Dionysia Polis I

Color: Purple
Element: Earth
Altar: Upon a purple cloth lay a chalice of red wine, grapevines, a fawnskin, masks, and the thyrsus of Dionysus.
Offering: A mystery play on some instructive subject should be rehearsed during these five days, and on the fifth day it should be performed for some outside audience, whether invited in or taken elsewhere.
Daily Meal: Wine. Grapes. Goat meat. Figs. Dates. Lentils. Meat or rice wrapped in grapeleaves.

Invocation to Dionysos

IO Dionysos, Lord of the Vine,
We call upon the Womanly One,
child of Zeus and Semele.
We drink from your cup and join
The maenad train, O Lord of Masks
That teach the truth. In your cup we gain
Escape from care and ecstasy in the vine,
Your blessing under which
The sacred and profane became one
And the gods’ wedding party never ends.
Twice-born, we will give thanks,
We’ll tell our stories again and again
Of running with maenads
Of the secrets of the earth
And the heavens, and all that lies between,
Of fate, and time, and how to slip
Beyond their confines into immortality.
We’ll teach your mysteries,
Which teach other mysteries,
To all who will listen.
We’ll testify
To the gift of the Womanly One
Dionysos.

Chant: Io Dionysos Io Dionysos

(Pass around the chalice of wine and then pour the rest out as a libation. All should then go to rehearse the mystery play, performed in his honor.)

Calendar of the Sun for Monday, April 9th

Calendar of the Sun
9 Eostremonath

Hocktide: Day of the Amazon

Color: Red
Element: Fire
Altar: Upon cloth of red put six red candles, a chalice of clear water, crossed swords, a bow and arrows, crossed spears, and a crescent moon.
Offering: On this day all women in the community must wear red and carry upon them some blade, large or small. Upon meeting them, each man must bow to them.
Daily Meal: Red food.

Hocktide Invocation

On this day we honor
The Saxon women who turned away
The attacking Norsemen from the sea
When their menfolk had failed
Or been slaughtered, their bones lying
In graves still fresh and bare.
For when the need arises,
Anyone can find the courage
To face what must be faced
To dare what must be dared
To fly in the eye of the storm
Heedless of life or death.
We honor the spirit in women,
For millennia put down and buried,
But that rises when in need,
And shows its brave spirit.
On this day we do penance
For a thousand years of repression,
For a thousand years beating down
The spirit of the Amazon.
May she burn within you all!

(The women of the community approach the altar and place their blades upon it, and vow to always be strong. Then they take the blades to wear for the rest of the day, and each anoints the next with the clear water.)

The Wicca Book of Days for April 9th – Astringent Achillen

The Wicca Book Of Days for April 9th

Astringent Achillen

One of the plants that is said to be under the rulership of Mars, also this Arien day’s planetary governor, is yarrow, or milfoil. As befits a “martial” herb, it is said to have the power to remove fear, while its Latin name Achillea millefolium, recalls the Greek hero Achilles, who healed his battlefield wounds with yarrow. This explains why its alternative common names include staunchweed, knights’ milfoil, and soldiers’ woundwort. Credited with the ability to fend off evil influences, sticks of yarrow are also traditionally used to form the hexagrams of the I Ching (Chinese Book of Changes).

A Stannch Ally

Plant some yarrow, so that should anyone in your household cuts him or herself, you have instant access to this stemmer of blood. Simply pick and bruise some leaves and then apply them to the wound, pressing down gently until the bleeding has stopped. (Chewing the leaves is also said to ease toothache).

Greetings, dear friends! Happy Monday To You All, My Luvs!

Today’s Thought for Monday, April 9th

The significance of a man is not in what he attains but rather in what he longs to attain.

Today’s Visualization for Monday, April 9th

Seas of Hidden Motivation

There are times when we feel driven by forces that we don’t understand. This visualization helps bring awareness to these unconscious motivations. Imagine that you are a deep-sea diver, plunging into the depths of the sea. Out of the gloom looms the dark form of a ship-wreck. You swim into the wreck through a porthole. In one corner you see the glint of a brass key in the lock of a wooden chest. You turn the key to open the chest. What lies inside? What does this tell you about the impulses that drive you?

THE EARTH TEACHES ME

Witchy Comments & GraphicsTHE EARTH TEACHES ME

Earth teach me quiet,
as the grasses are still with new light.
Earth teach me suffering,
as old stones suffer with memory.
Earth teach me humility,
as blossoms are humble with beginning.
Earth teach me caring,
as mothers nurture their young.
Earth teach me courage,
as the tree that stands alone.
Earth teach me limitation,
as the ant that crawls on the ground.
Earth teach me freedom,
as the eagle that soars in the sky.
Earth teach me acceptance,
as the leaves that die each fall.
Earth teach me renewal,
as the seed that rises in the spring.
Earth teach me to forget myself,
as melted snow forgets its life.
Earth teach me to remember kindness,
as dry fields weep with rain.
