How to Meet a Real Witch

How to Meet a Real Witch

Mar 3, 2011 Charlz dela Cruz

If you are really interested in practicing Witchcraft and would like to meet a real Witch, here are the helpful and tested tips you can do:

If you are interested in the practice of Witchcraft, it could be beneficial for you to have a friend who has long been engaged in the Craft. She can guide you along the magical path and she might eventually even be your best friend. But where can you find a real Witch whom you can trust?

Online Help

Thanks to the advancement of technology, finding a Witch who might even be your neighbor can now easily be done at the comfort of your own home. There are various online sites you can try; and Witchvox is one of the best websites which the author can recommend.

Witchvox.com is an online site with numerous listings of Pagans, Witches, Sorcerers, and all other people engaged in the arts magical. People who are listed therein come from different countries around the world. You can view their profiles; which means that you can know more about them; you can even send them an email via the same site.

Attend Gatherings

A Witch gathering is exactly what the name implies: A special event where Witches gather together. Many Witches do not anymore live in hiding; schedules of events in relation to the Occult Arts are, from time to time, being posted and shared with other people, especially online. Again, Witchvox is an excellent site for this. Usually, a gathering is open to all Witches regardless of what path they follow. Most of the time, even people who are merely interested in the practice of Witchcraft may also attend the said gathering. Hence, it is an excellent opportunity to meet people who share the same Magickal interest and passion as you. Moreover, once you attend a gathering(even just once), you will easily meet so many practitioners already; you can take the opportunity to befriend them and perhaps contact them and schedule for a more personal meeting.

Contact a Coven

There is a good chance that there might be a coven(a group of Witches) in the city where you live. If you can manage to get the contact number of any of its members, you can easily call or text them about your concern. Do not worry, many Witches are very friendly(perhaps even much friendlier than you are).

Ask a Friend

Of all your friends, perhaps even just one of them knows somebody who is honestly deeply engaged in the practice of Witchcraft. If not personally, he might still be able to give you a lead towards someone who is.

Invite a Friend

If there is really no way possible to meet a good and credible Witch and you are very eager to have a Witch-friend with you. You may invite a friend who also shares the same passion as you to your home. Eventually, the two of you may find yourselves already deep into the Craft. You need not to look far; perhaps your best friend is that Witch-soon-to-be you are looking for.

Cast a Spell

Cast a spell that will bring you the Witch that you want to meet. Ask the multiverse for help and guidance. Have faith. It is not so hard; and it works.

Wear a Pentacle

A necklace with a pentacle pendant is usually worn by Witches not only for magical purposes but also for the advantage of being identified as a Witch. If your intuition says so, you may try to approach people who wear the said symbol. You can even wear one for yourself and perhaps that Witch you are looking for will be the one to introduce herself to you.

Be Open

Let the universe take its natural course and just be open to it. Join even just an online group related to Witches. Who knows, that friendly Witch might be the one looking and waiting for you. Be open.

Afterword

There are many ways to meet a Witch just as there are countless of means to meet another person. In your dealings, be careful and know if it is safe to meet a particular person. Moreover, somehow unfortunately, the world is filled with people who claim to be Witches but do not really know what they are talking about. Again, be careful.

Meeting another person who is also deeply engaged in the same calling as you could be beneficial and it can be very fun. However, it is not a requirement to become a Witch; and meeting more, and more practitioners of the Craft will never make you more-of-a-Witch. If you are a Witch, then you are.

Have fun.

Blessed be.

Spellcraft And The Divine

Some modern religions use spellcraft regularly as part of their worship. Neo-Pagan religions such as Wicca, Druidry, Ásatrú, and other established path such as Santeria, Voudoun, and Candomblé all use spellwork as part of their worship process. Spellwork can certainly be done within a religious context, whether the religion is one of those mentioned or not. Within a spell, the inclusion of a deity or a higher power of some kind immediately transforms the spell into a spiritual act. However, the deity you appeal to in a spell should be a deity to whom you have at least introduced yourself, and have obtained their permission to work with them, otherwise you’re not going to get much out of it. Several spells in the “cookbook craft” category toss around invocations to Hecate as the Queen of Witches or invoke Aphrodite to help out in a love spell. These are ancient deities, now often thought relegated to mythology books. You can’t just harness their energies; there has to be more to it than that., If your spell knocks at their door, they’re likely to take a look through the spyhole, not recognize you, and won’t answer. Even ancient deities understand what dangers lie with inviting just anyone into their home. Conversely, why invoke a deity associated with another culture or religion just because a spell in a book tells you to do it? What do you know about them? Who knows what kind of energy you might be inviting into your spell?

If you function within an established faith, your best bet is to appeal to the deity or aspect of the Divine that you already work with. You have an established relationship with this deity. When your spell comes knocking,k the deity will recognize your energy, and your spell will have the added boost of love and energy freely given.

If you involve a spiritual entity such as a deity or an angel in a spell does it become a ritual? Not necessarily. It depends on your goal. Is your goal to achieve nirvana, or to become spiritually balanced within your religious path? Then you’re performing a ritual. Is it to obtain a new cat, or to release anger or stress? Then it’s a spell. When you’re not precisely sure if your goal is spiritual or practical, then it’s probably still a spell.

Today’s Tarot Card for 3/3

Today’s Tarot Card for Everyone:

The Magician

This Tarot Deck: Cat People

General Meaning: Traditionally, the Magus is one who can demonstrate hands-on magic — as in healing, transformative rituals, alchemical transmutations, charging of talismans and the like. A modern Magus is any person who completes the circuit between heaven and Earth, one who seeks to bring forth the divine ‘gold’ within her or himself.

At the birth of Tarot, even a gifted healer who was not an ordained clergyman was considered to be in league with the Devil! For obvious reasons, the line between fooling the eye with sleight of hand, and charging the world with magical will was not clearly differentiated in the early Tarot cards.

Waite’s image of the Magus as the solitary ritualist communing with the spirits of the elements — with its formal arrangement of symbols and postures — is a token of the freedom we have in modern times to declare our spiritual politics without fear of reprisal. The older cards were never so explicit about what the Magus was doing. It’s best to keep your imagination open with this card. Visualize yourself manifesting something unique, guided by evolutionary forces that emerge spontaneously from within your soul.

Finding and Blessing Your Home

Finding and Blessing Your Home

by Bronwynn Forrest Torgerson

Spring is in the air, and the nesting urge has begun. Here is a light-hearted and airy house-finding and house-blessing ritual for people who know in their bones that it’s time to seek out a home of their own. You’ve long outgrown your parents’ nest and passed the nomadic apartment dweller phase. The new you longs for stability and a place to call home. You want your name on a mailbox, invitations to homeowners’ association meetings. You covet a mantel on which to display Grandma Madison’s china or Grandpa Rossman’s musket. You yearn for trees you can get to know over many seasons and neighbors you can count on, and you have your resources all in a row. This springtime ritual can help sharpen the focus and bring your dream house into the land of manifest reality.

Do your mundane homework first. Check the listings and property values, and listen up for real estate agents that are real wizards at cinching a deal and taking your priorities to heart. Then enter the magickal realms…

House-Hunting Ritual

For the house-hunting ritual, you will need:

  • A bird’s nest (Warning: shakest thou not the nests from the trees, but go ye into craft stores instead, where such things await in great bounty!)
  • A hollowed-out and dried egg that you can write on with a fine-point marking pen
  • A gold candle
  • A house representation
  • A piece of parchment paper
  • A small fire laid of straw and twigs

Make a simple altar outdoors, with those things important to your tradition. For your house representation, many possibilities exist. Do you own a Monopoly game? Pluck a green plastic house from the box. Have a Yule decoration shaped like a gingerbread house? That will do fine. You can also simply draw a house outline on the parchment paper, leaving room for your list of specs. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect. Love and the universe will make it so. On the egg, write “My new home.” You can add your name, date and runes or other magickal sigils if you want.

Now comes your shopping list. Be as specific as you can, while keeping a healthy amount of realism in play. Where should the house be, in conjunction to work, school, culture, family, etc? Envision your ideal floor plan, describing it in words. Is there a yard? A garden space? Is the place environmentally friendly? How big is the garage? What would you like to be within strolling distance of? For price range, you might want to give two figures — the first being what you’d prefer to pay, and the second being the most you can go.

When you are done, roll up your parchment paper so that it’s a thin enough scroll to be inserted through the open ends of the hollowed-out egg. Where else would a dream house hatch? Cast the circle in your way, lastly lighting the gold candle and invoke your patron deity, or whomever you feel most likely to help you in this rite. You may wish to call upon the Goddess in her guise as bird goddess, ancient mother of us all, from whom the egg of the world was laid. Other hearthfire keepers might include Juno, Vesta, Brigit or Hestia. Nordic types may turn to Frigga as queen mother of Asgard, or even to good friend Thor, said to gladly bless a new home and to party with the best. A suggested invocation might be:

By the spark within Your breast,
Feel my longing for my nest.
Grant that I, contented, dwell
By sacred words and ancient spell.
So mote it be!

Holding the egg cupped in your hands, and speak aloud your dearest wishes and desires for your home, including the timeframe in which you hope to find it. Kiss the egg gently and lay it in the nest, thanking Deity for making it hatch with its otherworldly, all-knowing magick. Lay the nest atop the twigs and straw you will use to kindle the fire, then light the spark. As the nest, egg, and your vision burn, know that your mental blueprints are rising to the heavens where your Hallowed House Hunter is seeing them clearly and already beginning to discern where your perfect home might be.

Close the circle in your way, but allow the gold candle to burn out. If that is not possible all in one night, pinch it out and relight it for the next several nights until the candle is gone.

Get yourself a cardboard box and pack some unneeded things away. This signals the universe that you are becoming mobile and can take occupancy of your new home as soon as the closing documents are signed.

House-Blessing Ritual

Huzzah! The Old Ones and your banker have coming shining through! You dance a wild jig, sign a million papers and are petrified and exhilarated. You are now a homeowner! For this house-blessing ritual, you will need:

  • A white taper candle
  • Blessing oil (your choice of scent)
  • Sage or incense
  • A crystal dish or clear bowl
  • Bells

The first New Moon after you have keys in hand and have unpacked enough things to live sanely from day to day, invite friends over to bless your new home. Ask each to bring you a coin from the happiest place they have visited recently — so that your home might be blessed with happiness and prosperity — and a bell to ring for mirth and to summon the fey folk forth.

Light the candle, and trace an invoking pentagram at every entrance, asking that truth, benevolence and harmony enter in. You may wish to add an extra wish for great sex, creativity, personal growth and new opportunities, or other heart’s desires. Hand your favorite blessing oil to a special friend, and have him or her bless each reflective surface by drawing the same invoking pentagram in oil and expressing the same wish. Burn some sage or your favorite magickal incense, inviting all unseen creatures of goodly heart and helpful hands to come and dwell herein.

After this is accomplished, guests may deposit their coins one by one into the dish, telling of the happy place in which the coin made its way into their pockets. Never spend these coins, but rather look upon this hoard as treasure of the heart and a certain guarantee that you will never be destitute.

Now those guests who have bells should go merrily ringing and dancing through the place, proclaiming lighthearted wishes for you as they do so: “I wish for your cat to love it here! I wish you incredible sexual romps! May nothing you cook in this kitchen ever burn! May there always be wine in your fridge!” Let unbounded imagination bring forth creative, graphic, heartfelt and humorous wishes. Well-wishers may shout “huzzah!” or “so mote it be!”

Now it is time to sing to the house itself, blessing it with your hopes and praise. What better tune than the 1980s classic rock tune, “Our House,” by Graham Nash? Here are some magickally-modified lyrics, penned by yours truly, to serenade your new home:

Oh my/your house is a very, very, very fine house!
With friends in every chair
And love beyond compare.
Yes my/your house is a very, very, very fine house!

Oh my/your house is a very, very, very fine house!
Prosperity abounds
And hearty laughter sounds.
Oh my/your house is a very, very, very fine house!

Oh my/your house is a very, very, very fine house!
Health, wealth, good fortune too.
All blessings come to you.
For my/hour house is a very, very, very fine house!

This would be the perfect time for a toast, to you, to the God/dess, to your new home, and to many years of happiness together.

The Goddess Companion

The Goddess Companion

The law of the season becomes
the law of religion. According to that law,
the day born of this night is sacred.
for on this day offerings are made
that dedicate all ships to me.
As this day dawns, the storms of winter
lose their strength. The surging waves
grow calm. The sea is a highway once again.
Go through this day with a mind not clouded
by worry over the past or fear of futures
that have not yet come to be.
~The Goddess Isis, speaking in Apuleius’ The Golden Ass

Although Isis was originally an Egyptian Goddess, her worship spread to Rome during imperial times. There she was honored as the Goddess of the sea, Stella Maris, Each year at this time, all the boats that would ply the waters during the summer were blessed in lavish festivals. The Goddess was invoked to keep the sea-farers safe and to bring the goods they sought safely back to port.

We too are sailors, navigating the oceans of our lives, often buffeted by storms and gales. We leave the safe harbour of our homes each day to travel in search of the goods we need to survive. Yet we have no seasonal festivals that bless our voyages. Taking time to ask for the kindness and protection of the Goddess as we move through the day is a small ritual, but one that can sustain us as we travel.

The aquamarine is a semiprecious stone of the beryl variety, making it related to emeralds. Because of its pale blue-green color it has been associated with water since ancient times. Its name is derived from the Latin for “water” and “sea.” Aquamarine beads have been found in ancient Egyptian mummy pits. The Romans were the first to record uses for aquamarine gemstones as a healing agent.

    As a Healing Agent

  1. Because the aquamarine is associated with water, it is believed to have curative powers over those areas of the human body relating to water and cleansing. Thus, the gemstone is used in crystal healing rituals concerning matters of the kidneys and the bladder or dealing with water (or fluid) retention. The crystal is used for its diuretic properties and ability to maintain a proper balance of fluid within the body. As in ancient times, the stone is still considered helpful in dealing with chronic issues, most especially those relating to digestive problems. Drinking water in which an aquamarine has been immersed is believed to help with an acidic stomach. It may also help with ulcers and other inflammation. Modern crystal healers also use aquamarine to deal with glandular disorders and as an aid in maintaining healthy eyes.
  2. Additional Healing Benefits

  3. Because aquamarine is associated with the throat chakra, wearing an aquamarine necklace is believed to cure sore throats or even tonsillitis. Aquamarine can also help with toothaches or aches of the jaw in general. Wearing or gazing into the gem is said to produce a soothing effect. Thus, aquamarines ease mental issues as well as physical. Aquamarine is good for mental stress. It eases depression and grief by gently brightening the aura. It can sharpen the memory and improve mental clarity while heightening your awareness on all levels. While calming the mind, it also stimulates creativity. And drinking aquamarine water is thought to reverse the aging process. Aquamarine is also worn to improve blood circulation.
  4. Magical Uses

  5. Aquamarines are said to possess receptive energy and are ruled by the moon. Their element of influence is, naturally, water. They are said to imbue the wearer with psychic powers and feelings of peace and courage. They are also used for purification. A simple tincture can be made by leaving an aquamarine in a glass of water beneath the full moon. It should sit this way for three hours. Then remove the stone and drink the water both for purification benefits and to heighten psychic awareness. As it has been since ancient times, aquamarine is carried as a protective amulet while sailing or flying over water.

Today’s I Ching Hexagram for Everyone:

24: Returning

Hexagram 24

General Meaning: There is a turning point that recharges you and eventually brings success. This hexagram is associated with a turning back of long nights towards more light, the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, the seasonal change when our hours of daily light begin to increase again. This is the beginning of a turnaround; a time of letting go of the old and making way for the new; a time of new beginnings. Ironically, it all starts with rest.

Don’t move too fast. The new momentum is just beginning; the turn-around demands that your energy be recharged by adequate rest, so that your life force will not be spent prematurely. This principle of hibernation, of allowing energy to renew itself and be strengthened by rest applies to many situations — recuperation after an illness, the slow return of trust after period of estrangement, the careful development of new relationships after a splitting apart of old ones.

Today’s Tarot Card for Everyone:

The Anchoret

This Tarot Deck:  Cagliostro

General Meaning: The challenge of what has traditionally been known as the Hermit card is to be able to recognize a teacher in a humble disguise. This font of mysterious knowledge will not make it easy for the student to acquire his wisdom, as it takes time and long contemplation to fathom what he knows. He often speaks wordlessly, or in ancient and barbaric tongues, communicating with the elements, animals and Nature herself.

While the hourglass was an identifying feature on the earliest Hermit cards, more modern ones have shifted the metaphor, showing more or less light released from his lantern. In either case, the Hermit card reminds us of the value of time away from the hubbub of civic life, to relax the ego in communion with Nature.

Today’s Tarot Card for 2/16

Today’s Tarot Card for Everyone:

The Lovers

This Tarot Deck: African Tarot

General Meaning: Although it has taken on a strictly romantic revision of meaning in some modern decks, traditionally the Lovers card of Tarot reflected the challenges of choosing a partner. At a crossroads, one cannot take both paths. The images on this card in different decks have varied more than most, because we have had so many ways of looking at sex and relationships across cultures and centuries.

Classically, the energy of this card reminded us of the real challenges posed by romantic relationships, with the protagonist often shown in the act of making an either-or choice. To partake of a higher ideal often requires sacrificing the lesser option. The path of pleasure eventually leads to distraction from spiritual growth. The gratification of the personality eventually gives way to a call from spirit as the soul matures.

Modern decks tend to portray the feeling of romantic love with this card, showing Adam and Eve at the gates of Eden when everything was still perfect. This interpretation portrays humanity before the Fall, and can be thought to imply a different sort of choice — the choice of evolution over perfection, or the choice of personal growth through relationship — instead of a fantasy where everything falls into place perfectly and is taken care of without effort.

General Horoscopes for 2/16

General Daily Horoscope

The Moon moves into fiery Leo at 4:14 am EST, encouraging us to express our generosity and demonstrate a more spontaneous type of love that pits individual needs with those of the community. It’s hard to know how much we should get involved as logical Mercury’s anxious semisquare to passionate Pluto adds subjectivity to reason. Meanwhile, we may feel more upbeat now as the Moon forms a harmonious trine to exuberant Jupiter in enthusiastic Aries.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

You think you’re ready for almost anything today, but still may have doubts after you say yes to an intriguing offer. Perhaps your uncertainty stems from your awareness of the consequences of your actions. Or maybe you have been reminded of a past situation when your quick reaction created more trouble than it was worth. Even just a little bit of self-restraint now could be enough to help your day run more smoothly.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

You may need to pay attention to a tricky domestic situation, now that the Moon is visiting your 4th House of Home and Family. Perhaps you have so much happening at work that you aren’t spending enough quality time with your loved ones. Express your feelings to those who are special to you or they may begin to think that they don’t matter that much to you anymore. A little bit of appreciation goes a long way.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

You may have totally unrealistic expectations about your schedule, yet still think that you can make time for your own pleasure today. But it’s easy to set yourself up for failure by wanting too much. Big ideas need to be pared back over the days ahead or you will hit a wall of resistance. It’s better to constrain yourself voluntarily than waiting for unpleasant circumstances to suddenly stop you in your tracks.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

It’s usually easier to show your love with tender care than with grandiose gestures. But today you might do things differently and try to snag someone’s attention by overplaying a drama. Later, you may feel embarrassed, wishing you hadn’t made a scene. Although there’s no need to overstate your feelings now, you don’t have to apologize if you do. Just being yourself is all that is required.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

Avoid the temptation to express yourself in a melodramatic way today, for you could overwhelm someone you love if you say too much. Although things feel urgent now, you would be wise to tone down your intensity. Fortunately, the drama will begin to subside after the Leo Full Moon on Friday, and you may end up wishing you had kept some of your secrets to yourself. Remember, you are not obliged to share all of your fantasies.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You might have an “aha!” moment today about breaking free from an old pattern in your life. The problem is that logical analysis isn’t a substitute for action. Although you may know what to do now, you’re still limited by how you see yourself in relation to others. Be outrageous and imagine possibilities you haven’t yet considered. Believing in magic can make amazing things happen.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

Demonstrating how to have a memorable time is your gift to your friends today. Step into your leadership role and lead by example. This is the smartest way to give others an idea of what they can do. If you practice self-restraint, then that’s what you’ll pass along to everyone else, diluting the shared experience. Seize the moment and your co-workers will happily follow along.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Your need for solitude is very intense now, but you cannot justify a retreat until you first fulfill your obligations. Of course you may feel responsible to honor the promises you made to help others, instead of just taking care of yourself. Fortunately, there’s time to be involved first and then spend time alone later. Don’t hold back; you can have it both ways today.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Although you acknowledge that rules are necessary to maintain order, it’s still easy for you to dream about possibilities far beyond the accepted norm. You may not feel restrained by the same laws that govern your peers. You are so enthused by the potential of the moment that you don’t even think about what’s right and what’s wrong. Luckily, taking a calculated risk is a good idea now; you can always philosophize about it after the fact.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

You are eager to show others how intuitive you are now and might go out of your way just to let them see you in action. Sharing your inner process with those closest to you can be exhilarating, but the interpersonal dynamics will become complicated if you are insecure about your current approach. It’s not time to worry about anyone’s reaction to your quirky behavior. Just trust your hunches today; they won’t steer you wrong.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

You don’t have a lot of patience for those who want your attention so badly today that they put on a performance to get it. You can’t understand why anyone would vie for recognition since you are usually so good at accepting that you’re not the only person in the game. It’s challenging for you to ignore someone’s selfish behavior. Nevertheless, you are better off indulging others now for the sake of group harmony.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

There’s a lot on your plate today, but others might not be aware of your strong commitment to get things done. Naturally, there’s nothing wrong with working extra hard, but don’t let your need for recognition be your only motivation. Still, receiving acknowledgment is very helpful as long as you don’t quit before your tasks are completely finished. Satisfaction from a job well done can be surprisingly sweet.

Pagan Studies  –  Burying Spell

Perform a burying spell and lay to rest an old hurt, a dead  relationship, or an outgrown habit. Choose a symbol that embodies the aspect of your life that you need to let go of— a cigarette for example can represent an obsolete
love affair, out-of-date expectations, or your poor self-image. Hold the symbol in your hands and tell it goodbye.  Wrap it up in paper and string, using an appropriate color—red for anger, hurt, or old passions; black for
banishing and symbolic death; yellow for healing an old wound; purple for spiritual concerns. Find a quiet location and dig a hole. Bury the symbol, cover with earth, and dust your hands off three times, saying:
