Anglo-Saxon and Frisian Rune

Ear

(This is the last rune from this set)

Sound: “ea” as in “dear”
Stands for: Soil of Earth (actually the dust our bodies become after death)
Casting meaning: Ear symbolizes the grave that we will all return to. However the only way that we can die is because there was life to begin with. “Without life, there is no death and without time there is no life.” More generally Ear signifies the unavoidable end of all things.

Ruis

Regret, pride, shame, embarrassment, learning from experience, resolution

Tree: Elder (Sambucus spp.)

Letter: R

Shame isn’t all bad and does not deserve a uniformly awful reputation. Without shame and the fear of being shamed, every human child would be demonically bratty. Shame is a limit that informs us to keep our own ego in check. It is often about considering others. Having shame about one’s own past behavior is motivation to avoid shameful behaviors such as cheating and stealing.

Shame is an emotion that demands confrontation. All too often, people run away from what shames them, attempt to excuse themselves from wrongful or immoral behavior because they’re too cowardly to face what they have done or to admit their responsibility in causing their own misfortunes or the misfortune of others. Ruis indicates a willingness to face one’s own shame and to do with shame what it was meant for, and that is to use shame of the past to build oneself into a better person for the present and future. Ashamed of something you did? How can you make yourself into the type of person who would never even think of doing something like that? Overcome being the type of person who would engage in the shameful behavior and you become the master of it; you won’t have the remotest chance of repeating such a mistake. Did you become embarrassed because you did something you now understand to be greedy? Then learn to balance thriftiness with generosity. Adjust to the circumstance rather than overreacting to it. Are you ashamed about cheating on a boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse? Become a person who would never cheat on your boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse regardless of conditions, which could mean an assortment of outcomes: sticking to a resolution of no cheating and staying together, admitting one’s sexual preferences and going with the flow, changing the person you are with, or being single for a long time.

Because humans tend to remember negative experiences more easily than positive ones, it’s important when you draw Ruis to acknowledge the things you are not ashamed of about yourself. For every bad or shameful thing you’ve done, remember there are a thousand shameful things you avoided. Maybe it is time to appreciate the places you could have gone horribly wrong and did not.

Earth above and Earth below:
The Earth contains and sustains.
In this situation, the Superior Person should not take the initiative; he should follow the initiative of another.
He should seek receptive allies in the southwest; he should break ties with immovable allies in the northeast.

Responsive devotion.
Receptive influence.
Sublime Success if you keep to your course.

SITUATION ANALYSIS:

This is a time for dealing with reality as it is, not as you would have it be.
If you realize that in this situation you are the receptor, not the transmitter of the stimulus, you will find yourself reaching goals that seemed unattainable under your own steam.
If you persist in futile efforts to be the Shaper rather than the Shaped, you will completely miss this unique opportunity.

Brain Fog is a Horrible Thing to Deal With

Thanks to fibromyalgia and my emotional state of mind over the past month plus lingering effects from having covid my mind is not working very well today. I opened WordPress to start posting and could not really understand what I had posted or not posted for both hemispheres’ tomorrow so Give me some time to slowly figure out what I have or have not done, and I will get the regular posts up for both tomorrows at some point today. Thank goodness for Grammarly or this post would look like a very young child wrote it instead of me LOL. This is not an easy thing for me to work with and at times trying to figure out what I am doing not just with posts but something as easy as refilling my water glass can trigger anything from a mundane headache to a migraine.

To make things a little easier on myself the following will be happening with all the regular everyday posts:

The birthday horoscope will be posted on the date it falls on.

The southern hemisphere will have postings for its tomorrow.

The northern hemisphere will be todays out from the current date.

Hopefully this along with a check off sheet will allow me to get information to you better daily. Please excuse any mistakes I might make with getting posts on the dates listed above. Thank you for your patience once again.

Moon Alert

Avoid shopping or big decisions from 10 AM to 5:15 PM EDT today (7 AM to 2:15 PM PDT). After that, the Moon moves from Aries into Taurus.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Tread carefully because for most of this day, the Moon is in your sign, which will always heighten your emotions, especially if you’re feeling trigger-happy. This day begins with intense feelings. You feel that you are right, which might make you oppose bosses, parents and authority figures. Easy does it.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This is a bit of a delicate day because privately, you might have strong reactions to someone, or perhaps the media, about matters related to politics, religion or racial issues. You might disagree with something. Or possibly, this is something that triggers a personal response within you?

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Be careful when talking to others today. You might react to someone because it’s a personal, compulsive feeling that you have. In other words, if you take a moment to think about things, you might not even agree with yourself! Do not be quick to disagree with a friend or a group. Think things through first.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

No doubt, you are at odds with a parent, boss or someone in a position of authority (especially a female) about something today. You might want to ask yourself if this is a deep emotional, knee-jerk reaction? Is it really something you want to do battle about?

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Controversial issues might bring about a response from you today, especially if it’s something in the media or something to do with politics, religion or racial issues. When it comes down to it, this might be your own emotional power struggle? Don’t let anyone manipulate you. Don’t manipulate someone else.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

You have strong opinions when it comes to financial matters related to inheritances, shared property, financial matters and insurance issues. You intend to stand your ground. You will fight anyone who opposes you. Make sure you have your facts right.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Even though you might feel at odds with someone close to you today, keep in mind that the Sun is in your sign now, and today, Mercury moves into your sign as well, which means you have all your diplomatic skills at your disposal. Use your skilful means.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Today some people feel hot under the collar because issues are important to them. You might encounter this with a coworker who either wants to introduce improvements and reforms, or perhaps they’re resisting these improvements? Make sure you know what’s going on.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Parents must be patient with kids today because emotions are running high. When the Moon is in Aries, people are inclined to fight without thinking. Furthermore, because the Moon is at odds with Pluto in the morning, there is tension in the air.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Family disputes might take place this morning, especially with a female family relative. That’s not the ideal way to begin your day or even your week. Do what you can to maintain harmony at home. Keep the peace because family is important to you.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

There’s a strong chance that you will encounter power struggles with someone today about practically anything. Someone might play the victim or use guilt or some kind of subversive technique to get their way. Rise above this. Take the high road.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Money squabbles might take place today, especially this morning. Or perhaps there is a dispute about the ownership of something? Think twice before you speak because it’s easy to give into a sudden urge or impulse that is just a knee-jerk reaction. Maintain your cool.

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actress Amanda Burton (1956) shares your birthday today. You have grace and elegance. You are intelligent, well organized and articulate in a pleasant way. You have a teasing, friendly quality that likes to provoke. This is a powerful year because you will reap the benefits of all your hard work. Expect promotions, awards and leadership opportunities.

A Double Lunar Analemma over Turkey

Image Credit & Copyright: Betul Turksoy

Explanation: An analemma is that figure-8 curve you get when you mark the position of the Sun at the same time each day for one year. But the trick to imaging an analemma of the Moon is to wait bit longer. On average the Moon returns to the same position in the sky about 50 minutes and 29 seconds later each day. So photograph the Moon 50 minutes 29 seconds later on successive days. Over one lunation or lunar month it will trace out an analemma-like curve as the Moon’s actual position wanders due to its tilted and elliptical orbit. Since the featured image was taken over two months, it actually shows a double lunar analemma. Crescent lunar phases too thin and faint to capture around the New moon are missing. The two months the persistent astrophotographer chose were during a good stretch of weather during July and August, and the location was KayseriTurkey

All Signs

This will be a positive week, and people will be cooperative. “Work hard, party hard!” will be a timely theme because, October is the month to hustle. Who knows what awaits us once Mars goes retrograde at the end of the month? (And stays retrograde until Jan. 12th!) Unconsciously, we are attached to the aggressive force of Mars, which creates drive, ambitious energy and sexual desire. Mars wants victory and conquest. However, every two years, Mars goes retrograde for 12 weeks, which makes well-intended plans fizzle right before our eyes. Plus, plans we initiate when Mars is retrograde, tend to be dubious. “Dubious?” “Yes, dubious.” “Do you mean dubitable or moot?” “Don’t quibble, Sibyl.”

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This week is about conversations and cooperation, which you will handle with grace, charm and patience. This is because the Sun, Mercury and fair Venus are all opposite your sign, which draws your attention to partners, close friends and members of the public. It’s time to interact. And part of this interaction involves your ability to listen to what others have to say. Fortunately, Venus will grease the wheels of all your conversations, personal intimate and “everyday casual”. You might even find ways to make peace with your enemies and resolve legal confrontations. Even though Venus and Mercury will soften your conversations, with your ruler fiery Mars in your House of Communications, you’ll mean business! Go gently.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This is a positive week, and you find it easy to work. Mars is in your Money House for the rest of the year, which heightens your desire to work and earn money. (Actually, it makes your ego identify with what you own. If you own a lot, you feel that you are “worth” more as a person.) But of course, you are not your bank account. Nevertheless, this is why you have a driving energy this month to boost your earnings. Meanwhile, the Sun, Mercury and Venus are in your House of Employment, urging you to work hard for a sense of satisfaction and personal reward. You want to accomplish as much as possible and you want to do it with style. Fortunately, people are cooperating! A happy week!

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

This is a happy, playful week! With Mars in your sign, you have high energy. You will enjoy physical activities, athletics and competitive interactions with others because you’re pumped! Meanwhile, three planets are in the part of your chart that encourages exploring your creative potential. You want to have fun. Therefore, get out and socialize! Take a vacation. Enjoy the arts, the entertainment world. Meet a friend for lunch. Drop in for Happy Hour and catch up on the latest. Sports events and fun activities with children will appeal. See a movie, a musical performance, or enjoy the theatre. Hikes, picnics and barbecues will appeal if weather cooperates. You want fun times!

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Your primary focus right now is on home and family. Some of you are more involved with a parent or an older family member. Family discussions are taking place, while personally, you’re rolling up your sleeves and taking part in home repairs and DIY projects. In particular, because you want to make your home more attractive, you are interested in redecorating projects and renovations. Some of you are also involved in real-estate speculation or a residential move. Whatever is happening, you want to do this right because at heart, you are a nester. Your home is your refuge. It’s where you retreat to in order to rejuvenate and find the strength to deal with the world “out there.”

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

This continues to be a busy, fast-paced time! Many of you are writing and reading more than usual. You’re talking to siblings, relatives and daily contacts because you have something to say. This is an excellent time to learn anything new by taking a course or attending school. Don’t settle down and relax. That’s not what’s happening. Enjoy your busy pace and get involved! Grab every chance to have fun and socialize because you need to interact with others. Enjoy the beauty of your everyday surroundings and appreciate your good fortune. Short trips will delight. Take a quick trip to the country or through a park because your appreciation of beauty is heightened.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Report card time: How well are you handling what you own? Do your possessions make your life easier or are they a drag? Ideally, they should work for you. If you’re proud of what you own, why not entertain others to share your good fortune? Now is the time to establish greater control of your life through your wealth and your values. This is why you’re spending money and constantly checking your finances. Venus of course, wants you to buy beautiful things – lovely clothes, jewelry and art objects. Fortunately, Venus also attracts money to you. Work hard to earn money: take care of what you own. Do this while your ambition is strong.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You shine this week because the Sun, Mercury and your ruler, fair Venus are all in Libra. This means you’ll run the meeting with tact and charm. You have a strong need to express yourself, and Mercury and Venus will help you do this. Mercury makes your mind busy and active (jumping rapidly from topic to topic). Nevertheless, you won’t miss a thing! Venus encourages good times with others, and attracts social situations to you. (This is an excellent week to buy wardrobe treasures.) Meanwhile, your ability to influence others is marvelous because Mars makes your ideas about politics, religion and all things philosophical dazzle! It also makes you want to travel and explore!

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

You are the only sign that has the Sun, Mercury and Venus “hiding” in your chart right now. This means you can’t fully tap in to your strength. (In fact, you don’t really care.) Instead, you want to pull back and mull things over. You want to avoid downtown rush-hour. You want peace and quiet, and a chance to enjoy harmony in your own private way. This is fine. It’s important to recognize that this is a priority for you. Indulge your need for rest, quiet, contemplation and privacy. Go gently if you’re involved in disputes about shared property, money, bills or jointly-held possessions. Your theme song this week is, “I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in.”

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Friendships and interactions with groups and organizations are important to you this week. In fact, you will have a chance to examine the role they play in your life. Maybe you’re attending something or being part of a group out of habit, or a sense of duty, but your heart is not really in it? Think about this. Maybe these are not your people? Having said that, this is an excellent week for team effort. Younger people as well as creative, artistic people might be in your life right now. They might even cause you to rethink some future goals? You love thinking about the future – and why not? That’s where you will spend the rest of your life!

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Once a year, for four weeks, the Sun is at the top of your chart, making you look good to others, especially bosses, parents, teachers and the police. (This happens whether you do something special or not. It’s magic.) Obviously, this will draw attention to anything that done in a slipshod matter. (Yikes! Yes, the limelight is a double-edged sword.) Note; Do not pretend to be something you are not, because the truth will eventually come out. Nevertheless, this is an excellent time to talk to parents and bosses about what you want because circumstances favour you. Very likely, someone wants your advice about redecorating or layout, or how to make something look better. Meanwhile, you might be flirting with your boss. Woot!

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This is a fabulous time for you to learn either through study, courses, schoolwork or travel. Basically, do whatever you can to expand your world and broaden your horizons. Conversations with people from other backgrounds will intrigue you. You might fall in love with someone who is “different” because you will be attracted to people who are unusual or foreign. This is a playful time for you, especially with sports and athletic activities. You’re very enthusiastic now and not afraid to put your own interests first. The only fly in the ointment is you might have conflicts with your kids. Oh well, that goes with the territory. Enjoy your freedom!

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

It’s a strange time for you. Everything to do with home and your private life are at odds and confusing. Residential moves, home repairs, renovations and visiting guests are just some reasons that you feel out of control at home. It’s overwhelming! Cope as best you can, and don’t be a harsh judge of yourself if you feel you’re not in control of your scene. This challenge will last until the spring of next year. (Pick yourself up off the floor.) Meanwhile, this week, you are focused on shared property, shared responsibilities, debt, insurance issues and inheritances. Fortunately, these issues will probably be settled in your favour. Not only that, romantic passion is very affectionate!

Auroras over Northern Canada

Image Credit & Copyright: Kwon, O Chul (TWAN)

Explanation: Gusting solar winds and blasts of charged particles from the Sun resulted in several rewarding nights of auroras back in 2014 December, near the peak of the last 11-year solar cycle. The featured image captured dramatic auroras stretching across a sky near the town of Yellowknife in northern Canada. The auroras were so bright that they not only inspired awe, but were easily visible on an image exposure of only 1.3 seconds. A video taken concurrently shows the dancing sky lights evolving in real time as tourists, many there just to see auroras, respond with cheers. The conical dwellings on the image right are tipis, while far in the background, near the image center, is the constellation of Orion. Auroras may increase again over the next few years as our Sun again approaches solar maximum.
