60 Actions You Can Take for the Planet

April 22 (SIDE NOTE: To me every day of the year is Earth day) is Earth Day, a time to appreciate everything the natural world provides for us—from the water that replenishes us, to the food that nourishes us, and the trees that help provide the oxygen we breathe, we celebrate the planet we call home. It’s also a day to encourage more climate-friendly choices and shed light on the pressing environmental challenges we’re facing today.

The 2022 Living Planet Report showed us that climate change and biodiversity loss are the twin emergencies of our time, threatening the well-being of current and future generations. However, we also learned we have the capability to reverse these trends. It’s more important now than ever that we make our planet a priority. In continuation of last year’s Earth Day theme, we ask that everyone “Invest in Our Planet,” once more.

More transformation action is needed, and we can’t do it alone. We need everyone – business, governments, and individuals like you – to help create lasting change. Through collective individual actions, we can invest in our planet’s future by making more sustainable lifestyle choices, urge greater climate action from both our government officials and business leaders, and support organizations that are making a difference.

We know this sounds daunting, so together with WWF’s experts across key areas, we created a guide detailing 60 Actions for the Planet to help you reduce your footprint and embrace more Earth-friendly lifestyle choices. Though we’ve had many Earth Days since its inception in 1970, we only have one Earth. Join us in giving back to our planet this Earth Day and beyond.

Fracking, or Hydraulic Fracturing, has Several Dangers to the Planet

Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, has several dangers to the planet12345:

  • Loss of plant and animal species due to greenhouse gases, toxic air pollutants, water waste, and noise.
  • Environmental impact related to land use, water consumption, air emissions, brine and fracturing fluid leakage, water contamination, and noise pollution.
  • Health risks from water and air pollution.
  • Distracting governments and the energy industry from investing in clean energy.
  • Prolonging reliance on fossil fuels, which are harmful to the planet.
  • Adverse health effects in populations living near hydraulic fracturing sites, including chemical, physical, and psychosocial hazards.

Merry Meet Dear Sisters, Brothers, and Friends, Welcome to WOTC! A Thought for Today

I have been having a problem with fracking for a long time, to me it is a type of rape to Mother Earth. MY cousin sent me an article about a woman in Ohio, USA who built her own home in a very quiet wooded area with a stream that went through her property, all she would her is sounds of nature. Then even without permission because 65% of other in the county she lived in gave permission that was all that was need for them to “trespass” and start fracking for natural gas. She wound up having to give up her piece of paradise because of the noise, lights, smells, and traffic due to them drilling and fracking. Personally, I feel this was a horrible thing that happened to her all because us as humans are using more and more natural gas, fuel for automobiles, and all the other things that are in the ground. It is no wonder between this and climate change we are having more earthquakes everywhere on the planet, tidal waves, and unpredictable weather. Yes, I understand in a way these things need to be done but humans are taking more and more forests and other natural areas needed for wildlife to thrive and domestic farm animals to live. When are we going to reach a level of human population that Mother Earth can no longer sustain any type of life, and she dies?

No I do not want to go back to caveman days but each of us can help by using natural lighting whenever possible in our warm, dry homes, make a plan for where you have to go each day before leaving home and map out the shortest route possible to every place we need to go, use shower heads that turn on and off as we get soaped up and rinse off, quit using a dishwasher half full, wash full loads of clothes, and do not have our home furnaces set to tropical temperatures or air conditioners to artic. These are all things that can also save us money on some of our bills so it’s a win-win thing.
