One Person’s View Point About the Moonstone

MOONSTONE

SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION: Moonstone is one variation of Orthoclase. It
owes its beautiful silvery to bluish sheen (‘adularescence’ or ‘schil-
ler’) to its composition of extremely thin plates of orthoclase and
albite. The thinner these plates are, the bluer is the sheen. There are
also moonstones consisting mainly of albite. These are less translucent,
but they can occur in a variety of colours: grey, blue, green, brown,
yellow and white. There are also moonstone cat’s-eyes. The chemical
composition is KAlSi3O8 and the hardness is 7. The streak is white.

ENVIRONMENT: The potash feldspars are important rock-forming minerals in
plutonic, volcanic, and metamorphic rocks. Adularia and sanidine are
found usually in volcanic rocks.

OCCURENCE: The main countries of origin are Ceylon, southern India (the
district near Kangayam), Tanzia and Malagasy which, together with Burma,
produces some of the finest stones with a deep blue schiller. White
adularia crystals up to 2.5 cm (1″) across have been found in gold-bear-
ing quartz veins at Bodie, Mono Co., California, and in the silver mines
of the Silver City district, Owhyee Co., Idaho.

GEMSTONE INFORMATION: Moonstone is always cut into cabochons, to display
the cat’s-eye, or schiller.

NAME: Adularia (another name for Moonstone) comes from the locality in
Switzerland, the Adula Mts.

LEGEND and LORE: This stone has always been revered because of its lunar
attraction. It was believed that the shiller in the stone would follow
the cycles of the moon. (Becoming greatest when the moon was full.) In
addition, it has always been considered a “feminine, or Goddess” stone.

MAGICAL PROPERTIES: Meditation with moonstone calls into consciousness
the three-form moon phase goddesses, Diana/Selene/Hecate, the waxing,
Full and waning Moon. These are woman as goddess in her ages and
contradictions, Maiden/Mother/Crone. Cunningham favors this stone for
spells involving love. In addition he has a longish essay on using it
for a “diet” stone.

HEALING: Because of it’s feminine nature, Moonstone has long been
considered a “womans healing stone”. It is used traditionally for
healing/balancing of female organs and hormones.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I use Moonstone at the Transpersonal Point, for
connection to the Goddess and Universal Feminine Energy. This is the
connection to dreams and dreaming, feminine “intuition”, and “cycles”.
There are cycles of time, seasons, the moon, stars, etc. I also use/give
2623

this stone for those clients who are having difficulty being in tune
with the feminine side of their nature.  (Everyone has a masculine and
a feminine side.)

NOTES: In the past, this stone has also been called “Cylon Opal”.

History & Lore

First discovered in Norway, the Sunstone meaning is linked with ancient Norse texts that reference the Vikings using it to navigate the seas. Thanks to tiny particles of Hematite, Sunstone gets its distinctive shimmer from light-reflecting properties, which these famous seafarers used to catch rays of light from the sun — the original form of GPS.

Sunstone has always been collected by the Native Americans living in the Warner Valley of Oregon. According to Native American legend, the Sunstone stone meaning came about from the blood of a powerful warrior wounded by an arrow. The blood from the warrior, which is said to have given Sunstone its red coloration, infused the stone with the warrior’s spirit.

Ancient Greek culture believed that the Sunstone meaning represented the god of the Sun, which lends credence to its name.

Origin & Regionality

Sunstone is found in Canada, India, Norway, Russia, and the United States.

Crystals: What You Need to Know

Are you daunted by all those posts online that say you have to have at least 70 crystals with an intimate understanding of each to be a “good witch”? Posts like those are complete baloney—you could have 100 crystals, 10, or even none, and you would still be a witch. It’s all about where you want to take your craft. Some people don’t want to have to deal with all the charging, grounding, cleansing, and recharging that comes with crystals, so they decide to opt out. Others might love the idea of pretty rocks that are also functional, so they hoard hundreds upon hundreds of the same stone.

The important thing to remember is that you are the only one who can decide what you want to do with your craft; after all, it is yours!

So, you want to bring some crystals into your craft, but you’re lost in the many lists of meanings and just want something simple. Many witches are the same way! Below, we’ll take a look at the correspondences of five of the most “essential” stones for an aspiring crystal witch.

Witch and Wiccan Crystals for Rituals, Grounding, and Power

What is a crystal?

So, what is a crystal exactly? Crystal is a generic term for a variety of geologic formations. Geodes, metals, gems, minerals, and more. They represent the most basic components of our physical lives and are a direct connection to the powerful and infinite Earth.

Sometimes they represent extraterrestrial components in the case of meteorites. They may even derive from natural processes occurring on the Earth, not directly form the Earth itself, as in the case of amber. The word crystals is an umbrella term to refer to all of these things.

Crystals can be translucent or opaque. They come in every colour imaginable. They can be all shapes and sizes. They can be a solid colour or patterned. They can be smooth or rough.

Each crystal is unique in its chemical make-up, density, and appearance. In addition to its chemical and physical attributes, each crystal has an energetic component. As Einstein discovered, matter and energy are interchangeable. Crystals are very sensitive to energy, conducting it and emitting it. We choose to work with one crystal over another based on its energy characteristics, the correspondences of which is described a bit further below.

What do Wiccans use crystals for? (and other traditions of witchcraft)

Wiccan stones and crystals are powerful tools which witches use to enhance their craft. As Wicca is a pagan religion which is heavily Earth-based, crystals are a natural incorporation since they come directly from the Earth. They are a direct connection with nature and they harness the perpetual power of the Earth.

Stones are alive and choose to work with us. They will not be powerful unless you recognize that they are your partner– not just tools which you alone control.

Crystals serve as a container of magickal energies. Energies like thought and intention can be picked up by the crystals and then sent out to the world. They can be used either as a primary tool for your magickal work, or you can use their natural energies to supplement other work you might be doing.

The color of crystals is very important as well. Color is just energy too, just as we require light to see it. Each color has a different correspondence depending on its vibration and resonance. One color can be used to aid in healing work, but another color will be better suited to a love spell.

Since crystals are stores of energy, you should cleanse them thoroughly upon first use and periodically after that. You’ll also want to charge them before using them in any spells. Cleansing and charging are described towards the end of this article.

Here are some example uses of Wiccan stones and crystals in a witch’s practice.

Marking the circle.

Healing. Some crystals have specific healing properties, for instance to heal a particular system or part of the body. However most crystals (and even most stones like those you would find on a riverbed) can also be used for healing.

Jewelry like pendants, earrings, bracelets, and other magickal pieces. The stones can be charged for a specific purpose (protection, healing, etc) then worn to let the energies with which you charged it to surround you. Crystals can be charged and work in your daily activities or for a specific purpose like dealing with a negative person, a job interview, or giving a presentation.

Good luck charms and talismans.

Protection such as wearing crystal amulets.

Scrying which is peering into a crystal’s surface for visions. This works best with crystals that have smooth, reflective surfaces like hematite.

Meditation with the crystal.

Divination work.

Honoring deities.

Decorating magickal tools like wands, chalices, pentacles, etc.

Spellwork and manifesting change.

Astral projection.

Dream work, dream analysis, improving sleep, ending bad dreams, and lucid dreaming.

Changing the energy flow in the home.

Dating back to ancient Egypt, Peridot was a favorite of Cleopatra, who wore the stone for its beauty and to ward off evil spirits. According to legend, the Queen’s emeralds were actually Peridot crystals, which share a similar aesthetic to the highly prized jewel. Known as the poor man’s Emerald because of its less expensive price, the Peridot crystal meaning can be traced back to the volcanic areas of Hawaii on the island of Oahu, where tiny Peridot grains can still be found washed upon the shore. According to ancient folklore, these pieces of Peridot represent the tears of Pele, the goddess of the elements. Created in a fiery pit of lava millions of years ago, the Peridot crystal gets its olive to lime green colors from olivine, a type of mineral made up of iron, silicate, and magnesium.

Created from the intense inferno of volcanoes, Peridot is believed to be a gift from Mother Nature and considered a symbol of the yearly renewal of the planet. The Peridot crystal stone meaning comes from the Arabic “fairat,” the word for gem, and has been cherished for its healing properties since ancient times. Its dazzling sheen and lush color also gave light to the dark ages when it was incorporated into the Shrine of the Three Kings in the Cologne Cathedral in Germany.

Peridot Properties

Channel the Peridot crystal healing properties with a daily meditation session in your sacred space. Borrowing from the Native American tradition used for thousands of years, cleanse your environment and crystals with a smudging ritual using a sage stick. If you’re in need of an emotional facelift, place raw Peridot stones over the heart chakra to clear out toxic emotions and feel your spirit opening up to love, the medicine to heal the world. Peridot also supports the solar plexus chakra and works to clear mental blocks, which is excellent medicine for skeptics of crystal healing because it opens up the mind to infinite possibilities of the universe and its healing powers.

Often called the study stone, Peridot crystal healing properties are also known to increase mental focus by making the mind more receptive to learning new things. Keep Peridot in your workspace or office and always have constant access to its powerful properties that give you the strength to persevere, especially during times of challenging academic pursuits. It was also believed by the Romans to be a wonderful medicine for depression. Hematite Meaning and Healing Properties

You Need Hematite If…

These are all signs that you need a dose of grounding energy, and Hematite is exactly the stone for that. Read on and be sure to check out our selection of Hematite stones, jewelry, and crystals today

An Introduction to Hematite Crystal Healing Properties

If you’re drawn to the Hematite crystal, it could be a sign that you’re in need of grounding and balancing in your life. As soon as the Hematite crystal stone touches the skin, you’ll feel more centered and calm with its intense but subtle vibrations. While all crystals have powerful grounding effects, the Hematite crystal properties are a gem when it comes to clearing and activating the root chakra, the energy center that anchors us to the earth and provides a feeling of stability.

The Hematite crystal healing properties stem from the stone’s high iron content, which gives it a heaviness and a weightiness that gives you the feeling of being anchored to the earth. With the simple act of bringing you back down to earth, Hematite calms a troubled mind and puts your spirit at ease so you can release any feelings of stress, tension, worry, or nervousness. The stabilizing effect of the Hematite crystal stone makes it a trusted companion to keep by your side everywhere you go.

History & Lore

Hematite’s name is derived from the Greek word haima, meaning blood. This stone is known for connecting the body to the Earth. Ancient Greeks associated Hematite with Mars, the god of war. Many warriors, including ancient Greeks, Romans, and Native Americans, used crushed Hematite on their bodies to create a red paint-like appearance thought to keep them safe in battle. Hematite was believed to make a warrior invulnerable and give them courage and strength. During the Patheolithic era, early humans created cave paintings using the red pigment from ground-up Hematite.

Hematite was also used for medicinal purposes in ancient times. In Mesopotamia, Hematite was used to cool the blood. Similarly, in ancient Egypt, Hematite was recommended for treating inflammation because of its iron oxide properties.

Origin & Regionality

Hematite is found  in Brazil, Canada, England, the United States, Venezuela, and many other places.

Hematite Crystal Meaning

The Hematite crystal meaning is linked to its connection to the root chakra, the center of security and survival. By creating a strong sense of energetic stability, this crystal works to align, clear and balance your root chakra so you feel centered and secure. Not only do the Hematite crystal healing properties lend a sense of grounded-ness and stability, but they can also help you to feel energetically protected by guiding you to release any energies that may be destabilizing you.

One of the most powerful ways to connect with and access the Hematite crystal stone meaning is to meditate with the stone. To enhance its energetic impact, hold one Hematite in each hand to balance both sides of the body and ground your entire being. By connecting you to your foundation, the Hematite crystal meaning can guide you to stand your ground in the face of stressful or intense situations. Meditating with this stone can also help you achieve a higher state of being by connecting you with your inner strength and power.

Getting Grounded

If you are undergoing or recently underwent a big life change like moving or changing jobs, you may feel unsettled. The grounding force of the Hematite crystal meaning helps you build a strong foundation so you can move through turbulent times with more grace and ease.

But even if you aren’t experiencing significant life changes, an extra dose of grounding energy can be extremely helpful. Have you been feeling overwhelmed or all over the place? The Hematite crystal stone can remind you to take everything one step at a time so you can stay grounded so you can approach your life from a cool, calm and collected state of being.

Protection

The Hematite crystal meaning is linked with its ability to absorb any toxic emotions holding you back from your natural state of joy and vitality. Using Hematite in your crystal healing first aid kit can clear away negative feelings from stress, anxiety, and worry. The Hematite works to pull any stray negative energy in the aura to the root chakra where it neutralizes its harmful effects by balancing and aligning all seven chakras. This explains why Hematite crystal also has a lesser-known protective energy.

As you move throughout the world, oncoming negative energy from other people or environments can leave you feeling unsettled. By stabilizing your energy and drawing out any unwanted energy that finds its way in, Hematite helps you go through life without the added weight of negativity and protects you from lower vibrational energy.

How to Use Your Hematite Crystal

Getting Grounded

The most powerful way to use the Hematite crystal properties for getting grounded is to create a crystal program for yourself. By wearing Hematite crystal jewelry, carrying the stone, and bringing it into your environment, you can connect with the grounding and stabilizing energy of this stone anytime and anywhere.

WEAR

Wearing the stone in the form of jewelry is a powerful way to connect with the Hematite crystal meaning throughout the day. Your hematite bracelet or hematite anklet can remind you to take a breath and slow down when you feel overwhelmed or unsettled.

Tanzanite: Meanings, Properties and Powers

Contents

Tanzanite Properties

Tanzanite is a calcium aluminium hydroxyl silicate and belongs to the silicate family.

It’s also known as Blue Zoisite. It was Tiffany and Co. that renamed it to Tanzanite as a part of a branding strategy.

It was first discovered in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in 1967.

Deposits of Tanzanite can be found in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania, but there are also deposits found in Kenya.

Due to its rare availability, Tanzanite is commercially produced and reddish-brown minerals are subjected to artificial heat treatments.

Tanzanite exhibits different colors when viewed at different angles, and this makes it a pleochroicstone.

When you look at it in sunlight, Tanzanite will show a blue tone. During later parts of the day, the stone can display purple, yellow, and red hues.

When you look at Tanzanite in candlelight or under the light of an ordinary lightbulb, it will show a nice burgundy color with earthy brownish tones!
