Are You a Full, Half or Dark Moon Type?

fantasy woman
Are You a Full, Half or Dark Moon Type?

It was a revelatory moment for me, to find out the Moon phase I was born in. Are you a full, half-Moon or new Moon kinda person? Do you have a waxing or waning nature?

I was born at the waning dark of the Moon, when there’s a turning inward to prepare for a new cycle. Oh yeah! A wrap up lifetime, in sync with the winding down and all-is-revealed-as-illusion spirit of our times. That’s always been an undercurrent in my life.

In readings, it adds a new dimension, when a client finds out they’re a full Moon or new Moon baby, or a point in between. I know two artists that are new Moon babes, in fire sign Aries, and they embody that shining forth and thrust into new experiences. One even became a founding member of a New Moon arts collective.

Your Moon phase is the Sun-Moon relationship at the time of your birth. It’s the point you were born in the never ending waxing and waning cycle.

The Sun is traditionally seen as yang, radiating, external engagement with life. The Moon, is yin, the reflected light, the instinctual.

The solar-lunar relationship shows how you take in and reflect back light (the energies in your environment).

In his book, the Lunation Cycle, astrologer Dane Rudhyar wrote of the lunar phases as an accurate indicator of life purpose and basic personality. Discovering my own balsamic, or Dark Moon phase helped me understand my own sense of disconnection to current culture. It’s considered a wrap up lifetime, to some astrologers, with short intense relationships, to tie up loose ends.

What’s Your Moon Phase?
The lunar phases come from the four crossroads points (Full, New and Half Moons), and four further divisions within those. There are a total of eight Moon phases. Find your own Moon phase, and see chart examples. You can also simply input your birth year and month at StarDate.org to see the Moon phases and find your day.

The Moon in Leo

The Mood of Leo
The Moon sets the emotional tone as it transits through the Zodiac signs. It changes signs every 2 1/2 days. You can work with this rhythm to “go with the flow” of the Moon. You can use it to know the general feeling tone to expect.

When the Moon is in Leo, we want to LOL! It’s time to party! We emerge from the homey Cancer Moon, and want to be out where the action is. Joy for living comes up from the heart, and has us looking around for fun.

We want to live large.
This Moon brings a cheery vibe, making it easier to be lifted out of the doldrums. You might want to leave the day open, and let your spontaneous mischievous child inside lead the way. There’s a lure to colorful, special places like museums, food fairs and festivals and glamourous high end boutiques. It’s a mood heightened by spectacles like parades, costume parties and children’s theme parties. There’s delight in playing make-believe under this Moon, above the mundane of life.

This is a flirty Moon, and you get away with it, because it’s all for fun. The Leo lunar vibe brings out the cocky bravado in men and the diva in women.

You might spend more time with the mane and dress, in anticipation of being seen. It’s a Moon to revel in being admired and taking pride in appearance.

When the Moon is in Leo, there’s sparky inspiration in the air, and we may encourage each other to shine more brightly. Go ahead and hold the stage. Tell a story and make it dramatic. Make some children laugh by being a clown. Tap into your inner thespian, and make all the world your stage!

Things to do when the Moon is in Leo:
tell jokes; send funny pictures on Facebook; surprise someone with a just-for-fun gift; encourage someone you love; accessorize; style your hair in a way that gets attention; wear warm colors (red, orange, yellow); smile when walking down the street; dance to your favorite music; have a girls night out; go on an adventure with a child; take a creative risk; work on your screenplay or play; decorate your home for the holidays.

Third Quarter Moon Phase

Luna Magica

Third Quarter Moon Phase

(From the second night after the full moon to the waning half moon.)

When the moon begins to wane, its light slowly dissipates in the night sky. This is a powerful time of internal energy and an opportunity to quietly look within. Focus on dreams, instincts, and gut hunches. If you are clairaudient, pay particular attention to those internal messages. While the moon wanes, work magick to remove negativity and obstacles that you are facing. During this lunar phase, work magick to carefully dissolve problems, push away troubles, and remove negativity in the best way possible for all those concerned. As the moon wanes, so too will the situation or problem. The third-quarter moon corresponds to the Crone aspect of the Goddess, such as Cerridwen, Hecate, or Nepthys.

Monday Tidbits

U'll B Mine!
Monday Tidbits

Monday is ruled by the moon. Magical work planned for a Monday should involve aspects of the Goddess and any rites to honor her. In Wicca, the phases of the moon are revered as natural symbols of the different phases of womanhood. Spells and rituals invoking change are appropriate for a Monday.

The moon rules the tides, so spells involving water are also appropriate for this time. Think of purification and cleansing work that you may need to do. Even consecrating your chalice would be an appropriate work for a Monday. Meditate on the aspects of the Greek maiden huntress, Artemis, twin sister of Apollo, or on her Roman counterpart, Diana of the silver bow. The lunar energy will bless your work if you acknowledge it correctly.

Monday Is A Day of Witchery, Magick and Enchantment

Lighten the Darkness
Monday Is A Day of Witchery, Magick and Enchantment

Think for a moment on all of the witchery, magick and enchantments that you have discovered. Don’t be afraid to adjust spells to suit your own specific needs. Any gentle, illusory, and dreamy charms and spells can be enhanced when you work on the day of the week that is dedicated to the moon. Mondays are a fantastic day to boost your psychic abilities and to tune in to your intuition and empathy. It also gives you the opportunity to work with a different lunar phase each and every Monday, which means in one month you could work four different types of moon magicks on Mondays. How’s that for adding to your repertoire? You are going to have mad skills in no time at all.

So light up those lunar scented candles and add a little mystique to your outfit by wearing an enchanting lunar color. Wear your sparkling silver jewelry and maybe add a pair of dangling silver earrings or a pendant shaped like a crescent moon. Create lunar potions and philters; make a dream catcher and give it as a gift to someone you love. Burn some sandalwood or jasmine-scented incense today to inspire the glamour and magick of the moon. Slice up a favorite variety of fruit that is in season for a snack or share it with your love and enjoy his or her lunar and romantic qualities. Brew up a cup of chamomile tea, enchant it with a little moon magick, and relax and get a good night’s sleep.

Most importantly, get outside tonight and watch the moon for a while. What phase is she in? What color was the moon as she rose? Why not start a journal and write down at what location the moon rises and sets for a few seasons? This is a great way to teach you to tune in and to become more aware of the moon and the influence that she pulls into our lives. Try calling on Selene for her magickal assistance, and call Thoth for wisdom and strength. Get to know the Norse Mani and the Latvian Meness. These gods of the moon have plenty to teach, and if you allow their influence to cycle through your life, you’ll receive many blessings. Be imaginative, and create your own personal lunar magick and witchery. Go on….the moonlight becomes you.

Monday

In the word Monday, we can see part of the word Moon. In the romance languages such as Italian or Spanish, this day of the week is called Lunes and clearly relates to the word lunar. On Mondays, a variety of magick may be worked. Because Monday centers on the energies of the Moon, things like dreams, feminine energy, health, success in spiritual pursuits, domestic matters, and things of family origin are especially important this day.

Mondays are best for love magick and anything concerning home or family, thus old saying, Mondays child is fair of face, which seems clearly to relate to the themes of love and health.

Angels of Monday are Gabriel, Arcan, Missabu, and Abuzaha. Arcan is known as the king of the angels of air and the “ruler” of Monday. Abuzaha (Abuzohar) serves Monday, and is very responsive to invocations and ritual magick. Missabu is a ministering angel of Arcan.

Check whether the moon is waning or waxing to determine what your spell will be. During waning moons, do spells to rid yourself of obstacles or for wisdom and protection. During waxing moons do magic for increase of any kind or to draw something into your life.

On Mondays, the best hour to work is moonrise. Get this information from your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac.

Magical Days Of the Week – Monday

Monday is the day of the moon itself, and it’s a day that’s connected to lunar colors like silver, white, or even a pale blue. Metals and gemstones like silver, pearl, opal and moonstone all come into play today.

There are plenty of deities associated with the moon – Thoth and Diana for instance – and herbal correspondences include many members of the mint family. Utilize wintergreen or peppermint, as well as catnip, comfrey, sage and chamomile in your workings.

When it comes to Monday magic, because of that lunar connection, it’s a good time to focus on workings related to childbearing and family life, purity and virginity, healing, wisdom, and intuition. Do a little bit of self exploration and work on developing your intuition – learn to trust your gut. Celebrate birth and life, and make some magic to fix what is broken.
