Keep your New Year Resolutions with help from the stars

Sally Philips  by Sally Philips on the topics of new year, astrology

It’s that time of year again, when we all promise to correct our bad habits and become perfect people. Riiiiight! As we all know, New Year resolutions are made to be broken … but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t make them.

Whether we stick to them is not always the point. It’s more about adjusting our focus each year to gain greater awareness. Little by little, that awareness can help us clean up our mucky areas and get closer to living the lives we desire.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

If one of your resolutions last year was to finish projects that are still sitting on your shelf, it’s time to box them up and make room for a brand new endeavor. Here’s the resolution you will need to make it a success: I won’t start a new project until I finish the one I’m working on.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Your fixed energy makes you great at follow through, but it can also keep you stuck in bad habits. Resolve to tackle a few of your worst ones this year. If you are true to your resolutions for just three months, you will be well on your way to breaking even the most stubborn habit.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Your whirlwind life can be a lot of fun — and it certainly isn’t boring — but it might serve you well to slow down this coming year. Even though patience isn’t your strong suit, try adding a dash of it here and there. It will help you make progress in areas where your bouncy energy has actually been holding you back.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

You love your routines and your security, but it’s time to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. Resolve to reach out into unknown territory and see what you find this year. If it feels scary, remember that you’re just coming up on an edge where you need to stretch.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)

Have you used your irresistible charms to capture emotional prisoners this past year? If you’re a player — and you know who you are — resolve to be more devoted this year. Open up that big heart of yours and take your relationships to a deeper level.

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22)

Nag, nag, nag … the only time you stop is when you’re nitpicking. Okay, that’s a huge exaggeration … but chances are you’ve gotten on someone’s case a little too often this past year. Resolve to lighten up this year and let others take care of dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)

As hard as you try, you can’t have it both ways. Promise yourself you will make firmer decisions this coming year. You can still weigh all of your alternatives, but when it comes down to the line, make up your mind and stick to it. Your friends and colleagues will breathe a sigh of relief.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)

Keeping secrets adds to your mysterious allure, but there’s a limit. If you’re using your power to manipulate others, that’s where it needs to end. Resolve to be more transparent with those close to you this year. Let them in on your deepest secrets and enjoy the fruits of greater intimacy.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

You’re good at thinking big and you shouldn’t change that this year … but you might want to put more time into developing strategies that will help you reach your lofty goals. Remember — a goal without a plan is just a dream — so make this the year you follow through.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)

Here’s your mantra-resolution: It’s not all about money. Keep pursuing the almighty dollar if you like, but also take time to smell the roses that line your path to success. Your friends and family need you. Resolve to be more generous with your time and attention.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)

Even though we all love your quirkiness, it wouldn’t hurt to develop a bit more tolerance for the traditional. As it’s the flip side of where you usually put your energy, it may feel uncomfortable. But you shine when it comes to breaking the mold, so surprise everyone (again!) with a side of you they’ve never seen.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20)

This is the year to put your compassion to better use. Resolve to find a project where you can help others in need. Your understanding and supportive nature is a gift you need to give on a regular basis. Reach out and extend it beyond your friends and family.

A General Overview of What 2013 Has In Store For Us

2013 Astrology Horoscopes

Change is the name of the game

By Rick Levine and Jeff Jawer

The most important astrological pattern of this century started just last year, when revolutionary Uranus and transformational Pluto aligned in an exact 90-degree square on June 24 that repeats six more times before concluding on March 16, 2015. This culture-shaking aspect is the second step in a cycle that marks a change of collective consciousness that first occurred in 1965 and ’66. That was a naive time in some ways, as a healthy economy made it easy to drop out and live an alternative lifestyle, since there were plenty of jobs available when people were ready to drop back in. Alas, it’s not the same story this time around.

Digging deeper, we note that Uranus, the planet of liberation, is in the individualistic sign of Aries now. This might not encourage cooperation, and we can see that reason and compromise are hard to come by these days. Yet it also means that each of us is a unique source of innovation, and that collective change starts with the individual. Potent Pluto in Capricorn represents the controlling forces of institutions, both public and private. The abuses of power by governments, corporations, schools, and religious organizations can easily be criticized … and should be. But the healing forces of change that will carry us through these tumultuous times and into the next phase of human evolution are within each and every one of us. Breaking patterns and discovering new ways to express ourselves individually might not seem very significant in the bigger scheme of things, but the cumulative effect of a million bright ideas and loving acts of kindness will change the world.

The heart of the matter

Saturn is the planet of hard, cold reality and represents the limits that hold us back, as well as the structures we can build to fulfill our ambitions. It entered emotionally intense Scorpio last October and will stay there for two years. Scorpio deals with the deep issues of survival, intimacy and power. It is concerned with our desires and the ways that we measure what we give others in order to get what we want in return. These are very meaningful issues, but ones we are often reluctant to address openly with others or even honestly with ourselves. Yet getting to the heart of our needs is where Saturn in Scorpio’s essential truth lies. When we push past the limits of politeness, niceties, and looking good to others, we may discover some deep hunger that has been overlooked or denied. Maybe it can’t be completely fulfilled, but just knowing what we really want can be a strong step toward creating a happier future. Being willing to negotiate with others in both our personal and professional lives empowers us in relationships and overcomes the quiet desperation of staying silent.

Areas of opportunity

Expansive Jupiter is in jaunty Gemini until June 25, filling minds with a million and one ideas. This is terrific for creative thinking and imagining more options in our lives, yet we can also scatter our energy if we pursue too many possibilities at once. Being selective helps to capture this intellectual inspiration without dissipating ourselves in too much thought. On June 25 Jupiter enters cozy Cancer for a 12-month stay, putting an emphasis on personal security and domestic matters. In mid-July, Saturn and Jupiter are joined in a harmonious Grand Water Trine with imaginative Neptune and assertive Mars. This is a special time for setting long-term strategies, since faith and action combine with vision and reason to lay down a solid foundation for reaching inspirational goals.

Your Daily Horoscopes for Tuesday, January 1

Unimportant events that might normally pass by unnoticed now stand out with greater emphasis once the Moon slips into detail-oriented Virgo and sharpens our perspective. However, words don’t seem to match up with what’s happening as communicator Mercury aligns with confusing Neptune. The Moon’s stressful opposition to Neptune infuses our feelings with fantasy. Nevertheless, separating facts from fiction can be enough to create positive change.

Aries Horoscope

(Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Although this is likely a day away from work, there might be so much to do at home that you wish you were on the job. Nevertheless, you can see past the present moment as you anticipate the waves of relief heading your way. In the meantime, focusing on the present moment keeps your mind occupied. Don’t let your responsibilities lag; taking care of the most pressing tasks right away eases the intensity so you can find time to relax.

Taurus Horoscope

(Apr 20 – May 20)

A cautious approach to having fun today might sound restrictive at first, but you should be able to make this strategy work with ease. There is no need to go overboard with any type of indulgence; you can thoroughly enjoy yourself now by sharing simple pleasures with your friends or family. Instead of scheming for more gratification in the future, find contentment with what you have in the present.

Gemini Horoscope

(May 21 – Jun 20)

You may feel conflicted today because you’re currently motivated by needs that are different from your natural tendencies. Normally, you would choose communication over silence and activity over passivity. However, you can recharge your emotional batteries now by passing up a tempting party invitation or skipping a distracting trip to the bookstore. But even if you wisely choose to retreat, a part of you still longs for the action. Rest now; play later.

Cancer Horoscope

(Jun 21 – Jul 22)

You are unsure about how involved you want to get with the emotional dramas that are unfolding around you. You might decide that acting cautiously is smarter than jumping into a conflict, only to discover that you are already playing a role in the scene anyhow. You may as well offer your assistance today, for your resistance will only delay a workable resolution. Showing your support by listening to your friends is the first step to establishing common ground.

Leo Horoscope

(Jul 23 – Aug 22)

You may doubt yourself if you are putting too much effort into containing your energy. You’re happiest when your love can be expressed naturally and everyone fully appreciates the magic you bring to their world. Now, however, it’s tricky finding a healthy balance between your inner and outer worlds. Too much exuberance makes others uncomfortable. Too much self-restraint prompts them to worry about you. Don’t be overly concerned; ultimately, all you can do is be yourself.

Virgo Horoscope

(Aug 23 – Sep 22)

Even if there are unresolved issues floating around a current relationship, you can still latch onto a sense of well-being today. Once you decide to take everything in stride, communication becomes more straightforward and you’re apt to just say what’s on your mind. You’re smart enough to know that some things are beyond fixing, and worrying about them won’t make it easier to let go. Forget about the big picture for a while and revel in what you can do in the present moment.

Libra Horoscope

(Sep 23 – Oct 22)

Retreating from the hectic world is a smart idea today and if you take care of your responsibilities early on, you can actually manifest a very relaxing day. However, you must scale back your social obligations or things probably won’t unfold according to your ideal plan. Be ready for a few unexpected twists and turns; engage them willingly instead of resisting the inevitable. Your adaptability is the secret to your success.

Scorpio Horoscope

(Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Although you might believe that being alone with your thoughts is the best way to spend the day, you will probably be better off hanging out with others today. But don’t squander your time by celebrating with just anyone; you can be as selective as you want when it comes to the company you keep. Choose a few special friends and carve out enough space to share something meaningful. An unexpected gift of appreciation or a warm gesture of affection is a wonderful way to demonstrate your love.

Sagittarius Horoscope

(Nov 22 – Dec 21)

You have recently experienced a phase of expansionism and it’s time to re-establish balance in your life. Actually, your tendency to overstep limits may be a central theme for months to come, but it’s still not healthy to lose yourself in unrealistic visions for next year. Instead, focus your attention on something you can change right now — in the present moment. Today, thinking small is your smartest strategy.

Capricorn Horoscope

(Dec 22 – Jan 19)

Having a concrete plan can help you feel better, but it still may be difficult to turn your thoughts into actions today. Don’t be too self-judgmental if you can’t yet get the traction you desire. You wisely realize that the best ideas take time to develop. Nevertheless, remember that you are currently caught between optimism and realism. Be patient; the pace will accelerate in the months ahead and a solid foundation prepares you for the changes of the future.

Aquarius Horoscope

(Jan 20 – Feb 18)

It’s awesome that you can still be comfortable even when life gets strange and weird. It’s not that anything in particular is going wrong now; it’s just that there are lots of loose ends that defy tying up. Instead of attempting to finish last year’s business today, accepting circumstances as they are may be your most intelligent approach. Your irreverent sense of humor might just save the day, capturing the attention of admirers of a quick wit.

Pisces Horoscope

(Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Your friends might try to bring you back down to earth today, but it’s not easy to spend time with them if they’re raining on your dreams and draining your enthusiasm. It’s not that they have bad intentions where you’re concerned; it’s just that they don’t understand the intense relationship you have with your imagination. You can be more tolerant of others once you understand that they sincerely have your happiness in mind.

Calendar of the Moon for January 1

Calendar of the Moon

1 Luis/Gamelion

Day of the Rowan Tree

Color: Light grey
Element: Earth
Altar: On a cloth of light grey set a vase of rowan twigs, gathered ahead of time and forced into budding, dried rowan berries from the preceding year, a single red candle, a pot of soil, seeds, a bowl of water, and a bell.
Offering: Plant seeds. Keep your dreams alive.
Daily Meal: Vegan. Red food.

Invocation to the Green Man of the Rowan Tree

Hail, Green Man of the Winter!
Rowan tree of the mountains,
Slender of stalk and many of leaf,
Sacred berries that break any spell
And ward any home,
Red as the ochre of our ancestors,
Red as the food of the gods,
Brigid’s pride, magical branch,
Protector of doorways,
Protector of children,
Expunger of evil,
Fire of the forge,
Floods across the plain,
Duck who rides the flood,
We hail you, sacred rowan tree,
Green Man of the Winter,
On this the time of your dreaming.

Chant:
I rise with the sap,
I feel the deep spark,
I find joy in the cold,
I bend with the winds.

(Each comes forward and plants a seed in the pot of soil, saying, “Hail Green Man of the Earth!” Water is poured onto the pot, and then the rest is poured out as a libation. Ring bell and dismiss.)

Calendar of the Sun for January 1

Calendar of the Sun

1 Wolfmonath

Kalends: Day of the Moerae

Colors: White, red, and black.
Element: Air
Altar: Drape with cloths of white, red, and black, and place upon it three candles in these same colors, three goblets in these same colors holding white wine, red wine, and elderberry wine, a spindle wound with handspun thread, a piece of woven cloth, and a large knife or pair of shears.
Offerings: Libations of wine.
Daily Meal: Vegan. Should be eaten in silence.

Invocation to the Moerae

(Light the white candle and raise the spindle.)
Spin truth into words,
Spin words into doom,
Spin doom into fortune,
Spin fortune into life,
Spin my life fine and strong,
O Lady with the spindle
Whose thread is my beginning.
(All take a piece of thread from the spindle. Pour out the white wine as a libation. Light the red candle and lift the woven cloth high.)
Weave truth into vision,
Weave vision into mind,
Weave mind into spirit,
Weave spirit into life,
Weave my life with depth and color,
O Lady with the shuttle
Whose tapestry is my existence.
(All knot their thread. Pour out the red wine. Light the black candle and lift the shears high.)
Cut truth away from falsehood,
Cut falsehood away from illusion,
Cut illusion away from matter,
Cut matter away from body,
Cut my body away from my life
When the time comes,
O Lady with the shears
Whose knowing hand is my doom
And also my truth.
(The leader of the ritual drapes his or her head with a cloth of black and walks around the circle, cutting each thread in silence. The cut threads are laid upon the altar as an offering, and all sit in silence, meditating on their Fate and that of the coming year. Leave in silence.)

Current Moon Phase for January 1, 2013: Waning Gibbous

Gibbous Moon

(waning /72% illumination)

This is a tremendous time of transmutation. All of the prior elements are coming together for a final burst of creative output. You have seen a clear view of your own needs and the posture of significant others. Now the accumulation of that input is leading to a deep, core change within you. In this phase, you will naturally be inclined to seek higher guidance so that you can emerge from this transformation successfully. The Disseminting Moon favors sharing what you have learned (and are learning) with others.

Wishing You A Very Blessed & Prosperous 2013, Dear Family & Friends!

Good Morning & Happy New Year, family & friends! it is totally unreal how times flies, isn’t it?  Go to bed one night, it is 2012. Wake up the next day, it’s 2013? Makes you wonder how many other lives have you woke up and done the same thing? I was thinking about when all the other Religions were calling for the end of the world. I had lots of humorous thoughts about it. Of course, the mainstream Religious leaders wouldn’t have thought it funny. Go ahead, let the end of the world come. When it is all said and done, “The Pagans shall inherit the Land.” I know you are scratching you head but we reincarnate, see, lol! We would all reincarnate and come back and the world would be ours! Good grief, I sound like a crazy ass witch, sorry about that. My husband got to watching one of preachers on TV (just to make fun of him), he would sit and argue with the man. Then the preacher got on the end of the world. He blew that up so big. And of course, for only $2500 he would send you a survival generator. They were going to need one. Then they would need protection from all us heathens. He recommended all the men learn how to shoot and the women do the same, also take a self defense course. Heathens must be bad folk 🙂 ! But my husband said the man was going to retreat to his underground bunker on the day of the 20th.  Hubby tuned in and sure enough the nut case was gone. And they were telling everybody where Brother what’s-his=face went! Can you imagine that? If I was that man I would never show my face in public again, NEV ER!

You might be wondering why I brought that up. Well our local TV station was asking for what we thought was the best story of the year. I thought that would make the cut but it didn’t. Just goes to show our local station has no taste, lol! Anyway, today is going to be a very laid back day. No, I am not hung over, I don’t touch the stuff. I just stayed up late last night changing the graphics here. I also had to do some shopping for new books of 2013. So I slept in the morning.

I noticed the population button today. I guess the biggest part of our bunch had to work today. Ahhhh, but the world must continue to turn. Remember it is a very laid back day so no telling what might happen, lol!

Wishing You & Yours a Very Prosperous & Blessed 2013,

Love,

Lady A
