Daily Feng Shui Tip for Aug. 8 – “Feng Shui Prosperity Energizer”

I never stray far from the eight/eight Feng Shui prosperity activator. On the eighth day of the eighth month take a gold ink pen and draw an infinity symbol (the number eight on its side) on red paper. You can make this any size you like. On the opposite side of this symbol (also a Feng Shui prosperity energizer) write the amount of money that you would like to see coming in each year. That could include income, inheritances or loans. Dream big and write something even bigger on the back of this talisman. Then place the symbol in the ‘Wealth’ area of your main floor or bedroom and leave it there for 27 or 49 days. After that time you can either keep the symbol in this space or burn it, sending smoke signals of gratitude to the invisible givers of fortune and luck that will be putting all the same on your fortune-filled pathway!

Daily Feng Shui Tip for August 7 – ‘National Lighthouse Day’

On this ‘National Lighthouse Day’ I’m feeling brighter and more illuminated. I love visiting lighthouses, and apparently I’m not alone since recent travel research shows that lighthouses continue to be a hot destination spot. I also love the idea of a beacon guiding sailors back to safe harbor. A friend in times of need, this light would shine a path, no matter how heavy the weather or dark the night. Feng Shui states that this is the same idea behind leaving your outside front entryway light on. This modality believes that fire and light can garner the blessings of the invisible while also activating energetic sources of success-fueled opportunities. Illuminating this intention simply warrants the empowering step of flipping that switch. If you want to light up the night or engage opportunistic energies to fill each day, then simply leave your front light burning for at least three consecutive hours each day or night. When turning on this light it’s important that you think about your intentions and goals. After switching the light off, be sure to let it rest before turning it on again at another time. This brings new meaning to the word ‘lighthouse.’

Feng Shui Tip for Aug. 6 – ‘National Fresh Breath Day’

On ‘National Fresh Breath Day’ I’d like to offer some holistic halitosis remedies that could be the breath of fresh air that you (and everyone around you) could use. I could share the standard ‘brush the back of your tongue’ to scrape bacteria away. Or I could start with the old ‘floss and brush after every meal’ advice. Instead, I’d like to address alternative ways to freshen the breath. If you need to make onion and garlic smells disappear, than sprinkle a teaspoon of kosher salt on the top of a half of a lemon and you’ll smell citrusy fresh. But don’t make that a habit because the citric acid can erode tooth enamel. You can also chew on a clove or eat some anise seeds for two time-tested and refreshing remedies. Then there’s my personal fave for fighting morning breath. At bedtime, let a tiny piece of myrrh dissolve in your mouth. Not only is this an oral antiseptic, it can also keep bacteria at bay and lets you wake up with a ready-to-rock kisser! Finally, eating an apple will kill coffee breath and keep the doctor away at the same time!

Daily Feng Shui Tip of the Day for Aug. 5th

Today is both ‘Friendship Day’ and ‘Sister’s Day.’ Considering that my sister Susan is my best friend while my other best friends are just like sisters to me, I want to mark this occasion with reverence, love and a fast Feng Shui cure to bring all those ladies a lot of good luck! If I’m lucky I’ll be able to find a photo with my sister with my dearest friends that I will display in a beautiful wooden frame. Wood is aligned with the element that activates fortune and luck for ‘Family, Friends and Ancestors.’ Place one or three photos of your sisters in this same area and add a healthy green plant to that space. Place a green candle (green is the color associated with fortune energies) and then write on the side an intention to send blessings to these beauties. Light the candle close to the framed photographs and let it burn all the way down. These smoke signals send your love and luck — that’s some truly deluxe double duties!

Daily Feng Shui Tip for Aug. 4 – ‘National Coast Guard Day’

Of course, on ‘U.S. Coast Guard Day’ my thoughts immediately turn to boats and sailing ships. In Feng Shui boats are often used as symbols of good fortune that can in turn attract even better luck. In fact, symbolism gives great substance to the practice of this modality, especially in a more contemporary context. One excellent good fortune symbol that brings big luck is the sailing ship. Use a small statue of a ship with its hold loaded with faux or fake gold ingots and diamonds. This ship must be positioned as if it is sailing into your home and should bring increased opportunities for income. In fact, this ship triggers one major source of income while also activating additional opportunities from other streams! It’s all in the Feng Shui flow!

Daily Feng Shui Tip for Aug. 3 – ‘National Watermelon Day’

Today’s ‘National Watermelon Day’ honors a summer staple that’s cool and refreshing. But did you know that eating watermelon could do a whole lot more than that? Thought of as one of the most Americana of foodstuffs, watermelons were actually introduced to the Egyptians around 2000 B.C., who would give a mixture of watermelon juice and white wine to anyone believed to be possessed by the devil. In Hawaii a whole watermelon is often rolled out the front door to help ease the spirit of someone recently deceased, and in Africa this fruit is considered a sacred gift to the divine Yoruban goddess Yemaya. Simply said, many global traditions have long recognized the healing and protective properties associated with eating this refreshing snack. Even the scent is said to allow you to lose weight. Now that really is a Happy Watermelon Day!

Daily Feng Shui Tip for August 2 – ‘Pear Blossom’

According to Feng Shui there are auspicious places and optimal times to align flower energies with our own in order to bring a bloom and some growth into our lives. In August the pear blossom acts as a bridge to heaven luck, and it is believed to have a language all its own. In fact, the language of flowers, also called floriography, was often used (especially during the Victorian era) as a means of communications that would allow individuals to express emotions and feelings that might have otherwise gone unspoken. The pear blossom is believed to bring lasting friendship and they’ve been referenced in Eastern poetry as a symbol of hope and longevity. The pear blossom is a flower of the pear tree, long a traditional Chinese symbol of long life and so it’s said that to partake of a pear with this intent in mind will keep you sharp and intact for years to come!

Daily Feng Shui Tip for August 1 – ‘Lammas Cooler’

Everyone else might be dancing in honor of today’s Lughnasad, or the Celtic celebration of the upcoming harvest, but I’ll be making some magically delicious ‘Lammas Cooler’ to keep the heat away and the mystical here to stay. If you’d like to join me in this uplifting libation then you’ll need one half cup each of blueberry puree and freshly squeezed lime juice (approximately a dozen limes), three tablespoons of agave sweetener, two tablespoons of brown sugar, three cups of cold spring water and some fresh mint for garnish. Place the berries and the agave in a blender and blend until smooth. In a mixing bowl stir the puree, lime juice and the sugar together until the sugar dissolves. Divide this mixture among drinking glasses filled with crushed or shaved ice. Stir in the spring water and garnish with fresh mint leaves. Of course, it couldn’t hurt if you’d like to add a little something more potently potable. Either way, the Llamas libation is believed to banish the blues while allowing you to feel lighter, brighter and better about life in general. Now, that’s a wonderful way to start a waning summer month!

It makes sense that during the dog days of summer we would come upon ‘Mutt Day.’ So I thought about all the different dictates involving dogs and the world of Feng Shui. First, this philosophy says the best way to garner the best protection is to place a pair of Fu dogs flanking the formal front entryway to your living space. Fu dogs, or Imperial Guardian Lions, are one of the strongest protection symbols in this pantheon and are believed to bring family wealth and social status while keeping bad luck at bay. Feng Shui also says that if you see a limping dog while embarking on any journey that you should cancel your plans and start out again at some other time. This image of a limping dog portends problems and obstacles along your way, and even could predict accidents, illnesses or injury. Lastly, Feng Shui says that a stray dog can bring good fortune and luck along with it. So the next time some random dog makes their way into your life, you know what to name it right? Why, Lucky, of course!

Daily Feng Shui Tip for July 30 – How To Be Absolutely ‘Irresistible’

Hot, sultry, sensuous and sexy, and I’m not just taking about the weather! If you want to be absolutely irresistible then give this spicy bath a try: Pour two cups boiling water over a cup or bowl holding a pinch of powdered cinnamon, three whole cloves, and a teaspoon each of cardamom seeds and coriander seeds. Let this mix steep before straining and then allow it to cool. Add this blend to a bath filled with warm water and soak up. Let yourself air dry as your romantic apprehensions now flow down the drain. You have now successfully bathed away the beliefs that you are not the single hottest thing around during these hot summer months!

Daily Feng Shui Tip for July 26

Water lilies and sweet pea are the two plants most associated with the month of July. The water lily is akin to the Eastern symbol of the lotus; the most beautiful of flowers that begins its journey heavenward while still being rooted in the earth. Water lilies have a long lore associated with spirituality and religion. The Christian Church sometimes depicts the Archangel Gabriel bringing glad tidings of water lilies to the Virgin Mary. The offering of these flowers signifies fire and water, and this idea of creation/generation has survived through the ages. Complimenting the idea of being rooted in the earth while reaching for the sun is the iconography concerning the sweet pea. This plant strives to teach us all that we can be a socially connected ‘climber’ while still stirring a strong sense of community. This plant also engenders a sense of our own individual and powerful place on the planet. If you ever feel like you’re wandering and you can’t seem to find your place in this world, a few drops of sweet pea flower essence remedy under the tongue a few times a day (for at least a dozen days) will bring you back to balance, and you’ll soon feel rooted again. The essences and energies of both of these plants allow you to reach for the stars while keeping your feet on the ground.

Simply hang a string of small brass bells on the outside of your office door in order to increase job-related opportunities while also alerting you the next time the boss comes calling! This Feng Shui cure promises to ring your professional reputation out to the world so you can reap your just rewards. Remember to hang these bells with nine or 18 inches of red ribbon, string, thread or yarn, and you can be sure that one of those rewards is sure to be the proverbial brass ring!

Daily Feng Shui Tip for July 24 – ‘Cousins Day’

Hip, hip hooray, today is ‘Cousins Day,’ which means that I will be updating photos of all of the cousins and putting them in the Family/Friends/Ancestors area of my main floor, maybe one from this past Christmas reunion that I’ll place in the middle of the left-hand wall space in my son’s room. I want to find a photo of my cousin Andrea, who has been so good to me through all these years, that I will put in the Family/Friends/Ancestors space in my home. Then, once I have all the pictures in place, I will light three green candles and say a prayer of gratitude for the grace and blessings of this beautiful bloodline. I’ll also offer a prayer for health and happiness for my sister’s boys and the children of two brothers. I’ll say a prayer of gratitude for the grace of a wonderful cousin who mothered me when my own passed away. And, finally, I’ll pray that all the cousins might know how truly and deeply loved they truly are!

I think I see a connection between ‘Gorgeous Grandma Day’ and ‘Hot Enough For Ya Day.’ One way to stay young at heart is to install longevity symbols, so why not heat up that promise and attract some wealth, health, love and a natural death that occurs at a ripe old age? That’s exactly what a grouping of five bats symbolizes in Feng Shui. This philosophy also says that five bats is a yang symbol of prosperity, recognition and rewards. In ancient China, bats were an auspicious symbol of abundance. In fact, in Chinese the bat is named ‘pin fook,’ which also means happiness and prosperity. It’s ‘National Junk Food Day!’ But what you should do if you ate peanuts and Crackerjacks at the ballgame without any regard to when or how they came back? According to an ages-old Indian indigestion remedy, you should crush a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds and steep them in a cup of boiled water. Let steep for five minutes and then strain. Drink this tea slowly for quick relief. Chamomile or peppermint tea will also bring fast and soothing relief to a sour stomach, as will chewing on caraway or cardamom seeds. Better breath and a calm, unbloated belly? Give me some of that game!
