Saturn in Infrared from Cassini

Explanation: Many details of Saturn appear clearly in infrared light. Bands of clouds show great structure, including long stretching storms. Also quite striking in infrared is the unusual hexagonal cloud pattern surrounding Saturn‘s North Pole. Each side of the dark hexagon spans roughly the width of our Earth. The hexagon‘s existence was not predicted, and its origin and likely stability remains a topic of research. Saturn’s famous rings circle the planet and cast shadows below the equator. The featured image was taken by the robotic Cassini spacecraft in 2014 in several infrared colors. In 2017 September, the Cassini mission was brought to a dramatic conclusion when the spacecraft was directed to dive into ringed giant.

Now and then we have a week when we need to defend ourselves from those who diminish us or wear us down. That week has arrived. Be on guard! Do not get sucked into words that confirm your worst fears about yourself. Don’t beat yourself up for what you can’t or didn’t do. Stay strong. You are doing your best dealing with your life. Aries (March 21-April 19)

This is a tough week for romance, which is why lover’s quarrels might take place. It might also be a challenging week dealing with your kids. Take note: one of the challenges is the fact that this is an accident-prone time for your kids so be extra vigilant to keep them safe. Know where they are and make sure toddlers are free from hazardous situations. Authority figures, parents and people who are older might squelch you or be critical about your style for dealing with sports, creative projects, vacations and social outings – and dealing with your kids. Is there no justice? Fear not, with lucky Jupiter in your sign, you have divine protection.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Tread carefully this week. Without doubt, you will have difficulty dealing with family members, especially parents. They will be critical or block your actions and ideas. (Naturally, this will go over like a lead balloon.) However, your response might be a tad heavy because fiery Mars is in your sign. This makes you much more of a fighter for your own rights than usual. You won’t let anyone take anything away from you; and yes, you will be more irritable and touchy than usual. Gemini (May 21-June 20)

I can’t sugarcoat this. Both the Sun and your ruler Mercury are in the part of your chart that is your “home.” And while they are sitting there this week, they are challenged by Saturn, Mars and Uranus! This means you will feel that rules, regulations and laws block what you want to do. Politics might even challenge you. Meanwhile, something going on behind the scenes will also create obstacles for you, to the extent that around Thursday, you’re in an accident-prone situation. Therefore, pay attention to everything you say and do. Be mindful and aware. Think before you speak or act, for your own benefit – and the benefit of others. Fingers crossed!.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

All of us are facing challenges this week because four different planetary combination will be tough to deal with. In all likelihood, much of the frustration that you will feel this week will pertain to money, cash flow, earnings and anything to do with your possessions and your personal belongings. Be aware of this. For starters, you might want to keep some cash on hand. Most definitely, stay in touch with your bank account and your finances because something might impact or limit you. Guard your possessions against loss, theft or damage. Know what’s going on ahead of time so that you can do some damage control. By Sunday, things are fine and all this is in the past.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

It’s time to adhere to the Boy Scouts motto: Be prepared! Why? Because you are in the firing line of tough planetary aspects this week, and many of them involve Mercury (the planet with domain over daily communications and our daily activities) – and right now, Mercury is in your sign! Oy vey! For starters, because Mercury will be at odds with Mars, you will be touchy, irritable and view many communications as a challenge. The worst scenario is you will feel you have to defend yourself, especially with bosses, parents and authority figures. Later in the week, life will be so fast-paced, it will be frantic. Meanwhile, you might feel isolated, lonely or separated from others. This is definitely the time to send out for dark chocolate. By Sunday, all is well.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This will be a relatively tough week to grapple with because your ruler Mercury is at odds with three different planets on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Meanwhile, Mercury is hiding in your chart, which means you might feel powerless to deal with whatever annoys you. You might feel attacked, but you can’t actually do anything or say anything. Don’t let this upset you or get you down. For starters, it’s temporary, and by Sunday, things return to normal. Furthermore, a lot of what is happening will be your own point of view and your own negative perception. Look for activities and social diversions that please you. Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You are a social sign. Furthermore, you are a people pleaser. You don’t like to rock the boat. Meanwhile, this week promises dissension, difficulties and stressful interactions with others – both friends and groups. (Disputes about shared property or inheritances are likely.) Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Apollo 11 Landing Panorama

Explanation: Have you seen a panorama from another world lately? Assembled from high-resolution scans of the original film frames, this one sweeps across the magnificent desolation of the Apollo 11 landing site on the Moon’s Sea of Tranquility. The images were taken by Neil Armstrong looking out his window of the Eagle Lunar Module shortly after the July 20, 1969 landing. The frame at the far left (AS11-37-5449) is the first picture taken by a person on another world. Toward the south, thruster nozzles can be seen in the foreground on the left, while at the right, the shadow of the Eagle is visible to the west. For scale, the large, shallow crater on the right has a diameter of about 12 meters. Frames taken from the Lunar Module windows about an hour and a half after landing, before walking on the lunar surface, were intended to initially document the landing site in case an early departure was necessary.

Spell for Today – Bind a Backstabber

She spreads damaging gossip about you at work. He steals your ideas and claims they’re his. It’s time to bring out the big guns – magick-wise, that is. This spell ties the backstabber’s hands and prevents him/ her from doing further harm.

INGREDIENTS/ TOOLS:

A small figurine (poppet) made of clay, wax, cloth, wood, or another material

A black marker

Black cord long enough to wrap around the figurine several times

A shovel

A large stone

BEST TIME TO PERFORM THE SPELL:

During the waning moon, preferably on Saturday

Collect the ingredients needed for this spell. If possible, make the figurine (known magickally as a poppet) yourself, but if you aren’t handy you can purchase an ordinary doll (the plainer the better, unless you can find one that resembles the backstabber). Cast a circle around the area where you will cast your spell.

With the marker write the troublemaker’s full name on the poppet. Say aloud: “Figure of [whatever material the poppet is made of], I name you [the backstabber’s name] and command you to cease your attacks on me now. Ancient sanctuary used by Roman soldiers nearly 2,000 years ago found in the Netherlands

One of the most extensive ancient Roman temple complexes in northern Europe, which includes sacrificial altars used by soldiers on a far frontier of the Roman Empire, has been unearthed in the Netherlands.

The first century A.D. site — known as a temple sanctuary — was located near the fork of the Rhine and Waal rivers and a short walk from Roman forts along the Lower German Limes, which was then the northernmost border of the empire. It now lies near the Dutch city of Zevenaar in the eastern Gelderland region, near the border with Germany.

The sanctuary consisted of at least three large temples and many smaller altars dedicated to particular Roman gods and goddesses, and would mainly have been used for sacred vows by Roman soldiers stationed at the nearby forts, project leader Eric Norde, an archaeologist at the Dutch archaeology agency RAAP, told Live Science.

Hundreds of artifacts have been found at the site, including coins and jewelry; while the tips of spears and lances, and the remains of armor and horse harnesses, emphasize its military nature, he said.

The discoveries give a glimpse of the lives of soldiers stationed on the frontiers of the empire, far from the Roman heartlands.

“It’s the best-preserved Roman sanctuary in the Netherlands, and perhaps in a much larger area,” Norde said. “It’s quite extraordinary.”

The central government of the Netherlands and the provincial Gelderland government have contracted RAAP to excavate the site, which was first unearthed during commercial clay extraction works in 2021, according to a statement by the Dutch cultural ministry (opens in new tab). The clay extraction has been stopped for the excavations but is continuing nearby, and so the archaeological site is closed to the public for now.

Spiral Galaxy M74: A Sharper View

Explanation: Beautiful spiral galaxy Messier 74 (also known as NGC 628) lies some 32 million light-years away toward the constellation Pisces. An island universe of about 100 billion stars with two prominent spiral arms, M74 has long been admired by astronomers as a perfect example of a grand-design spiral galaxy. M74’s central region is brought into a stunning, sharp focus in this recently processed image using publicly available data from the James Webb Space Telescope. The colorized combination of image data sets is from two of Webb’s instruments NIRcam and MIRI, operating at near- and mid-infrared wavelengths. It reveals cooler stars and dusty structures in the grand-design spiral galaxy only hinted at in previous space-based views.

Public Service Announcement – Security flaws in a popular GPS tracker are exposing a million vehicle locations

Security vulnerabilities in a popular Chinese-built GPS vehicle tracker can be easily exploited to track and remotely cut the engines of at least a million vehicles around the world, according to new research. Worse, the company that makes the GPS trackers has made no effort to fix them.

Cybersecurity startup BitSight said it found six vulnerabilities in the MV720, a hardwired GPS tracker built by MiCODUS, a Shenzhen-based electronics maker, which claims more than 1.5 million GPS trackers in use today across more than 420,000 customers worldwide, including companies with fleets of vehicles, law enforcement agencies, militaries and national governments. BitSight said in its report that it also found the GPS trackers used by Fortune 50 companies and a nuclear power plant operator.

But the security flaws can be easily and remotely exploited to track any vehicle in real time, access past routes and cut the engines of vehicles in motion.
