2 January 2022 Daily Correspondence Digest for the Southern Hemisphere’s Moon Phase and Planetary Positions

You can use this link to go forward or backward in time for Moon phase information. If you are curious, you can even find out what phase the Moon was in when you or anyone else, you know was on the date the person was born.

From Moongiant.com

Today and tonigh the Moon will be in a Waxing Crescent Phase. A Waxing Crescent is the first Phase after the New Moon and is a great time to see the features of the moon’s surface. During this phase the Moon can be seen in the wester sky after the sun dips below the horizon at sunset. The moon is close to the sun in the sky and mostly dark except for the right edge of the moon which becomes brighter as the days get closer to the next phase which is a First Quarter with a 50% illumination.

Visit the January 2022 Moon Phases Calendar to see all the daily moon phase for this month.

Today’s Waxing Crescent Phase

The Waxing Crescent on January 3 has an illumination of 1%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On January 3 the Moon is 0.85 days old. This refers to how many days it has been since the last New Moon. It takes 29.53 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth and go through the lunar cycle of all 8 Moon phases.

The 8 Lunar Phases

There are 8 lunar phases the Moon goes through in its 29.53 days lunar cycle. The 4 major Moon phases are Full Moon, New Moon, First Quarter and Last Quarter. Between these major phases, there are 4 minor ones: the Waxing Crescent, Waxing Gibbous, Waning Gibbous and Waning Crescent. Here’s When Every Planet Is Retrograde in 2022

Unless you live under a hunk of fallen meteorite, you’ve probably heard about Mercury retrograde, the quarterly mayhem that occurs when the messenger planet passes the Earth, appearing from our vantage point to go backward. For three weeks, we can blame every Internet outage, petty fight and canceled brunch plan on a spinning rock 48 million miles away.

But did you know? Every single planet goes retrograde at some point. With the exception of Venus and Mars, the planets all have retrograde cycles every year.

Grab your calendar: We took the liberty of mapping out all the 2022 retrogrades for you so you can use these planetary power outages as transformational cycles.

What is a retrograde?

A planet could be retrograde—meaning that from the vantage point of Earth, it appears to be spinning backward. What’s really happening? Well, the Earth is completing its orbit around the Sun faster than other planets outside its orbit. Periodically, it will outpace them—and that’s when retrograde mayhem breaks loose.

Much like a speeding car or train passing a slower one, the planet that’s being passed will appear to stop and move backward—which is the apparent retrograde period.

Then, once the Earth completely passes this planet in its orbit, the motion appears normal again, and the planet is said to be “direct” or “prograde” (to use the snappy scientific term). Chances are, you’ve been in a vehicle that felt like it was moving in reverse when it was passed, so you know the feeling!

What about the “shadow” period?

It ain’t over ’til it’s over! Each retrograde cycle has a “shadow period”—the awkward adjustment of the retrograde planet from apparent backward to …

Moon Alert

There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The New Moon is exact in Capricorn at 1:33 PM EST today (10:33 AM PST).

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This is the best day all year to think about your life direction in general. Are you headed where you want to go? It’s also the perfect day to think how you can improve your relationship with parents, bosses and authority figures. Ideas?

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Today’s New Moon is the perfect day to think about what travel you might take this year to enrich your life. In the same vein (but the other arm), what further education will improve your job or enhance your world? Think about this.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

The New Moon occurring at the beginning of the year is the perfect time for you to think about how to get out of debt and organize matters related to inheritances, taxes, debt, shared property and your relationship with the wealth of others.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Today’s New Moon is the perfect opportunity to think how you can improve your closest relationships. After all, there’s always room for improvement. What are a few things you might do?

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Use today’s New Moon to think how you can get better organized. Not only can you get better organized in your day-to-day world; you can get better organized in your approach to how to improve your health. Why not have it all? Why have less?

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

As this year begins, today’s New Moon urges you to think more carefully about the balance you have in your life between work and play. We are more work oriented then people in Europe, for example. But less work oriented then people in Japan. It’s all relative.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Today’s New Moon takes place at the bottom of your chart, which means it’s the best day of the year to think about what you can do to improve your home so that you like it better or that it functions better. And likewise, what can you do to improve your relations with family members? This is an opportunity.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Human beings are gregarious creatures. We need to be seen, and to see others. We also need to talk to each other. We need this stimulation. Today’s New Moon is the perfect opportunity to think about your style of communicating to others. Do you wait for others to speak first? Do you initiate conversations?

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

The New Moon today is a great chance to think about your money scene. What are your earnings? What are your expenditures? How does your financial report card look? Meanwhile, are you taking care what you own? Or do your possessions own you?

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Today the New Moon is in your sign. The next New Moon in your sign will be December 23. These are two of the best days of the year to take a realistic look in the mirror and ask yourself what you can do to improve the image you offer to your world.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This is the perfect day for some quiet time if you can find a chance to give yourself this treat. Meditation, yoga, a walk, or time spent alone will give you a chance to ground yourself and sort out some priorities. (Gotta know what matters.)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

The New Moon today is a perfect time to think about the friends that you have. Do you hang out with quality people? Do your friends have your back? Friendships are important. Studies indicate good friendships can actually promote your health.

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actor Taye Diggs (1971) shares your birthday today. You are hard-working, dedicated person. You are also warm and generous to others. You are particularly caring and generous to loved ones. This year is the last year of a nine-year cycle, which means you will be wrapping up situations and letting go of what is no longer relevant in your life to prepare for new beginnings next year.

JANUARY 2 birthday horoscope predicts you are a very gifted person. Yours is a Capricorn birthday. You have the talents of order and coordination because you need to take charge of things. Mind you, and this is no small matter. This is what puts your life in order. It is important to have goals and to cross those goals met off the list, is not always easy. But you can do it easily.

Someone special in your life will appreciate this trait, Capricorn, when he/she are older, and the financial burden is not so heavy. Be the patient person, as I know you are, with those that do not learn as quickly as you do. Having struggled in the beginning, you know what works and what does not.

January 2 astrology analysis predicts that only Saturn controls you and there is no place for the weak when it comes to honoring. January has Saturn ruling with a strong desire to achieve. This is your time to shine. This year is all brand new. The possibilities are up to you. I hope you are ready for an adventurous ride.

The January 2 horoscope forecasts that you should have connected with the right people by now who can give you the right kind of advice and support that you need to win. If not, start that campaign right away. Stay focused on your abilities, and your capabilities will be endless. The future of person who born on January 1 depends on how intuitive he or she can be.

People with January 2 zodiac sign Capricorn are an attentive and bright personality. Nobody knows that more than the people that are closest to you but it is somewhat tricky when it comes to getting to know the real you. The Capricorn man or woman can be most secretive at times, but your ability to remain silent makes you a good candidate to hold your friend’s confessions. You have a canning ability to deny anyone the privilege of extracting even the smallest of nonverbal clues.

Although you are a force to be reckoned with, Capricorns remain a private people yet. Listen, no one gets anywhere in life without the help of others. The Capricorn birthday astrology asks you to connect with those friends and lovers who too hold the same values and goals. On that note, you need to work on opening up and reveal the person you truly are if you are to develop new and perhaps, lasting business and personal relationships.

With your professional aspirations, career and family ties being just as important to you, at times it may be a bit of a juggling act sometimes to balance them both. If you have a compatible partner, he/she is a fortunate person. The January 2 birthday personality born today is compassionate and good-natured.

You tend to value relationships on a much higher level, so giving is “second nature“ to you. You work all the time why not enjoy the life you work so hard to be able to afford. One word of caution; beware of those that try to lead you astray. Tune into your instincts to help guide you through. The gut never lies. Pay close attention to your money. Matters may become complicated so watch out for those so-called deals.

Capricorns with birthdays on January 2nd, if you want to get pleasure from your retirement, take care of your health today. The obsession with your health could easily fall into the category of a difficult exercise and fitness program. Yes, it is true that there are advantages to holistic health and being fit but do not reject the medical practice as a means of taking care of your physical condition. Practice the rule of thumb: too much of anything is bad for you.

What your birthday says about you is you have to trust someone outside of your immediate circle. People are necessary for the equation. Open up, and you will find more people on your side that you realize with a few exceptions, of course. However, it is your year to succeed, and no one can stop that but you.

You can be your enemy. You will become so great at crossing those things off your list of aspirations; you will need a new list. At the same time, beware of obsessive behavior and use your self-control. Pick up a good self-help book and make the time to read it. You can do this! You are an amazing individual.

All Signs

The elements Air, Water, Fire and Earth are a big part of astrology. For the last 200 years, society has had “Earth” based values. Status and wealth were based on land, real estate, manufacturing and tangible assets. This is a world of top-down management where few have all the wealth. Last year, we began a new 200-year cycle, which will be “Air” based. COVID acted like a slingshot launching these new values into our world: Decentralization of big systems; greater respect for individual rights; universal income; medical care and education for everyone. We will have startling advances in technology. We will continue to relate through monitors, and eventually holograms. Millions will work from home. This is what’s happening. Buy sweat pants now.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This is a lovely, upbeat week and a wonderful introduction to this new year. You are high viz. People notice you more than usual especially bosses, parents, teachers and VIPs. (Incidentally this includes the police.) Your desire to travel will be strong. You’re keen to talk to younger people, especially people from your past because Mercury is slowing down now getting ready to go retrograde on Friday, January 14. This means you’re already hearing from old friends and members of groups to which you belonged. This will be a more spiritual gentle year for you, with the exception of six months in the middle of the year when lucky Jupiter is in your sign. During that time, you’ll be out there flying your colours! “Look Ma, no hands!”

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This is an upbeat week! You want to travel and do anything to expand your world. Grab every opportunity to learn and study. Think big! (Ideally, go to places you have travelled to before because of the influence of the pending Mercury retrograde) The year 2022 will be a very popular year for you. Everyone wants to see your face. Not only will you enjoy the friendship of others, you will be more involved with groups, clubs and organizations. You might even take on a leadership role. It’s an excellent year for you to think of your long-term goals as well as your spiritual values. From August onwards, you will work hard to boost your earnings because you will be spending big! Ka-ching!

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

With fiery Mars opposite your sign this week, you will have to be patient with those who are closest to you because you might be easily annoyed with them. Fortunately, this is a positive, exciting week! You will find that you are focused more than usual on shared property, inheritances, taxes and debt. Things will work out favourably. Money from the past might come to you now. You might renegotiate old business with banks. Meanwhile, this is a fabulous year for you because you look like a winner to everyone! That’s because many of you will get promotions, kudos and acknowledgement for what you do. Success is definitely coming your way and you feel it. At last!

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Oh my! Your focus on partnerships and close friendships is strong right now because ex-partners and old friends are back in your world! This can be a positive thing – or not. It might even create jealousy. (It figures.) Fortunately, you have the ability right now to see your closest relationships with more objectivity, which means you can see the role you play. Meanwhile, this week, you’re busting your buns at work to get stuff done. Bravo! This year, you will explore opportunities in publishing, the media, medicine and the law. Many of you will also travel much more than usual. Bon voyage!

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

This week begins with feelings of inspiration and confidence. You’re up for whatever happens! You’re ready to work hard and play hard. Many of you are thinking of ex-partners more than usual because you’re in contact with them, or they are in your thoughts or your dreams. However, here are some hard facts. This year, Saturn is opposite your sign. (The last time this occurred was in the early 90s.) This can be discouraging because your energies are low. You might feel physically tired. You might feel old (even if you’re young). You might feel joint pain or have to deal with teeth problems. But hang in there! By 2023, you will rebound with joy, energy, and greater wisdom. You will also feel young again! That’s a promise.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This is a lighthearted, playful week, which is the perfect introduction to your new year (which will also be happier and more fun-loving). This week, you feel confident and ready to be yourself, without fear or apology. You will especially enjoy creative projects, sports events and playing with children. Admittedly, increased chaos and activity at home will exist, but you can handle this. Meanwhile, this year, you can improve your closest relationships with friends, spouses and partners. In fact, things are so good with those who are close to you –this is the best year for your sign to get married in over a decade!

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Home and family are your strong focus this week. Many of you will be puttering and redecorating or tweaking your digs. (You like doing this. Better yet, you like telling other people how to do it.) You will also enjoy entertaining anyone in your bubble who can come to your home, perhaps family members? Perhaps a friend? You will be convincing and persuasive now because Mars is in your House of Communications. Meanwhile, this year, you will improve your health and you will improve your job. Count on it. In fact, many of you will travel more in matters related to your work. Children might be an increased responsibility but hey, that goes with the territory.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

This week is a good time for you to think outside of the box and dare to embrace big goals! You will enjoy talking to others because you’re inspired and more confident than usual. You will enjoy the company of daily contacts and also, you will appreciate the beauty of your daily surroundings. (What a blessing!) You’re ready to work hard to boost your earnings. This is a good mindset because this year is actually a playful, fun-loving year for you! Children will be a joy. Vacations will delight. Romance will sizzle! (Be still my beating heart.)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

You have lots of energy as this year begins because fiery Mars is in your sign making you feel pumped, proactive and ready for action! In fact, physical exercise would be an excellent idea because you might need to release some pent-up steam within you. Meanwhile, this week, you’re focused on money, cash flow, earnings and moneymaking ideas. Money that you expect might be delayed. Meanwhile, this year, you will enjoy renovating or expanding or improving your home. Others will change residences to something better. The upshot is that home and family life will bring you greater joy. Some of you will expand your family through birth, adoption or marriage.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This year begins in a strong way for you because the Sun is in your sign, boosting your energy and giving you a chance to recharge your batteries for the coming year! How lucky are you! This is also an excellent week for you to buy wardrobe goodies, especially something that you have had your eye on for a while. It’s a positive time for you because you’ll find it easy to collaborate with others. This is not surprising because this year, you will be more optimistic and upbeat than usual. You will expect better things for yourself and be more hopeful for your future. It’s a good year to take courses or advance your training or study in any way. Relations with siblings will also improve. Sweet!

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This is a great week because you feel inspired, confident and full of goodwill to others. You are motivated to think about your values and hence, your future plans. You might want to relax as much as possible this week, and enjoy lazy but playful times. Nevertheless, a competition or some kind of physical challenge with others, especially with friends and groups, might take place this week. In the bigger picture, many of you are going to get richer this year! Oh yes! This is well timed because you are setting out on a new journey (that actually began last year) of reinventing yourself. This means that increased earnings and wealth this year, as well as next year, will be timely.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

You will be happy this week because things will flow smoothly and you will especially enjoy the company of others. (That’s nice.) You’ll be happy to see friends, and especially happy to play a leadership role in groups, clubs or organizations, whether this is via Zoom or in person. Jupiter is now in your sign for the first time since 2010, and this makes you feel fantastic! You feel more hopeful for the future. You feel more confident in the present. You are entering a new 12-year cycle of growth in your life when you will discover what you really are as an individual. This year you will attract people and resources who will help you. It’s a fortunate time! Lucky you!

January 2022 Horoscopes

January 2022 Horoscopes

We kick off 2022 with a Capricorn new moon, both Venus and Mercury are in retrograde this month, and the sun enters Aquarius on January 19.

By Rachel Lang

Aries (March 21-April 19)

2022 kicks off with a concentration of energy spotlighting your career. It’s time to accept your sacred calling and say yes to new possibilities about how to share your gifts, wisdom, and insight with the world. You’ve got this! You’re a natural leader and were born for this time. Don’t rush the process that’s unfolding before you.

Venus goes retrograde until January 29, sending you on a trip to the past. You’ll be rethinking dreams that didn’t quite manifest and exploring financial decisions you’ve made throughout your life. Think about what was happening eight years ago, as those are some of the same central themes right now. Mercury goes retrograde on January 14, and it’s time to organize yourself by adopting supportive habits in work. Clear off your desk and make space in your life for something new. February is going to be a full month! Take it slow right now.

The North Node moves into Taurus on January 18, kicking off an 18-month cycle of focus on finances. You could discover ways to draw more income or look at your budget and see where to save. Your financial well-being starts with your mindset—give yourself a few good pep talks. Mars in Sagittarius until January 24 is a motivational force.

Relationships have dramatic highs and lows this month with Venus retrograde. Your partner could be more sensitive mid-month. The Cancer full moon on January 17 stirs up a whole spectrum of emotions. Be intentional about self-care and channel your passion into achieving your dreams.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This month takes you on a date with destiny as the North Node enters your sign on January 18. The transiting North Node shows us what to prioritize, and this year, the spotlight is on you. The Capricorn new moon on January 2 helps you see an expanded vision and inspires faith. With these influences stirring passion, drive, and dedication, why not start right now by making self-care a priority and fine-tuning your schedule so you have more time for yourself?

Venus, your ruling planet, is going retrograde until January 29. Venus relates to finances, relationships, and self-worth, and when it’s retrograde, we see some truth we otherwise couldn’t see. It’s a time to revisit past relationships and make peace. As you replay scenes from younger years, you can reach new levels of understanding not to let your past defeat you. You can create your life anew with the dawning of each day.

Awaken your sense of adventure. Broaden your perspective any way you can, through travel, learning, teaching, writing, and more. You could finish and publish your book or commit to a new course of study. You’ll be motivated toward the end of the month when Mars enters Capricorn on January 25.

You’re building on previous success in your professional life, so stay dedicated to what you’ve begun. If you feel a little scattered, find your grounding through experiences in the arts. Tour a museum or gallery, for example. You’re rising to new levels of abundance and success. Allow the process to take whatever time it needs.

Gemini (May 20-June 20)

2022 starts at a steady pace, thanks to Venus and Mercury going retrograde this month. Let’s start with Mercury, your ruling planet. Mercury defies binary thinking. It’s masculine sometimes, feminine others. Sometimes, it’s malefic, and at other times, it’s benefic. It’s a changeable planetary guardian. You’re going to be looking back at the past in ways you didn’t anticipate this month—retrograde cycles pull us back and in. As you explore memories, unpack fears, or reconnect with people from your past, keep Mercury in mind. Can you remain neutral, nonjudging? Can you see from different sides of a situation and learn something new?

With Jupiter shining in Pisces, your imagination knows no bounds. Use it with care because you can imagine the worst-case scenario or the best-case one. After the last two years we’ve had, I understand why you’d have doubts about finances, relationships, or your career. You’ve seen the other shoe drop, and you might be slow to trust in the goodness of the universe. You’re safe to have faith.

The Cancer full moon on January 17 stirs up past financial matters concerning long-term savings and investments. If you have considered refinancing or taking out a loan, this would be a good time to explore options. Rely on your intuition, but realize you might not be as clear from January 12-15.

Build a bridge between your head and heart—you’ll be working with both thoughts and emotions this month. You’re opening your capacity to love and deepening your dedication to your loved ones.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Welcome to the new year! Ease in and take your time. Starting a new chapter is a slow, gradual process, and you’ll want to create space for reflection and introspection with Venus retrograde until January 29.

This retrograde cycle puts your love life in the focus, and you could revisit storylines from past relationships. Let any surprise encounters with ex-lovers remind you of who you were once upon a time. Thank them for playing their part in your story but stay grounded in your present-day life. Nostalgia romanticizes the past, and this year’s astrology is too promising to turn back. Keep moving forward one step at a time. You’re creating new opportunities for love, abundance, and fulfillment.

The new moon on January 2 spotlights partnerships. In your professional life, focus on collaboration. The North Node in Taurus on January 18 emphasizes belonging to a group of like-minded peers, and community is a highlight of the year for you.

Our relationships give us a chance to experience different facets of our personalities. It’s as if our loved ones hold up big mirrors within which we can see our light and shadows. Four planets move through Capricorn—your opposite sign—at various times this month. Be willing to see your part in anything or anyone you attract into your life. Instead of being quick to assign blame when things go wrong, ask, what is this here to teach me? This message is most pertinent after Mercury goes retrograde on January 14.

Leo (July 23-August 22)

Congratulations! You advanced to another year! You’ve studied your limitations and accessed your power to overcome them. Some of the decisions you made were tough—without a clear right or wrong answer. You reached new milestones in your career and learned patience as you took the steps toward them. This month, it’s time to imagine what comes next. You can carve out new pathways to joy, love, and fulfillment. But first, ease out of 2021 in slow motion.

At the new moon on January 2, adopt a new habit to support your wellness goals. Follow a routine, get plenty of rest, and be in nature. These types of movements can form a structure within which you can dream, create, and play.

The North Node enters Taurus on January 18, kicking off an 18-month cycle during which your public life and career occupy much of your mental space. What activities make your life feel alive with purpose? What people do you love to serve? This type of inquiry helps you access inner guidance as you prepare to answer a sacred call this year.

After January 19, the sun moves through Aquarius, shining its beams on your partnerships. Both Venus and Mercury are retrograde this month, giving you the chance to revisit the past in all areas of life. You could have an encounter with someone who played a big role in your life, or you could relive past scenarios in your current relationship for resolution.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

Your creativity reaches an all-time high this month, setting a tone for the whole year. Sing, dance, make art, or anything else that feeds your drive for self-expression. Make it part of your spiritual practice. By doing so, you’ll please your inner child and restore a sense of innocence that may have been squelched throughout adulthood, especially in the last two years. We can thank Jupiter in Pisces for reminding you of what inspires joy. We can also look at Mercury retrograde on January 14 for rekindling a childlike sense of wonder. What will you create this year?

This month shines a spotlight on romantic relationships. Venus goes retrograde until January 29, and you could be more aware of what’s not working in your relationships. Along with that, you could reminisce about past love. In weathering any emotional ups and downs of the retrograde season, you can commit to building a better relationship with yourself and others. Jupiter’s influence suggests it’s a time of magnetic attraction when you can draw in love as if taking a breath of air—with ease. If you are single and want a relationship, be open to the magical process. It won’t be like anything you have seen before.

Professionally, you are building a new platform, and it takes time. Mars enters Capricorn on January 24 as a motivational force to contribute in new ways. Balance this drive to act with health practices that help you stay grounded and present in your body. Prioritize meditation and self-care early in the month as Mercury moves through Aquarius. Your mind will be active with ideas and creative insights; let your body rest in between projects.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

Your ruling planet, Venus, is going retrograde until January 29, and it has you reviewing your life. The start of a new year gives us pause to reflect. You could recall memories that open doorways in your psyche; ones that have been closed for some time. You’re healing the fractured places within yourself and repairing some past relationships. Honor the process and give yourself the space you need.

Moving is a strong possibility for you, especially around the time of the new moon on January 2. If you feel uncomfortable in your space for some reason—too cluttered, not enough room, or outdated furnishings—it’s time to clear and spruce it up. Mercury goes retrograde on January 14, signaling a time to make home repairs and declutter.

On January 19, the sun moves into Aquarius, a fellow air sign, and romance is a definite highlight through the end of the month, which is helpful if you’ve had relationship challenges during Venus retrograde. If you’re single, you might be too busy to think about relationships, but either way, relationships have probably been top of mind.

Mars, the planet of individuation, enters Capricorn on January 25, and you could feel a slight tug of war with your partner or with family members. Perhaps you are weighing the pressures of home and work, trying to get a sense of equilibrium. If conflicts arise, you do not always have to be the one to compromise. Mars helps to establish boundaries as a part of self-care. Lean into Mars for support.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

Listening is one of your superpowers because you’re attuned to what people don’t say as much as what they do. You take it all in, and you’re quite skilled in intuiting fact from fiction. So, you’ll appreciate this month’s astrology because it allows you to understand some of what may not have been clear before. There’s an emphasis on communication and, well, miscommunication—which happens to sharpen your skills.

You have truth and wisdom to share. So, don’t hold back. You step into the role of a teacher in your professional and personal lives. At the same time, be mindful of how you say what you need to say. Mercury goes retrograde on January 14, and we all feel more sensitive to words than usual. Lead with kindness.

Venus is retrograde until January 29, helping you revisit relationships that have grown distant or been severed by conflict. You feel filled with compassion when the Sun, Venus, and Neptune dance together from January 5-10. You could reconnect with people from your past or make amends with someone who once hurt you.

On January 11, when Mars challenges Neptune, be willing to take the high road in a conflict. Those situations will feel less intense after January 17.

Jupiter in Pisces shines favorably on you this year. Set intentions early this month to ride the waves of that positive energy. Write them to be simple, clear, and measurable. Luck is part doing and part receiving. You take action on behalf of what you want. Then, you allow goodness to flow in your life.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

It’s time to rewrite your money story and realize you have the power to change any aspect of it. Here’s an exercise I created years ago—which worked! Thinking of your life as a work of fiction, personify money. What character would money play? Define the relationship between you. Is money a dictator? An unruly child? When we create mythology—a narrative—about aspects of our lives, we can see clues about changing them. Venus is retrograde until January 29, making this a time to review our beliefs about prosperity and abundance.

The sun enters Aquarius on January 19, and it’s time for connecting. Let the Aquarius sun invigorate your social life, but be mindful of how you spend your time. Mars shines in your sign until January 24, and with extra energy, you could overcommit. Keep it all in balance.

Professional goals take on new meaning this month as you look to create more balance in your life. Jupiter shines in Pisces, making this a year of magical thinking. Carve out time and space to explore what it all means. Let your activities this month be a guide for the whole year.

With Venus retrograde until the 29th and Mercury retrograde after the 14th, it’s a time to make peace with the past, practice radical acceptance, and make forgiveness a part of the healing process. While finances are a big retrograde theme, relationships are, too. Be willing to see all aspects of yourself, including the shadows, to come out the other side more whole.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

Unpack the old photos and tapes; nostalgia takes you back to the past this month with Venus and Mercury going retrograde in your sign. These retrograde cycles help you see things about yourself, your relationships, and your childhood you haven’t been ready to before. If you worry you’ll get stuck in the past, think of the analogy of a bow and arrow. The further back you pull the bowstring, the more powerfully that arrow flies to hit its target. This year, you’re aiming for specific goals; revisit the past to shoot forward in February.

The beginning of the month is quite romantic, in that you feel the warm glow of love. Relationships are a theme for the Cancer Full Moon on January 17, but several planets are stacked in your sign, amplifying your need for space. As you set your schedule, keep this in mind. Don’t overdo it!

From January 5-10, the sun, Venus, and Neptune dance together, blending mystical occurrences into your everyday life. Everything will feel more magical and dreamlike. Watch for synchronicities and clues from the universe. Trust that your ancestors are present as guides. It would be a good time for a retreat or other personal development activities. For example, you can discipline yourself to structure a meditation or yoga practice. With Jupiter in Pisces, you’re primed to learn something new, which could be a part of an overall self-improvement plan. What kinds of skills would you like to develop? Are there any new certifications you would like to have? It’s a new year with a clean slate. You can create a life you imagine.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

We enter Aquarius season on January 19 as the sun beams out from your sign. Ease into the new year without pressure. It’s a reflective time, with Venus going retrograde until January 29 and Mercury going retrograde after January 14. As you discover relics from the past, like old photo albums or family videos, you can appreciate how far you’ve come. At the same time, past longings or unfulfilled dreams might come back into your awareness. Experiment with the idea of doing what you might have done. Bring back an aspect of you that longs to be known and seen.

Mercury moves through your sign from January 1-24, an excellent transit for focused work, but Mercury retrograde is more about finishing business than starting it. Consider eliminating the clutter of your life. Imagine this month as a warm-up to 2022, with the real activity happening in February. If you complete lingering unfinished projects this month, you will clear space in your life for new beginnings.

The new moon on January 2 inspires magic. Meditate, journal, relax your mind, and still your body. Ground into this moment and all it has to offer. It is a highly creative time: Uranus, the planet associated with your sign, stations direct on January 18. If you have resisted change, now is the time to release fear and open to possibilities.

You’re rethinking dynamics in relationships and maybe touching base with people from your past. Finances are also a matter of inquiry as they fall under Venus’s domain. Be willing to feel your way through the fog of uncertainty. You’ll have more insights as we move into February.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

Welcome to the first month of a remarkable year in your life! Jupiter transits through your sign like a bright light shining on all you do. However, you may want to lay some groundwork for what’s to come. This month is all about building that platform.

Let’s start with the big astrological news. Venus, the planet of beauty, relationships, and finances, is retrograde until January 29. During this cycle of self-discovery and growth, you could revisit relationships that have drifted apart or make discoveries about friends or family members. Look at how others’ actions mirror back aspects of yourself or how they conjure up dormant memories. In facing your shadow or healing through remembering, you come out more powerful on the other side of the retrograde phase. You’ll be unstoppable next month and beyond!

With Venus moving through Capricorn, you’re quite the social butterfly! Spread your wings and fly without allowing yourself to be troubled by others’ problems. Your friendships are getting a makeover throughout the month. Reconnecting with people from your past could be a way into more heart-centered living, especially if that process involves forgiveness, compassion, and healing.

The full moon on January 17 highlights your love life. If you are in a relationship, you and your partner could enjoy more connection and intimacy as you work through challenges together to build trust. Despite hectic schedules, make time to be present with one another. If you reconnect with a lover from your past, take it slow. In romance, stay grounded, especially at the beginning of the month. Live in the present while accepting the past and stepping consciously into the future.

January 2, 2022 Daily Correspondence Digest for the Northern Hemisphere’s Moon Phase and Planetary Positions

You can use this link to go forward or backward in time for Moon phase information. If you are curious you can even find out what phase the Moon was in when you or anyone else, you know was on the date the person was born.

From Moongiant.com

The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a New Moon phase. During this phase the Moon is too close to the sun in the sky to be visible. The moon rises and sets with the sun and is not present in the night sky. Because of this the night sky is darker and an excellent time to view other celestial objects. Like the Full Moon, a New Moon happens at a very specific time when the sun and moon have the same ecliptic longitude and it can be measured down to the second it occurs.

Visit the January 2022 Moon Phases Calendar to see all the daily moon phase for this month.

Today’s New Moon Phase

The New Moon on January 2 has an illumination of 0%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. Being ruled by the Sun makes Sunday a particularly powerful and energetic day. Perhaps the best type of spellwork to do on Sundays are those that are actually supporting and/or boosting the power of another working.

From LearnReligions.com

Sunday is associated with the colors yellow and gold, which shouldn’t be surprising—it’s the day of the sun. Because of this planetary association, this is a day that’s also connected to solar deities like Helios and Ra. Interestingly, in some Celtic traditions, Brighid’s day is Sunday as well.

When it comes to crystal use, Sunday is related to quartz crystals and diamonds, as well as the yellowish hues of carnelian and amber. For herbs and plants in magical workings, use marigolds, sunflowers, or cinnamon.

What kind of magic is best performed on Sunday? Well, it’s a day that generally has many associations—agriculture, beauty, hope, victory, self-expression, and creativity are all connected to this particular day. Plant or harvest something new (not just material crops, but metaphysical ones as well), create something from nothing and prepare to win at everything.

Quadruple Lunar Halo Over Winter Road

Image Credit & Copyright: Dani Caxete

Explanation: Sometimes falling ice crystals make the atmosphere into a giant lens causing arcs and halos to appear around the Sun or Moon. One Saturday night in 2012 was just such a time near MadridSpain, where a winter sky displayed not only a bright Moon but four rare lunar halos. The brightest object, near the top of the featured image, is the Moon. Light from the Moon refracts through tumbling hexagonal ice crystals into a somewhat rare 22-degree halo seen surrounding the Moon. Elongating the 22-degree arc horizontally is a more rare circumscribed halo caused by column ice crystals. Even more rare, some moonlight refracts through more distant tumbling ice crystals to form a (third) rainbow-like arc 46 degrees from the Moon and appearing here just above a picturesque winter landscape. Furthermore, part of a whole 46-degree circular halo is also visible, so that an extremely rare — especially for the Moon — quadruple halo was captured. Far in the background is a famous winter skyscape that includes Sirius, the belt of Orion, and Betelgeuse — visible between the inner and outer arcs. Halos and arcs typically last for minutes to hours, so if you do see one there should be time to invite family, friends or neighbors to share your unusual lensed vista of the sky.
