thousands of caged birds into the air as a symbolic gesture of liberation, though this tradition is illegal in countries such as Singapore because it may cause harm to local ecosystems.
Pagans, on the other hand, associate the Full Flower Moon with the element of fire, and thus often celebrate it by lighting bonfires and engaging in other magical fire rituals to bring prosperity. Powerful colors for the Full Flower Moon include fiery colors like red, yellow, and orange. This is a good time to tend your garden and let the seeds you’ve planted blossom – both literally and metaphorically. Cultivate your passions and desires, encourage them to burst forth into bloom, and you will be rewarded with abundance in various forms in your life.

In May, there will be two planets retrograding through the cosmos: Mercury and Pluto. The fortunate thing is that Mercury will only be retrograde for half of the month, but Pluto, on the other hand, will be retrograde the entire month of May (and beyond). However, since Pluto is the farthest planet from Earth, its retrogrades don’t tend to have as much of an effect as inner planet retrogrades (like Mercury). That being said, this is Pluto’s first retrograde in the fixed air sign of Aquarius in centuries, so it’s bound to be a bit more noticeable than usual.
Since Mercury has been retrograding through the fixed earth sign of Taurus, you’ve probably already begun to notice some delays, mishaps, and misunderstandings start to arise — specifically in the Taurus-ruled house of your birth chart. The nature of a retrograde is inherently slow and Taurus is a very patient and deliberate sign, things may almost feel as though they’re at a complete standstill right now. However, this moment of silence is giving you an opportunity to hear your thoughts clearly, particularly regarding the ways you seek to establish security and comfort in your life.
The nature of Taurus is all about ensuring longevity, and now is the time to adjust your strategies on how to get there. Then, by the time Mercury stations direct in this sign on May 15, you’ll have a clearer understanding of how to provide yourself with the contentment you’ve been plotting on. It’s also worth mentioning that even when Mercury stations direct, things may still be moving at a slow pace, but they won’t be accompanied by so many setbacks.
For the first time in generations, Pluto will be stationing retrograde in Aquarius, eventually making its way back into the steady, conservative sign of Capricorn. As the planet of extreme change and reawakening, Pluto brings monumental shifts to the zodiac sign and house in your birth chart it transits through. However, since Pluto is the slowest moving planet in the sky, its changes can feel gradual and almost entirely unnoticeable, especially as you’re in the midst of them. As Pluto stations retrograde in the trailblazing, experimental sign of Aquarius, it marks a final revisit back to the changes Pluto was occupied with in the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn over the last several years.
Since Pluto will be stationing retrograde at 0 degrees of Aquarius, you’re unlikely to notice any major revelations, since its only been in the sign of the water-bearer since March 23. Instead, you’ll notice Pluto’s brief revisit to the Capricorn-ruled house of your birth chart much more as it shifts back into this sign on June 11. There have been gradual transformations unfolding in the sign of structure, tradition, and outdated systems since 2008. Over the last several years, nations have experienced extreme highs and extreme lows — and Pluto’s brief shift back into this sign sets out to finish what was started. As for your personal birth chart, the metamorphosis that has been in progress in this sign will also begin to wrap up, officially as Pluto leaves Capricorn for good sometime in 2024.

Avoid shopping or important decisions from 5 AM to 11 AM EDT today (2 AM to 8 AM PDT). After that, the Moon moves from Libra into Scorpio.
Be careful with financial matters today, especially dealing with taxes, debt, inheritances and insurance matters. For starters, you might have a knee-jerk reaction about something. However, you might also feel confused because of your sympathy for someone. Wait for clarity.
Be patient with partners and close friends today because they might be emotionally upset about something. In fact, this could relate to an extravagant expenditure or a financial situation that is fuzzy or excessive. Make sure you have all the facts before you make a judgment. Take it easy.
Be patient with work colleagues today because you might cross swords with someone, possibly because they’re excited about a situation or upset. Perhaps they’re trying to introduce improvements? Meanwhile, you might come from a totally different perspective; hence the confusion.
Lovers’ quarrels might erupt today. Likewise, parents might be suddenly upset with their kids; or your kids might have a hissy fit or a meltdown for some reason. Whatever the case, be patient because there’s a strong element of confusion and wishful thinking today.
Do what you can to keep the peace at home today, especially with female family members. Keep in mind that your sympathetic feelings for a friend or a member of a group might add to some confusion to whatever is happening today. Get your facts straight before you take sides.
This is a mildly accident-prone day for you simply because you might have an emotional reaction to something, which in turn, creates a distraction for you. Accidents don’t have to happen but you have to maintain your cool. When talking to authority figures, think twice before you speak.
Your desire to travel and learn is strong today. In fact, you have romantic notions about where you would like to go and what you would like to do. Meanwhile, do not be impulsive about how you spend your money today. Give everything a sober second thought.
This is a challenging day because the Moon is in your sign square your ruler Pluto, which can stifle your feelings, which doesn’t mean they go away. They’re still there. In fact, jealousy is likely. Be clear about how to handle the resources of others. Don’t give away the farm.
You feel sympathetic to friends, spouses and partners today. You might even feel a strong connection to someone who is a member of the public. (Your compassion is aroused.) Nevertheless, because this element of sympathetic confusion is present, tread carefully.
You don’t have to coerce a friend or a member of a group to agree with you today; however, you will be tempted to do this. Meanwhile, if you can help a coworker- you will. Good. Never miss an opportunity to practice a kindness.
Discussions with parents, bosses, VIPs or the police might become heated today. Avoid this if you can because what good will it serve? Meanwhile, romance is heightened today, even though there is a veil of confusion present. Because of this confusing element, be careful about going overboard.
Avoid controversial subjects today because they will quickly disintegrate into a clash of wills. Meanwhile, you will feel sympathetic to a family member and look for ways to help or support them if you can. You might also enjoy redecorating where you live or tweaking your digs in some way.
Actor Will Arnett (1970) shares your birthday today. You are charming, perceptive and affectionate. You are also calm, which is why others often seek out your help. When necessary, you are an excellent teacher. This is a year of teaching and learning for you and perhaps more solitude. You will acquire more knowledge as well as increased inner awareness.

This day will teach you a lesson of tolerance and diplomacy. There are so many things that could happen to you this day but they all revolve around the idea of you having to learn to be a lot more understanding and even compromise from time to time.
You have a powerful personality and you need to see that being patient and tolerant doesn’t mean you are less authoritative.
There is a great chance for you to wake up today with a huge face of discontent. There might be things that are bothering you and the only answer you find to clear them off is to make some changes in your life.
And instead of focusing on your mind and on your feelings you might embark on some home remodel or on buying things.
You are expressive and quick to react today and this will help you seize any opportunity that might come your way, no matter how small this could be.
You should be as socially active as you can because you will get a chance to establish connections with people that will prove useful later on and there might also be occasion of travel that will ease off some work load.
This is going to be a day marked by change for you, especially in your career life. Be it that you are forced to take on some new responsibility or that you advance in a position of authority; be sure that those around you will see you in a different light.
Make sure you act according to the new position and try not to let emotions overwhelm you because you need to make a good impression.
Despite yesterday’s aloofness today most natives will feel energy charged and confident in their charms. Those who are searching for social contact and approval are sure to get into beneficial situations.
You might even get together with someone that could be of good use into a project you’ve preparing for some time or at least someone who could give you good advice.
Today you might be a little bit reluctant to socializing and to spending time with other people. Be it that you have a lot on your plate at work or that you simply aren’t in the mood for chit chat.
Mind your work if this is the problem or try to be as diplomatic and patient as possible if there is just your mood acting up. You definitely don’t want to offend anyone with your behavior.
Despite the fact that everything is going smoothly in both your personal and professional life it seems that there might be some unfortunate news to be received today.
It might have to do with finding out that not everyone is so supportive of your endeavors. You might discover that someone whom you consider your friend has turned his or her back on you.
Today is going to be all about making small steps and learning how to be patient. Maybe there are things you want done as soon as possible but there is no chance for everything to run just as you plan it. So don’t lose your temper and take everything step by step.
You will also get the chance to find out some information that will help you later on.
Today you are enthusiastic and practical but it seems that your mind is wondering off other territories. You will probably notice how charming you are this day and this will only make you a lot more daring and quick to come in contact with people.
There is a chance you meet someone but there won’t be something of great future going on romantically speaking.
Today you might be feeling a bit overwhelmed with work and there won’t be any escape routes showing of. Don’t expect miracles, just get to work as soon as possible.
Be responsible and efficient. There might be some mundane task you have to deal with but be sure those are important and if left undone will catch up with you faster than you could image.
This day seems promising for you. Be it that you come across a business opportunity or that you meet someone that could help you with an endeavor, make sure you make the best of this day.
You will receive some news that will change your plans for the following weeks but there is no reason to worry because everything will turn to be for the best.
The whole exaltation you’ve been feeling in the last days seems to have vanished and now you have a risk of falling into a sad period.
You need to understand that life can be demanding and busy at times and you can’t always do what you want but this doesn’t mean you can’t find accomplishment and optimism in even the most mundane of tasks.

The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a Waxing Gibbous phase. Visible through most of the night sky setting a few hours before sunrise. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. The phase lasts about 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous the moon rises in the east in mid-afternoon and is high in the eastern sky at sunset. The word Gibbous first appeared in the 14th century and has its roots in the Latin word “gibbosus” meaning humpbacked.

Light a green candle for luck and prosperity.
Charge a small green stone with your desire to find your “property” that eludes you.
Chant the following 3 times:
I Pray to the Moon when she is round
Luck to me shall then abound
What I seek for shall then be found
In sea or sky or solid ground
Remember, like energies attract, think of positive times spent with this lost treasure

The Stigma Of A Word: Witch
![]()
Author: Arachne Priestess
How many of us, amongst our vast and diverse Pagan community, wear pentagrams (religious talismans, totem fetishes, or other religious symbols) around the neck openly? How many of us wish we could, but don’t due to fear of retaliation, religious persecution, family concerns, or worse? And how many of us have born the stigma that comes from that freedom of choice, suffering at the hands of the closed minded, the bigots, the religious zealots who hold that one truth above all else, ‘thou shalt not suffer a witch to live’?
How many have lost jobs, born verbal and physical abuse, or lost loved ones because of who they are or what they are, a Witch? And what is the result upon the hearts and spirits of those who have suffered so?
So many questions, most with answers we’d probably rather not hear, and yet, it is a critical part of walking this path that must be faced head on. And when we meet this challenge, we are left with one stark question in our minds: Why?
Why was she abused? Why did his family turn away from him? Why did he lose his job? Why did she lose her kids? Why was he called a devil worshiper? Why? Why? Why………and the list goes on. Why must we suffer so for what we have become?
It took something powerful and dramatic to bring most of us to whatever form of Paganism we’ve chosen, because it is not a choice we would choose in adulthood just to spite our father’s religion, our families and/or our societies. Human beings, by their very nature, are social creatures that tend to conform to the strictures set forth by its leaders. So it must have taken something drastic, and possibly something extremely painful, to make each of us push away from society and adopt not only a new religion, but on the whole, a new way of life.
Then, upon that transition, we discover that we are pariah in the eyes of the very society that once embraced us because of a single word and the stigma attached to it. Through all of this culture shock we endure, we preserve, and we prevail. But sadly, at a very dear cost to ourselves and those around us. It is a price that is inflicted not only on those around us, but also upon our hearts and spirits.
We are isolated, offering up to the world a façade, while we secret our true selves away to only be shown when the curtains are drawn tight and the lights are dimmed. Our children are censored in what they may speak of at school, out of fear of bullying and retaliation. We are censored at work, often amongst family and friends, and even sometimes by our spouses.
And we see those brave souls who choose to openly defy the norm by exercising their religious freedoms, by wearing pentagrams in the open, dressing in full regalia, being activists for Paganism, religious freedom, and tolerance, and those who embrace this way of life wholeheartedly without fear of reprisal, and who could not help but feel a little jealous in our confines? I would be less than honest if I didn’t include myself in this group. But even those symbols of occasional envy suffer at the hands of hatred and intolerance.
And we are left with the stark realization that no one is immune and we journey back to the beginning of our path and the singular question of why. Why, because of a single word ~Witch~, are we branded and forced to bear a scarlet letter?
Why, indeed, and what will grow out of this treatment to be instilled within our hearts for a lifetime? These are questions that not many wish to think about, much less speak of. But again, it is an essential, if not critical, part of our paths that must be faced head on.
How many amongst us feel resentment toward their former religions, their ex-friends and lovers, and their families, despite our universal decrees of tolerance? How many of us cannot see beyond that bitterness to let grow the innate potential that resides within us all? It is a bitterness that is seeded and takes root within the heart. It grows exponentially until it pervades our entire existence, forcing us to view the world through a veil of our own bigotry. It not only turns us away from all of those who are of a different faith, but it turns Pagan against Pagan.
It is an illness, not suffered just by Christians alone, but by all groups, Pagans included. And while its true that we have our reasons for being bitter and resentful, it is also imperative to find the strength to move beyond it.
For to replace one form of hate with another, despite the reasons, is still replacing one form of evil with another. The only thing that can grow out of ignorance and intolerance is more ignorance and more intolerance.
And yet, here we stand as Witches, proud and true, despite this stigma, despite the loneliness, despite the atrocious intolerance of others and despite our own innate bitterness. We are who and what we are, not in spite of our troubles, but because of them, because we have found the strength to not only preserve, but to grow within our own spirituality.
And no matter how isolated we may feel, we are never truly alone. We have the Goddess, in all of her many beloved aspects, and we have each other. Let us be the solace and the salve of a wounded world, and not the bitter rage of resentment toward those who would wound her children.
It is a lesson that must be learned over a lifetime, to let go and forgive. It is a lesson of healing, not only for us, but for those around us, as well. One lifetime of forgiveness and healing begets another, and to our children we leave sound lessons well learned.
And then they, too, will become the solace and the salve of a wounded and ravaged world, as the children of a Goddess who not only welcomes, but also embraces, all of those who are different and unique.

There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The Moon is in Libra.
It’s important to know that you have to go more than halfway when dealing with others today. Don’t be impatient. Do not insist on getting your own way. Be generous, cooperative and go along to get along (for your sake). This is the best way to have a good day.
It’s easy to fall into disputes and arguments with work colleagues today. Or perhaps these arguments are with people who are dealing with your health or something to do with a pet. Whatever the case, why even go there? Don’t get your belly in a rash.
Parents must be patient with their kids today because this is the kind of day where it’s easy to lose it. Everyone is short tempered and quick to fight. The result of course will be that everyone will be miserable. You don’t want to be miserable. Therefore, stay cool. Be patient.
Family arguments or spats (especially with a female family member) might arise today. But what will this accomplish other than upsetting everyone? You will be aggressive because Mars is in your sign. Therefore, your choice is: Will you be part of the problem or part of the solution?
With the Sun at the top of your chart, you are high viz. at this time, which means people notice you. You might want to keep this in mind if you feel upset or angry today with someone. Why create a bad impression? Fortunately, Venus promotes warm relations with friends. Go with what works.
Money disputes might arise today, which are difficult to avoid because people are touchy about their money. Meanwhile, you make a great impression on bosses, parents and people in authority at this time so why would you waste this opportunity? Get your facts. Think things through.
You need to have harmony in your surroundings; and you like to get along with others. Although you’re an excellent debater, arguments are not fun. They are unsettling and can ruin your day. Therefore, avoid arguments with authority types today. Be kind to yourself. Go gently.
The best way to keep the peace today is to avoid talking about controversial subjects because today there is no winning. Do your best to be diplomatic when dealing with ex-partners and old friends from your past. Ultimately, you might have to agree to disagree. Accept this.
Even though relations with friends or members of groups are challenging today; nevertheless, your relations with partners and people who are close to you will be warm and supportive. Therefore, avoid the difficult exchanges. Talk to people who care for you.
This continues to be a playful time for you! Plus, relations with coworkers are mutually supportive and positive. This means your challenge today is dealing with partners, spouses and close friends. Be aware that arguments might be public. (Be patient to avoid foot-in-mouth-disease.)
Relations with family are positive at this time. Home repairs and fun activities with kids are excellent choices for you. Nevertheless, it might be hard to avoid becoming embroiled in work-related arguments and disputes. Say as little as possible so you have no regrets later.
Your life is relatively busy now with short trips, errands and appointments. Avoid disputes with your kids. Likewise, avoid lovers’ quarrels. Instead, focus on improving your home and perhaps redecorating to make things look and feel more attractive. Do what’s best for you.
Actor Dule Hill (1975) shares your birthday today. You are compassionate, caring person who has strong ethics and moral values. You are strong willed, efficient and organized. This year is about service to others, especially family, which is why it’s important that you take care of yourself so that you can be of use to others. Time for a makeover?
