Athena

Athena is a warrior/maiden goddess of wisdom, war, crafts, and poetry. In her war aspect, she is known as Pallas Athena. Some of the more familiar symbols for Athena are the javelin, spear, shield, and plumed helmet. She was usually depicted with an owl perched on her shoulder, symbolizing wisdom. There is some debate over Athena’s origins. gins. Traditional mythology says that she sprang full grown and ready to rumble from her father Zeus’s head, while another school of thought believes that she may have been originally a Mycenaean goddess of home and hearth.

Athena was called “bright eyed” and was a patroness of women’s rights and freedom. dom. She also presided over craftsmen, potters, weavers, and spinners. To round things up, Athena was also associated with writing, music, wisdom, justice, and peace. In this aspect, her symbols are the owl and the olive tree. In a Homeric hymn to Athena, she is described as a “glorious goddess, gray-eyed, resourceful, and of implacable heart.” The birthday of Athena was celebrated on March 23. Her sacred city was, of course, Athens.

The Magickal Day of Wednesday

Wednesday is named for Woden himself, although the Romans called it dies Mercurii. This is a day associated with the color purple, the planet Mercury, and the metal quicksilver – which is also called mercury. See a pattern here?

When it comes to deities… yes, Mercury! However, there are a few other gods associated with Wednesday, including Odin and Hermes, Athena, and Lugh. Gemstones like adventurine and agate come in handy as well, as do plants such as aspen trees, lilies, lavender and even ferns.

Business and job-related issues, communication, loss and debt, traveling, and journeys are all tied in to Wednesday. This is a good day to do a working to open up lines of communication – especially if your own actions are preventing you from being an effective speaker or listener. Magickal Applications for Wednesday

To the Romans, this day was called Dies Mercurii, or “Mercury’s day” Mercury was a popular character in the Roman pantheon. A messenger of the gods, he presided over commerce, trade, and anything that required skill or dexterity. The Celts also worshiped Mercury and eventually equated him with the Norse god Odin (some spelling variations on this name include Wotan, Wodin, and Wodan). In Norse mythologies, Odin, like Mercury, is associated with poetry and music. Interestingly enough, both Odin and Mercury were regarded as psychopomps, or the leaders of souls, in their individual mythologies.

Odin, one of the main gods in Norse mythology, was constantly seeking wisdom. He traveled the world in disguise as a one-eyed man with a long gray beard, wearing an old, beat-up hat and carrying a staff or a spear (which brings to my mind images of Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings). In the Old English language, this day of Mercury evolved into Wodnes daeg, “Woden’s day,” or Wednesday.

Wednesday carries all of the planetary and magickal energies and associations of the witty and nimble god Mercury himself. Some of these mercurial traits included good communication skills, cleverness, intelligence, creativity, business sense, writing, artistic talent, trickiness, and thievery. And don’t forget all of those wise and enigmatic qualities associated with the Norse god Odin/Wodin, not to mention the goddess Athena’s contributions of music, the arts, handmade crafts, and writing. Wednesdays afford excellent opportunities for seeking wisdom, changing your circumstances, and improving your skills, be they in trade and commerce, music and art, or in communication and writing.

Wednesday & The Perfect Corresponding Spell

Are you ready to dive into the complex and varied moods and attributes of a Wednesday? If so, give the following spell a go.

Quick as a Flash Spell (for Good Luck)

This good luck spell will require you to locate a Mercury dime. A Mercury, or silver, dime was a dime minted in the year 1940. It does not actually portray the god Mercury on the coin. What it shows is Lady Liberty in a winged cap. However, its hard to find them? Check a coin dealer, or, if you have a family member who collects coins, see if they have one. I called a local coin shop and was told I could pick up a Mercury dime for about a dollar.

Occasionally, if you work retail or operate the cash register, you come across silver dimes. If you look at the side of the coin, the color is silver all the way through. Plus, it makes a different type of “clink” as it hits the change drawer. Happy hunting!

Take yourself, a tablespoon of dill (a Mercury herb used for prosperity and luck), and your Mercury dime, and go to the nearest crossroads early on a Wednesday evening. ning. This can be anyplace where two streets intersect. Also bring the spell below, written ten on a piece of paper. Perhaps you’ll want to do this while you’re out walking the dog or taking a walk around the neighborhood with the kids. You can be subtle with this spell, as it is a quick one. It’s not complicated, and it’s fun! Read the spell below softly, repeating it three times:

The Witches Guide to Monday

In the word Monday, we can see part of the word Moon. In the romance languages such as Italian or Spanish, this day of the week is called Lunes and clearly relates to the word lunar. On Mondays, a variety of magick may be worked. Because Monday centers on the energies of the Moon, things like dreams, feminine energy, health, success in spiritual pursuits, domestic matters, and things of family origin are especially important this day.

Mondays are best for love magick and anything concerning home or family, thus old saying, Mondays child is fair of face, which seems clearly to relate to the themes of love and health.

Angels of Monday are Gabriel, Arcan, Missabu, and Abuzaha. Arcan is known as the king of the angels of air and the “ruler” of Monday. Abuzaha (Abuzohar) serves Monday, and is very responsive to invocations and ritual magick. Missabu is a ministering angel of Arcan.

Check whether the moon is waning or waxing to determine what your spell will be. During waning moons, do spells to rid yourself of obstacles or for wisdom and protection. During waxing moons do magic for increase of any kind or to draw something into your life.

On Mondays, the best hour to work is moonrise. Get this information from your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac.

Why not start a journal and write down at what location the moon rises and sets for a few seasons? This is a great way to teach you to tune in and to become more aware of the moon and the influence that she pulls into our lives. These gods of the moon have plenty to teach, and if you allow their influence to cycle through your life, you’ll receive many blessings. *Gathering bluebells, jasmine, gardenias, or white roses to create a little garden witchery with the flowers that are associated with the moon

*Setting up a lunar Tarot spell today to increase your psychic powers

*Eating a lunar fruit such as a melon to be healthy, serene, and at peace

*Brewing up a cup of chamomile or mint tea and enchanting it for sweet dreams and restful sleep

Smudging: How to do it — how not to do it

I came across a very interesting article from “Shaman’s Drum” which was reprinted for Vision Quest Bookstore. I will attempt to convey the gist of it, along with my views, as a student of the Ways of the Teneh, about it. Smudging is a way of using the smoke from burning herbs as a way to cleanse the body, an object, or a given area of negative influences. I myself use smudging to “cleanse” crystals before using them in jewelry projects I may do, and for protecting my home from some recent “bad vibe”-producing events. (landlord troubles!) I imagine that the skillful use of the proper herbs could help in warding and banishing ceremonies as well, if used properly and with reverence. The three most used plant material for smudging are sage of all types, cedar and sweetgrass.

Sage

There are two major genii and several varieties of each genus of Sage that are used for smudging. Salvia, or the herb sage used for cooking, comes in two major varieties: S. officinalis, commonly known as Garden Sage, and S. apiana, commonly known as White Sage. Salvia varieties have long been acknowledged as healing herbs, reflected in the fact that its genus name comes from the Latin root word salvare, which is the verb “to heal” or “to save.” Artemisia is the genus commonly considered “Sagebrush”, and is more common in the wilds out here in California. There are two major varieties to the Artemisia genus: A. californica or Common Sagebrush, and A. vulgaris or Mugwort. There are many other varieties of both Salvia and Artemisia, and all are effective in smudging. Sage is burned in smudging ceremonies to drive out evil spirits, negative thoughts and feelings, and to keep Gan’n (negative entities) away from areas where ceremonials take place. In the Plains Sweatlodge, the floor of the structure is strewn with sage leaves for the participants to rub on their bodies during the sweat. Sage is also used in keeping sacred objects like pipes or Peyote wands safe from negative influence. In the Sioux nation, the Sacred Pipe is kept in a bundle with sage boughs. I would think special crystals could be so protected this way as well.

Cedar

True cedar is of the Thuja and Libocedrus genii. Some Junipers (Juniperus genus) are also called “cedar”, thus complicating things some. Some Juniper varieties are cleansing herbs, especially J. monosperma, or Desert White Cedar. But for smudging, the best is Western Red Cedar (Thuja occidentalis) and California Incense Cedar (Libocedrus descurrens). Cedar is burnt while praying to the Great Spirit (Usen’, the Source — also known to Plains nations as Wakan Tanka) in meditation, and also to bless a house before moving in as is the tradition in the Northwest and Western Canada. It works both as a purifier and as a way to attract good energy in your direction. It is usually available in herb stores in chipped form, which must be sprinkled over a charcoal in a brazier. I like a piece of charcoaled mesquite for this purpose, rather than the commercial charcoal cake.

Sweetgrass

Very important to the Sioux and Cherokee nations, its botanical name is Hierochloë odorata. In these tribes, the sweetgrass is braided like hair braids. It could be burnt by lighting the end of it, or (more economically) by shaving little bits of it onto charcoal in a brazier. Again, use charcoaled Mesquite (I believe it comes packaged for barbecue use under the brand name “Red Arrow”) to burn it, not pressed charcoal tablets. Sweetgrass is burnt after smudging with sage, to welcome in good influences after the bad had been driven out. Sweetgrass is very rare today, and traditional Plains people have been attempting to protect the last of it. Myself, I believe that Cedar, which is not endangered, can safely be used this way. Also Piñon pine needles (used more frequently by the Southwest Teneh, like the Navajo and Apache as well as the Pueblo people and the Zuni) and Copal (used by the Yaqui and in ancient times by the Azteca and the Maya) have similar effect. The three mentioned here are readily available either through gathering yourself or, in the case of copal resin, from any good herb shop.

Using Smudging

Burn clippings of the herb in a brazier… not a shell as some “new age” shamanic circles do… it is an insult to White Painted Woman (The Goddess) to do this, especially with the abalone shell which is especially sacred to Her. If the herb is bundled in a “wand”, you can also light the end of the wand that isn’t woody and use that. I like the latter way. Direct the smoke with your hands or with a Peyote (feather) wand over the person or thing you wish to smudge. If you can see auras, look for discolored places in the aura and direct the healing smoke towards those places on the patient’s body. For cleansing a house, first offer cedar smoke to the four directions outside the house. Then, take a sage bough and go throughout the inside of the house, making sure the smoke penetrates every nook and cranny of the house. It might help also, if you have a power animal, to visualize your animal doing these things, to also dance your animal, and if you have a power song, to sing that too. Then finally, run through the house with a white candle that is well protected, to “light up” the house. Careful not to burn it down when you do it!!!

Final Thoughts

Smudging should be done with care, with reverence, and in an attitude of LOVE. Show your respect and honor to the plants that Usen’ has given us for our healing, and they will return the favor by keeping us well and free from disease and negative energy. Aloe Vera plants, though not to be burnt, are good for the cleansing angle as well. Keep one or more potted Aloe Veras in the house (modern varieties are too tender to plant in anything but full shade outside) in organic (wood or ceramic, never plastic or metal) pots. To honor the plant when you transplant it, sprinkle the roots with corn meal and smudge it with cedar once it is transplanted. The spirit of Aloe Vera is a good protective spirit, and if you burn yourself, can also be used to heal your skin. Be sure to ask the plant’s permission before cutting part of the leaf off for the healing juice. If you don’t, the protective power of the plant will cease, and you will be left with but an inert houseplant… and perhaps some bad karma to boot.

Monday, Monday…..

Monday is ruled by the moon. Magical work planned for a Monday should involve aspects of the Goddess and any rites to honor her. In Wicca, the phases of the moon are revered as natural symbols of the different phases of womanhood. Spells and rituals invoking change are appropriate for a Monday. The moon rules the tides, so spells involving water are also appropriate for this time. Think of purification and cleansing work that you may need to do. Even consecrating your chalice would be an appropriate work for a Monday. Meditate on the aspects of the Greek maiden huntress, Artemis, twin sister of Apollo, or on her Roman counterpart, Diana of the silver bow. Monday, November 13

The finest planetary conjunction of 2017 takes place in the predawn sky. Venus and Jupiter rise together in the east-southeast some 70 minutes before sunrise and climb 5° high a half-hour later. Venus shines at magnitude –3.9 and appears just 0.3° to the left of magnitude –1.7 Jupiter. Binoculars deliver stunning views of the two set against the growing twilight, while a telescope shows both in a single field. Venus measures 10″ across and appears nearly full while Jupiter spans three times that diameter and lies at the center of an entourage of four bright moons. During the following days, Jupiter will climb higher while Venus sinks closer to the horizon.

Tuesday, November 14

The waning crescent Moon points the way to Mars this morning. Luna rises shortly before 3 a.m. local time and Mars follows about a half-hour later. The Red Planet lies some 8° below the Moon as the two climb together with the background stars of Virgo the Maiden. Of course, the magnitude 1.8 Red Planet stands out in the eastern morning sky all week, rising some three hours before the Sun and climbing nearly 20° high as twilight starts to paint the sky. Unfortunately, the view through a telescope proves disappointing — Mars spans just 4″ and shows no detail.

Wednesday, November 15

Uranus reached opposition and peak visibility less than a month ago, and it remains a tempting target. The outer planet appears in the southeast after darkness falls and climbs highest in the south around 10 p.m. local time. The magnitude 5.7 world lies in southeastern Pisces, 2.7° west of magnitude 4.3 Omicron (ο) Piscium, the brightest star in this part of the constellation. Although Uranus shines brightly enough to glimpse with the naked eye under a dark sky, use binoculars to locate it initially. A telescope reveals the planet’s blue-green disk, which spans 3.7″.

Thursday, November 16

The waning crescent Moon forms a spectacular trio with Venus and Mars this morning. Jupiter stands 3° above Venus while the wafer-thin Moon appears 6° above the giant planet.

Friday, November 17

This morning marks the peak of the annual Leonid meteor shower. Astronomical conditions should be nearly perfect because the Moon remains out of the sky all night. (It reaches its New phase tomorrow morning.) An observer under a clear, dark sky can expect to see up to 10 “shooting stars” per hour. The meteors appear to radiate from a point in the Sickle asterism of Leo the Lion, a region that rises in late evening and climbs high in the southeast before dawn. Prime viewing occurs between approximately 3 a.m. local time and the start of twilight some two hours later.

Saturday, November 18

Look high in the south after darkness falls this week, and you should see autumn’s most conspicuous star group. The Great Square of Pegasus stands out in the evening sky at this time of year, reaching its peak around 8 p.m. local time. These four almost equally bright stars form the body of Pegasus the Winged Horse. The fainter stars that represent the rest of this constellation’s shape trail off to the square’s west.

New Moon occurs at 6:42 a.m. EST. At its New phase, the Moon crosses the sky with the Sun and so remains hidden in our star’s glare.

Sunday, November 19

The days of viewing Saturn in the evening sky are dwindling rapidly. Still, you can find the ringed world nearly 10° high in the southwest an hour after sunset. The planet shines at magnitude 0.5 and lies on the border between Ophiuchus and Sagittarius. (It crosses from the former constellation into the latter one today.) Although the best views of Saturn through a telescope came earlier in this apparition, it never hurts to take a final look. This week, the planet’s disk measures 15″ across while the ring system spans 35″ and tilts 27° to our line of sight.

When I grew up Veteran’s Day would come and go, not really meaning anything to me. You heard words of praise and glory but for me it was never personal. As I got older and both my parents passed on, I got to wondering what was my family really like. Neither parent spoke of their side of the family so that got me curious. Was our family so horrible and terrible, they couldn’t speak of them? I wondered and I wondered.

Several years ago, I decided to stop the wondering and start researching my family tree. I never found out anything bad or horrible about them but yet they never spoke of them. Perhaps they weren’t close, maybe they had a falling out, who knows. But with all my digging, I did find one person who should have been talked about, honored and remembered and he wasn’t. He had died at the age of 24 while fighting in the Korean War. I had seen medals and ribbons growing up and asked about them. I never received an answer. I did a little more digging on this particular family member. He volunteered for the war. He was a fighter pilot and he was shot down. His body was never recovered so he is not home yet and that has been how many years ago. The family did acknowledge his passing, I found my grandmother and grandfather’s graves beside them was Edward, the one killed in war. They had put him up a tombstone but the grave lays empty.

He would have been my uncle. A uncle I never seen nor even knew existed till I did some digging into my family’s history. I wonder if he hadn’t went to war, what would he be like? What would he look like? Did he look like me? I had one uncle who did, believe it or not. I never understood why Edward was never mentioned. He was a war hero apparently with all the medals and ribbons he had. But yet no one talked about him.

At my father’s funeral, the last of his brother’s came to the viewing. I went up to hug him and talk to him. We stood for a very long time. I remember him looking longingly at my father. Then he spoke, “Their all gone now, Kit. Their all gone.” Then he broke down into tears. Perhaps my timing sucked but I asked him to come over and stay for a bit. We went to the back of the funeral home and sit down. I told him I wanted to hear about the family, all daddy’s brothers and sisters. I wanted to hear about one in particular, Edward. He talked about this one and he talked about that one but he never mentioned Edward. I finally asked him about Edward. He looked surprised and said, “Oh, you know about him?” I told him I had done some digging and found out about him. I wanted to know why no one ever mentioned him.

Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned Edward to my uncle but he was my last hope of finding out anything about him. When I mentioned Edward’s name to my uncle, the tears began to flow. He told me that Edward had volunteered for the war against his parents’ wishes. He wanted to be a pilot. They were poor and the only way he could get the training was by signing up for the war. He signed up and had plans on coming home and becoming a regular airline pilot or something in that line of work. He had plans to get married, have a family, and live to a very ripe old age. He was the baby of the family. My uncle told me that after about a year and a half of Edward being gone, a knock came on the door. It was a telegram telling my grandmother that her baby boy had been shot down somewhere over Korea. His body couldn’t be found all they knew was he was missing in action. My grandmother broke down. Her baby was killed but no body to bury, no body to mourn over and have some sort of closure. Nothing, just a telegram.

After about two or three months, they held a memorial service for Edward. They bought an empty casket and placed in the front. His picture was on top of it but no Edward inside. My uncle asked me if I could imagine mourning an empty casket. What was worse was the way he left, against his parents’ wishes, there were words spoken my uncle told me, my grandmother could never take back the words she said to him. She blamed herself for his death. They bought four cemetery plots and buried the casket there. They put up a military headstone for him. But the grief never stopped for my grandmother, she was heart broken. My uncle told me in the evenings, she would sit out on the porch in her rocker and expect Edward to come walking over the hill. She expected him to come home any day. The grief for her never got any better it only got worse. That was the reason Edward was never spoken of because of my grandmother. The things she said to him before he left that she could never take back, the simple telegram telling her of his death, she couldn’t handle it.

My grandmother never accepted Edward’s death. No body, no remains, how cruel could that be to lose your baby boy that way? I understood why he was never mentioned. I can understand my grandmother not accepting his death. It makes it extremely hard for the human mind to conceive the death of a loved one especially when their is no body. She never had closure. I cannot begin to understand the pain she felt. But each and every Veteran’s Day, I take a flag and place it on his empty grave. I stand at that spot and pray that my Grandmother and him are together. I pray that she has said all the things to him she wanted to but didn’t have the opportunity too here on Earth.

I never understood what a military family goes through until I uncovered my uncle. Veteran’s Day now holds an entirely different meaning for me. I understand the loss and the pain. Sending your loved one off to war and never seeing them again. Perhaps if our leaders understood that pain, they wouldn’t be so ready to declare war or send our troops into harm’s ways. But as long as man is on this planet, they never will. We will always have wars and we will always have suffering families. Suffering families whose loved ones paid the ultimate price.

After stopping and thinking about the uncle I lost and never, ever had the opportunity to know and so many like me, I wonder if the price of war is to high. If the price of war is at the cost of a single precious life, I believe it is.

Now the time has come to leave and go to my uncle’s grave. To place a flag on his empty casket and stand and wonder, was it worth it?

Every time a uniform is put on or one is seen in public, we should stop, shake your hand and say Thank You! Not just one day but every day of the year, you sacrifice so much for us. A simple Thank You is the least we can do.

On Thursday, November 9th, We Celebrate the Goddess Epona

The Celtic Horse Goddess

Areas of Influence: Epona was the Celtic Horse Goddess whose worship spread to Britain and Rome from Western Europe.

Her name means “Divine mare” in Gaulish. Despite being a Gaulish word most of the surviving inscriptions and texts that mention this Goddess are in Latin.

The Roman cavalry had shrines dedicated to her she became almost like a patron emblem of certain factions of the Roman army.

Her popularity did not end there it was common to find small shrines in stables eventually she was so popular that a temple dedicated to her in Rome.

There was also a Roman Festival to honour her which was celebrated on 18th December.

The mare was an ancient symbol of fertility, this has lead to suggestions that she was an early Mother Goddess figure, whose role was later reduced to protector of horses.

Her cornucopia and the basket of fruit she carried provide further support for her role as a fertility Goddess.

This Goddess is often liked to both Rhiannon in Wales and Macha in Ireland due to their shared association with Horses.

There are no surviving Gaullish myths dedicated to this Goddess.

She was the bestower of sovereignty in Celtic kingship rites.

The Celtic horse Goddess has been linked to the White Horse at Uffington and Lady Godiva.

Origins and Genealogy: There are no accounts of her parentage or suggestions that she married and had children.

Strengths: Protector especially of horses and horsemen.

Weaknesses: As the information about this Goddess comes mainly from archaeological finds there is little information on this Goddess’s personality.

Epona’s Symbolism

She is depicted as a young Goddess, either sitting side saddle on a horse or feeding mares and foals food from a cornucopia or fruit basket.

There are also several images showing her riding a horse and cart.

Sacred Animals: Horses, mules, donkeys, dogs and birds.

Sacred Plants: Garlands of roses were used to decorate her shrines. incense and wine was offered.

Archetypes
No specific Archetype has been assigned to this Goddess as she has no distinct personality.

She could be seen as a Child of Nature due to her link with horses and dogs. I dismissed this option however as this Archetype conjures up images of wild animals rather than domesticated ones.

The name is derived from Old English and Middle English Thuresday (with loss of -n-, first in northern dialects, from influence of Old Norse Þorsdagr) meaning “Thor’s Day”. Thunor, Donar (German, Donnerstag) and Thor are derived from the name of the Germanic god of thunder, Thunraz, equivalent to Jupiter in the interpretation romance.

In most Romance languages, the day is named after the Roman god Jupiter, who was the god of sky and thunder. In Latin, the day was known as Iovis Dies, “Jupiter’s Day”. In Latin, the genitive or possessive case of Jupiter was Iovis/Jovis and thus in most Romance languages it became the word for Thursday: Italian giovedì, Spanish jueves, French jeudi, Sardinian jòvia, Catalan dijous, and Romanian joi.

The astrological and astronomical sign of the planet Jupiter is sometimes used to represent Thursday.

Since the Roman god Jupiter was identified with Thunor (Norse Thor in northern Europe), most Germanic languages name the day after this god: Torsdag in Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish, Hósdagur/Tórsdagur in Faroese, Donnerstag in German or Donderdag in Dutch. Finnish and Northern Sami, both non-Germanic (Uralic) languages, uses the borrowing “Torstai” and “Duorastat”. In the extinct Polabian Slavic language, it was perundan, Perun being the Slavic equivalent of Thor.

There are a number of modern names imitating the naming of Thursday after an equivalent of “Jupiter” in local tradition. In most of the languages of India, the word for Thursday is Guruvar- var meaning day and guru being the style for Bṛhaspati, guru to the gods and regent of the planet Jupiter. In Thai, the word is Wan Pharuehatsabodi—referring to the Hindu deity Bṛhaspati, also associated with Jupiter. En was an old Illyrian deity and in his honor in the Albanian language Thursday is called “Enjte”. In the Nahuatl language, Thursday is Tezcatlipotōnal meaning “day of Tezcatlipoca”.

Thursday’s Witchery

Today is the day for prosperity work of all kinds. It can also be used for healing work, whether that is a physical healing of an illness or an emotional healing. Also remember that you have to follow up your healing work and prosperity magick and physical action.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have met new witches who complain to me that their prosperity spell or “I need a better job” spell did not work as they expected. They’ll ramble on and on about how much time and money they spent working their magick….but, alas, they had no glorious manifestation of wealth or fabulous job that suddenly dropped out of the sky and landed in their laps.

Then, when I gently ask them, “Did you enchant your resume or application when you filled it out? Did you do a little confidence-boosting spellwork when you went to apply for the job or went to the interview?” typically they give me a blank, confused stare.

Nine times out of ten, their response is, “You mean I have to go out and actually look for the job too?” Um, yes, my dear, you certainly do. Well, let’s see … abundance, prosperity, and good health has been our focus for this day. Now how about a little more information and ideas for working practical magick with one of our fascinating featured deities of the day?

Juno was the Queen of Heaven. As the matriarch of the gods, she guarded over women in every aspect of their lives. Juno was thought to have renewed her virginity every year. Similar to other goddess stories, Juno was a triple goddess-a virgin who belonged to no one; a mother and woman in the prime of her life, sexual and mature; and also a crone, powerful, wise, and sometimes vengeful (as she made her husband’s many mistresses’ lives either fairly unhappy or short).

There are references to an early all-female triad of goddesses known as the Capitoline Triad. This triad consisted of Juventas, Juno, and Minerva. To the Greeks, they would have been known as Hebe, Hera, and Hecate. Ultimately the triad became Juno, Minerva, and the male Jupiter. Jupiter, another of Thursday’s gods, was Juno’s consort.

As mentioned earlier, Juno, in her aspect as Juno Moneta, was the patron and protector of the Roman mint. The coins produced at her temples were blessed by Juno and imbued with her powers of abundance and prosperity. In another of her aspects as Juno Augusta, Juno was the goddess of an abundant harvest.

In addition, another of Juno’s magickal correspondences is the semiprecious stone malachite. Malachite is a beautiful green-banded stone that was also called the “peacock stone” in Italy. The peacock was a sacred animal of Juno’s, and the magickal energies of malachite encourage health and prosperity.

The Witches Magick for Thursday, November 9th – A Winter Prosperity Spell

Gather your supplies:

A piece of ribbon from Yule in your favorite color at least 12 inches long.
A green candle
A bit of Myrrh oil

Ritual:
Rub a few drops of Myrrh oil into the candle and light it.
Tie nine knots in the ribbon while reciting this rhyme:

“By the count of one, this spell’s begun,
By the count of two, prosperity’s due,
By the count of three, I’ll have no more need,
By the count of four, abundance galor,
By the count of five, this spell’s alive,
By the count of six, prosperity’s fixed,
By the count of seven, blessings given,
By the count of eight, I seal my fate,
By the count of nine, praise the Goddess divine!”

Pass the tied ribbon through the smoke from the candle three times. Put the ribbon in a safe place for the next year looking and meditating on it if you need extra strength throughout the year. As the next year commences, burn the old ribbon and empower a new one!

Loy Krathog, Lord Mayor’s Day

Loy Krathog is the traditional wishing festival of Thailand. On this day, small boats are fashioned from banana peels and lotus leaves. When the sun sets, people take their boats to the shore, where they fill them with offerings of incense and gardenia petals. A white candle is then placed in the boat along with a wish. The boats are then set adrift on the water. It is believed that if the candle in the boat stays lit until its owner can no longer see, then the wish will be granted.

After the calendar reform of 1752 the Lord Mayor’s Day was moved from October 28 to November 9. It is on this day that “Mock Mayors” are elected in many of the poorer English towns. The elections are designed to poke good-natured fun at some of the more prestigious municipalities and their sometimes times pompous politicians. Of course, the more offensive the candidate is, the more joy in having him take the podium, whereupon a cabbage stalk is presented to him to serve as hiis mayoral mace. The festivities are usually followed by somewhat raucous behavior and of course the usual drinking and feasting.

Mars stands out in the eastern sky before dawn this week. The magnitude 1.8 Red Planet rises three hours before the Sun and appears 15° high as twilight starts to paint the sky. It resides among the background stars of Virgo, and this morning it passes 1.8° south of 3rd-magnitude Gamma (γ) Virginis. Unfortunately, the view through a telescope proves disappointing — Mars spans just 4″ and shows no detail.

Last Quarter Moon arrives at 3:36 p.m. EST. It rises in the eastern sky around 11:30 p.m. local time and reaches its peak in the south around sunrise tomorrow morning, by which time it appears slightly less than half-lit. Throughout this period, our satellite resides among the background stars of western Leo the Lion.

Saturday, November 11

Although Jupiter passed on the far side of the Sun from our perspective in late October, it already is climbing into view before dawn. To find it, head outside about a half-hour before sunrise and locate dazzling Venus. This morning, Jupiter appears 1° directly below its sibling. The gas giant planet shines some two magnitudes fainter than Venus but still stands out through binoculars against the bright twilight. Two mornings from now, these planets pass within 0.3° of each other in the finest planetary conjunction of 2017.

A lone bright star now hangs low in the south during early evening. First-magnitude Fomalhaut — often called “the Solitary One” — belongs to the constellation Piscis Austrinus the Southern Fish. From mid-northern latitudes, it climbs 20° above the horizon at its best. How solitary is Fomalhaut? The nearest 1st-magnitude star to it, Achernar at the southern end of Eridanus the River, lies some 40° away.

There was an interesting comment in the back and I figured when I started talking about the Goddess I would open up a can of worms. It’s not a bad comment or a rude comment but we being humans are curious and this individual was curious. They wanted to know if I had seen the Goddess what did she look like, can you describe her, they would like to know.

Yes, I can describe her and I can also describe the circumstances leading up to my seeing her. I can also describe how she healed me and made me whole again. I hope you are ready for a boring story up to the point where I do meet the Goddess. But let me say one thing, I can describe to you how the Goddess looked and appeared to me but I don’t believe you will see her the same way. We all have our own set of beliefs on how the Divine looks. We grew up with that embedded in our brains. You could have been influenced by your parents, if you are coming to the Craft from another religion, you could have been influenced by that religion. I sincerely believe that no two people will see the Divine in the same matter or form. We all have a preconceived idea of what the Divine looks like. For the men, the Divine might not appear to them as female instead the Divine might appear to them as a man. No matter how many times I tell you my story, you will never see the Divine as I did. I am not saying I am special or anything like that, I am going back to the preconceived idea of how the DIvine would look and appear. Is she/he real? Very much so.

Now on with my boring story……I believe everyone knows I have an all metal back. I don’t know what I had done or how it had even happened, but I had a very large chunk of bone floating in my back. That fragment had floated over to my spinal cord. I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t move the lower part of my body. My mouth still worked because I has in horrible pain. The bone was in a very unusual spot. If they operated, I might not ever walk again. If they left it, it was for sure I would never walk again. I would live in torment and pain the rest of my life. I have been active all my life and the thought of being in a wheel chair, killed me. The pain was getting more and more unbearable and I started to pray for the Goddess to take me home. Let me die, I didn’t want to live if the life I faced was to be my new reality. I repeated it over and over again, let me die, please, let me die. The pain medicine wasn’t working and I made my mind up I was going to be a vegetable. I passed out from the pain while I was being put on an MRI table. I don’t know if I died or what happened. All I remember is the darkest, nothing but sheer black. It was as if I was floating, just gently drifting along, so peaceful. As I slowly drifted along, the pain started to ease and I thought I had got my wish to die. I do remember seeing blue such as in the sky. Then out of the corner of my left eye I could see a hug tree, till this day I assume it is the World Tree. In front of the tree appeared a beautiful lady. She had a blue flowing gown on, one which the end of it went on and on forever floating and swaying in the sky. She had long blonde hair, some of it was braided and from around her head was rays or more like an aura shining brightly. Her skin was glowing, she looked like she had star dust glistening on her face. She was purely magickal and you could feel her power. It was her power of love I felt. I tried to speak but I couldn’t. She put her long, slender fingers to her lips and made the hush sign. I had so many questions but I couldn’t speak. But she did speak and it was as if she read my mind. She told me she was my Divine Mother. My pain had ended and I would now be at peace. I thought I had died but she told me no, it wasn’t my time. I would be sent back and I was to remember the gift she had given me and remember the commitment I had made to her. I remember her gently gliding her hands over my eyes and I drifted off to sleep. When I woke, the doctors has been trying to revive me. So apparently I did pass. I woke with tears streaming down my face. I didn’t want to leave her. Her essence was the purest form of love anyone come ever feel. The safety and comfort of just being in her presence, why would anyone want to come back?

After all the drama had settled down, the doctors brought in a portable X-ray and took images of where the bone fragment was suppose to be. I thought something strange because they brought in another one. The doctors compared the before and after images of my spinal column, there was no fragment to be found. It was gone. It wasn’t a small fragment either, it was one big enough that had to be removed by surgery or by other means. No scar could be found, no fragment, no nothing. How do you explain that? I believe some might call it a miracle. I call it being healed by the Goddess’ good graces and love for me.

What I described was my own personal experience. When your time comes, you will have a totally different experience. The Divine does not want to scare us, that is why they appear to us in images we are familiar with. I had imagined what the Goddess would look like since I was a child and she appeared to me in that image. It was an image I was familiar with and associated with love, kindness and goodness.

I know certain religions has images that are their image of the Divine. Everyone imagines their Divine looking one way. The Divine is the Divine and will appear to us in any form they like. The Goddess shaped and formed us our of star dust in their image. Deep in our subconcious, we recognize these Divine Beings as being just that, Divine. But the seed for us to recognize them was planted a very long time ago.

I can’t convince anyone of their being a Higher Power than ourselves. All I know and can tell is what I experienced. Now if you want to talk about seeing my Deity, that might take a while.

Lady of the Abyss

I took a break from double checking the inventory and putting it on the site for a moment. I use to love to put the merchandise on the site because I had Mystie with me. We would go through the items, items that we wished we could afford, of course. You don’t realize how much you miss someone till something like just inventorying merchandise brings back those happy memories. But I know she is in a much better place now and that eases the pain a little.

The store that we built, we built for each of you. We had members over the years tell or ask us where they could get this or that. After listening to the needs of our members, we decided it was time we acted. We opened the Magickal Necessities. It started out small but it has grew to a point where it is now unbelievable. I believe we now carry everything a witch could possibly want. I was worried about the prices but I had Lady Beltane tell me that our herbs needed to be higher. She has found a place on the internet and their herbs were double ours. That made me feel good. When we opened the store, it was never our intention to rob anyone. We just wanted to provide you with the items, herbs or whatever you needed.

I will also be honest with you. After we saw that the store could make a little profit (nothing we are going to get rich off of, but….) it gave us hope on how to keep our expenses met without having to beg and plead for money for you. I know you have heard me say, “I don’t like asking you for money” and that is the honest to Goddess’ truth, I don’t. I would rather have my tongue pulled out of my head than ask anyone for anything. As those who know me, know I am independent, self-driven and what get me in trouble most often is I am ambitious. Some say too ambitious. But I don’t believe the WOTC would have been around this long if I hadn’t been and without the aid and assistance from the Goddess. The store pays for our organizations to operate, we have many sites, it pays the utilities here, the phone bill, the lights, it pays the expenses on running everything we do. So by supporting the store, you are helping the WOTC to survive.

We would also like to see our sells increase because we are revisiting a dream we once had. I know some of you know about it, while others don’t because I don’t speak of it anymore. But that is going to change, it is something we have all dreamed of and it is not only for you fur also us, I am being truthful again. We dreamed of buying several areas of land. We wanted to turn that land into a Pagan retreat. A place we could all come to meet, fellowship and worship our Goddess or any other of the Divine you chose. Mystie’s passing has made me remember this dream. We looked at land, planned out where we would put the pavillions, where the RV’s and tents would go, where we hold our celebrations, we had it all laid out. You know the funny thing, the land we looked at is still sitting there. It is like it is waiting for us. This Pagan retreat, as I call it, would be open all year. If you happened to be traveling through this area, you could stop, meet with us and perhaps do a ritual or two while you were here. Then when the Sabbats occurred, what a joyous celebration there would be. After thnking about all the dreams we had, I now want to make them become a reality. I don’t want that dream to die with Mystie. It was my idea as well as hers. I honestly believe we can achieve this goal now.

Just imagine, hundreds, even thousands of Pagan gathered in one spot to celebrate with liked mind people. Let your imagination run wild. The spot we ave picked is beautiful, lush green fields to run through, a small brook which leds to a good size lake filled with fish. Imagine the peace and contentment from being within individuals like yourself. Not having to watch every word you said nor action you made, it would be pure freedom. I would love to see this dream come to fruition during my time on this plane. I would like to think the WOTC left behind something that would benefit future generations to come.

Now I have laid out our intentions for the proceeds from the store.. Now you know why it is important that the store survives and thrives. You can help us by making purchases, or just telling someone we exist. Word of mouth sometimes works much better than advertising and I have to admit it is much cheaper, lol!

On Tuesday, November 7th, We Honor the Goddess Juno

Juno

Roman Goddess

Areas of Influence: Juno was the Goddess of marriage, pregnancy and childbirth.

She was the Queen of the Gods and part of the Capitoline triad that also included Minerva and Jupiter.

This Deity was an embodiment of the traditional female roles of wife and mother.

One of her titles was Lucino (meaning light) as she helped to bring children into the light of this world at birth. She was also said to set and strengthen a child’s bones.

She was also Goddess of conception, a Goddess to be called upon in labour and one who helped settle disagreements between spouses.

Juno protected the finances of the Roman people. In this role she was the patron Goddess of the royal mint.

Before she absorbed many of Hera’s characteristics several scholars suggest that she was a Maiden Goddess.

The Month of June was named after her and it was considered the most favourable month to get married in.

Her other claim to fame is that as an archetypal figure she appears in Shakespeare’s play The Tempest.

Each Roman woman was said to have her own Juno which represented her female spirit.

Origins and Genealogy: According to later Roman myths she was the sister and consort of Jupiter and the mother of Mars, Hebe and Vulcan.

Mars was conceived when the Goddess was imoregnated by a flower.

Strengths: Leadership and a loyal wife.

Weaknesses: Jealousy and vindictiveness.

Symbolism

This Roman Goddess had a more warlike nature than Hera and was often depicted in a goat skin coat that was favoured among Roman soldiers.

She was also able to throw lightning bolts like her husband Jupiter.

Sacred Birds: Geese and peacocks.

Sacred Plants: The wild fig tree.

Festivals: A special ceremony was dedicated to her in the home to celebrate the beginning of each lunar month.

Her main festival, the Matronalia was held on 1st March. On this day married woman asked their husbands to give them money to make offerings to the Goddess.

A smaller celebration known as the Nonae Caprotinae took place on 7th July.

Greek and Etruscan Equivalents: The Goddess Hera was the Greek equivalent to Juno.

Uni was the Etruscan Goddess who shared many similarities with this Deity.

Juno’s Archetypes

The Queen

In the positive aspect the Queen represents the regal feminine. Using her benevolent authority to protect others. This Archetype can signify the power of women who rule over anything from the office to the home environment.

The shadow aspect reflects the tendency to become arrogant, controlling and aggressive when challenged.

As Queen of the Roman pantheon Hera has power and authority. Like her Greek counterpart, Hera, she misuses her position when she feels threatened.

The Companion

This stereotype is loyal, tenacious and unselfish in their service to a more figure of authority. In this relationship she provides the with emotional and practical support to enable her partner to concentrate on his mission. This was long considered the traditional role of the wife.

The shadow Companion manifests as betrayal, breaking confidences and identity loss through constantly suppressing your own needs.

Despite her husbands numerous affairs Juno remained loyal to her husband.

How To Work With These Archetypes

The Queen:

The Queen asks whether you rule over your domain fairly, protecting every body’s rights and feelings.

Or do you need to look at patterns of trying to control others to protect your own emotional and personal position? If this is one of your patterns, you need to ask yourself what are you afraid of losing and where does that fear stem from ?

The Companion:

Magickal Days of the Week – Tuesday

Named for the Norse god Tyr, who was a deity of heroism and combat, Tuesday is a very martial sort of day – color associations include bright red and oranges, as well as warrior-like metals such as iron and steel.

The ancient Romans called this day Martis, after the warrior god Mars – other deities associated with Tuesday include Ares, the Morrighan, and other gods of battle and glory. Red gemstones like rubies and garnets come into play on Tuesdays, as do herbs and plants such as thistles, holly, coneflowers and cacti – you’ll notice these are all sharp, prickly plants!

One of the interesting – and more than a little amusing – aspects of Tuesday magic is that in addition to war and conflict against your enemies, this is a day also associated with marriage. You can also use this day of the week for magical workings connected to protection and initiation. Use Tuesday to assert yourself, make a mark and stake your claims.

The Witches Guide to Tuesday

A god, goddess, or planet governs each day of the week. It is usually easy to spot the ruler of the day by its name. The word Tuesday, however, is not so easy, but if we look at the word in Spanish, Martes, we clearly see its connections to Mars.

Because Tuesday revolves around the energy of Mars, Tuesdays are good for business, mechanical things, buying and selling animals, hunting, beginning studies, gardening, sexual activities, and confrontation. This is a day for sex magick, energy, stamina, and health. As in the old saying, Tuesdays child is full of grace, is also good for success magick and defense against enemies.

Angels of Tuesday are Camael, Samael, Satael, Amabiel, Friagne, and Hyniel. When invoked, Camael takes the form of a leopard. In Druid mythology he is a god of war, which is why we see him associated with Mars. Camael is said to be a member of the “Magnificent Seven” in some circles. Camael is another “terminator” angel.

Samael walks both worlds as a magician and sorcerer. some see him as the angel of death, others as “the bright and poisonous one.” Many consider him more of a demon, and accuse him of being Satan. However, there is reference to the satans (plural) as enforcers of the law, a sort of angelic police, if you will. Supposedly, when Samael is around, dogs howl in the night. On one hand, he is the ruler of the fifth heaven and in charge of two million angels; on the other, he is the one who changed into a serpent and convinced Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit of knowledge.

Satael is an angel of air invoked in magic rites and is the presiding spirit of the planet Mars. Amabiel is another spirit of the planet Mars; however he spends his energy on issues of human sexuality. Friagne, also an angel of this day, is invoked from the east. He is a member of the fifth heaven. Hyniel also belongs to this day and is subject to the east wind.

On Tuesdays the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Mars, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. These four hours are the strongest ones to do ritual in. Check your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac to determine your local sunrise.

THE ANCIENT ART

Once upon a time, a long time ago, there were people who believed in laughter, joy and love. They believed in many deities, but the most important to them was their Great Mother Goddess. They believed in and lived with the powers of Nature. They reveled in the Wind, the Rain, the Snow and the Sunlight. They marveled at and revered the changing of the seasons and saw therein great excitement and wisdom to be gained. They knew that if they tended, cared for and loved the Earth, in return She would provide for, care for and love them. They saw that all around them the world was filled with Life, much as their own but in many different and wonderful forms. They felt the life of the flowers, plants and trees and respected them for that life essence. They looked about and observed all the many types of animals and saw that they were kindred to them and loved them. They felt and observed the great Love of the Goddess all about them and knew kinship with the Moon. They were practioners of The Old Religion, worshipers of The Great Mother.

Witch! The very word instantly invokes visions for each of us, visions which vary greatly from individual to individual. Many of these visions, however, are quite false, brought about by many centuries of severe persecutions, misrepresentations, prejudice and, in recent years, lack of knowledge. Witchcraft! What is it really?

Witchcraft is the oldest, most irrepressible religion in the world because it stimulates the intellect, promotes a simple, practical way of life and, most importantly, is emotionally satisfying. Its roots lie in the ancient Matriarchal systems of Goddess worship. A religion of Nature in which the primary deity is female (The Essence of Femininity, The Earth Mother, The Great Mother, etc.).

It was easy for the Wise Ones to look at the world around them and see the great importance of Feminine Principle. The female was, indeed, the one who bore the young, perhaps the most magickal of all events to ancient man. Then, she played by far the most important role in rearing the young, being totally responsible for feeding, for without her milk there was no life past birth. She was responsible for the teaching and early care of the young. In all youths the greatest comfort and nurturing love were connected with the mother. These revelations and experiences could hardly lead to any other choice than the total reverence and deification of the female.

Although The Great Mother is the most important deity, Witches do, generally, recognize many Goddesses and/or Gods and are, therefore, polytheistic. The tenets of Witchcraft are few but all-encompassing, for with three simple Universal Observationsall of life can be explained and understood:

1) Reincarnation – Mortality
2) Cause & Effect – Magick
3) Retribution – Morality

Reincarnation enlightens the Witch to the fact that, as we come

to this material world over and over in a series of learning periods, or lifetimes, we will eventually have to experience all things, be all things, understand all things. This creates a great tolerance for other viewpoints in the Witch.

Cause & Effect, and an understanding of it, allows the Witch to see what makes the world work and how to live most efficiently. It gives them a great advantage in that it explains the working of Magick.

Retribution shows the Witch, in graphic terms, that every thought one might have, every action one may take, is returned in like kind. This realization forms the basis of the Moral Code of the Witch.

The Patriarchal Societies which evolved in later times had no tolerance for the Goddess religions and systematically set out to destroy the material vestiges, kill or convert the adherents and wipe out all knowledge of them. They destroyed the temples and other places of worship, desecrated the sacred groves and magickal places, attempted to pervert the old deities, mutilated and totally suppressed sacred art, tore down libraries and burned
books, tortured and killed the practitioners of the Old Religions, demeaned, persecuted and oppressed women in general and passed strictly enforced laws which made theirs the State Religion and forbade all other viewpoints.

Despite the centuries of insidious persecution, deliberate destruction and perversions at the hands of the Christian Conspirators, Witchcraft has survived.

COMMON INQUIRIES

I’ve heard the terms ‘White Witch’ and ‘Black Witch’. Can you explain?

In this connotation, white is referring to Positive, Black is referring to Negative. A White Witch then is someone who tries to do Positive or Good things. Black Witch could be a term used to describe someone who deliberately does Negative or Bad things. A True Witch believes in the Law of Retribution and would never deliberately harm anyone or anything or participate in Negative or Destructive acts.

Is it possible for me to practice Witchcraft and remain a Christian?

No. The Christian Doctrine states, unequivocally, that Christians shall have no other Gods before the Christian God. Christian Doctrine says to believe in any other deities or to practice any other religion is not only evil but should be punished by death, specifically naming Witchcraft. The Christian Doctrine also denies Reincarnation and prescribes punishment for those who practice Magick.

Devil worship?

Witches do not worship the Devil. Witchcraft predates Christianity and does not incorporate a belief in the Christian Devil.

The Wise Ones did deify the Masculine Principle and quite often He was depicted as The Great Horned God; Pan, Cernunnos, the Great Stag, The Green Man. To the Traditional Witch, the Masculine Deity (the Goddess’ Consort) is very important, revered and loved. He is the perfect Father, the Lord Protector. The Horned God of the Witches is loving, kind and good.

Don’t men have difficulty with a supreme female deity? There are some groups which give equal status to the female and male deities.

Neo-Pagans are, by definition, people who attempt to live with the Old Country Ways in a new, modern day manner. And while, in this modern era, equal status for the deities may be popular, as it relates to Witchcraft it is historically incorrect.

Therefore, a group which does not recognize the Goddess as primary deity is not practicing The Ancient Art. Indeed, they generally, know very little about Witchcraft, despite their claims. Traditional Dualistic Witches do most emphatically believe that women and men are equal, but have no trouble relating to the Goddess. The Male Witch finds great comfort and solace in his Great Mother.

Do I have to join a Coven?

No. It is not necessary nor is it desirable for a great many people. Some people enjoy the support and companionship a Coven provides, others enjoy solitary worship. The Coven, which is an extremely close knit worship group, may not be possible for some because of location, family climate, availability, etc.

Why is Witchcraft secretive?

The horror of the ‘Burning Time’ is still very real to the Witch. The past persecutions were severe. Even so, in today’s more enlightened society the need for complete secrecy has lessened and many are able to share their beliefs openly. Very few, however, are willing to expose their very personal and private religious expressions to others who may not understand.

What do I have to do to become a Witch?

The answer to this question is very simple. To become a Witch one must follow the religion of Witchcraft. To do this one must believe in the Goddess as primary deity and follow the three basic tenets. How simple! How uncomplicated! How Pagan!
Everything else concerning witchcraft is simply minor details.

Details that vary from Aspect to Aspect, Coven to Coven and individual to individual. The details are relatively personal. They should not become more important than the basic tenets. If you do not understand, believe and practice Witchcraft, you are not a Witch. No one can make you a Witch. Reading about it can not make you a Witch. An Initiation can not make you a Witch. Saying you are a Witch, one thousand and fifty two times, can not make you a Witch.

In the search for your individual path beware of those who would take advantage of you. Do not fall prey to the unscrupulous charlatans who would swindle you in a monetary sense (mail-order courses, charges for teaching or initiations, vows of poverty, etc.), exploit you sexually or manipulate you for their own personal ego-trips.

The variable star Algol in Perseus reaches minimum brightness around 10:56 p.m. EST, when it shines at magnitude 3.4. If you start tracking it this evening, you can watch it more than triple in brightness (to magnitude 2.1) by dawn. This eclipsing binary star runs through a cycle from minimum to maximum and back every 2.87 days. Algol remains visible all night, passing nearly overhead around midnight local time.

Wednesday, November 8

As if the earlier sunsets this week don’t put you in mind of winter, the midevening appearance of the season’s most conspicuous constellation surely will. Orion the Hunter rises in the eastern sky around 9 p.m. local time and appears halfway to the zenith in the southeast by midnight. Look for three 2nd-magnitude stars in a line that form the Hunter’s belt. The constellation’s brightest stars are ruddy Betelgeuse and blue-white Rigel.

Thursday, November 9

Mars stands out in the eastern sky before dawn this week. The magnitude 1.8 Red Planet rises three hours before the Sun and appears 15° high as twilight starts to paint the sky. It resides among the background stars of Virgo, and this morning it passes 1.8° south of 3rd-magnitude Gamma (γ) Virginis. Unfortunately, the view through a telescope proves disappointing — Mars spans just 4″ and shows no detail.

Last Quarter Moon arrives at 3:36 p.m. EST. It rises in the eastern sky around 11:30 p.m. local time and reaches its peak in the south around sunrise tomorrow morning, by which time it appears slightly less than half-lit. Throughout this period, our satellite resides among the background stars of western Leo the Lion.

Although Jupiter passed on the far side of the Sun from our perspective in late October, it already is climbing into view before dawn. To find it, head outside about a half-hour before sunrise and locate dazzling Venus. This morning, Jupiter appears 1° directly below its sibling. The gas giant planet shines some two magnitudes fainter than Venus but still stands out through binoculars against the bright twilight. Two mornings from now, these planets pass within 0.3° of each other in the finest planetary conjunction of 2017.

A lone bright star now hangs low in the south during early evening. First-magnitude Fomalhaut — often called “the Solitary One” — belongs to the constellation Piscis Austrinus the Southern Fish. From mid-northern latitudes, it climbs 20° above the horizon at its best. How solitary is Fomalhaut? The nearest 1st-magnitude star to it, Achernar at the southern end of Eridanus the River, lies some 40° away.

Tuesday 7th November

Today we are exactly in between the September Equinox and December’s Winter Solstice. It’s a moment of balance, a hinge in the year. And lovely Venus plunges into watery Scorpio today too. Altogether, a moment for reflection…

There are seldom times, I have to be alone and just think. The biggest thing that has always weighed on my mind and I am sure others, is how did we get created? How the planets formed? How did the universe formed? Better yet how did our own planet form? Unfortunately, due to events beyond our control, we do not have much written history.

The image that has recently came into my mind is one of beauty and most of all love. It is an image of the Divine at work. Now I want you to use your imaginations with me or for those of the Craft, visualize with me for a moment…..Imagine a dark, blank slate which happens to be the void. The Divine looked at the void and saw something was needed. She spread her hand across the void and lite it up with thousands upon thousands of beautiful stars. The stars were beautiful but yet there was still something missing. What She wondered?After all the beauty she had created among the stars, there was now a void in her heart. She decided she needed a companion to share the beauty she had created with her. The male form God she then created. She felt his companionship, his caring and his love. With those feelings stemming from Him, the Goddess decided these feelings should be shared but with who or what. With both of them agreeing, these feelings of love that they were experiencing should be share, the Goddess decided she would give birth to a new species. A species that would be part of them, experience the love and awe they felt. We would not only be their children but a very special species. A species formed out of their love, kindness and goodness, a part of the Divine.

The Goddess took her beautiful hand and from the Stars she had created, formed a small ball from them. She then proceeded to form from those very magickal stars an image in the likeness of the God. It was not right for the man figure created to be alone. Alone he could not know the happiness and love that the God and Goddess shared. She reached her long, slender fingers up to the heavens and gathered more stars. This time she formed a female figure from those stars.

With the male and female now being formed, the God and Goddess decided to create a very special place for them. A place they could call home, care for and nurture. This place was and is our planet. She gently lowered the beings to the planet. What wonders they held before them. They were thankful for the beautiful home that the God & Goddess had given them. No stipulations were given to them for these new beings on this new planet were made from the stars and were also made from the God and Goddess. Without a word being spoken they knew in their hearts what was to be done, what they were to teach their children and the laws to live by.

The laws that were never spoken but always were known where simple…Take care of your new home, care for each other, love each other and always remember my children, you are special. You are special because you come from the stars and the Universe. You are part of the God and Goddess. You will live out your days in peace and when your time is done on this planet, you will come home to us again. But only for a brief time, then you will be reborn or reincarnated again to carry the lessons you have previously learned forward into your new life. With each new reincarnation and with what you have learned from the past, you will make your home a better place.

But always remember one thing, my children, you are a part of the Divine. You come from the stars and you are the most precious thing on your new planet. Love each other, cherish each other and find the love and happiness that We have found with each other.

For our gift to you, our children, is peace, love, happiness and the most important of all, freewill. Use your gifts wisely, my children. Follow our example, never stray from it, for we have given you life. It is your life but chose wisely, children. Learn to use your gifts in all ways that honor us, your Divine Parents.

I know I occasionally ask a lot of you but you have to understand the importance of what I ask. I know most of you and your circumstances. That’s all you will have to do. Get them here and then I will do the preaching to them. I know why I was put on this Earth and I have strayed a little from that Path. I feel if I hadn’t then perhaps the world wouldn’t be in such a mess.

My purpose and I have known it all along is to spread the truth about the Craft, to spread the word of our Goddess and bring people back to the oldest religion on this planet. Get them here and they will hear our message. You have my word on that.
