You might feel you’re making slow progress while issues from the past keep popping up. This is because five planets are retrograde: Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune. Mercury is retrograde until December 15. This is why you’re misplacing items, cancelling appointments and reservations or having car problems. Granted, it’s easier to finish old business. (That’s a bonus.) But, now hear this: This week Mars goes retrograde until Feb. 23; and this will really slow things down! People will feel frustrated and impatient. But it will “reveal” secrets from the past. Of course, past issues are often tricky to think about. For example, if you lend someone $50 and you never see that person again…. it was probably worth it.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

You have a strong desire to travel; however, duties and responsibilities might make this impossible. But hey, you can do something! Basically, you want to experience more of life. You want a change of scenery. You want adventure and stimulation! If you can’t travel, seek out other ways to satisfy this urge. Take a course. Explore a new hobby. Study something new. Be a tourist in your own city. Many of you are also dealing with some kind of a replay with your kids. (“This again?”) The upside is that perhaps tackling whatever arises again is an opportunity to deal with it in a better manner. Like having a second chance. Encounters or news about old flames are also likely. Some might rekindle an old romance. Others are wearing hats and sunglasses.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Financial issues about shared property, taxes, debt, inheritances and insurance matters can be dealt with and wrapped up quickly. Meanwhile, plans for renovations or changes at home are going slow and meeting with obstacles. An old family drama might be resurrected because some kind of discovery is “revealed.” On the upside, your appreciation for the arts and beauty is heightened. You might be able to travel for pleasure. Some of you might explore a new romance with someone “different.” Whatever happens, keep an eye on your bank accounts and assets because something unusual could catch you off guard.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

It might be tough to accomplish things lately. (Your life is two steps forward and one step backwards.) Meanwhile, close relationships are tense. This might involve parents, bosses or authority figures. Furthermore, ex-partners and ex-spouses might be back on the scene, which is always challenging. (A pleasant euphemism.) The good news is that gifts, goodies and favours from others can come your way! Not only that, romantic intimacy will be rewarding and cozy. Although it’s hard to move forward in many areas, this is an excellent time to ask for loans, mortgages or to remortgage your home. Old business can be wrapped up quickly.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

You might be frustrated this week, because in one way, you’re in work mode. You have a lot on your plate that you want to get done. However, obstacles are stopping you. And finances might be disappointing. Cheques in the mail are late. Moneymaking ideas might not work out or they’re slow. Meanwhile, goofy errors, missed appointments, delayed shipments and equipment breakdowns are also maddening. Fortunately, relations with spouses, partners and close friends are warm and supportive! In fact, you might be introduced to someone who is unusual – a real character. (Courage!)

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Life is a mixed bag for you right now. In one way, with fiery Mars in your sign, you’re proactive, ambitious and energized. But lo! What news from yonder modem breaks? This week Mars will go retrograde in Leo, which will make you feel less motivated. All your actions will feel like they require more effort. (Groan.) You might encounter delays and obstacles and feel frustrated. You’ll have less physical energy. (Whaaat?) Old tensions might resurface with spouses, partners and close friends. This means you have to practice patience. It’s curious because you have strong social ambitions right now but some of them are thwarted. Fortunately, work colleagues are supportive. Bonus!

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Home and family are your main focus because relatives are popping out of the woodwork and parked on your door step. Plus, you have ambitious plans to tackle jobs and repairs you’ve been meaning to get to for a while. Unfortunately, when Mars goes retrograde this week, you might feel like you have an anchor tied to one of your legs. Everything will seem more bother than it’s worth. Well, not everything. You will enjoy fun socializing! That’s why if you can, meet a friend for lunch or dinner. Grab a matinee. See the gang for Happy Hour! However, be patient with partners and spouses because power struggles and annoyances will be hard to avoid. It’s not just the fault others. Your perceptions of them are part of this two-way interaction. Stay chill.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Life has been busier than usual lately. However, at the same time, it’s been tough meeting your deadlines and your To Do list. Short trips and conversations with others, plus reading and studying are things you want to do, but the world seems to be interfering with your plans. You want to see friends and groups but it seems too difficult to make this a reality. One thing is certain: You’re enjoying being at home and making it more beautiful. In fact, you might introduce something unusual or high tech to where you live. Hey, make the effort to invite one person over for a brief visit, because this will make you feel good. Try it! Preferably someone from the past.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

You’re concerned with money, cash flow and earnings right now. However, Mercury retrograde, which is taking place in your Money House, will delay earnings coming to you. Grrr. Cheques in the mail will be late. People will be slow to pay you for some reason. You might have increased costs related to your kids, or with social outings, vacations or the arts. In fact, you might be so busy with your social life that you’re hemorrhaging money. Another area that is problematic is you feel a bit disillusioned with your work. You can’t drum up enough interest to do something to dazzle anyone. “Who cares?” One reprieve: you’re charming and diplomatic right now! Furthermore, you love your daily surroundings. This is a blessing!

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

With the Sun still in your sign, you are blessed with having more charisma, magnetism and energy to deal with everyone. Having said that however, this week, difficulties at home, perhaps with a parent or an authority figure might create challenges for you. On top of this, Mercury retrograde is taking place in Sagittarius, which creates silly errors and delays as well. Missed buses, car problems, misplaced items and mixed-up communications. Quite maddening! Furthermore, travel plans seem to be on hold. (Like, what’s with that?) Ditto for plans related to publishing, the media or anything to do with medicine and the law. Stay calm and carry on. Fortunately, your ability to earn money is still solid. And you’re enjoying buying beautiful things for yourself and loved ones.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Lie low and take it easy this week. Life is a bit of a struggle for many people because Mars is going retrograde. (Actually, Mars will stay retrograde until February next year!) For your sign, this is going to bring up old business related to inheritances, shared property, taxes, debt and insurance matters. Almost certainly, issues related to these areas will slow down. In fact, a secret from the past might be “revealed.” (It was the butler in the library with a candlestick.) This is what’s happening. Therefore, go with the flow. Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

You might find that dealing with parents, bosses and supervisors is a strain this week. (They might them difficult to you; but they might say same thing about you.) Whatever the case, don’t push anything. For one thing, your energy at work is flagging, to say the least. You can’t get excited about what it is you’re supposed to do. By contrast, you’re happy to socialize with friends. Now this – is fun! In fact, for some of you, a friend might become a lover. You’re also happy to entertain at home. Do whatever you can to trick yourself into maintaining the bare minimum at work because you can’t blow that.

About December’s Cold Full Moon

December full moon is commonly known in the Northern Hemisphere as the Full Long Nights Moon. It takes its name from the winter solstice, which has the longest night in the year. The Full Long Nights Moon cuts a soaring trajectory through the wintery skies, in direct opposition to the low-hanging sun. According to Pagan tradition, on years that the Full Moon falls before the winter solstice, it is referred to as the Mourning Moon. For our early Pagan ancestors this was a time of cleansing by stopping bad habits to make one stronger to service the cold winter ahead. The Algonquins called this full moon the Cold Moon, in reference to the cold light it casts upon long winter nights. Strangely enough, in certain other cultures, December’s full moon can actually be associated with warmth.

To the Deborean Clan, the Cold Moon is associated with staying in your cosy home beside a crackling fireplace, surrounded not just by physical warmth, but also the warmth of family and friends. Similarly, the Wishram tribe named December’s full moon the Winter Houses Moon. Given that it coincides with holidays like Yule, Pagans consider this the perfect time to open up your home and provide warmth to those you love, as well as to those who are most vulnerable to the cold of winter.

For those who are more inclined towards solitude, the Full Long Nights Moon provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy your cosy home in peace and quiet. Consider taking lots of restful naps under warm, fluffy comforters, or allowing yourself to lounge in bed in the mornings instead of rising immediately to work. Appropriately, the Native American Zuni tribe called December’s full moon the “Moon Where the Sun Comes Home to Rest”. This full moon is a great time for you to take a long overdue break and recharge, so that you may shine all the brighter when it comes time for you to rise again.

This period of slow restfulness is also very conducive to introspection. When you look inwards and take stock of your life during this time, try to focus on loose ends and the little things that you’ve left hanging throughout the year. As the last full moon that rises before the year draws to a close, the Full Long Nights Moon is a time of endings. Take advantage of this full moon’s energy and bring an end to tasks you’ve been meaning to do, clearing your mind so you can move forward with a clean slate.

As much as the Full Long Nights Moon may be about endings, it is also about beginnings and rebirth. The Sioux Indians’ name for December’s full moon is the “Moon When Deer Shed Their Horns”, thus beginning the process of growing new ones. The Celts, on the other hand, call it the Elder Moon. Elder is fragile and easily damaged, but it’s also full of vitality and recovers very quickly. As the Elder Moon shines upon you, allow yourself to rest and heal from everything that has hurt you over the year, and focus instead on new beginnings and promising areas of growth. This is an excellent time to start planning your New Year’s resolutions and set exciting new goals for the upcoming year.
