Your Daily Horoscopes for December 10th

The tension between our most immediate needs and our future goals is amplified today when the unsettled Gemini Full Moon Eclipse is illuminated by the Sun in far-reaching Sagittarius at 9:36 am EST. Unexpected events can suddenly relieve the stress because erratic Uranus ends its retrograde period. Additional weirdness abounds as the Sun forms otherworldly septiles with conservative Saturn and rebellious Uranus, turning this busy day upside down.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

It’s challenging to find your groove today because the Gemini Lunar Eclipse rattles your 3rd House of Immediate Environment. However, you may finally establish a sustainable rhythm later in the day once your frustration peaks. It’s pointless wasting energy worrying about what you could have done if only you were able to focus sooner. Instead, just do what you can, knowing that your concentration will improve over the days ahead.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

Although you probably won’t want to deal with financial concerns today, it’s wise to attend to money matters with the Gemini Lunar Eclipse stressing your 2nd House of Personal Resources. At least make sure your bills are paid before you purchase a luxury item. It’s smart to know exactly how much you have to spend, especially with the holidays rapidly approaching. Keep in mind that the best gifts are the ones that come from the heart and not just the wallet.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

You may feel anxious today with the Full Moon Eclipse in your restless sign, especially if you recently made commitments that you’re now reconsidering. Your vulnerability leaves you feeling uncomfortable, tempting you to escape by withdrawing socially or running away from an unsatisfactory romantic involvement. Nevertheless, don’t make any impulsive moves that could adversely affect a meaningful relationship because your emotions are still in a state of flux.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

It’s challenging to understand your own feelings today as the Gemini Lunar Eclipse polarizes your 12th House of Fantasy. Although your emotions may be quite intense, frustration is high because words can’t express what you want. Don’t try so hard to get your message across now. It will be much easier to say what you want tomorrow after the Moon enters your sign and you can speak from your heart.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

This could be a very social day as the Gemini Full Moon Eclipse energizes your 11th House of Friends. But the stress level may be amplified because you wish you could have quality time with a special companion instead of being one of the group. However, losing yourself in a crowd isn’t all bad, for it allows you to maintain some anonymity. But it’s a good idea to wait until you’re ready before talking about a topic that you’re not ready to share.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

Today’s Full Moon Eclipse in adaptable Gemini stimulates your 10th House of Career, revealing your ambiguity about work these days. You’re being pulled in two directions, making it tough to choose a single course of action. Meanwhile, personal activities or projects at home could distract you from professional responsibilities. Postpone major decisions for a few days until you have had more time to think things through.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

Your desire to go somewhere far away accentuates your restless feelings today as the Gemini Lunar Eclipse activates your 9th House of Adventure. However, the Moon is offset by the Sun in your 3rd House of Immediate Environment, giving you good reasons to stay close to home. Don’t worry if you can’t resolve your current travel dilemma right away. Daydreaming about an incredible journey from the comfort of your couch may be better now than actually taking one at this time.

Don’t make any major decisions until you share your thoughts with those you trust.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

You may have so many chores to do today that you feel pushed and pulled in a variety of directions. The Gemini Full Moon Eclipse in your 6th House of Daily Routine scatters your energy, making it difficult to follow through on any single task. However, you can use your imagination to help create your future. Keep your dreams alive at any cost, even if you’re feeling frustrated because of your lack of progress. Don’t worry; you will soon regain your focus and continue on your path.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Today’s interactive Gemini Lunar Eclipse stimulates your 5th House of Love and Creativity. Actions usually speak louder than words, but communicating your feelings now is the most direct way to connect with others. But don’t get distracted by witty phrases and clever comebacks. Hold on to your vision of what you want to say and keep bringing yourself back to the essential point so that your message is well-received.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

You may have community responsibilities today, but the Gemini Full Moon Eclipse in your 4th House of Home and Family encourages you to remember the importance of your personal life, too. Naturally, you must keep up with your worldly obligations, but don’t use them as an excuse to evade domestic issues. Balancing your public life with your private affairs helps to minimize problems in the future.

Lunar Eclipses – The Science Behind These Events

Lunar Eclipses

The Science Behind These Events

By John P. Millis, Ph.D

What Is A Lunar Eclipse?

Simply put, a lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth passes directly between the Sun and the Moon. (This means that lunar eclipses, by definition, can only occur during a full Moon.) The result is that direct sunlight from the Sun does not strike the lunar surface. However, this does not mean that no light reaches the surface.

Under certain types of eclipses, light from the Sun can actually be bent by Earth’s atmosphere, casting the Moon in a red or orangish color. Other types of eclipses will simply block a percentage of the Sun’s rays, making the Moon appear darker. And of course, some eclipses are a combination of the two phenomenon (see below).

How Does This Differ From The Normal Lunar Cycle?

While the Moon does go around the Earth, it’s path is actually normally tilted with respect to the Sun. Therefore the different phases of the Moon that we observe during the normal lunar cycle are a result of only half of the Moon getting sunlight at any given time. Then depending on where you are on Earth, you see the Moon at an angle.

The Different Types of Lunar Eclipses

Boiling lunar eclipse down to the Earth’s shadow being cast over the surface of the Moon is quite an over simplification. As already stated, some of the Sun’s light can still reach the surface because of the bending of the light around the Earth. But to complicate the matter further, the Earth’s shadow is actually broken up into two distinct parts (see image).

The umbra is the portion of the Earth’s shadow that does not contain any direct radiation from the Sun. The focus of the umbra is the point at which all three celestial bodies are properly aligned. Despite this, the eclipse does not completely drape the Moon in darkness because light from the Sun can actually be refracted through the Earth’s atmosphere and find its way to the Moon.

The result of this refraction is that the Sun’s light will be separated into individual colors. The more directly aligned the Earth, Moon and Sun are the Moon’s color will transition to more of an orange hue, then red. This is actually the same phenomenon that causes the sky to appear reddish at sunset and sunrise.

When the Moon is fully contained within the umbra, the Moon is said to be in total eclipse. This event can last nearly two hours, while the Moon can be in at least partial eclipse for nearly four hours.

The penumbra is the region of space where the Earth is only partially blocking the light from the Sun. As the Moon moves from outside the shadow toward the umbra the Moon will begin to appear darker and darker. Again, the Moon never appears in complete darkness because some of the light from the Sun is always reaching the surface up until the Moon reaches the umbra.

Normally the Moon will lie only partially in the penumbra area (known as a penumbral eclipse), but occasionally, the Moon will find itself completely in the penumbra. These events, called total penumbral eclipses, are rare. And they are typically characterized by one side of the Moon appearing darker than the other due to one side approaching or receding from the umbra.

These total penumbral eclipses can immediately precede or follow a partial eclipse where the Moon is partially in each of the umbra and penumbra regions.

The Danjon Scale For Lunar Eclipse Brightness

There are obviously a variety of lunar eclipses, causing a variety of different Lunar appearances. In order to classify what kind of lunar eclipse is occurring a scale known as the Danjon scale was developed by André-Louis Danjon.

Essentially an L value is determined based solely on the appearance of the Moon. Using only the naked eye, the observer estimates which category the eclipse falls into to.

    • L=0, This represents the darkest eclipse, and is probably what most people imagine when they think of a lunar eclipse.

    • L=1, While still very dark, there is a grey or brown hue to the Moon. However, details of the Moon are still difficult to identify.

    • L=2, During this type of eclipse the Moon will appear dark red, possibly with a slight hint of orange. The Moon still appears very dark at this value.

    • L=3, The Moon is now brick-red and noticeably lighter than the previous value. Also, the edges can appear lighter, possibly with a yellowish hue.

  • L=4, The Moon now appears bright red or orange, while the edge of the Moon appears almost bluish

The problem with the Danjon scale is that it is not based on an absolute flux or color level, meaning that scientific instruments aren’t used to decide what L value the eclipse represents. Therefore, different people observing the same eclipse can arrive at different L values. So, it’s not very precise, but typically it yields a fairly good idea of what kind of eclipse you are observing.

When Is the Next Lunar Eclipse?

There are always at least two lunar eclipses per year. However, these are sometimes penumbral eclipses which can be difficult to see because the Moon simply appears slightly darker. And given atmospheric conditions, no noticeable different may be apparent.

Total and partial eclipses are far more exciting however, although these are more rare. Typically there are anywhere from zero to three total or partial eclipses each year. To determine when the next eclipse will occur, NASA has put together a handy online tool, which will tell you the date and time of the next lunar eclipse given your location on the Earth.

Lunar Eclipse

Lunar Eclipse

In the Earth’s Shadow

By Molly Hall

The Full Moon is always the alignment of the Sun and Moon in opposite Zodiac signs. The lunar eclipse happens when the Earth is smack dab in the middle, altering how the Moon reflects the solar light. Eclipses come in pairs, and usually come every six months, as that’s when the Moon’s orbit hits the ecliptic.

There’s a mysterious, underworld quality to the lunar eclipse. The Moon turns orangey or blood red, because of the shorter wavelengths being filtered through the Earth’s atmosphere. This frightened people in earlier times, as the cool lunar surface turned a malevolent red. Some cultures believed the Moon was swallowed by a three-legged toad (China) or a jaguar (Maya), and was a herald of demonic or destructive energies afoot. They shouted, clanged pots and pans, and banged drums to dispel the dark spirits lurking around.

What does it bring?

Since full Moon’s are a time of illumination, the lunar eclipse momentarily throws up shadows of darkness. And often it’s the shadows of the “unlived life,” buried potential, being brought to the surface. It’s a bit like the rich void of the New Moon, where you’re in touch with a well of psychic material. It can be disorienting, as your feet are often leaving the ground of the known!

If you’ve been living in a fantasy world, you’re knocked back to earth. It can be destabilizing and rock the foundations. You are forced to be fully present to some event. You may get shattering news. It takes awhile to fully understand what’s happening, and to find your footing again. Sometimes the events of the eclipse are worked out over a long period, say six months.

Full Moons are times of super high energy, and surging emotion across the spectrum. The eclipse intensifies the sense of being overwhelmed, and events are experienced in vivid color. You’ll get this hit in the house in which the eclipse is taking place. It also loosens the moorings of any planet it touches. You’re in the rapid transformation chute, and clues to how it’ll manifest come from the Zodiac sign of the Sun and Moon at the time. Eclipses liberate us from the status quo, and get things moving. It’s a time to trust, though the outcome may be uncertain, that all things work toward progress in the end.

New Moon Report for December 10th – Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Gemini

New Moon Report

By Jeff Jawer

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Gemini

Saturday, December 10, 6:38 am PST, 9:38 am EST

The opposition of the Moon in multi-faceted Gemini and the Sun in philosophical Sagittarius always increases mental activity and intensifies conversations. This one, though, is also a lunar eclipse meant to reduce distractions so we can focus on one task at a time. Mars in meticulous Virgo reinforces this principle with its squares to the Sun and Moon. Conflicts may arise over minor matters or system failures. Yet concentrating on the work that must be done will turn nervous energy in a productive direction and replace excessive chatter with constructive action.

Yule Meditation

Winter Solstice marks the longest night of the year. The altar is decorated with mistletoe, holly, and evergreens, such as pine, bay, rosemary, juniper, or cedar. With the solstice, the dead of winter is passing, and you can light a red, orange, or yellow candle as you wait for the coming of light. A Yule log is burned to symbolize the return of the Sun, whose coming marks the beginning of outward expression, within nature and ourselves. The best time of day to burn a Yule log, traditionally oak or pine, is at dusk.

Light your Yule log, sit before it, and try this fire meditation: Through your stomach/solar plexus, direct your consciousness into the flames. Take a deep breath and let the fire reach the extremities of your body, mind, and soul. As you breathe in, you expand the fire. As you breathe out, soot and ashes dissolve and recede back to the Mother to be recycled.

Take another breath and feel the fire increasing – strengthening, and cleansing your whole being. Listen for any messages. Direct any of the excess heat to go down your arms and legs and out through your hands and feet. See yourself as illuminating light. You may want to chant this Pagan incantation:

May the log burn,
May the Wheel turn,
May evil spurn,
May the sun return.

Your strength and power are ever growing. The fire before you is a reflection of warmth, love, and comfort. It is the true representation of the wealth, abundance, and goodness within you. Everything that you thought during this meditation can and will come to you because you have prepared the fire of action, determination, and success.

A Warm Yule and Winter

A Warm Yule and Winter

by Barbara Hedgewitch

As we approach the shortest days of the year, our house is a snug haven from the cold rain and winds of autumn. The horses’ coats are thick and full in preparation for the cold days ahead. We watch the steady retreat of the Sun. Each day, it sets just a bit earlier and farther south over the distant hill.

We spend time preparing gifts for our loved ones: homemade soap in a variety of scents and colors brightly wrapped in baskets; felt “melted” snowmen from a pattern at the craft store. We bake and decorate holiday cookies and get messy making gingerbread houses out of graham crackers and lots of frosting. I gather fir boughs and wire them to a frame, then attach a bright plaid bow. Soon a sweetly scented wreath hangs cheerily on the front door.

My husband makes his annual trek up our tall ladder, standing precariously as he strings holiday lights all along the roofline. One year, he fell off the roof as he strung lights. Fortunately for him, a potted rosebush broke his fall. It wasn’t quite so fortunate for the rosebush or its pot. This year, I remember to send a little extra protective energy his way as he heads up with hands full of lights.

He takes the children down to the bottom of our property where the former owners planted a grove of evergreen trees. They choose a fine Douglas fir for our Yule tree and triumphantly drag it up the hill to the house. As they huff and puff from the strain, the curious horses follow them.

Inside the house, I’ve prepared a place for this lovely tree, and we spend the evening stringing lights and placing ornaments on it. The scent fills the house. We discuss every ornament, for they all have meaning and memories. Some are from my childhood, and some belonged to my grandparents. Each year, the children are given one new ornament each for their own collections. We have many stars on our tree!

Finally, the Sun halts its southward journey. It seems to stand still for a day or two. On the longest night, our family holds vigil and awaits the rebirth of the Sun. The Holly King arrives and leaves gifts under the tree and in our stockings. My husband and son reenact the Oak King/Holly King duel, with the Oak King triumphing at this turn of the Wheel. We bid good-bye to the ancient Holly King, ruler of the darkening days, and celebrate the birth of the Oak King who rules the brightening days.

A few days later, we’re able to mark the slight northward passage of the setting sun behind the hill. The growing days give us hope as we enter into the coldest and stormiest time of the year. We eagerly await Imbolc and our local BrighidFest, which marks the beginning of the end of winter.

I take my spinning wheel to the BrighidFest and demonstrate how to spin wool. I have a steady stream of people, men and women, eager to try their hand at spinning. Most of them get the knack of it enough to take home a length of lumpy yarn that they spun themselves. Truly a bit of real magick!

Imbolc is traditionally the time of year to make candles. This is something I’ve never done. I think it’s time for the children and I to try our hand at this new skill. I ponder the endless possibilities: the colors, the shapes and the scents. We have a huge collection of old crayons that can be used for color, and some glitter, and I can “frost” the candles by whipping some warmish paraffin with the hand mixer. Oh my, what fun we’re going to have!

I hope you have a warm and cozy winter, filled with much love and learning.

Your Daily Horoscopes for December 9th

We ask questions so we can gather more data today, prompted by the curious Gemini Moon. But her opposition to mental Mercury makes it tough to draw any clear conclusions from what we learn because the facts don’t seem to mesh with our feelings. Although we may increase our knowledge, satisfaction is elusive and the Moon’s square to combative Mars puts us in an argumentative mood. However, being right isn’t as important as discovering the truth.
Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

You’re being pulled in several different directions today, making it very difficult to choose a course of action. Ironically, procrastination actually seems like a reasonable strategy because it enables you to keep your options open. But your window of opportunity won’t last forever, so don’t delay your decision too long. Unfortunately, your innocence can steer you wrong if you believe that adding more alternatives is now your best bet.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

If your feelings have been overwhelming recently, today’s simplicity goes a long way toward raising your spirits. But it’s not prudent to get too excited before you really know all the facts. Although you may be in an easygoing mood, there’s still plenty of work to do so you cannot afford to slack off. Even if you are distracted by the temptation of avoiding your responsibilities, it’s smarter to stay focused and finish your chores before indulging your desire to kick back and relax.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

The Moon’s current visit to your restless sign lights a fire under you, inspiring you to swing into action. But running into a small obstacle could be enough to quickly change your mind. It isn’t that you’re easily discouraged; it’s that your attention span is now even shorter than usual. You probably won’t be able to keep your thoughts on track today, yet your vigilance does make a big difference. You can still make progress if you keep bringing your focus back to the work at hand.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

Your dreams are overflowing into daylight hours as tomorrow’s Full Moon Lunar Eclipse grows nearer, making it challenging to separate your facts from fantasy. Thankfully, you draw great inspiration from your imagination, so don’t try to suppress any flights of fancy. Unfettered thoughts are like kites today; let them soar on your mental currents, but don’t forget that you are holding the string that tethers them to reality.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

You get excited by thinking about the future with the Moon visiting your 11th House of Goals, but it’s difficult to tell if your optimism is warranted. Romance may seem quite real now like a carrot dangling in front of you in order to get you moving. But whatever happens, it is a positive development if you are inspired to take care of business today so you will be ready for whatever happens next.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

Clarity is elusive today, even if you analyze all the facts before attempting to make a sensible decision based upon logic. You might be so enamored with what you are learning that you continue to collect all the relevant details that you can synthesize. It’s challenging to maintain your confidence, especially if you try to prove your point by throwing more information at the issue. Forget about trying to know what’s right; you will be better off by just following your instincts now.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You are ready to blast off today because you’re so excited about your future. Fortunately, you can use your creativity to transform your intentions into reality. However, it’s not wise to take anything for granted now or your dreams could slip away. Keep your feet on the ground and work extra hard if you want to reach your goals.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

You could be feeling anxious today with messenger Mercury and the radiant Sun in futuristic Sagittarius, because you’re not interested in the pie-in-the-sky thinking that’s inviting you to explore the wide expanses. New possibilities appear on the horizon now, yet pursuing them might be risky business — and you don’t like that. Instead of attempting to plan for the unknown, focus on the present moment so you can see your accomplishments on an ongoing basis.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Although you may be feeling stress from a business or personal relationship now, you’re sure these issues can be easily handled. However, your current dilemma stems from the fact that you might not know where your life is leading, so you could skip over a significant predicament. Remember, it’s healthier to face your concerns when they arise or they can become more complex and harder to manage later on.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

You’re a little disoriented today, making it tricky to find your balance. Your tendency is to work at a sustainable pace, while attacking each chore with great deliberation. Unfortunately, this tried and true strategy could fall short of your expectations now. Although it sounds counterintuitive, you can increase your efficiency if you stop planning and begin doing. Even if you have a few false starts, it’s still better to find your groove by trial and error.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Although your day may not unfold according to your agenda, it’s not sensible to try too hard to get things back on track today. In fact, sticking to your plan might be a total waste of time that exhausts you without rewarding you with something to show for all your hard work. Instead of driving harder, relax the reins of control but don’t squander this opportunity. Use this time to reconsider your desires and re-evaluate what’s most important to you.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Your professional goals are shrouded in mysterious clouds now, muddling your perceptions. You may feel as if your energy is low and fear that you won’t be able to finish your work on time. Unfortunately, you could worry so much now that your productivity suffers. Don’t judge yourself so harshly; you’ll gain a clearer sense of what is going on in your world after the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse tomorrow morning.

Weekend Lunar Love Horoscopes for Dec. 9 – 11

Weekend Love: Lunar Love

by Jeff Jawer

Edgy Energy

December 9 – 11

Buckle up and get ready for a wild ride with a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in jittery Gemini this weekend. The Moon flies into chatty Gemini on Thursday night, stimulating conversations but undercutting concentration. Maintaining focus isn’t easy with this lunar placement as the tumultuous emotions aroused by Saturday’s Full Moon can make you dizzy with diverse thoughts and feelings. This is definitely not the time to make major decisions unless they’ve been carefully considered and now you’re ready to pull the trigger. The atmosphere is highly charged, which can spark impulsive reactions at any moment.

Pushy Mars in orderly Virgo could bring frustration to the surface with its stressful 90-degree square to the Full Moon. Putting edgy energy into constructive projects is one way to apply this force positively. Rebellious Uranus also turns forward this weekend, waking the slumbering forces of radical change. This energetic shift adds another stick of dynamite waiting to be lit on this explosive weekend.

A lunar shift into cuddly Cancer on Sunday morning awakens feelings of vulnerability, yet this caring sign can also inspire you to help someone in need when compassion for others overcomes a sense of personal victimhood.

Uranus Direct for December 9th

Uranus Direct for December 9th

by Jeff Jawer

Uranus Direct

Friday, December 9

The coming chill of winter will not cool deep-seated desires for change when revolutionary Uranus turns direct. This planet has been retrograde since July 9, inhibiting the expression of original thoughts. Breakthroughs that have been bubbling under the surface are likely to appear more frequently during the next eight months. Some of them may be brilliantly exciting but many will be disturbing. However, transformation on personal and collective levels, no matter how destabilizing and frightening it can be now, is needed to revitalize and redirect humanity.

Daily Cosmic Calendar for Friday, December 9th

The two days before any Full Moon are a 48-hour time-period of preparation for the enlightenment that can descend into humanity and every soul who is seeking spiritual illumination. We are well within that 48-hour window of potential inspiration since the Full Moon – combined with a Total Lunar Eclipse – will happen tomorrow morning. However, there is an added dose of higher vibrations waiting to come through the cosmic pipeline and into the human kingdom on Earth as Uranus in Aries is poised to make its official station – turning from reverse to direct – tonight at 11:05PM PST. Today’s combination of curious, eager and adaptable Gemini Moon with a stationary Uranus – a key agent of revolutionary changes, flashes of genius, shock waves, surprises, and breakthroughs or breakdowns in consciousness – can be quite a handful. Think more about your exalted destiny in this lifetime and how you can exert your leadership qualities to enhance the flow of goodwill around our beleaguered home planet in the solar system. Be aware that Uranus is also stopping at the first degree of Aries – the same place it was located in back in March 2011 when the zodiacal year began with an exceedingly rare Sun-Uranus union at the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. The forces of personal liberation and freedom from tyrannical forms of authoritarian control are spreading like wildfires across nations and continents – part of a larger cycle of Uranus entering Aries every 84 years and synchronizing with tumultuous shifts on terra firma.

2012- A Witches View of Life and the ‘End’

2012- A Witches View of Life and the ‘End’

Author: Fayte Ravencraft

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have undoubtedly heard of the phenomenon that is 2012. The calendar of the ancient Mayan civilization ends on December 21, 2012, and many believe that it spells out disaster for our planet. Others think that it will be a time of transformation and spiritual rebirth. Here is the opinion of one humble Witch:

I won’t lie and say that the whole ‘2012 hysteria isn’t a little scary. I mean we have several extremely rare celestial occurrences, which also coincide with this exact date, which seem to add to the possibility of strange or catastrophic events occurring. The Earth and the Sun will be perfectly aligned with the ‘Great Rift, in the center of our galaxy, and this alignment is said to occur only every 21, 000 years or so. The Sun will also reach its solar maximum, the peak in its level of sunspot activity. Scientists have noticed recently that the Sun has been alarmingly weak for this point in the cycle — the lowest in over one-hundred years according to one article—, which may mean, in my own opinion, that when the Sun activity does pick up, it may cause a little trouble here on Earth.

The Sun’s own magnetic poles are supposed to switch in 2012 as well, which may cause further issues here on earth. These are simply the facts. Not even the most brilliant among us can truly say what they mean because it has never happened before in recorded history, and all theories are just that: theories. I encourage you to do your own research before coming to any assumption, and do not panic about the ‘approaching disaster, ” because there is not necessarily anything to be worried about. You do, I’m sure, remember the same mass hysteria about the supposed apocalypse in 2000, which never occurred.

I say all this simply so that you, the reader, may come to your own conclusions as to what the future may hold, and so that you know just what everyone is causing all the commotion about. I have listed as many Internet sources as possible so that you may further research them if you wish.

It is my personal feeling that December 21, 2012 will be a time of extraordinary power, a time when the veil between the worlds will be at its absolute thinnest. The Great Rift in the center of our galaxy has always been symbolic of the creative power of the Goddess, the ‘Great Womb, so to speak. The fact that the Sun, the symbol of the Lord, The Great Rift, a symbol of the Lady, and our Earth will be aligned will have a significant meaning magickally. There will never be a better time in our lives to perform magick of all types especially that of the divinatory type.

I do feel like it is a significant milestone in the history of human kind, and that, for those of us who are enlightened and willing, it is the perfect time to reach the maximum of our potential. Being a time of great power, it is also a time when we can make a powerful commitment to change things, both within and without, and to decided just where it is we want to go with our lives. Any energies set to work during this rare alignment are going to have extraordinary results, so why not use this as a time to heal the Earth, and with it, all of mankind. The Maya knew that this would be a time of immense power, and both feared and respected it.

We have a great thing here on our planet, and we too often take even the air we breathe for granted. The gifts we have received from the Universe have been greater than we could ever ask for, and it is time now to realize that. I am not convinced that 2012 marks the end of our world, but I certainly hope it marks a great change within the heart of mankind. We must learn to be grateful for all that we have; our lives and this astoundingly beautiful planet, or we might as well have never been here. I hate to say it, but if by some chance the world truly does end in 2012, I am just glad that I’ve had the blessing of spending this life on this beautiful planet. If it doesn’t end, I hope we all do our very best to be more appreciative; we have a good thing going on here, and we get too caught up in the daily grind of things to realize it sometimes.

While I do not feel that the world is truly about to end, I do think that we need to start living as though the end of the world were today, because it very well could be. We have never been guaranteed any amount of time here, and should view every second, the good and bad, as a gift. If we could truly follow ‘In perfect love and perfect trust, ” and have that love and trust towards ourselves and our fellow man, we would truly be making the absolute best of our time here.

As the great Henry David Thoreau said:

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”

Let us learn all that we can in this life so that when the end comes, we will have the satisfaction of knowing that we have done something that few ever have: Truly lived. If we can say in all honesty that we have lived a full life, then we cannot possibly grieve at its ending. We were lucky even to have one day here, let alone an entire life of loving, laughing and learning! The Great Cycle will continue eternally and we are all but small parts of the infinite cycle. When we embrace the entire cycle, life, death, and rebirth, then there is absolutely nothing to fear.

Nothing is ever truly destroyed, simply changed; and change, my friends, is a very good thing. Embracing change is embracing life.

Blessed Be,
Fayte Ravencraft

Your Daily Horoscopes for Thursday, December 8th

Letting go of self-limiting thoughts isn’t as easy as it sounds, but the potential rewards are big enough today to lure us out beyond our normal comfort zones. The Taurus Moon reminds us that we can take charge of our lives by controlling what we perceive. However, Sun and Mercury aspects to expansive Jupiter and nebulous Neptune can be very convincing. We are ready to lighten up and fly when the Moon breezes into flighty Gemini at 9:52 pm EST.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Enjoying yourself is good for your heart and soul, but even the most pleasurable experience can lose its attraction now if you don’t have a sense of purpose. Although there may be nothing specifically wrong today, you still might feel bored and restless. Don’t be too judgmental about your current circumstances. It’s okay if you want to retreat so you can integrate your most recent lessons before initiating another round of activity.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

You might be so rigid today with the Moon in your sign, that you miss out on opportunities that are all around you. However, you may not even realize that your determination can make you stubborn over the wrong issues now. Naturally, you have the power to maintain your position, even if others are pressuring you to change. Just remember to demonstrate your strength of character by being flexible enough to adapt to the current circumstances when it makes sense.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

You might have felt that you didn’t receive enough benefits from a flurry of recent social activities. But withdrawing to recharge your emotional batteries hasn’t been as productive as you had hoped, either. Today you may be longing for new adventures to excite your imagination. You’re ready to say yes to nearly anything that sounds like a good time. Just remember to pay attention to your physical needs so you have enough energy for the increased pace in the days ahead.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

Your friends and colleagues might not leave you alone today because they want you to join them in activities that are outside your regular routine. Although your first impulse is to turn down an invitation that would only scatter your energy, it’s worth giving it a second thought. Rather than wasting time, participating in something different now can inspire you to be more creative in aspects of your work that may have grown boring.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

New ideas are presented to you today, widening your perspective and encouraging you to reconsider a recent decision. Although you might doubt yourself, you’re not necessarily pessimistic about your future; it’s just that recent optimism may not have played out as positively as you wanted. Nevertheless, you can be realistic now without ignoring the current opportunities. However, the urgency has passed, so you don’t have to act impulsively.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You have big ideas about what the future may bring, yet it’s crucial to pay attention to the details that could derail your success. Fortunately, you’re able to make a major decision today without worrying about getting it wrong because the Moon’s current visit to practical Taurus helps you formulate concrete plans. Use your time wisely now by mapping out your strategy before things become so hectic that you can’t think clearly.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

Your anxiety eases today, allowing you to keep your thoughts to yourself. You aren’t driven to set others straight now since the current situation seems to be resolving itself. Instead of engaging in a distracting conversation, you actually want to get to the core of an important issue. Although your motives may be admirable, remember that you don’t need to say everything that you think. Be smart and think twice before sharing something that you will soon regret.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Normally, you have no problem standing up to anyone if they are being obstinate. However, someone might upset you today by successfully justifying his or her opposition to your authority. It might appear that others are just being stubborn, but their resistance could be based on a strong conviction that they have better ideas. Instead of arguing, be magnanimous and walk away; no one will win a fight now. It’s a much smarter strategy to wait until tensions settle and everyone is more flexible in their thinking.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Although you’re often a philosopher and a visionary, you don’t seem particularly interested in abstract theories today. But your apparent disinterest in ideas can be misleading with the materialistic Taurus Moon’s presence in your 6th House of Details. Your goal is to simplify everything to make any uncertainties more manageable. Focus on tangible outcomes now, for your restlessness could return tomorrow when the Moon is in changeable Gemini.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

It’s refreshing to be sailing on calmer waters today, but you’re not willing to relax completely since you sense another storm brewing. Although you may have a day or two before the next wave of cosmic stress washes into your life, it’s best to prepare now instead of waiting for the action to hit. Don’t just accept the status quo; be proactive and seek creative ways to stabilize your position before you’re in the middle of more pressure to change.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Your altruistic purpose may be to light the torch of awareness and lead the way forward, instead of watching others stumble around in the dark. But be careful since you’re moving through some pretty tricky territory now. Even your closest allies could suddenly pull back if they think you’re being overly judgmental about things you don’t understand. This isn’t the time to fake it; don’t pretend you know more than you do. Expressing your vulnerability enables your peers to trust you enough to partake in the decision-making process.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Consider the impact of your words before you open your mouth or hit send on an email today. Although you may be willing to push yourself in order to have a necessary discussion about a sensitive topic, your feelings might not translate easily into verbal or written language now. Nevertheless, you can miss your chance if you worry about getting every single nuance exactly right. Remember, your current task is to bring the conversation back to the most crucial issues.

Moon Signs in Everyday Life

Moon Signs in Everyday Life

Make the most of the Moon’s journey

All eyes are on the Moon as we near the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Gemini on December 10. But how much do you know about the Moon and how it affects you? Changing signs every two and a quarter days, the Moon is the fastest moving astrological “planet.”

The Moon represents our emotions, and as it travels through the different horoscope signs, our moods follow suit. We feel best and operate most effectively when we’re cooperating with the energy of the Moon, as indicated by the horoscope sign it’s in at any given time.

Monthly power times

Pay special attention to when the Moon is in the same sign as your Sun sign — these few days of each month are your power times! The tides are flowing in your direction, so you’ll feel more confident and energized, and people are more likely to respond to you positively.

So, if you’re planning to invite someone special out on a date, ask for a raise, go on a job interview or any other task requiring self-assertion and risk-taking, these are the days to go for it.

On the flip side, when the Moon is in the sign opposite to your Sun sign, keep a low profile. (If you’re not sure which sign is opposite, just count six signs away from yours.) Catch up on rest, and do for others rather than expecting things to go your way. Plan accordingly — this is not the time to push it and try to get ahead.

Discover how to make the most of the Moon’s visit to each horoscope sign:

Aries Moon

Get physical! The first horoscope sign calls for action and movement. Go for a run or hike, dance, work out at the gym or find some other way to let off steam. Tempers can rise under this fiery Moon, so find healthy outlets for expression — physical and/or creative. This Moon can light a fire under you to start putting your ideas into action, so take a risk in the direction of your desires.

Taurus Moon

Slow down and take time to nurture your body and the planet. This sensual and earthy sign invites you to appreciate the physical world and the realm of the senses. Walk through the woods, work in the garden, get a massage or play soothing music. This tends to be a mellow, restful and reflective Moon — a time to practice simply being.

Gemini Moon

Call your friends, catch up on emails and chat with the neighbors while the Moon visits the airy sign of the Messenger. Your mind is especially active, even hyper-active, so give it something to stew on. This is an ideal time for taking (or teaching) a class, learning something new and exploring multiple perspectives. Follow your curiosity and keep an open mind.

Cancer Moon

Curl up on the couch with a good book and a cup of tea during this homebody Moon (Cancer is, afterall, the Moon’s home sign). As a sensitive Water sign, the Crab calls for tuning in to your inner world. When you give yourself permission to feel and express your emotions, you’re more likely to avoid the down side of this Moon — crabbiness. Cook a nourishing meal, perhaps inviting a close friend or family member for dinner.

Leo Moon

This fiery Moon wants to play and celebrate. Let your inner child take the lead and do something spontaneous that serves no purpose beyond having fun. The Lion rules the heart, inspiring romance and passion — an ideal time for getting decked out in your most glamorous attire and hitting the town. Creative energy abounds — express yourself!

Virgo Moon

Attend to the nitty gritty details of daily life when the Moon enters this sign of service. Catching up on household chores, organizing the closet, balancing your checkbook — these mundane tasks might sound like a bore, but you feel so much better when you stop procrastinating and get the job done. People tend to be more critical and fault-finding than usual, so pay attention to the little things.

Libra Moon

The Moon in the horoscope sign of the Scales brings attention to what’s out of balance, inviting you to create more harmony in your relationships, environment and inner world. Libra is ruled by Venus, the goddess of love, beauty and the arts. Enhance your appearance with a new hair style or clothes, and plan to socialize. Cultural events and creative activities are especially recommended.

Scorpio Moon

Invite your inner witch or wizard to come out of hiding during this magical Moon, a prime time for casting spells and performing rituals. You’re more tuned into both the invisible realm and the dark side now — including shadowy emotions that require an outlet. Share your deepest feelings with someone you trust. This is not a time to party hearty with the crowds — plan an intimate date instead.

Sagittarius Moon

When the Moon visits the horoscope sign of the Archer, you’re ready for adventure, exploration and expansion. These days are perfect for travel. If you can’t take a trip in the physical world, broaden your intellectual and spiritual horizons by attending a lecture or workshop. Restlessness is common, as your mental arrows shoot out in multiple directions — plan for lots of activity, movement and socializing.

Capricorn Moon

Now is the optimal time to accomplish any ambitious projects requiring hard work, perseverance and pragmatism. For best results, mimic the Mountain Goat — move slowly, cautiously and deliberately as you reach for the top. Don’t let the heaviness and somber tone of this Moon get you down — if you stay focused on your plans and goals, you feel energized and productive.

Aquarius Moon

You’re in the mood for networking, connecting with friends and all group activities when the Moon calls on community-minded Aquarius. Your intuition is heightened, inviting flashes of insight that help you to see your life from a higher perspective. If you’re feeling stuck, this revolutionary Moon wants to liberate you from old ways of thinking and inspire you to make changes that enhance your sense of freedom.

Pisces Moon

During this sensitive and squishy Moon, retreat, rest and reflection are recommended. Your dreams are more active than usual, so pay attention — they may have important information for you. The sign of the Fish activates your imagination and fantasies, offering an ideal opportunity for creative expression, especially music, dance, painting and poetry.

Candle Cleansing and Consecration

Candle Cleansing and Consecration

Cleansing a candle removes any psychic debris or residual energy, think of a cleansing as a spiritual ‘reset’ button.

You can cleanse a candle using any of the following methods:

Pass it through incense smoke
Allow it to bath in the light of the moon overnight
Bury the candle in sea salt, and leave it for a day

Consecration is when you reprogram the tool, in other words – you tell the item what it’s purpose is:

Hold your projective (writing) hand over the candle and imagine that white light is beaming from your palm, and into the candle – say the following:
“I consecrate you, candle of wax,
to cleanse you and purify you,
so that you may serve me in my magickal workings.
In the name of the Mother Goddess and Father God
you are consecrated.”

After this you need to charge it, hold the candle with both hands, and say:

“I charge you by the power of the Ancients: the Goddess and the God
by the powers of the Sun, the Moon and the Stars
by the elements of Air, Fire, Water and Earth
May you serve me well.
So Mote it Be.”

The candle is now ready for use.
