June 8 World Oceans Day
Today is: World Oceans Day
JOIN US
This year’s United Nations World Oceans Day, on 8 June 2022, will highlight the theme Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean.
This is the first hybrid celebration of the annual event, hosted in-person at the UN Headquarters in New York and broadcast live.
The ocean connects, sustains, and supports us all. Yet its health is at a tipping point and so is the well-being of all that depends on it. As the past years have shown us, we need to work together to create a new balance with the ocean that no longer depletes its bounty but instead restores its vibrancy and brings it new life.
Join us as we shed light on the communities, ideas, and solutions that are working together to protect and revitalize the ocean and everything it sustains.
UN World Oceans Day 2022 is Hosted by the United Nations Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, Office of Legal Affairs, with the generouse contribution of Oceanic Global, which is made possible by La Mer.
Gardening by June’s 2022 Moon Phases – Printable

Please read this first:
1) Moon Phase x Moon Zodiac Sign:
Please keep in mind, that Gardening by Moon Phase and Gardening by Moon Zodiac Sign are two different/independent biodynamic systems and they might give you different or contradictiory gardening recommendations.
- a) Each Moon Phase (except Full Moon and New Moon) lasts about 1 week
- b) Each Moon Zodiac Sign lasts about 2.5 days
Try to experiment with these two systems to find which recommendations suits you the most.
2) Tropical (Astrological) x Sidereal (Astronomical) Zodiac:
(1-2 days difference in Leaf, Fruit, Root and Flower days)
There are two different zodiacs for determining the Moon Sign:
- a) Tropical zodiac (Astrological) is based on the seasons – Vernal Equinox is fixed as 0° Aries (The 1st Fruit day)
- b) Sidereal zodiac (Astronomical) takes into account Precession of Equinoxes and shifts 0° Aries back by cca 1-2 days. Maria Thun who was an authority on biodynamics was using this Sidereal zodiac
Try to experiment also with these two zodiac systems to find which system suits you better.

Moon Alert
Avoid shopping or important decisions from 8 AM to 12 noon EDT today (5 AM to 9 AM PDT). After that, the Moon moves from Virgo into Libra.
Aries (March 21-April 19)
This is a marvellous, productive day for you. (By all means, do get out of bed.) You’re full of moneymaking ideas and ways to promote your earnings. Coworkers might help you. You might also see new uses for something that you own. This is a strong day for you!
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
This is a powerful day for Earth Signs in particular (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn). You will enjoy social outings as well as sports events and playful activities with children. Because you’re in a creative frame of mind, you might see ways to put a new spin on something.
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
Use today’s energy to do research or look for answers to old problems or solutions to bothersome situations because you will likely be successful. Plus, with the Sun in your sign, things will tend to go your way and people are likely to help you.
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
You will be powerful today when talking to others, especially friends and groups, meetings or classes. People will listen to you because you will speak with confidence and authority. Nevertheless, later in the day, you might choose to “hide” at home. “Enuff awreddy.”
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
Today, especially this morning, is a strong time for you to speak to bosses, parents and authority figures about what you want because they will listen to you. Admittedly, they too, will be very direct in their communications. You might see ways to improve your job or your health.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
Today begins with the Moon in your sign dancing powerfully with Mercury and Pluto. Even after the Moon changes signs, you will still be in the zone to make things happen, especially financially or regarding making travel plans and studying. Good day to get things done!
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
Today you might have some excellent ideas about how to use the resources of others including the government, banks or your partner’s assets to make improvements at home or in your personal life. After the Moon moves into your sign, you will be more empowered to go after what you want.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
Expect to have dynamic conversations with others today – your friends, partners, spouses and even members of the general public. You will express yourself forcefully and so will they. Hopefully, this will be in the interests of getting things done.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
This is a good day to focus on how to improve your job, your health or even how you take care of your pet. Look for ways to do things better, because let’s face it, there is no end to better. There is always room for improvement.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
Today you are in an exploratory frame of mind. You want to test new ideas and see discover ways of thinking. Later in the day, you might find yourself in the public eye more than usual. Perhaps people know certain details about your private life? (Be aware of this.)
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
Family discussions as well as plans for home repairs will be successful today. The support and resources that you need will be there, and later in the day, you might try new approach to something. A different way of doing things perhaps?
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
This is a busy, productive day for you. Short trips, errands and appointments will flow smoothly. Admittedly, during the Moon Alert, you might encounter a few speed bumps or delays. Nevertheless, you will be very convincing talking to others today – no question.
If Your Birthday Is Today
Actress Millicent Martin (1934) shares your birthday today. You are passionate and eager about life! You are versatile and interested in everything. You are an entertaining storyteller who loves a challenge. This year is slower paced. It’s time to rest and focus on your closest relationships. Take time to figure out what makes you happy.
June 8, 2022 Current Moon Phase Digest

You can use this link to go forward or backward in time for Moon phase information. If you are curious, you can even find out what phase the Moon was in when you or anyone else was born.
From MoonGiant.com
The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a Waxing Gibbous phase. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. The phase lasts about 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous the moon rises in the east in mid-afternoon and is high in the eastern sky at sunset. The moon is then visible through most of the night sky setting a few hours before sunrise. The word Gibbous first appeared in the 14th century and has its roots in the Latin word “gibbosus” meaning humpbacked.
Visit the June 2022 Moon Phases Calendar to see all the daily moon phase for this month.

Spell for Today – Walk Backwards Return Spell and Concentrate Candle Spell
Wednesday is a good day to focus on getting over any slumps you may have. This day is considered the middle of the work week; and many people find themselves very tired by this point. That is why this day is a great day to do refresh, refrain, return, wake-up, and concentration spells. It is, also, another good day for meditation.
Walk Backwards Return Spell
Things you will need:
1 candle (any color)
1 lighter or match
Your body
Place a candle in front of you on a fire-safe surface. Sit or stand in a comfortable position in front of the candle and close your eyes for about three minutes. During the three minutes, think about what you want returned to you and how that item makes you feel. After the three minutes or so, get up and take twelve steps backwards and say this chant three times:
“Backwards walk.
Missing something yearned.
When I turn around,
It will be returned.”
After doing this, turn around three times, clockwise, and stop. Now, go blow out the candle, and your item should be returned to you soon.
Concentrate Candle Spell
Items needed:
1 small white candle
1 small blue candle
1 orange candle
Take all three candles and place them on a fire-proof surface in front of you. Light both candles. Take three deep breaths. Lightly tap your forehead with one of your fingers for a minute or so. You should feel a slight tingly sensation on your forehead. Now, look at the three candles and say this chant three times:
“I have the time.
I have the wait.
This should help me concentrate.
When it’s white And it’s blue,
It will start my mind a new.”
After you have finished, blow out the candles. From this point on, when you have problems concentrating, think of those white, blue, and orange candles, and the tingle in your forehead; and your mind should be better able to concentrate.

Ship Tracks over the Pacific Ocean
Image Credit: NASA, Terra, MODIS; Text: Raymond Shaw (MTU)
Explanation: What are those unusual streaks? Some images of planet Earth show clear bright streaks that follow the paths of ships. Known as ship tracks, these low and narrow bands are caused by the ship’s engine exhaust. Water vapor condenses around small bits of exhaust known as aerosols, which soon grow into floating water drops that efficiently reflect sunlight. Ship tracks were first discovered in 1965 in Earth images taken by NASA’s TIROS satellites. Multiple ship tracks are visible across the featured image that was captured in 2009 over the Pacific Ocean by the MODIS instrument on NASA’s Terra satellite. Inspired by ship-tracks, some scientists have suggested deploying a network of floating buoys in the worlds’ oceans that spray salt-aerosol containing sea-water into the air so that, with the help of the wind, streams of sunlight-reflecting clouds would also form. Why do this? These human-made clouds could reflect so much sunlight they might help fight global warming.

Moon Alert
There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The Moon is in Virgo.
Aries (March 21-April 19)
Unexpected events might catch you off guard today, especially something that is related to your health or your work. (This might also be something related to your pet; so be alert.) At work, allow extra time to deal with such surprises as machinery breakdowns, staff shortages and late deliveries. “What, again?”
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Parents, please keep an eye on your kids today because this is an accident-prone day for your children. Likewise, social events might suddenly change. They might be cancelled or you might receive a surprise invitation? Sports results will surprise. You feel free today!
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
Your home routine might change today because small appliances might break down or something unexpected could occur. Someone unexpected might knock at your door. To be ready for anything, get dressed. It’s a mild influence but nevertheless, something will catch you off guard.
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
This is a mildly accident-prone day so be careful. Pay attention to everything you say and do. Especially when it comes to travel, give yourself extra time so you can cope with whatever occurs. The upside, you can think outside of the box and come up with clever, genius-like ideas!
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
Keep an eye on your money and your assets today because something unexpected might impact them. For example, possibly, you will find money or you will lose money. In the same vein, (but a different arm) be smart and protect your belongings from loss, theft or damage. Play it safe today.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
Today the Moon is in your sign dancing with wild, wacky Uranus. This is why you feel restless and eager for something different and new to happen. You might even play the role of the trickster and stir the pot, as it were, when dealing with someone just to see what happens. (Be nice.)
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
Something unexpected might occur today, possibly behind the scenes. In a way, this will intrigue you because you crave emotional excitement today. Preferably across the street – not in your face. Something you can watch from afar.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
You might find yourself dealing with friends or groups of people who advocate for new policies or reform in some fashion. Their platform will excite you. Possibly, you will want to give input to what they are doing? A friend might surprise you today.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
You might find yourself at odds with a group that you are working with or alternatively, they embrace you with admiration. Could go either way. Whatever the case, you are high viz. perhaps for taking a stand or saying something unusual.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
Travel plans might change today. They could be cancelled or delayed or in turn, you might suddenly have to travel when you did not expect to do so. News in the media might surprise you. You certainly want the freedom to express your views.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
Double check banking details and anything to do with taxes, debt, insurance issues and the wealth or assets of your partner because something unexpected could impact these areas. When it comes to money or wealth that affects you – be in the know.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
Don’t be surprised if a partner or close friend catches you off guard today by saying or doing something you did not expect. (This is classic for a day when the Moon is stimulated by unpredictable Uranus.) Many people are caught off guard by minor events or conversations today. To play it safe, allow extra time for wiggle room.
If Your Birthday Is Today
Actor Lance Reddick (1962) shares your birthday today. You are sharp, observant and vigilant. You work hard. You’re a good judge of character and easy-going with others. Personally, you have strong spiritual values. This year is the first year of a new, nine-year cycle for you. Many opportunities will come your way. Be courageous, open-minded and ready to open any door!

From MoonGiant.com
The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a First Quarter phase. This phase occurs roughly 7 days after the New Moon when the moon is one quarter of the way through its orbit around the earth. Exactly half the moon will be illuminated and half dark. On the day of the First Quarter phase the moon is high overhead at sunset and is visible until mid-night when it sets in the west. The First Quarter phase is a one-day event and in the following days enters a Waxing Gibbous phase becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon.
Visit the June 2022 Moon Phases Calendar to see all the daily moon phase for this month.
Today’s First Quarter Phase
The First Quarter on June 7 has an illumination of 49%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On June 7 the Moon is 7.27 days old. This refers to how many days it has been since the last New Moon. It takes 29.53 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth and go through the lunar cycle of all 8 Moon phases.
The 8 Lunar Phases
There are 8 lunar phases the Moon goes through in its 29.53 days lunar cycle. The 4 major Moon phases are Full Moon, New Moon, First Quarter and Last Quarter. Between these major phases, there are 4 minor ones: the Waxing Crescent, Waxing Gibbous, Waning Gibbous and Waning Crescent. NGC 6188: Dragons of Ara
Image Credit & Copyright: Shaun Robertson
Explanation: Do dragons fight on the altar of the sky? Although it might appear that way, these dragons are illusions made of thin gas and dust. The emission nebula NGC 6188, home to the glowing clouds, is found about 4,000 light years away near the edge of a large molecular cloud unseen at visible wavelengths, in the southern constellation Ara (the Altar). Massive, young stars of the embedded Ara OB1 association were formed in that region only a few million years ago, sculpting the dark shapes and powering the nebular glow with stellar winds and intense ultraviolet radiation. The recent star formation itself was likely triggered by winds and supernova explosions, from previous generations of massive stars, that swept up and compressed the molecular gas. Joining NGC 6188 on this cosmic canvas, visible toward the lower right, is rare emission nebula NGC 6164, also created by one of the region’s massive O-type stars. Similar in appearance to many planetary nebulae, NGC 6164’s striking, symmetric gaseous shroud and faint halo surround its bright central star near the bottom edge. This impressively wide field of view spans over 2 degrees (four full Moons), corresponding to over 150 light years at the estimated distance of NGC 6188.
