WOTC Extra – An Earth Elemental Spell – A Spell to Attract Prosperity

An Earth Elemental Spell

A Spell to Attract Prosperity

This spell requires a handful of very rich soil. If all else fails, you can usually find organic soil at garden supply shops, but this will work better if you can find some in nature (lakes and rivers often have great organic silt).

To cast it, you will spread the soil in a thin layer over a surface that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty. Lay your hand on the dirt, and begin sensing the life-giving energy within it. As you do this, start to pour your own energy into it, and visualize your energy forming itself into a tiny sphere, buried within the dirt. As you continue to add energy to it, feel the earth elemental energy combine with your own. Next, visualize your sphere of energy beginning to open up, like a seed that is germinating. Continue adding energy as you visualize the seed growing into stalks, and then into a full plant formed out of your energy.

Finally watch the plant continue to age, blossom, and bear fruit. As you do this, fill your energy with the intent that this spell create circumstances that allow you to grow, flourish and reap the fruits of your efforts, just as your energy is representing. As a final step, visualize yourself picking the fruit from the plant, and swallowing it. Leave the dirt in place overnight before removing it and cleaning up.

The Fordeda’s

Fifth Aicme (Consonants) Forfedas
The Forfedas (extra letters) were invented in the Old Irish period (725 CE to about 950 CE), several centuries after the peak of Ogham usage. They appear to have represented sounds felt to be missing from the original alphabet.

They are not found in any stone inscriptions. It is thought that the Benedictine monks added the forfedas in an effort to make ogham a more literary alphabet with which to record in.
The five forfeda are given as an additional vocalic aicme, with the values, found in Auraicept na n-Éces, (De dúilib feda) and In Lebor Ogaim.

It should be noted that the five forfeda are only known from manuscript tradition, which attributes to them a variety of values.

(ch / k) Éabhadh   (EHV-uh)

Aspen (True Tree)
Word Ogham of Morann Mac Main states:
Snamchain feda, most buoyant of wood, that is ebad, aspen, with him, for fair swimming is wood; that is a name for the great raven. Hence it was put for the letter named the Ogham ebad, for e is a name for salmon, and it is written by ea like the alphabet of the fauna:
From the word-oghams of Mac ind Oic:
Comainm carat, synonym for a friend, aspen, e, in the forest. Hence for its synonymous Ogham letter.
Cosc lobair, corrective of a sick man, woodbine for the Ogham letter, which has taken a name other than it, ebad, aspen, ea.

oi (th) Ór    (Oir)

Ivy
Word Ogham of Morann Mac Main states:
Sruitem aicdi, most venerable of structures, i.e., oir, oi, spindle tree, according to fact. Hence it was put for the letter owing to the identity of the name that is between them, to wit, oir is the name of each of them.
From the word-oghams of Mac ind Oic:
Silad clann, growing of plants, that is ur, heath, u with him, for it is uir, the soil of the earth, that causes the growing of the plants that are put into it. Growing of plants, again, said of the soil of the earth, is said of the Ogham letter which has taken the same name with it, each of them is ur.

ui (io, ph) Uilleann    (Uilen)

Honeysuckle
Word Ogham of Morann Mac Main states:
Tutmur fid uilleann, juicy wood is woodbine, that is woodbine with him, for it is a name for honeysuckle. Hence it was put for the Ogham named woodbine, ui; for hence was woodbine put for it, for it is a name for honeysuckle.
From the word-oghams of Mac ind Oic:
Cubat n-oll, great equal-length, woodbine, i.e., honeysuckle. Hence for the Ogham letter which it has taken from it, woodbine, ui.

ia (p / pe) Ifín     (Iphín)

Gooseberry
Word Ogham of Morann Mac Main states:
Millsem feda, sweetest of wood, that is gooseberry with him, for a name for the tree called pin is millsem feda. Gooseberries are hence named. Hence it was put for the letter named pin, for hence pin, or ifin, io, was put for it.
From the word-oghams of Mac ind Oic:
Amram blais, most wonderful of taste, pin or ifin, gooseberry. Hence for the letter that has taken its name from it, pin or iphin, io.

ae (x / xi) Eamhancholl    (Emancholl)

Phagos
Word Ogham of Morann Mac Main states:
Luad soethaig, expression of a weary one, i.e., ach, ah! uch, alas! that is emancoll, ae, with him, for emancoll is taken for ach, though it may be taken for something else. Finit WordOgham of Morann.
The name Eamhancholl means “twinned C”, referring to the shape of the letter, and gives no indication of sound value.

Whispering Woods Ogham Course – Lesson One

Whispering Woods Ogham Course – Lesson One

orgham

The Ogham “OH-ehm” alphabet is referred to as “beth luis nion”. The name represents the names of the first, second, and fifth letters of the Ogham alphabet.

The letters themselves consist of one to five perpendicular or angled strokes, meeting or crossing a centerline.
These letters were often inscribed in wood or stone. The alphabet itself consists of twenty letters and fivediphthongs.
The first twenty letters are divided into three sets of five consonants and one set of five vowels.

The five diphthongs were thought to have been added later to ease the transition from Latin to ancient Irish.

There is an understanding that the names of the main twenty letters are also the names of 20 trees which are sacred to the druids.

Vowels were sometimes described as a combination of dots.

The midline was often, the edge of the object on which the inscription was carved; this is called a “Druim” which means ridge or spine.
The “Eite” (feather) and “Eite thuathail” (reversed feather) symbols are used at the beginning and end of sentences respectively.
A 15th century treatise on Ogham, “The Book of Ballymote”, confirms that ogham was a secret, ritualistic language.
According to the Highland Society of Scotland’s Dictionary of the Gaelic Language (1828 CE), Ogham is the “occult” manner of writing used by the ancient Irish.

The primary manuscript sources for information on Ogham are “The Scholars Primer” (Auraicept Na nEces), “Values of the Forfeda” (De Duilib Feda na Forfid) and the “Book of Ogham” (Leber Ogam).

These sources are quoted in the 12th century Book of Leinster and the 14th century manuscript, the Book of Ballymote.
One legend has it that the Scythian king, Fenius Farsa (or Fenius Farsaidh), visited the Tower of Babel shortly after its destruction, only to find that that the builders of the tower had already dispersed.

Fenius stayed at the tower, but sent out seventy-two scholars to study each of the seventytwo languages that were now spoken by the builders of the tower.

After ten years the scholars returned, and Fenius took the best parts of each language in order to create a “selected language”, which he named Goidelic after his companion Goídel mac Ethéoir.

Fenius is also reputed to have discovered four writing systems, Hebrew, Greek, Latin and Ogham, and as Ogham was the most perfect of the four it was chosen for writing the Goidelic (Gaelic) language.
And others believe that the Ogham may be related to a 13 month lunar calendar. This line of thought comes from the book “The White Goddess” by Robert Graves.

I personally don’t subscribe to this particular concept as put forth by Mr. Graves.
Ogham is used as a source of divination, but I personally believe that this is a rather modern adaption of this ancient alphabet, as there are no documents supporting such a use in ancient times.

For the most part, all the Ogham inscriptions that exist are burial monuments, property divisions, or landmarks.
The Ogham was written from the bottom to top or occasionally from left to right.

The greatest concentration of surviving ogham inscriptions are in southern Ireland. A 1945 survey found 121 in Kerry and 81 in Co. Cork, while others are scattered throughout Ireland, Great Britain, and the Isle of Man, with five in Cornwall, about thirty in Scotland, mainly in ‘Pictish’ areas, and more than forty in Wales.

Similar carvings have been found in the state of West Virginia in the USA. This has led to some speculation that the Celts may have come to the New World as early as 100 BCE.
The name Ogham or Ogam was derived from the Celtic God of Literature and Eloquence, “Ogma”.  To the Gaul’s, he was known as “Ogmios”. Ogma was also known as Cermait (Honey-Mouthed), and Grianainech (Sunny-Faced).

He was a son of the Daghda and that he created the ogham and presented it to the druids. He was said to lead his followers around by chains of gold and amber that lead from his tongue to their ears.
He was considered a “strong man” of the Tuatha De Danann and was often compared to the Greek, ‘Hercules”. It is thought that he resides in a Sidhe called “Airceltrai”.

Quiz:
1. The Ogham consists of how many letters?
2. The midline is called the _________.
3. The Book of Ballymote is a 15th. Century treatise on  _______.
4. Robert Graves states that Ogham is related to a 13 month _____   ______.
5. The names of the main 20 letters are also the names of   ___   ______.
6. Ogham was created by the God _______.
7. The _____ is the symbol used at the beginning of each sentence.

Healing Arts and Pagan Studies – Dragon Day Spell

Wiccan Magic

Dragon Day Spell

Today is the day to use dragon energy. Dragon energy is straightforward, so be careful for what you ask. You will receive it in the most direct way. Be very specific. Dragon logic is not human logic. Dragon moves from A to B, and simply removes anything in its way. For example: an acquaintance asked Dragon, without going into specifics, to change her living situation. As a result, a few days later there was a fire in her apartment building, and she was left without a place to live. That’s a change, but it was not the one she wanted! Dragon energy is great for removing blocks, but only use it when you are determined to make a change.

Using Dragon energy when you fear change will backfire on you. Pick something in your life that you wish to unblock. Find an image of a dragon that you feel connected to. Decorate your altar using bright colors and shiny, sparkly accessories. Cast a circle. Invite Dragon energy to join you in the ritual. Discuss the situation thoroughly with Dragon; consider the options, and request Dragon’s help in a way that will harm none. Ground and close the circle. You should feel energized at the end of the ritual. Dragon energy usually works quickly and in unexpected ways, so be aware of everything around you—as rapid change is on its way.

Spells Create Change That You Can’t Always See

When you think about witches casting spell you probably see an image in your mind of black clad women stirring a steaming large black pot over a fire. Or maybe you think of a witch waving a wand and turning a prince into a frog, or vice versa. But that’s Disney magic. Real magic is often very subtle and hard to detect. So you have to be on the lookout for small changes after you cast a spell.

When you cast a spell you are directing energy that will create change like the ripples in a pond. The changes that are created often won’t be obvious or dramatic. But the spells that you cast will result in events unfolding to give you the opportunity to make huge changes in your life. You have to be paying attention and you have to seize the opportunities.

Often people who are new to Wicca will think that a spell they cast didn’t work because they won’t be looking for the signs that it did work. For example if you cast a spell to get a new job you probably will not get a call out of the blue from the company you have been dying to work for. But, you might find yourself talking to a stranger at a party or on the train who works at that company and can recommend you for a job to HR department. Or if you want to move up at your current company a job might open up that would be perfect for you.

If you cast a spell for more money a stack of money won’t just appear, and the winning lottery numbers probably won’t either. But you might find a unique opportunity for a part time income like teaching something that you love. Be ready for all the opportunities that spells will create for you.

Lady A’s Spell of the Day – A Simple Shield Spell

A Simple Shield Spell

It works very well and is easy to use. It breaks curses, shields the one who cast it from harm, and stops negative magick focused on you.

“Powers of nature, come to me.

Shield me from the magick of Three.

Bring to me the elements four,

fire that burns, air that soars,

earth that rumbles to water that flows.

As I cast thee, shield, all evil goes.”

Write Your Own Spells

When you are just starting to develop your magical practice you might want to use generic spells to get started. But you should write your own spells as soon as possible. When you are writing your own spells you are putting your energy into the words and the spell will be more powerful because it’s personal to you and it has your energy in it. Here are some tips for writing spells:

Don’t get caught up in the language – Spells don’t have to rhyme, although they can if you want them to. They don’t have to be full of huge important words either. Don’t worry about making it sound poetic or flowery. As long as it comes from your heart that is all that matters.

State your intention clearly – Be very clear about what you are asking for. If you are writing a spell for love then specify what kind of love you want such as a long term romance, a marriage, a life-partner, or a quick but fun fling. If you are writing a spell for better health state clearly the problems that need to be changed like you want to have more energy or you want to be slim again.

Follow the format – Each spell should have the same basic format. The spell should start with a blessing or invocation of the spirits. Then you should state what you want. Then make a small offering and give thanks. Spells don’t have to be long but they should all include your thanks at the end.

Write the spell down – Keep your spells in case you need them again. You can always change them or add on to them later if you find that the spell isn’t as effective as you want. Eventually you will create your own Book of Shadows to hold all your personal spells.

Let’s Talk Witch – Spells Are Essential

Celtic Goddess

Spells Are Essential

A lot of people get scared by the idea of casting a spell, but really a spell is just like a prayer to a Wiccan. Instead of praying to a deity to make something happen a witch uses a spell to focus all the energy around them and make things happen. Spells can be just as powerful as prayers, and really are a type of prayer if you think about it.

Spells can be created for just about any purpose. Just don’t use spells to hurt or manipulate others. A spell can be a simple two sentence statement or can be a multiple paragraph speech. As long as the Wiccan performing the spell does it with good intentions and clear direction a spell can be powerful even when it’s short. In fact sometimes the shortest spells can be the most powerful, if there is a lot of focus behind them.

Saying spells out loud is a good way to focus on what you are doing and what you want to happen as a result. By speaking the words out loud you are announcing what you want to the Universe and putting all your energy out into the world. The ripple effects from that are what make the spell effective.

If necessary you can mutter the words under your breath but spells are better if you can announce them clearly in a powerful tone of voice. Performing spells with others will increase the amount of energy behind the spell and make it even more effective, so if you are casting a spell for something very important it is a good idea to get some of your Wiccan friends together to perform the spell with you.

Black Cord Binding Spell

BLACK CORD BINDING SPELL

Use this to bind someone from hurting others and themselves. ONLY do this if there are no other options available to you.

You need:

Black cord-long enough to tie 3 knots in

A photo of the person harming others
First of all sit and cast circle.
Explain to the universe what you are about to do and ask if it is the right thing. Think about how the person is hurting others and let the anger build up. Then all at once say loudly:

“(person’s name) I bind you from hurting others!”
Then quickly tie a knot tightly in the cord. Repeat the process three times or as many times you feel necessary.
When done, say:

“Three times three, I bind you (person’s name)!”
Hide the cord and photo in a safe place where the knots won’t come undone. Or better still, burn the cord so the knots never come undone. (you don’t really need a photo, but it helps make the magic stronger.

Breaking A Binding Spell

BREAKING A BINDING SPELL

You Will Need:

  • bit of your own hair
  • a small bowl.
  • 3 candles, 1 red, 1 white and 1 green.
  • a fire safe bowl or incense brazier,
  • piece of charcoal
  • myrrh
  • patchouli
  • sandalwood
  • prick your right index finger.
  • Squeeze three drops of blood

Some binding spells can cause physical manifestations. You feel as if invisible strands of hair or thin strings are wrapped around you. You can’t see them but you can feel them and nothing you do can make that sensation stop.
Here is a way to dispel a binding.

Cut a bit of your own hair and set it in a small bowl. Light 3 candles, 1 red, 1 white and 1 green. In a fire safe bowl or incense brazier, light a piece of charcoal and add some myrrh, patchouli and sandalwood incense (powdered kind not cone or stick). Take a sterile needle or pin and prick your right index finger. Squeeze three drops of blood into the smoldering incense. As you drop the hair onto the lit incense repeat these words:

With blood, candle and scent times three
No longer shall this binding be
Free to live and free to soar
Let me leave the house once more.
As I burn this hair, a part of me
Let my heart and soul be free!
And for those who doth cast despair
Binding me with sightless hair
I send to them this well-earned curse
Let their evil spell reverse!
Teach them mercy and love’s sweet gift
Once learned, this simple spell shall lift.
As is my will, so mote it be!

Let the incense burn out and scatter the ashes outside. Lifting the binding spell should take care of the problem. Keep an eye on those around you. Someone who wished you ill will start to experience the torment they put you through. Once they understand that what they did was wrong, then the sensation will fade and they will be back to normal.

OCEAN WISH SPELL

OCEAN WISH SPELL

Go to the ocean at dawn or dusk during the Waxing Moon, and bring with you:

– Small bottle Parchment Quill or fountain pen
–  Blue candle
–  Small moonstone or amethyst.

Cast your circle and sit on the sand facing the ocean.

Light the candle and place your ingredients before you.

On the parchment, draw a pentacle with the pen and place the amethyst or moonstone in the center of it. Focus your energy on the stone, visualizing it glowing and shining with power. When you feel ready, whisper a simple wish and sprinkle some sand over the stone, visualizing the sand absorbing your wish. Roll up the parchment and place it in the bottle, along with the stone and a small amount of sand. Release the bottle into the water and watch as the waves carry the wish away, while saying this charm:

Goddess of the Moon, the Earth, the Sea,
Each wish in Thy name must come to be.
Powers and Forces which Tides do make,
Now summon Thy waves, my spell to take.

Sit on the beach and gaze at the beautiful sea until the candle burns itself out.

*Most beaches do not allow litter of any kind in the ocean, so you may be inclined to either bury the bottle in the sand where the water will wash over it, or fill the bottle with seawater and take it home with you, storing it with your other magical supplies.

A Spell for Cat Lovers

A Spell for Cat Lovers

Those who see a black cat crossing their path as a sign of good luck coming their way, should find that this spell works well for them.

You will need:
Two teaspoons of carrier oil
Three drops of sandalwood essential oil
A mixing bottle
A picture or an ornament of a black cat
Citrine or amber crystals
One white altar candle
One blue taper candle
A boline

Put the carrier oil in the mixing bottle and add the sandalwood oil. With your hands in prayer position, roll the bottle between the palms, visualizing good luck mixing into the blend. When you think the oil is fully charged with good fortune, put the bottle on your altar and spend a minute or two breathing deeply in and out.

As you inhale, see white light enter your body and enshroud all negative energy. When you exhale, see this energy leave your body. When you feel fully relaxed, light the white candle and, focusing on its flame, see yourself as you will be when good luck comes to you.

Now,inscribe your birth number at the top of the blue candle before putting the candle back in its holder and rubbing some of the charged oil on the palms of your hands. See the energy you charged it with warming them, then take the blue candle, holding it horizontally in front of you, anoint it with the oil, drawing the oil from the centre towards you then turning it round and continuing in the same way.

Focusing on making your wishes come true, hold the candle in the air above the image of the black cat, rolling the candle backwards and forwards between the palms of your hands. As you do so, repeat:

Candle’s power and lucky cat,
Please change my luck, so that
I achieve my heart’s desire,
Powered by this magic fire.
And let it be done, that it harm no one.

Allow the candle to burn down or, if you have to, extinguish it with a candle snuffer or between finger and thumb. Clean your hands with the tissue and close your ritual in the way you usually do.

A Spell to Cast When You Feel Threatened

A Spell to Cast When You Feel Threatened

We all go through times when we feel that we are under threat, perhaps at work when schedules are tight and tempers are about to snap. Or maybe in the home when tensions are making themselves felt, creating a chill in the air. This spell, which calls for excellent visualization skills, protects you by forming a crystal shell around you, protecting you from the bad vibrations of ill temper.

You will need:
A clear crystal of quartz or any favourite one that is full of clear light

Place the crystal on a table where it will catch the sunshine. Sit at the table and breathe in deeply through the nose. Hold the breath for a moment or two before exhaling through the mouth. Repeat this several times, absorbing the light cast by the crystal as you inhale and exhaling any negative feelings, doubts and darkness.

After a minute or two, stand and begin visualizing a ring of crystal rising around you, from your feet upwards, getting higher and higher with each breath you take. When the crystal ring is above head height, see it close over you, forming any shape in which you feel comfortable to be enclosed – a pyramid perhaps, or maybe a dome.

Still breathing deeply, feel the crystal form a floor beneath your feet. Stretch your arms and feel your fingers touch the sides. Look upwards and see the dome or pyramid point. If you can, see yourself from outside the protective crystal in which you have surrounded yourself.

Now say:
Within this crystal, I am safe from negative thought,
And will be so, whenever I return to it.
And let it be done, that it harm no one.

When you feel it is right to do so, return to normal breathing and see the crystal open to allow you to step outside it, safe in the knowledge that you can return to it whenever you need to.

Those who have used this spell find that keeping a crystal in the house, office, or wherever else they think they may need protection from negativity strengthens the spell’s potency.

Lady A’s Spell of the Day – Norse Spell to Ward off Night time Evil Spirits

Wiccan

Norse Spell to Ward Off Night time Evil Spirits

Ingredients:
Sea Salt
Spring water

This Norse spell is one of the simplest and most effective spells for warding off any negative night energy. It is quite effective for banishing night mares.

Many children and even adults are afraid of the dark. It’s spooky! Night is the traditional time when spirits and demons rule. During the Middle Ages people never went out after dark for fear of catching their death.

To ward off evil spirits or bad dreams, place a bowl of fresh spring water on the bed stand. Slowly add a pinch of sea salt and say,

“Evil spirits touch not me nor mine. Thy power I drain into this brine.”

You must use three pinches of salt in total and repeat the verse as you add each pinch. In the morning empty the bowl down the sink or toilet. Repeat as often as necessary.

Lady A’s Spell of the Day – The Gift

elfe et son dragon

The Gift

This lovely ritual. It is a spell that is intended to open us to the abundance of the universe, not for a specific requirement. The gift may manifest as a physical object, an opportunity, a realization, connection, etc.

You will need a cord of appropriate colour, at least 1 metre (3 feet) long, depending where on the body it is to be worn: wrist, ankle, waist. Centre yourself and draw up energy. You may visualize this growing as a golden light in your solar plexus. Consecrate the cord by the power of the four elements. You will need to make nine knots, starting in the centre and alternating each side. As you are doing this visualize yourself receiving a gift, chanting ‘The gift I desire is mine’ nine times and ending ‘As I wish, so will it be’. Charge with energy and tie on to your body. On each of the following nine days take off the cord and open one of the knots, keeping the centre knot until last. Keep the cord tied to your body and on the last day release the centre knot. As this knot is undone, release the spell by saying ‘By the power of Air I release this spell’ and blow on the cord. Then ‘As I will, so will it be.’ Bury the cord where it can rot naturally and return to the earth. Watch out for your gift. It might not be what you expect and it might tell you something about yourself.

Sunday and the Perfect Corresponding Spell

Sunday and the Perfect Corresponding Spell

Finally, it’s Sunday, the official day of rest. Not only do Christians acknowledge this day, but I’m sure many Pagans appreciate this day, as well. Everyone needs rest and lot of people need a good day to worship their creator (whomever or whatever that may be), however they deem fit to do so. With the Sun being the central theme of many ancient rituals, Sunday just seems to fit, in name and theory. Not only is it a good day to worship, it seems good to do more relaxed spells, such as, sleep, dream and rebirth.

An Evaluation/Promotion Tarot Spell

Got an evaluation coming up at work? There is nothing worse than having to go over a review form. You know you deserve a good raise, but how much will your manager or the company be willing to dole out? Or are you trying for a promotion? Sounds like it’s time to hedge your bets, so to speak. Try your hand at this tarot spell.

Gather the following:

• A carnelian tumbled stone for success and to boost your career or a quartz crystal point for extra power

• i yellow or gold candle (white will do in a pinch-it’s an all-purpose color)

• Our three featured tarot cards: the Ace of Wands, the Sun, and the Chariot

• An item in sympathy with the spell that you are casting

You can also add the health, wealth, and success philter to this spell if you wish. Just anoint the spell candle with the solar-powered oil you have created.

What exactly is an item of sympathy? It is any item that is sympathetic to what you are working for. Since this is a job-related spell, an item in sympathy could be your recent paycheck stub, ID badge, or your business card. So, with that thought in mind, adding this sympathetic item to your other correspondences only helps to unify the magick. It does this by uniting the energies and giving you something very specific to focus on.

Arrange your items in front of the candle. If you wish, anoint the spell candle with the philter. Now, light the spell candle and focus on the cards and your item of sympathy, pathy, and then repeat the spell below three times. Check out the last line of the spell and adjust this as necessary.

Just like the golden child who rides under the sun

I call for recognition of a job well done

This spell candle illuminates my way

Bringing success and wealth to all my days

Goddess, bless my ambitions, they are fair and true

While this higher career goal/promotion I do now pursue.

Close the spell by saying:

For the good of all, with harm to none

By the sun and stars, this spell is done.

Let the candle burn until it goes out on its own. Keep the carnelian in your pocket or purse, and the cards and your item of sympathy together and on your person for one week, until the following Sunday.
