This week the Sun and Mercury move into Sagittarius, which will create strong, positive vibes for everyone. People will be optimistic, chatty and family oriented. However, by Thursday, some tough energy in Fixed signs will be sobering. Ah yes, what the big print giveth, the small print taketh away. Nevertheless, for the most part, this positive influence will set the tone for the next four weeks. We will all be more adventurous! We will expand our world through travel and learning. “I want life to sizzle!” One sure tip about how to feel better is this: “A random act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a tremendous impact on someone else’s life.”

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This week heralds a four-week shift of energy for you and it’s a good thing because the Sun will be in your Fellow fire sign for the next four weeks supporting you in a positive way. Yay! This happens twice a year about four months before and after your birthday. It means your energy level will be higher than usual and you will be able to do whatever you want — working and playing. Survey your recent achievements. How are you doing at the art of living? Examine what has worked out and what has not worked out. Don’t waste time on regrets. Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Yikes! The energy this week will be like tabloid headlines. “Secret KFC Recipe Revealed!” “Who Killed JFK?” Yes, it will old home week for conspiracy theorists. This is because deep, dark secrets will come to light this week. Not only will a “light” reveal unknown mysteries or classified information – it will also trigger revelations that prompt people to leave stagnant, oppressive relationships. Outmoded structures will be cast aside. People are waking up and they want change! Mid-week, tempers will flare. Friday’s Lunar Eclipse will be the last straw. (No plastic, please.) My only hope is this doesn’t include my family’s secret recipe for chili. After all – some things are sacrosanct.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This could be a momentous week for you with money, earnings, cash flow and especially, your financial involvement with others, especially partners. A dispute about shared ownership might arise. Financial secrets regarding the ownership of something or debt might come out. A secret could involve an authority figure, especially a parent or an older family member. You might feel betrayed or denied important information. As the week goes on, this tough energy will build. (Wednesday could be particularly nasty.) By Friday, the Full Moon brings everything to a head. Things need to be resolved. You want the facts and you want the freedom to govern what you own wholly or in a shared way. Simple.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

When it comes to money, you practically manufacture the stuff in your backyard. This week, you can expect disputes with partners and close friends that might also involve a parent or an authority figure or even the government because it feels like the world is out to get you. This conflict could be triggered by the discovery of information of which you were unaware. (You were either ignorant or deceived.) By Wednesday, you will express your displeasure! After that, the only Full Moon in your sign all year will occur on Friday. Hopefully, it peaks — once again, peace will be in the land and the crops shall be fertile and milk and honey will flow.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Although this is a crunchy week for many, I think it will be lighter for you. (Fingers crossed.) Nevertheless, you might have anxiety or disputes about your health. In fact, health concerns could trigger arguments with someone? Or perhaps these arguments will be related to your job or your work? They could also be related to your involvement with your pet or pets because something will trigger conflict in these areas for you. This conflict might be exacerbated by rules and regulations or the law. Very likely, you will feel a buildup of these problems but hopefully, after the Full Moon on Friday, you will have a sense of resolution. In fact, these problems should diminish and perhaps, even disappear? (One can only hope.)

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Patience is the antidote to anger. It does not remove the cause of anger; but it will stop anger from doing more damage. Remember this if you find yourself in conflict with your kids, a romantic partner, or a colleague in sports, the entertainment world or working with youth. You might argue with someone about fundraising or how to use a specific amount of money or a mandate. By Wednesday, you might be full battle. This could get even worse by the Full Noon on Friday! The good news is that fair Venus is opposite your sign and this will assuage difficulties with others. Plus, you’re a sensitive, caring person.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

This might be a challenging week for you. (Yes, we’re talking Bad Day at Black Rock.) Your home and your family will be interrupted in a major way. Family conflicts might be the result. You might also be at odds with your partner. People are very independent, and in the midst of all this, hidden secrets might come out! A family member might rebel against any kind of authority in the family. This could be very touchy on Wednesday; and by the Full Moon on Friday, the tension is palpable. Fortunately, following this, everything might quickly subside. Yay! Things fall into place and there’s even seconds on dessert. (Fingers crossed!)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Please note that there’s a lot of wild energy flying around this week. It could promote an accident-prone situation for your sign. Obviously, nothing has to happen. It’s just a potential – a possibility. Be aware that you might suddenly be arguing with relatives, daily contacts or neighbours, especially about controversial issues in our society. This could impact your job and even your health. Quite likely, you are worked up about something and feeling intellectually aggressive. Is this wise? Anger only clouds your thinking. Wednesday might be a day of confrontation. Frankly, things will not let up until after the Full Moon on Friday. Don’t try to win an argument. Don’t try to be right. Just relax.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

We are all dealing with confrontational issues this week, and for you, it could relate to money, possessions and your kids. You might quarrel about cash flow, earnings or who is responsible for what. Perhaps your values are different from those of someone else? (It’s particularly challenging when you encounter this in your kids.) Keep an open mind to hear the other person’s point of view because this is helpful. Also keep in mind that we are all receiving different inputs of information from different media sources. Contradictory information simply promotes confrontations. Practice patience on Wednesday, and wait until the Full Moon is over on Friday for things to settle down. You’ve got this.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

There’s no question that this is a challenging week. The tough aspects that are taking place involve the Sun, Mercury and fiery Mars — all in your sign. They are sitting at odds with Uranus and stern Saturn. As if that weren’t enough, at the end of the week, the only Full Moon opposite your sign all year will take place. What to do? Slow down! Take it easy. Minimize what you want to do. Be patient with everyone. Be kind to yourself. Have a coffee with Baileys. (Canned whipped cream is fine.) Sit this one out in a gentle, easy-going way for your own good. Quite literally, you need to wait for the storm to pass. Pamper yourself with good food and drink. Feet up. Fun TV.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Resist the urge to get involved with philosophical concepts that lead to confrontations with others this week because the odds are that this will happen. But will it be fun? No way. You like to get along with others. You love exploring ideas and enjoying lofty, profound discussions. But who needs confrontations and arguments? Avoid these, if possible, especially related to your work, your health or your pet. Don’t make a big deal about anything. Be as easy going and forgiving as you can because in the end – you will be the one who benefits. Who wants to have their belly in a rash? Not you! (“I want to get off eBay and get on an E-bike.”)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You like to minimize collateral damage and keep up appearances because life runs more smoothly that way. You’re right. Very smart. You know that appearances are everything. Therefore, consider this week an opportunity for you to demonstrate grace under pressure, because there’s a strong likelihood that you will find yourself at odds with a friend, or perhaps your kids, or you might be at odds with a group. Things could get nasty. By Wednesday, people might be at each other’s throats! Not good. Financial responsibilities might be in the picture as well. All this will come to a head and hopefully, become resolved after the Full Moon on Friday. (Would that it were that simple – and it just might be.)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This week will have some challenges. Quite likely, you will find yourself at odds with an authority figure – boss, parent, even the police. For starters, deep, dark secrets might be revealed either to others or just to you. If it’s just to you, it might be a profound revelation about something that you can no longer ignore. It’s as if long-hidden information has suddenly come to light! Things will be volatile on Wednesday. The slightest provocation might provoke an argument. And by Friday, the only Full Moon that occurs all year in your House of Home and Family will take place. Do what you can to keep the peace, but of course, you also have to maintain your integrity as a human being.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Be aware that this week is an accident-prone time for you. Of course, an accident doesn’t have to happen but it might happen if you’re angry, flustered or distracted. Therefore, pay attention to everything you say and do, especially when jogging, walking and driving. It’s important to guard against knee-jerk reactions where you suddenly blurt something out and then you can’t take it back. This could be regrettable. (It’s definitely something you want to avoid.) Think about what is best for everyone. Generally speaking, what’s good for the bee is good for the hive. Next year will be a much easier year for you because lucky Jupiter will be in your sign. This is reassuring.

However, by Wed., everything changes and in an epic showdown, feisty Mercury joins scrappy Mars in Scorpio to challenge stern Saturn. This is an all-out defiance to authority (whatever authority represents in your life). Authority might be your boss or the head of the family. It might be the government. It might be the church. It might be tradition. Whatever the case, no matter how hard “authority” tries to control or oppress – it will be forced to cave. Clearly, the little guy wins! By the end of the week, all is calm and cool. Oh yeah, this will be the time to put the “b” back in subtle.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This week begins in gentle terms; however, you are concerned with financial matters connected with shared property, jointly-held items, shared responsibilities and dealing with the wealth and resources of someone else. You might also feel a bit challenged having to deal with values that are different from your own? Certainly, some of these issues will come to a head midweek when someone older, perhaps a friend or a person in authority, in a group or an organization, challenges your stance on inheritances, shared property, taxes, debt or your arrangement with someone about shared resources. This could mean a major blow up with a parental figure. It might also mean you will encounter some kind of blow up related to home and family. Whatever it is – you don’t need it! Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Although this week begins in an easy-going way (and easy-going is your style), nevertheless, midweek, you might feel bothered by something. Perhaps this is something going on behind the scenes? Perhaps it’s something that’s troubling you at a subconscious level? The thing to know is you can simply ride this one out because by the end of the week, all is fine again. Meanwhile, this is a great week to attract money and goodies to you. It’s also an excellent week to shop for beautiful things for yourself and loved ones. (Yesterday, when discussing my grandson’s eclectic taste in music, he said, “It took me a long time to love what I love.”) Ah yes, developing the confidence in one’s tastes.

This week is a bit of a roller coaster ride when it comes to relating to your friends, as well as members of groups and organizations. As the beginning of the week unfolds, all is well. In fact, people are supportive to each other. However, by midweek, you will encounter a real challenge with someone, perhaps related to the authority of a group? Or it could be related to how to spend a certain amount of money? Or it could be related to who has control over money and goods? It might be a real clash — so get ready for this. Quite likely, the powers who oppose you will lose their advantage. This means you simply have to persevere. Be dogged.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This is definitely a dicey week for your sign. As mentioned above in All Signs, this week begins in a favourable way with people being helpful and supportive to each other. However, suddenly, midweek everything changes. You will find yourself in conflict with authority figures – parents, bosses, teachers, VIPs and the police. They will dig in their heels. You will dig in your heels. It will be a clash of wills. They might have rules and regulations on their side but you will ignore these and rebel, in order to fight for the improvements and change that you believe are necessary. In this case, you might succeed because the forces of authority are weak, and you are strong.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Be smart and steer clear of groups and organizations that are excited about controversial matters this week – matters involving politics, religion or racial issues. Naturally, it’s good to take a stand on what you believe in. However, this week, especially midweek, people will get their belly in a rash about whatever upsets them, and the result will be turmoil and conflict. Quite likely, nothing will be achieved. If you are trying to push an agenda regarding these matters or something to do with publishing, the media, higher education and the law – whatever forces oppose you will probably dissipate or diminish by the end of the week. Every month, we have a New Moon, which is when the Sun and the Moon are lined up exactly in the same sign. It’s good to know about the New Moon because it’s the perfect time for beginnings and planting new seeds. This week, the New Moon peaks on Thursday, and is immediately followed by an electrifying zap from Uranus. Pow! (It will most strongly affect those born in the first week of May, Aug., Nov and Feb.) But for all of us, this is an opportunity for a fresh start and a chance to set new goals and make resolutions. So, heads up! Are you ready? I know I am. (Just today my partner and I were laughing about how competitive we are. I laughed more than he did, though.)

Aries (March 21-April 19)

September’s name comes from the Latin word septem, meaning “seven.” This month had originally been the seventh month of the early Roman calendar.

Mid-Autumn Festival: September 20–21, 2021

Also known as the Moon Festival, this holiday has been celebrated for at least 3,000 years and is said to be the second largest festival in China after the Chinese New Year. Observed on the 15th day of the eighth month of the traditional Chinese lunar calendar, it can occur in either September or early October in the Gregorian calendar.

This autumn festival occurs during the full Moon nearest the fall equinox, which is traditionally said to be the brightest and roundest. Local festivities might involve brightly colored lanterns, dances, games, and other entertainments. Families and friends celebrate into the evening to give thanks for the harvest and for being together, offering each other wishes for happiness and long life and remembering loved ones who live far away.

Celebrants may make offerings to the Moon goddess Chang’e or share traditional mooncakes by moonlight. These round pastries, which symbolize the full Moon and reunion, are often filled with red bean or lotus seed paste surrounding a salted egg yolk in the center.

  • Sapphire is a form of corundum that is typically blue, a color caused by tiny bits of iron and titanium; the vivid, medium blues are more valuable than lighter or darker forms. Due to various trace elements, sapphires also appear in other colors. Those with red colors are called rubies.
  • Sapphires were thought to encourage divine wisdom and protection. They symbolized purity, truth, trust, and loyalty. Some believed that if they were placed in a jar with a snake, the snake would die.
  • The sapphire, along with the related ruby, are the second-hardest natural gemstones, with only the diamond being harder.

THIS MONTH IN HISTORY

September 12: Choices

On this day in 1962, President John F. Kennedy went to Rice University in Houston, Texas, to make a speech justifying his proposed $5.4 billion space program. He had called on Congress in the previous year to fund a massive project to put a man on the Moon and bring him home safely before the end of the decade. Toward that end, he asked his vice president, Lyndon Johnson, to make it happen. Johnson, a Texan, was happy to oblige.

The plan was to establish a Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, upon land that had been made available by Rice University (which had received it from Humble Oil and Refining Company). If that happened, federal money would flow to that city and to Rice, a university distinguished for its scholarship, if not for its football. In football, the University of Texas was king, although Rice gamely played Texas every year.

Kennedy challenged 35,000 listeners, sweltering in the Rice football stadium, to think big: “But why, some say, the Moon? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask, Why climb the highest mountain? Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic?” he asked. Then he added another impossible goal, one he had jotted in the margin only minutes earlier: “Why does Rice play Texas?”

The line drew a huge laugh and added a touch of humor and humility to the soaring rhetoric. His speech continued, soon issuing the now famous lines, “We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard … .”

Kennedy eventually got his moonshot, although he did not live to see Neil Armstrong’s 1969 moonwalk. And, three years after the speech, in 1965, Rice beat Texas. It would be 28 years before that happened again.
