Witchcraft Symbols, Terms and Definitions

Hecate’s Wheel

This is a symbol of the three stages of womanhood: maiden, mother and crone. The ancient Greek goddess Hecate was a goddess of crossroads (such as the crossroads between each phase of life for a woman). The wheel symbolizes these phases with a labyrinth and represents the power and knowledge in moving through life.

Represents: women, transformation.

Used in rituals for: invoking change and transformation.

  1. The Wheel of Hecate, aka Stropholos of Hecate, has always represented the fact (which I was Guided to understand) that no matter where you are in life, there will always be at least 3 “routes” to choose from. I had not thought of it, but I guess the stages of a female’s life would definitely qualify as times when there would be these choices to be made. And I would say it would qualify the stages of Youth, Warrior, and Sage, as well – not all who work with Hecate are female. Another great post 🙂
