Elder’s Meditation of the Day – September 13

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – September 13

“The most important thing you can do during the course of the day is to pray.”

–Joe Coyhis, STOCKBRIDGE-MUNSEE

There are many things we do during the day that are important. There are many places we have to go and there are many things to accomplish. The old ones say, the most important thing we can do is remember to take the time to pray. We should pray every morning and every evening. In this way we can be sure that the Great Spirit is running our lives. With the Great Spirit we are everything but without Him we are nothing. All Warriors know their greatest weapon is prayer. To spend time talking to the Creator is a great honor.

Great Spirit, thank You for listening to my prayers.

September 13 – Daily Feast

September 13 – Daily Feast

It is good to keep the promises we make to ourselves to enjoy a peaceful hour. How long has it been? How long has it been since we walked on a grassy hillside and watched the shadows hover and move? Walking is good for the legs – but it does wonders for the soul. The autumn season is one of the best times to walk and think. There is a rhythm in the earth that rises into our feet when we walk. In it is the healing and it centers the soul so that the cares of the world cannot get in to destroy peace. And peace has so many side effects. It restores youth and gives perspective to a world-weary mind.

~ The Great Spirit made these mountains and rivers for us, and all this land. ~

A journey that you or someone close to you must make will have a positive influence on this aspect. This trip may be over a great distance.General Description:
This charm was worn by the ancients toprotect the wearer against disease and snake bites. The Jews used it as an amulet for epilepsy and erysipelas. Moses used the Tau Cross with the brazen serpent attached, to save the Childrenof Israel in the wilderness from the attacks of the fiery serpents. Your Deck of Ancient Symbols Card for Sept. 13th is The Phoenix

Your Deck of Ancient Symbols Card for Today

The Phoenix

The mythical, endearing Phoenix has long been a symbol of rebirth, renewal, and coming full circle. Tired in both body and spirit the aged Phoenix combust into flames and from its ashes is reborn. The Phoenix does not indicate change so much as it does renewal and revitalization. It denotes the completion of a cycle and beginning anew.

As a daily card, The Phoenix suggest you are at a place where some aspects of your life have reached the end of a cycle. Your energies may be weakened from use and stretched over too many arenas to be as effective as they once were. As a result, now may be a good time for you to take a step back and allow yourself time to revitalize both your physical and spiritual self.

Today’s I Ching Hexagram for September 13th is 49: Revolutionary Change

49: Revolutionary Change

Hexagram 49

General Meaning: According to Chinese symbolism, the juxtaposed elements of this hexagram are fire under water. Fire evaporates water, and water puts out fire. Change can cause conflict; conflict brings about change. This hexagram refers to that time in the cycle of human affairs when things need stirring up, and when the hint of dramatic change is in the air.

In order to succeed, revolutionary change must be in alignment with certain unchanging laws. The process must begin at the right moment, gather support from a broad base of people, be guided by sincere and capable leadership and — most important of all — must address a real need. The strength of the forces of change will always be in proportion to the urgency of the need being championed. This is true whether the revolution is in government, in business, in education or in one’s personal affairs.

Revolutionary change points to a time when chaos arises from order. It is important to realize that not all order is good, not all chaos bad. Chaos, in fact, is an integral part of the way of things — as any parent (and modern science) will confirm. Have the courage to radically change and renew the way you present yourself. In this way, you can summon chaos to your cause, and you will unleash a new power on your behalf. If engaging in a negotiation, change the rules; if composing a piece of music, add the unexpected; if courting a lover, dare to be unconventional.

In periods of drought, even wild storms are preferable to yet another sunny day.

Today’s Tarot Card for September 13 is The Star

The Star

This Tarot Deck: Sacred Rose

General Meaning: What has traditionally been known as the Star card is about reconnecting one’s Soul with the Divine — the transcending of personality, family, community and reputation. It has to do ultimately with the freedom to be one’s Self. The Soul is responding to celestial influences — forces that can provide the personality with a stronger sense of purpose. The Star card helps us to remember our exalted origins and our attraction to a Higher Union.

This card could also be called the “Celestial Mandate” — that which refers us back to our reason for being, our mission in this lifetime. The Star reminds us that, in a sense, we are agents of Divine Will in our day-to-day lives. If we let go of the idea that we are supposed to be in control, we can more easily notice and appreciate the synchronicities that are nudging us along. In this way, we become more conscious of the invisible Helping Hand, and we better understand our place within — and value to — the larger Cosmos.

The Full Moon

The Full Moon

By GrannyMoon

When the Moon is completely illuminated in the sky and looks like a sphere, she represents the Goddess in her Mother aspect, as Isis, Inanna, Demeter, just to name a few. The Full Moon is when a witch may feel the most powerful. Traditionally the time of the month when witches gather, it’s a good time for casting spells outwardly and for celebrating all the gifts and glory of the Goddess. Sing and dance in praise of the Ancient Mother Goddess under the Full Moon.

Try conjuring now, for artistic endeavors; beauty, health, and fitness; change and decisions; children; competition; dreams; families; health and healing; knowledge; legal undertakings; love and romance; money; motivation; protection; self-improvement.

A Full Moon increases perception and is an ideal time to prepare and use potions that increase the psychic abilities. A time when spells and plans come to fruition. Take a moment to breathe deeply and slowly. The Goddess is within each of us. Listen to your Inner Wisdom and walk a path that nourishes your spirit.

A witch’s kitchen should never be without a lunar calendar showing the phases of the moon. Once you understand her monthly cycle of growth, fruition, and decline, you can use the moon’s phase in your own spiritual practice and spellwork.

Daily Horoscopes for Tuesday, Sept. 13th

The Moon powers her way into courageous Aries at 2:49 am EDT, infusing us with a new wave of energy. Her conjunction with electrifying Uranus sparks lightning bolts of awareness, lighting up the darkness and revealing previously hidden secrets. The Moon’s square with transformative Pluto deepens our feelings and can create an emotional impasse. An irritating Venus-Neptune alignment early tomorrow morning confuses our dreams with reality.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Your emotions are running amok now that the Moon is hooking up with crazy Uranus in your sign. You want to experience the extreme intensity while somehow simultaneously acting cool. However, you can’t play it both ways, even if it seems like you must give up something when you choose one or the other. Logic only takes you so far today, but going beyond words and trusting your instincts could put you back on track.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

You truly want a romantic relationship to work out today, even if you have to face an old issue that you prefer to avoid. You realize that you can’t hide your head in the sand any longer, even if you thought that you would be able to take the easy way out. Fortunately, handling your fears won’t be as tough as you thought. It’s much more difficult to pretend that everything is fine when it’s not.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

You can sense a powerful shift in the cosmic weather today as the clouds of illusion are chased from your inner skies. You are ready to get to the bottom of something that has bothered you lately, but the answers you receive won’t likely be the ones you expect. Don’t be shocked by what you discover now. Even though persistence doesn’t come easily to you, it will pay off.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

Something is motivating you to share more than you expected today, even if you know that you should say less. Unfortunately, once you open your mouth, closing it becomes much more difficult. It’s helpful to remind yourself throughout the day that you don’t have to tell your whole story all at once. Reacting slowly and deliberately will get you further than speaking too soon.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

It’s time to move past old hurtful memories so you can be open to the joy that’s recently found its way into your life. However, this doesn’t mean that you should just forget about your previous experiences. Setting aside your feelings is not a sensible strategy because you’ll only end up being irritated without an obvious reason. Ultimately, your willingness to be open-minded can lead to an exciting emotional breakthrough that can shake up your outlook on life and send you off in a new direction.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You might be trying to deepen a business or personal relationship now, but could run into a totally unexpected response from the other person. Even if you are open to surprises, it’s challenging when things don’t fit into a neat and tidy package. Fortunately, this won’t become a problem unless you make it one. You’re at the start of something new, so allow the energy to flow naturally rather than frustrating yourself by wishing the tides would follow your schedule.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

The Moon’s shift into your 7th House of Partnerships increases the stress in relationships, especially if other people seem overly pushy today. You may be tempted to withdraw to protect yourself emotionally, but this strategy only increases your sense of isolation. Instead of shutting out others now, try to understand their point of view. Once you can see things through someone else’s eyes, you can establish common ground, enabling everyone to feel better about the situation.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

The feisty Aries Moon dynamically squares your key planet Pluto today, stirring up raw emotions that can suddenly erupt. But you don’t want to escalate a conflict now; you simply prefer to get to the source of your anger so you can process your feelings and move on. Fortunately, you are motivated to do so once you realize that holding on to the past will only bring you unhappiness, even if there’s a bright future beckoning just ahead.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

You are already anticipating good things just around the bend, but the future cannot arrive soon enough for you. You have plenty of responsibilities to fulfill today before you can head out to play, but you’re ready to leave them until later if something interesting comes up. Fortunately, you should be able to grab the fun and excitement in the present moment as long as you remember to finish your chores once you return.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

You may not be ready for the speed of change now as the Moon meets up with unpredictable Uranus. You have a choice to make that can affect your whole day. Either let the pressure get the best of you by fearfully worrying about something you can’t control or consciously turn your frown into a grin, knowing that change is on the way whether you want it or not. Don’t expect a miracle, but remember that your positive attitude and flexibility can turn a tough day into a positive one.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Although you may think that you have everything under control, something happens today that forces you to see the world differently. Instead of trying to keep up with your busy schedule, it may be more sensible to let it fall apart and then piece things back together once the chaos clears. It’s too late for preventive medicine now; just be ready for change and let the chips fall where they may.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

You may feel as if you’re being pushed into the future against your will. It’s not that you’re resistant to progress; it’s just that you have grown comfortable with the status quo and you’re not yet ready for it to slip into the past. Keep in mind that your fear of what’s coming next may be more problematic than the actual challenges you will face. Don’t worry about the unknown; there’s nothing you can do about the future until it arrives.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)
Today you will have to take someone aside and gently explain that a “briefcase” is not actually for undergarments. Remember: you probably made a few silly mistakes yourself, when you were just starting out.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Good day to begin that toothpick sculpture you’ve been thinking of. You’ll be the only private individual (aside from Martha Stewart) who orders toothpicks by the case. Martha goes through several boxes just sticking breakfast together, I hear.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
While poring over some old historical documents, you will discover that the Norman invasion was actually supposed to be the “Bob” invasion, but Norman stole the credit for it. Sadly, it will turn out to be too late to change it now.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
This will be a very musical day for you, today. Next time, try to remember the Beano(tm)?
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
You will be sucked into a multi-level marketing organization today, and will lose all your friends, along with your self-respect. Later, though, you’ll realize that your new friends are much better than those old friends, and that you feel like you’re part of a big “family.” Or at least, that’s what you’ll say.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
It’s time to seriously consider indoor golf. How else are you going to use terms like “mashie” or “niblick” in casual conversation?
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Excellent day for a bubble bath. If you don’t have a little yellow rubber duckie, you’ll need to get that first, of course.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)
Don’t you owe someone a thank-you note? If not, send one anyway — that’s always fun.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)
Bad day to tease a yak.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 20)
Good day to avoid pickled herring.
Aquarius (January 21 – February 18)
The bad news is, you’re competing for that new job with a Hindu goddess. The good news is, if you think YOU have trouble figuring out what to do with your hands during an interview…
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
Excellent time to show the world that plaid and stripes do too mix. (Tip #12 of Arnold Pinknobble’s “How To Get Noticed”.)

Earth Science Photo for September 13th

Perspective of the Moon from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres

September 13, 2011

2 Moons 2
Photographer
: Mario Freitas
Summary Author: Mario Freitas; Jim Foster

As a consequence of our planet being ball-shaped, observers in the Southern Hemisphere see celestial bodies and constellations upside-down when compared to how they appear in the Northern Hemisphere. The two photos above, depicting the waxing gibbous Moon rising over the eastern horizon, were taken 28 hours apart, using the same camera, before and after an international flight from Curitiba, Brazil to Paris, France. Although the lunar disk displays almost the same phase and the same elevation in both pictures, it seems to have tumbled in the sky. This of course is due to the change in the observer’s horizontal plane. Note the inclination of the Moon’s terminator, with reference to the wires and trees in the first picture, and the vertical chimneys in the second.

The lunar phase is a result of the relative locations of the Moon, Earth and Sun and doesn’t depend on where on the Earth’s surface you’re looking. But how the Moon is oriented in the sky depends on the latitude (and hemisphere) of the observer. However, the size of the Moon, regardless of phase, is the same as viewed everywhere on Earth. Photos taken on July 9/10, 2011.

Photo details: Both photos – Camera Maker: Panasonic; Camera Model: DMC-LX5; Focal Length: 19.2mm (35mm equivalent: 171mm); Aperture: f/4.0; Exposure Time: 0.0080 s (1/125); ISO equiv: 80; Exposure Bias: none; Metering Mode: Matrix; Exposure: shutter priority (semi-auto); White Balance: Auto; Flash Fired: No (enforced); Orientation: Normal; Color Space: sRGB.

Great Orion Nebulae
Image Credit & Copyright: Jesús Vargas (Astrogades) & Maritxu Poyal (Maritxu)

Explanation: The Great Nebula in Orion, also known as M42, is one of the most famous nebulas in the sky. The star forming region’s glowing gas clouds and hot young stars are on the right in this sharp and colorful image that includes the smaller nebula M43 near center and dusty, bluish reflection nebulae NGC 1977 and friends on the left. Located at the edge of an otherwise invisible giant molecular cloud complex, these eye-catching nebulae represent only a small fraction of this galactic neighborhood’s wealth of interstellar material. Within the well-studied stellar nursery, astronomers have also identified what appear to be numerous infant planetary systems. The gorgeous skyscape spans nearly two degrees or about 45 light-years at the Orion Nebula’s estimated distance of 1,500 light-years.
