Other Names – Cetsamhain (opposite Samhain),May Day, Fairy Day,Sacred Thorn Day, Rood Day, Roodmas (the Christian term for Rood Day, Old Beltane, Beltaine, Beltain, Baltane, Walpurgis Night, Floriala (Roman feast of flowers from April 29 to May 1), Walpurgisnacht (Germanic-feast of St. Walpurga), Thrimilce (Anglo-saxon), Bloumaand (Old Dutch)

-Make paper baskets (use yarn as a handle) and place real or silk flowers in each basket. Hang them on door knobs of neighbors and family members but don’t let them know you did it!

-If you have children, make necklaces out of diasies and place them around their necks for the day to bring protection to them.

-Begin planting for the season.

-Create a MayPole and dance around it with your family or friends.

-Make a dish of fruits, berries, nuts and leave in the wood for the animals and fae folk to enjoy

– This is a night for bonfires, torch-lit processions and the high revelry of witches, preferably in high places. It is prime time for the Great Rite, a night (like Samhain) when the Goddess descends into women. Cailleach Beara (Cally Berry, Brighid’s crone aspect) turns to stone this night and does not to return until Samhain. Beltane Eve also marks the setting of the Pleiades

This plus arthritis is what I and others deal with daily. Just because we don’t always need to use a cane or wheelchair or other mobility devices does not mean we do not have a disability. Weather changes really put me in a fibro flare which makes it hard to type and do a lot of other things. Celtic Calendar Month- Ivy September 30 to October 27

Beginning September 30th through October 27th we celebrate the Celtic Tree month of Ivy.  Although Ivy is not what most consider a tree, it still holds its place among the others in Celtic Tree Lore.  Its uses and importance are just as strong as that of the Oak or Hazel. In the coming weeks we will examine a few of these important traits. 
Ivy is a wild evergreen climbing vine that attaches itself to other trees as well as stone walls and other surfaces. It climbs such surfaces by fibers that grow our from every part of the stem. These fibers resembles roots and have small disks at the end by which it attaches itself to the roughness of the tree or wall it is climbing. If by chance the ivy finds soil or a deep crack the fibers will then become roots. These roots act as a means to obtain nourishment for the stem as it climbs. When this is done to another tree, the ivy can actually injure the tree it is attached to by taking of the trees life resources to aid itself.
Ivy only produces flowers when the branches get above their support. The flowering branches are bushy and come out from the climbing stem with flowers at the end of each shoot. Usually an ivy will flower during Autumn if there is enough sunlight. They appear as small clusters of greenish white or yellow . They can continue to bloom until late December. There bloom is scentless yet still they are a good source of food for birds, and insects during the cooler months when there…

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

You will work hard in the next four weeks. Your standards will be high. Not only will you want to get a lot done, you’ll want to be efficient! Because of this, you might criticize coworkers. Lighten up because they’re probably not as motivated as you are. Your high standards might extend to your health, as well. You might entertain a new fad, or adopt a new eating regime, or exercise more because you will do something to improve your health. Mars opposite your sign can make you annoyed with others – especially partners and spouses. Stay chill. Venus is now in your House of Communications making your words sweet, which is why others will find you charming and diplomatic. This new placement of the Sun and Mercury will increase your focus on family and home. Family discussions will take place, perhaps about home repairs. Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

The pace of your days is accelerating! Short trips, increased reading, writing and studying plus errands, appointments and discussions with siblings and relatives give you a jam-packed schedule. (It’s fun busy – not hectic busy.) Increased activity on the home front might create chaos. What sweetens the pot is Venus will attract money to you, (so handy when you want to buy things). Four planets are changing signs, and one of them brings fair Venus to Virgo, which will increase your desire to relate to everyone, and make you project feelings of warmth and agreement. Pleasure will rank above work. Good times with friends, short vacations and anything that is fun and pleasing will be your first choice. Because both the Sun and Mercury have moved into your Money House, your focus on earnings and cash flow will grow. “Shops must be visited. Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

The Sun has moved into your sign to stay for four weeks, giving you the chance to recharge your batteries for the rest of year. The Sun will not only boost your energy; it will attract people and favourable situations to you as well. Please note: This happens only once a year, and it means your first duty is to yourself. You’ll find that you have a greater need to express yourself. You have something to say! Mercury has also moved into Libra as well, increasing your desire to express your views. Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Once every two years, fiery Mars enters your sign to stay for six weeks. This is happening right now giving you a marvelous boost to your energy, drive, focus and aggression. This is why you’ll be much more of a fighter for your own rights than usual. (Also, the defender of others.) Your physical energy will be high, which means you’ll be able to do a lot of work and get things done. This is a positive time in your life. Venus is in your House of Friendships sweetening relations with groups, organizations and friends. The Sun and Mercury are hiding in your chart, which will make you want to keep a low profile until your birthday arrives. Sit pretty.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Get ready for a popular month because both the Sun and Mercury have entered your House of Friendship activating your interest in groups and organizations. Friendships will be more important; and it will be easy for you to cooperate with others. This is why the next four weeks are a great time to socialize, as well as to observe your friends. Are these your people? Are you a member of their tribe? Be confident about establishing who you are so that you can fit in with a group dynamic. Venus is now at the top of your chart creating favourable circumstances for your business and professional life. Bosses and people in authority will admire you. Romance with someone older might begin. A pleasant planetary combo!

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

The next four weeks are special for you because it’s the only time all year when the Sun is at the top of your chart, casting you (symbolically) in a flattering spotlight. This means you look good to others, especially bosses and VIPs – even if you don’t do anything different. (It’s smoke and mirrors.) You can use this to your advantage! Go after what you want. Make your pitch. Submit an application. Ask for a favour. See what happens. Travel for pleasure as well as romance with someone “different” will also make life interesting. Use diplomacy when dealing with groups, organizations and friends in the next few weeks because you might be coming on too strong. Demonstrate grace under pressure.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

In the next four weeks, you’ll have a strong urge to travel and discover new things. If you can, get out and see new places! If not, travel through books and film. Mars is now at the top of your chart where it will stay for six weeks arousing your ambition. Oh yes, you mean business! Venus has just moved into one of your Money Houses, encouraging gifts, goodies and favours to come your way. This is a wonderful backdrop to support your ability to improve your existing job or get a better job. Yes, it’s all coming together. Have you noticed that the more things change, the more they stay insane?

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

With the four major changes taking place right now (the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars) – you’re bombarded with different influences and messages. Venus will improve all your relationships – personal, marital and professional. (You can’t beat that.) Mars will make you eager to travel and explore your surroundings. You will seek out intellectual discussions and defend your beliefs. You might also be involved more with the law. Both the Sun and Mercury will push you to privacy and passion. (Oh yes – you’ll play your cards close to your heaving bosom.) Discussions about shared property, inheritances and financial matters will be significant. I picked this picture today because I have been having a discussion with someone of a different skin color than myself about racism and prejudices. I personally am not a racist or prejudicial person if I was I could not walk the walk or talk the talk I do on a daily basis. I personally feel that the only way to stop this type of thinking and behavior id to show others through my life that not every one of a different color or religion or sexual orientation or whatever other prejudice the person may carry in their mind is true. There are good and horrible people in every color, every nationality, every religion, every sexual orientation, ectara.

Please always remember that know matter who you are, where you come from, what life has shown you that you are GOOD ENOUGH to be treated with respect and dignity always!

Welcome to WOTC! A Thought for Today and Some Other Information

I am still working on clean up of WOTC website but wanted to do a full day of regular posts for you all because I have not done this for a while. Some of the information on the regular posts are being offered differently to make sure of no copyright infringements occur and all websites I use to gather information are correctly given credit.

I was recently asked why I ask for monetary donations for doing spells or rituals or clearing or animal spirit guide readings. I spend hours a day working either behind the scenes and/or posting just to spread the truth about Witchcraft and bring information to all traditions of paganism/witchcraft and never expect a donation for this work unless someone is kind enough to give me one. Yes I did ask for donations in years gone by to help me out I no longer to do so as my husband now has a job that can cover all our living expenses and I can do this website for enjoyment and knowledge. When it comes to doing spells, rituals, clearings, and spirit animal readings I feel my time and items needs for the spell or ritual is more business like and worth me making a little money from. If you check out other witch websites that charge for different things my prices are way below theirs. I do not want to charge the high amounts as I feel my abilities should be in a price range available to anyone. Some of you may disagree with me for charging anything for services I advertise through WOTC but it is not a directly related to the posts I do. I hope this clarifies why I charge for spells, rituals, clearings and readings.

Welcome to WOTC! A Thought for Today

Due to some changes in copyright infringement laws you will see some post disappear until I get the authors/websites permission to use their content on her. In some posts you will only see a link back to the website to read the information where that is the only information I have to use their content on WOTC. I do not want to put this website left in my hands by Lady of the Abyss be pulled because of copyright infringement nor can I afford a court case for it. You will see, especially in the informational posts only a paragraph or two and than the link to finish read them. Some of the regular posts will also be changing on how much information is given before having to go to the original website that has the information. The beginning of the month birthstone, flower, and other information missing as of now but I will be writing my own post on that information starting with September, I will also be making changes to the other monthly information.

I hope you understand why I have to do this. I will make every attempt to still bring you quality information on all the topic first Lady Abyss posted about and for the last ten years I have been bring to you. Please be patient with me as I do the major overall on WOTC I will be working on this as much as I have time to daily. There will not be as many informational posts while I am doing this.

(One Person’s View) The Runes and The Elemental Links

Most people with even a smattering of knowledge of astrology will be aware of the elements of earth,
air, fire and water, and that three zodiac signs fit into each element. It should come as no surprise,
therefore, to learn that a rune also corresponds to each element.

What follows here are the most widely accepted linkages between the elements and four of the runes.
Also given are other runes which are said to link in with the element being discussed.

Earth

The element of earth is concerned with solid foundations, and with keeping in touch with reality. It
may be interesting to learn that Eihwaz, an earth rune, is sometimes called ‘the Rune of Death’ because
of the poisonous qualities of the yew tree with which it is associated.

Also associated with the earth element are Uruz, Wunjo, Berkana, Othila, Isa (which can also link
with the water element, ice being frozen water) and Jera. Isa, Eihwaz and Jera are also said to link
with the New Moon.

Water

Kaunaz is, surprisingly, a water rune. It relates to bonfires, but does not equate to the element of fire.
To the Vikings, bonfires were a physical light in the darkness, as well as symbolising inner knowledge
or enlightenment. It relates to emotions and intuition, and therefore its element is water. Some
runemasters will disagree here, preferring to keep Kaunaz with its symbol of fire.

Also associated with the water element are Perth, Lagu, Ing, Raido and Gebo. Hagalaz has
connections with ice, and so also correctly belongs with this element. Kaunaz, Raido and Gebo are
said to link with the waning of the moon. Gebo and Raido also link with the element of air.

Air

Ansuz, an air rune has a strong connection with Odin, who was considered to have discovered the
runes in the root of the Tree of the World, and as such has a link with the ash tree. He was also
considered to be the source of knowledge and inspiration and it therefore follows that Odin should be
described as the source of language, and the runes as a form of communication.

Ansuz relates to the element of air, to divine breath, to thought and to the power of the intellect.
Also associated with the element of air are Teiwaz, Berkana (which also links to earth having a
duality in element) and Ehwaz, which also link with the waxing of the moon. Algiz is also said to link
with the air element, as do Sowelu and Mannaz.

It should be noted that some runemasters suggest that Ansuz is more correctly linked with fire and
water rather than air.

Fire

Dagaz is a fire rune, and represents day, breakthrough. It is associated, too, with the dawn of the
world, since the earth was born in flames. Dagaz is considered to be the illuminator, the light, and as
such cannot be destroyed. It is the guardian by the doorway, a protective force against anything
harmful. Dagaz is another case of elemental duality, associated both with fire and air.

Also associated with the element of fire are Othila and Fehu, which also link with the full moon, and
with the element of earth – again, being dual in elemental nature. Thurisaz, Nauthiz and Eihwaz are
also said to link with fire, but it is worth noting that many runemasters consider Eihwaz as belonging
