Current Moon Phase for June 1 – Gibbous Moon

Moon Phases: Gibbous Moon

(waxing 135-180 degrees)

Distractions from the outside begin pressing into your world. Analysis is favored, reevaluating all the various factors you are dealing with. It’s a time to process information and effectively integrate your aims with the people in your immediate environment. This is a good time for organizing things. This Moon Phase is suited to synthesis: coming up with a practical plan for getting from point A to point B. Adjustment is required.

Spring Cleaning Party (Hare Moon)

Spring Cleaning Party

(Hare Moon)

Cast this spell to rid your space of negativity.

You will need a drum, a bell, and a sage and cedar smudge stick.

During the waning moon, gather your family and friends together for a Spring Cleaning Party. At dusk, smudge the area with the smoke of the sage and cedar smudge stick. Thoroughly extinguish the smudge stick. Draw a magick circle around the area you want to cleanse. Invite in any divine energies that you want to help in your cleaning process.

Beginning at the north point, walk clockwise around the parameter of the area (north, east, south and west) while beating on the drum and have everyone chant together:

All unwanted and negative energy

Be gone from this place,

In our Lady’s name, so be it!

Repeat the exercise by again circling the area, only this time while ringing the bell and chanting together:

All unwanted and negative energy

Be gone from this place

In our Lady’s name, so be it!

Now set the tone of each room of your home by standing in the center of each moon and repeating this affirmation together:

May the bright and loving, divine power of the Goddess and God fill this space, now and forevermore. So Be It!

Celestial Power Spell (Hare Moon)

Celestial Power Spell

(Hare Moon)

Use this spell to gain rapport with the powers of the Moon, Stars, and Planets.

Spread a white altar cloth on your altar after dark. Use a white candle and meditative music. Light the candle and turn on the music. Take several drops complete breaths, in and out. Merge with the Divine with Oneness and say:

“Moon, stars, planets and celestial powers

Please open your spirits to me

Moon, stars, planets, and celestial powers

Please open your hearts to me

Moon, star, planets, and celestial powers

Please open your arms to me

Moon, stars, planets and celestial powers

Please lend your wisdom to me

Thank you for your celestial energy, blessed be!

Now gaze at the candle and meditate on the powers of the moon, stars, planets, nebulas, and other celestial formations, lending their wisdom to you and filling you with celestial light. Do this for at least 15 minutes. Allow the candle to safely burn down when you are finished.

Moon Phases: First Quarter Moon

(waxing 90-135 degrees)

by Jan Spiller

Emotions begin to stir coupled with recognizing that the new beginnings you are making must also increase personal security to be worthwhile over the long haul. This is a time when it’s appropriate to get in touch with your gut instincts and begin to guide your life more deliberately, with an awareness of using your “6th sense” as well as your enthusiasm. Obstacles may emerge that require you to reevaluate how to better integrate yourself into your immediate environment.

Don’t Miss The Celestial Event of a Life – June 5 & 6

The 2012 Transit of Venus

It won’t happen again until December 2117. On June 5th, 2012, Venus will transit the face of the sun in an event of both historical and observational importance. The best places to watch are in the south Pacific, but travel is not required. The event will also be visible around sunset from the USA. Credit: Science@NASA
On June 5th, 2012, Venus will pass across the face of the sun, producing a silhouette that no one alive today will likely see again.

Transits of Venus are very rare, coming in pairs separated by more than a hundred years. This June’s transit, the bookend of a 2004-2012 pair, won’t be repeated until the year 2117. Fortunately, the event is widely visible. Observers on seven continents, even a sliver of Antarctica, will be in position to see it.

The nearly 7-hour transit begins at 3:09 pm Pacific Daylight Time (22:09 UT) on June 5th. The timing favors observers in the mid-Pacific where the sun is high overhead during the crossing. In the USA, the transit will be at its best around sunset. That’s good, too. Creative photographers will have a field day imaging the swollen red sun “punctured” by the circular disk of Venus.

Observing tip: Do not stare at the sun. Venus covers too little of the solar disk to block the blinding glare. Instead, use some type of projection technique or a solar filter. A #14 welder’s glass is a good choice. Many astronomy clubs will have solar telescopes set up to observe the event; contact your local club for details.

Transits of Venus first gained worldwide attention in the 18th century. In those days, the size of the solar system was one of the biggest mysteries of science. The relative spacing of planets was known, but not their absolute distances. How many miles would you have to travel to reach another world? The answer was as mysterious then as the nature of dark energy is now.

Venus was the key, according to astronomer Edmund Halley. He realized that by observing transits from widely-spaced locations on Earth it should be possible to triangulate the distance to Venus using the principles of parallax.

The idea galvanized scientists who set off on expeditions around the world to view a pair of transits in the 1760s. The great explorer James Cook himself was dispatched to observe one from Tahiti, a place as alien to 18th-century Europeans as the Moon or Mars might seem to us now. Some historians have called the international effort the “the Apollo program of the 18th century.”

A double transit: the International Space Station and Venus on June 8, 2004. Photo courtesy of Tomas Maruska. In retrospect, the experiment falls into the category of things that sound better than they actually are. Bad weather, primitive optics, and the natural “fuzziness” of Venus’s atmosphere and other factors prevented those early observers from gathering the data they needed. Proper timing of a transit would have to wait for the invention of photography in the century after Cook’s voyage. In the late 1800s, astronomers armed with cameras finally measured the size of the Solar System as Edmund Halley had suggested.

This year’s transit is the second of an 8-year pair. Anticipation was high in June 2004 as Venus approached the sun. No one alive at the time had seen a Transit of Venus with their own eyes, and the hand-drawn sketches and grainy photos of previous centuries scarcely prepared them for what was about to happen. Modern solar telescopes captured unprecedented view of Venus’s atmosphere backlit by solar fire. They saw Venus transiting the sun’s ghostly corona, and gliding past magnetic filaments big enough to swallow the planet whole.

2012 should be even better as cameras and solar telescopes have improved. Moreover, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory is going to be watching too. SDO will produce Hubble-quality images of this rare event.

Calendar of the Moon for May 30th

Dark Moon Night

Color: Black
Element: Air
Altar: Upon a black cloth set a single black candle, incense, an iron sickle laid to mimic the direction of the waning moon, a cup of water, a lock of silver hair, and a white bone.
Offerings: Bones. Stones. Menstrual blood. Give something up.
Daily Meal: Soup of some sort, cooked in a cauldron, eaten in silence.

Dark Moon Invocation

At this time, in the dark of the moon,
When the Silver Lady ages
To an old woman in the dark,
Haunting crossroads, working magic,
Stirring her cauldron
Of poison that heals,
Grandmother Moon of sorcery
And wisdom, who sees all
And reveals little to our searching eyes.
Moon of Death, Moon of mystery,
Moon of silence who hides her face,
Let us learn silence from your averted gaze
Let us learn patience from your aging face
Let us feel for the dark places within us
And find our way down your path in the darkness
Which is utter and complete
But not impenetrable.
As darkness wraps us,
So silence heals us.
As darkness finds us,
So silence guides us.
As darkness speaks,
So silence falls.

(The candle is blown out, and all leave in silence. From the beginning of this rite at Hesperis until the dawn, silence will rule in the house. Talking must be done only in whispers, and between no more than two people, and only for that which is necessary. Long meditation is encouraged, and all work must be done quietly if possible. The evening meal should be eaten by candlelight, and only candles may light the house, except for the sake of certain important work.)

Ambarvalia – Sprouting Corn Day

Color: Green
Element: Earth
Altar: Upon a green cloth set a pot in which shoots of some kind of grain have surfaced, ready for transplanting.
Offering: Carefully nurture some fragile dream.
Daily Meal: Vegetarian

Ambarvalia Invocation

Great Demeter of the fields,
Mistress of all the crops
That are grown to the benefit of Man,
Kore, daughter of the springtime earth,
And the Lares of the home
Who watch over us all,
We honor you today in our work.
For some things are too tender
To be thrown to the cold earth
Exposed to frost and chill
In a place they were not born to walk.
Teach us that it is right and proper
To nurture these tender things,
To give them strength and protection,
To water them with what they need
To manifest themselves,
And never to chide them for their weakness.
And even if they live but for one season,
To cherish their short lives
And be glad that they once appeared on Earth.
Help us to nurture our most delicate dreams
That they may rise whole and sturdy
When the sun and the season allow it.

Chant:
We plant you with our love
We plant you with our hope

(The pots of green shoots are taken outside and carefully transplanted into the soil. Each touches them, waters them, and says, “So I nurture my dreams.”)

Wiccan Tea Rite (Ritual)

Wiccan Tea Rite

The purpose of the rite is to thank the Gods, and for the Gods to bless the person for the following day.

For the Wicca tea ritual, practitioners would generally use an anointed red candle and pure spring water, as well as the herbs for the tea. Pure spring water is preferred because it is said to contain more energy than normal tap water. Spring water has been retrieved directly from its source and has not been treated with as many chemicals as tap water.
The initial preparation begins with cleansing the teapot and cup. If required, the herbs should also be blended. The spring water is then boiled.

When the water is boiled, the candle is lit while the following is intoned:

“Gracious Goddess,
You are who the Queen of the Gods,
The Lamp of Night,
The Creator of all that is wild and free;
Mother of woman and man;
Lover of the Horned God, and Protectress of all the Craft;
Descend, I Pray,
With Your Lunar ray of power,
Upon my rite here!

Blazing God,
You who are the King of the Gods,
Lord of the Sun,
Master of all that is wild and free;
Father of woman and man;
Lover of the Crescent Goddess, and protector of all the Craft;
Descent, I pray,
With Your Solar ray of power,
Upon my rite here!

The water is blessed with the following:

O Lady of the Mountain Streams,
O Lord of The Green Glade Creek,
I call on You to bless and purify this water
With Solar rays and Lunar beams.
So mote it be!

The herbs are blessed with the following:

Thou has grown by favor of the Sun, the Moon, and of the dew.
I make this intercession, ye herb:
I beseech thee to be of benefit to me and my rite,
For thy virtues are unfailing.
Thou art the Dew of all the Gods.
The Eye of the Sun,
The Light of the Moon,
The Beauty and Glory of the Sky,
The Mystery of Terra.
I purify thee so that whatever is wrought by me with thee may,
In all its powers.
Have a good and speedy effect with good success.
Be purified by my prayer and be powerful!
So mote it be!

The herbs are then placed in the teapot, and water is added. As the tea is steeping, a prayer is said to the Gods, asking for their blessing. After the tea is finished, the following is intoned to finish the ritual.

O Mistress of the Holy Moon,
O Master of the Sacred Sun,
I give thy thanks for Your presence here,
And blessings given.
I now bid Thee farewell.
Blessed Be!
Hail fair Moon, Ruler of the Night;
Guard me and mine
Until the Light.
Hail fair Sun,
Ruler of the Day;
Rise on the morn
To Light my Way!
So mote it be!

Daily Cosmic Calendar for Sunday, May 27th

Back on March 21 – two days after the spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and one day before a potent New Moon – we all experienced a Sun-Mercury Inferior Conjunction while Mercury was retrograde and between the Earth and Sun. As the eminent astrologers Dr. Marc Edmund Jones and Dane Rudhyar so clearly wrote in the 20th century, a Sun-Mercury-Earth alignment with Mercury in reverse is equivalent to a New Mercury. However, several months later, there is a Full Mercury – like the one happening today at 7 degrees of Gemini (4:20AM PDT), but where Mercury is on the far side of the Sun and moving at top speed. Thus, our Full Mercury is equivalent to a Full Moon – where enlightened thoughts and ideas are ripe for the picking. Adding to the festive environment – artistically and socially – is a Moon-Venus supportive, 60-degree rapport (6:58AM PDT). Revelations continue to pour in when Mercury makes a constructive, 60-degree alliance with its higher-octave guardian planet Uranus (4:37PM PDT). Hit the metaphysical and scientific books with a vengeance. Meanwhile, emotional volatility can be rising as the Moon parallels the red planet Mars (4:52PM PDT). Shortly thereafter, the Moon begins a void lunar cycle at 4:55PM PDT – lasting until 11:07PM PDT when the Moon enters industrious and meticulous Virgo. Finish odds and ends during the 6+ hour void lunar cycle, but don’t launch major undertakings. Get extra rest and sleep overnight as the celestial spotlight remains centered on Mercury’s many alignments.

Current Moon Phase for May 27th – Waxing Crescent

Moon Phases: Crescent Moon

(waxing 45-90 degrees)

by Jan Spiller

During this Moon phase, there is a slight “slowing down” of enthusiasm due to a desire emerging to produce tangible results from the energy being expended. The issue of values enters into the equation and an urge to tie together the data available so that you can utilize current opportunities. There is still plenty of forward motion and this is a great time to continue initiating and progressing forward. This Moon Phase favors gaining more information and the input of others to further your plans.

Your Weekend Lunar Love Horoscope for May 25 – 27

Weekend Love: Lunar Love

by Jeff Jawer

Hearts Take Center Stage

May 25 – 27

It’s showtime this weekend, and the curtain goes up when the Moon dances into dramatic Leo early on Friday evening. This is a time to express your creativity and your feelings without restraint. It’s definitely more interesting to go too far than to play it safe and hold back emotions. Indulging in a little fantasy is perfect as communicative Mercury crosses paths with imaginative Neptune. Reality takes a temporary backseat to living in the moment without concern for what tomorrow will bring. It’s like Las Vegas is everywhere and everyone can leave behind adult responsibilities to play with heartfelt abandon. Of course, you shouldn’t take what you hear or say too seriously in these ungrounded circumstances.

Dressing to impress on Saturday, almost as if you’re a performer, puts stars in peoples’ eyes and smiles on their faces. Being generous is a wonderful way to please a partner, so open your heart and wallet to make this a special time. Making memories is more important than saving money or saving face. The more love and affection that’s given, the more you’ll get back in return.

This joyous influence continues until late Sunday night when the Moon moves into pragmatic Virgo and minds shift away from play and toward the workweek that lies ahead.

Daily Cosmic Calendar for May 25th

Your abilities as a problem-solver and strategist skyrocket – courtesy of a supportive, 60-degree alliance between Mercury and Pallas (12:17AM PDT). When these two mentally-oriented celestial bodies form a positive liaison, all kinds of intellectual and intuitive breakthroughs are possible. As mentioned in yesterday’s calendar entry, we are in a rather quiescent time-period relative to cosmic alignments as major sky patterns are temporarily on the back burner. Nevertheless, today can still be tricky to maneuver through easily since the Moon goes void at 7:35AM PDT during an upbeat Moon-Jupiter 60-degree rapport. The void lunar uncertainty cycle remains in effect until 3:12PM PDT when the Moon enters fiery, warmhearted Leo. In the midst of the void Moon conundrum, Mercury squares off with dreamy Neptune (2:38PM PDT). It is wise to avoid key signings, legal matters and making long-term commitments a few hours before and after this 90-degree clash. You may be able to tweak this planetary link-up into something more favorable by experimenting in the realms of photography, film and video work, painting, music and dance. Inspirations are hitting some extraordinary high notes this evening as a Sun-Mercury parallel (9:52PM PDT) closely coincides with a supportive, 60-degree rapport between the Moon and Mercury (10:32PM PDT).
