Airglow Ripples over Tibet

Explanation: Why would the sky look like a giant target? Airglow. Following a giant thunderstorm over Bangladesh in late April, giant circular ripples of glowing air appeared over Tibet, China, as pictured here. The unusual pattern is created by atmospheric gravity waves, waves of alternating air pressure that can grow with height as the air thins, in this case about 90-kilometers up. Unlike auroras powered by collisions with energetic charged particles and seen at high latitudes, airglow is due to chemiluminescence, the production of light in a chemical reaction. More typically seen near the horizon, airglow keeps the night sky from ever being completely dark.

Elemental Energies in Magick – Spirit

The element of Spirit is the 5th unseen element. It is the combination of all the energies of the four elements and it is very hard to work with    because there is nothing to focus on. In fact the only real way to connect to this 5th element is to look inside yourself and connect with that part of you    that is unique and different from other people. The part of you that is noble, confident, honorable and strong. This is the part of you that is Spirit.    Unfortunately for most people, connecting to this part of themselves is made a lot more difficult than it has to be because of fear and insecurity. What if    they don’t have enough of these good qualities to ever connect to something that no one can see, touch, smell or hear? The answer lies in your own    personal mythology. Take for instance any story you have ever heard that moved you and inspired you. It can be a fairy tale you heard when you were a child    or a story you heard yesterday. You don’t have to believe the story was true to use the energy it raises inside of you. You need only focus on the way    it makes you feel and then translate it to other situations in your everyday life. In fact these stories represent psychological archetypes that we all    share which is why story-telling is common in our culture. We all have a craving for Spirit. Our mythology is the code of the unconscious mind, and it    paves the way to connecting to Spirit. So when you want to invoke the element of Spirit, summon the feelings of triumph or joy that stem from your personal    mythologies. The energy exists on its own for you to use and direct even after you have forgotten about the story. Once you have summoned the energy,    directing it is another matter. Spirit energy is often represented by the color white or ultra-violet (invisible) light. You should imagine whatever color    helps you define the Spirit energy you feel. This can be white, clear, ultra-violet, etc. It’s really up to you because this is your personal energy    source. Like all the other elements, Spirit energy is a part of nature, however, this is the point where YOU become another aspect of nature just as Fire,    Water, Air and Earth are parts of nature. Spirit represents the superconscious mental processes (as opposed to the conscious mental processes of Air and    the unconscious mental processes of Water). For this reason magick in all forms will be successful when performed under the supervision and assistance of    Spirit, ruled by the spirit of the center of the Four Winds, Metatron.

I used to believe my great-grandmother was the first person on earth. She was so old, she HAD to be. Those deep lines carved around her eyes and mouth were a dead giveaway.

With the Sun, Moon, and Mercury in Sagittarius, this a lovely week for teamwork, networking and socializing! It’s the perfect time to catch up with old friends and enjoy fun outings and romantic dates. People will be optimistic, open-minded and adventurous. We will want to travel, explore, and learn new things because Sagittarians are truth seekers. Obviously, one should always tell the truth, unless asked “Am I too fat?” Nevertheless, there is the Law of the Lie: “No matter how often the lie is shown to be false, there will still remain a percentage of people who believe it to be true.” (Are these the people for whom lying is simply talking?)

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Grab every chance to travel in the next four weeks because you want to get outta Dodge! You need a change of scenery! And you need stimulation and adventure! Fortunately, the heavens will help you fulfil these wishes so start packing. This is also the perfect time for study and education, because you want to learn more about the world, especially by talking to people who have different interests and beliefs from yours. Enjoy art exhibits, social outings and publishing opportunities. Romance with someone “different” is likely. Allow extra time for everything because retrograde Mars will slow down your progress. (Hey, you can’t have everything. And anyhow, where would you put it?)

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Three planets are in one of your Money Houses, which creates a concern about finances and whatever you hold jointly with someone else, including loans and mortgages. You might try to borrow money, get a mortgage or settle an inheritance. Fortunately, fair Venus is also in this Money House, and Venus will attract money to you through your spouse, business partner or a bank. (Yay!) This favourable influence lasts for the next four weeks. It will also heighten your intimate relationships, making them affectionate and cozy! This is actually a good time to look at your inner self to be aware of who you are, especially your compulsions.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

In the next four weeks, the Sun is sitting opposite your sign. (This happens only once a year and among other things, it means you will need more sleep because the Sun, represents energy, and it is now (symbolically) as far away from your sign as it can get all year.) Note: This polarization can create conflict with others; however, it also allows you more objectivity to see your role in the relationship, which means you can do something to make it better. (An opportunity not to be missed.) This is also the perfect time to work with others. Do not go it alone. Discussions with others will be clarifying. Meanwhile, your closest relationships will be more affectionate because your ego is more in tune with others. Enjoy good times!

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

No matter what’s happening, in the next four weeks, you will roll up your sleeves and work. Your focus will be on your efficiency and effectiveness because you want to be as productive as possible. Admittedly, you might have to work according to someone else’s wishes or demands. (Arrg.) This is a good time for mental work as well as getting along with others. (Wanna get together and think for a while?) A work-related romance might begin. Hey, this is also a lovely window of time for your health! However, avoid overindulgence, especially seconds on dessert; and be aware of little self-defeating acts. Don’t worry about getting credit for what you do. Just get it done.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

It’s play city for Leos for the next four weeks! This is why you’ll have a strong drive to get out and have a good time. You will feel lighter. You will enjoy the company of children. Your relationships will be more playful. Accept invitations to socialize. Arts and crafts, the entertainment world, musical performances, the theatre, sports events and good times with others are perfect choices for you in the next four weeks. Grab every opportunity to express your own creative talents because you are a creative sign. Don’t be hard on yourself if your self-discipline is weak. This is a time of pleasure and romance! Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

For the next four weeks, your focus is on home, family and your private life. You will feel happier being among familiar surroundings. (Note: memories from your past will bubble to the surface of your mind.) Tackle home repairs and DIY projects. This is the perfect window of time for you to redecorate your home and invite people over to see what you’ve done. Offer your guests good food and drink. Ironically, although you will enjoy entertaining others, you will also enjoy quiet times by yourself at home as well – because it feels good. You’re happy to cocoon in your safe, cozy refuge. (I think it’s unfair that rum and eggnogs are so fattening. Life is a cruel hoax.)

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

The pace of your days is accelerating because you’re busy with short trips, errands, appointments plus increased interactions with siblings and relatives. You will enjoy all this socializing, but it will make you hustle! In addition, many of you will read, write and study more than usual. Because Mercury is in your House of Communications, you’ll be eager to talk to others and enlighten them with your ideas. Meanwhile, Venus will sweeten your words and make you entertaining and diplomatic. Venus will also heighten your appreciation for your daily surroundings. Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

The Sun is in your sign for the next four weeks, giving you a chance to recharge your energies for the rest of year. This is why you will project yourself more forcefully! Obviously, this is your time to make a wonderful impression on others. Fortunately, with Venus in your sign as well, you will look charming, accommodating and gracious; while Mercury will make you chatty and keen to talk to everyone. This is a wonderful time for you to attract people to you along with favourable situations. Admittedly, retrograde Mars is still opposite your sign, which can create challenges dealing with partners and close friends. But the Sun and Venus will sweeten your words – all will be well.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Your personal year is drawing to a close now; however, your new year will not begin until your birthday arrives. This means that the next four weeks are sort of like limbo for you. You’ll be happy to work in the wings or be by yourself and use this time for contemplation. In fact, it’s the perfect window of time to set goals for your new year ahead. After all, goals give you a clearer focus on what is important. They give you more clarity in future decision-making. They give you better control over your future and a sense of purpose. (You like to have purpose because you want to know where you’re going.) Meanwhile, some of you are dabbling in secret love affairs and enjoying yourselves. Hmmm.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

A popular four weeks ahead! Expect interactions with friends and groups more than usual. This is an excellent time to work with others. It’s also the perfect time to examine the role that friends and groups play in your life. Because your idealism is aroused, this is an excellent time to bounce your hopes and dreams for the future off someone to get their feedback. Meanwhile, relations with others (including younger, creative people) will be so exciting for some, a friend will become a lover. Chogyam Trungpa said, “You are continually inviting all beings to be your guest — knowing they will not stay forever; and you will not be leaving with them.”

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

For the next four weeks, the Sun sits at the top of your chart casting you in a spotlight. And this spotlight is flattering! This mean bosses, parents, teachers and VIPs will see you as competent, capable and clever – even if you don’t do anything special. (It’s the power of good lighting.) Since you create such a marvellous impression without any extra effort, obviously, the next four weeks are the perfect time to advance your agenda and demand the advantage. Go after what you want! Make plans for your professional life. This is also an excellent time to talk to bosses and superiors. Meanwhile, romance with a boss might begin. (Certainly, a flirtation.)
