A Molten Galaxy Einstein Ring

Image Credit: ESA/Hubble & NASAS. JhaProcessing: Jonathan Lodge

Explanation: It is difficult to hide a galaxy behind a cluster of galaxies. The closer cluster’s gravity will act like a huge lens, pulling images of the distant galaxy around the sides and greatly distorting them. This is just the case observed in the featured image recently re-processed image from the Hubble Space Telescope. The cluster GAL-CLUS-022058c is composed of many galaxies and is lensing the image of a yellow-red background galaxy into arcs seen around the image center. Dubbed a molten Einstein ring for its unusual shape, four images of the same background galaxy have been identified. Typically, a foreground galaxy cluster can only create such smooth arcs if most of its mass is smoothly distributed — and therefore not concentrated in the cluster galaxies visible. Analyzing the positions of these gravitational arcs gives astronomers a method to estimate the dark matter distribution in galaxy clusters, as well as infer when the stars in these early galaxies began to form.

There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The Moon is in Virgo.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

What a positive way to begin your week! You’re full of original ideas related to your job and possibly your health. Discussions with an authority figure at home about potential repairs are likely. Lord knows, you’re keen to initiate things! (Issues with a pet might surprise.)

You’re ready to party today! Accept invitations to socialize. Reach out and interact with others. Enjoy playful activities with kids, sports events, picnics, barbecues and fun encounters. Interaction with the entertainment world and the hospitality industry will delight.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

This is the perfect day to entertain at home. Be ready to serve “best in fridge” because you might impulsively entertain; or surprise company might drop by. Meanwhile, someone in the family might have unexpected news. This is also an exciting day for real-estate transactions.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Today is full of some surprises, so stay on your toes. It’s an upbeat, positive day; however, you are so full of spontaneous energy, some kind of distraction could make this an accident-prone day. Therefore, pay attention to what you say and do. Nevertheless, this is a fun-loving, playful day!

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

This is a great day to schmooze with others, especially artistic, creative people. However, keep an eye on your money and assets because something surprising could impact your wealth. For example, you might find money; you might lose money. Protect what you own. If shopping, keep your receipts!

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This is a great way to begin your week! The Moon is in your sign, which gives you a bit of extra good luck over all the other signs. Furthermore, everyone is upbeat and positive today. Nobody wants to work – everyone wants to play! Warm exchanges with friends and groups are gratifying.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

People admire you today! You look good in their eyes. You can take advantage of this and go after what you want. Don’t hesitate to ask a boss or parent for a favour because very likely, things will go your way. Travel for pleasure if possible. Enjoy meeting people who are “different.”

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

This is a lovely, playful day! Your involvement with a friend or a group will be unusual in some way today. You feel empowered and popular. You might also meet someone today who is different and intriguing. Stay light on your feet because there is a fast-changing, playing field today.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

You might surprise others today by saying or doing something unexpected. You might take the helm and run the show? (You do feel more independent than usual, that’s for sure.) With Venus opposite your sign now, all your relations will flow smoothly. Enjoy your day!

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Travel plans might suddenly change today or be delayed. Alternatively, you might suddenly have to travel when you didn’t expect to do so. This is an exciting, upbeat day. Expect to meet people who are “different” from you. Sports events, social outings and fun with children will delight.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Keep your eyes open today because something unexpected could impact banking details or issues related to shared property, taxes and debt. Keep in mind that this includes inheritances. Fortunately, you have lots of energy to work and be efficient today!

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

This is a lovely, upbeat social day! Enjoy interactions with others. In fact, expect a few surprises. Perhaps an unexpected invitation? Make plans for lunch, coffee get-togethers, a fun Happy Hour, sports events and playful activities with kids. Enjoy your day!

If Your Birthday Is Today

Ballet dancer Francesca Haywood (1992) shares your birthday today. You are warm, caring, loving person who is close to your loved ones. It’s important to you that there is peace and harmony within the family because discord creates stress for you. Good news! This is your year for success, awards, promotions and acknowledgement. It’s your turn to take a bow!

Strawberry Supermoon Over Devil’s Saddle

Image Credit & Copyright: Lorenzo Busilacchi

Explanation: Near the horizon the full moon often seems to loom large, swollen in appearance by the famous Moon illusion. But time-lapse image sequences demonstrate that the Moon’s angular size doesn’t really change as it rises or sets. Its color does, though. Recording a frame about every 60 seconds, this image also shows how red the Sun can look while low on the horizon. The featured montage was taken from CagliariSardiniaItaly, the day after June’s Strawberry Moon, a full moon dubbed a supermoon due to its slightly larger-than-usual angular size. This Strawberry Supermoon is seen rising behind the Devil’s Saddle, a mountain named for the unusual moon-sized dip seen just to the right of the rising moon. A shrinking line-of-sight through planet Earth’s dense and dusty atmosphere shifted the moonlight from strawberry red through honey-colored and paler yellowish hues. That change seems appropriate for a northern June Full Moon also known as the Strawberry or Honey Moon. A Thunder Supermoon — the third of four supermoons in 2022 — will occur later this month.

The Star-Spangled Banner Song’s History

“The Star-Spangled Banner” is the national anthem of the United States. By the time the song officially became the country’s anthem in 1931, it had been one of America’s most popular patriotic tunes for more than a century. The anthem’s history began the morning of September 14, 1814, when an attorney and amateur poet named Francis Scott Key watched U.S. soldiers—who were under bombardment from British naval forces during the War of 1812—raise a large American flag over Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland.

All Signs

This week generates a wide range of moods that swing from one extreme to the other. Hopeful inspiration and innovative ideas to stubbornness and pigheaded points of view. Oy! Nevertheless, there will be a fun-filled, buoyant energy to most of this week, especially Monday! (Good news for those celebrating July 4th.) This week Mars enters Taurus and Mercury enters Cancer. That’s a shift! We can expect an increased interest in food, restaurants and gardening. (Yum, yum.) Mercury in Cancer will also encourage activity at marinas, and a desire to tinker with engines. Boats or cars. (Obviously, these jobs require basic motor skills.)

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Things are going well for you now, and will continue to go well this summer because lucky Jupiter is in your sign for the first time in 12 years. (Not too shabby!) Mars has just entered your Money House, which means you’re going to be tempted to make some big expenditures. Meanwhile, Venus will sweeten your words with everyone. In fact, it will heighten your appreciation of your daily world. (That’s nice.) Meanwhile, both the Sun and Mercury will channel your focus on home and family, especially to areas that need attention – home improvements and home repairs. (“This again? I just fixed it seven years ago!”)

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Mars moves into your sign this week to stay for seven weeks. This will boost your energy and make you work hard to further your own interests. You will also assert yourself among others because you want to show the world what you can do. You will be more of a fighter for your own rights than usual. Your physical energy will be high, which is why physical sports and outdoor exercise will be a wise choice, in case you need to blow off any pent-up steam building up within you. You can really use this energy boost to your advantage! Meanwhile, Venus will attract money to you. It will also tempt you to buy beautiful things for yourself and loved ones. (Taurus loves antiques and fine things.)

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Fair Venus continues in your sign for the next two weeks making you charming and diplomatic with everyone. This is a good time for you to make peace with others. It’s also an excellent time to relax because Venus always ranks pleasure above work. Take advantage of this influence and shop for wardrobe goodies for yourself. Meanwhile, this week, Mercury joins the Sun in your Money House, which means you will be more concerned with business and commercial affairs than usual. You might negotiate about money, property or possessions. You might also feel the need to define your values to someone else.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

The next few weeks are the perfect time for you to formulate goals and start to actively pursue them. Why? For starters, this is the only time all year the Sun is in your sign. (This boosts your confidence and helps you to make a great impression on others.) Furthermore, because it’s your birthday month, you have that sense of “new beginnings”. Plus, Mercury is in your sign as well, which make you chatty and full of lots of ideas! Meanwhile, physical activity with friends, especially athletics, will be an excellent choice for you because Mars likes to be active. In particular, Mars likes to win!

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Both the Sun and Mercury are hiding in your chart, which means, you are happy to take a backseat and “hide” yourself. (Ideally, in luxurious comfort with good food and drink. Let’s be real.) Nevertheless, countering this desire to seek peace and quiet, fiery Mars has moved to the top of your chart, and this arouses your ambition! In addition, Venus has just moved into the part of your chart that heightens warm interactions with friends and groups. So, in one way, you want to hide in comfort. Yet at other times, you want to enjoy group settings, conferences and classes because relations with others are cozy and warm! Go figure. Life is full of contradictions.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Your popularity continues! You are encountering younger people more than usual in your immediate circle of friends; and you’re keen to exchange ideas and be in the company of others, especially groups. At the same time, your interest in making goals is strong now. You’re giving a lot of thought to your life expectations. No doubt this will include travel plans because you have a strong urge to get outta Dodge! This is why you are looking for ways to travel this summer because you need a change of scenery! Although you might have high hopes of distant travel and thrilling destinations, ironically, you just need a change. You don’t have to go far to get a change. (But you do have to get dressed and get out of your home.)

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Both the Sun and Mercury are at the top of your chart, which makes you look good! Mercury will encourage you to make plans about your professional life, which might mean new training or new studies. You’re also interested to talk to bosses or employers to advance your position. Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, you want to travel. Oh yes! You love schmoozing in great hotels and resorts with excellent room service. (Your idea of roughing it is when the air-conditioning is weak.) Disputes about inheritances and shared property might occur. Fortunately, because you look so good to people in power, you’re in an excellent position for a favourable outcome. (Use what you got.)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

You want to travel or do something to get a change of scenery because you’re hungry for adventure! (Some of you will find new studies rewarding and stimulating as well because the discovery of new ideas and new information will be thrilling.) Do make note that if you have disputes with others about inheritances or shared property, you will have the upper hand and the outcome will be favourable to you. In fact, gifts, goodies and favours from others will come your way. Personally, romance is very passionate right now. Not only passionate but deeply affectionate. This is a good thing because with Mars opposite your sign for the next six weeks, you might be irritated with others. (Ouch.) Patience is your best ally.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Lucky you! Mars just moved into your House of Work, which means you’re gung-ho to get things done! This is why you will throw your energy into working hard, and why you will be able to defer tomorrow’s pleasure for today’s work. (I’m impressed.) Nevertheless, fair Venus is opposite your sign, which is the best place for it to be for all of your relationships – love affairs, friendships and professional partnerships. This means that while you are so keen to work, at the same time, you get along well with others. They might even help you! This is perfect because you want to do some outdoor entertaining, as well as enjoy sports events and playful activities with kids. It’s all coming together for you!

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Because Mars is now in your fellow Earth sign (where it will stay until late August) your energy is getting a lovely boost! In particular, you will seek out ways to be playful and sportive because you want to have fun and pleasure! Expect to socialize more as you enjoy entertaining diversions, sports events and playful times with kids. This is the perfect time for a vacation! Even romance will be hot and sexy. This is appropriate because with the Sun and Mercury now opposite your sign, you are focused more than usual on partnerships and close relationships. This will help you to discuss matters with greater objectivity, especially how to improve the relationship. Even your health will improve!

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

You are still eager to get organized and work hard to accomplish as much as possible. In fact, now that Mercury has changed signs, you will be more hands-on than ever – digging in to get things done! Small wonder because Mars is stirring things up on the home front. Visiting guests, relatives and family get-togethers will create increased activity where you live, and this demands your attention. Meanwhile, you’re happy to entertain others. In fact, you’re up for good times! Nevertheless, enjoying a vacation, as well as entertaining others, takes work, energy and planning. Fortunately, you now have the energy to make this happen! In addition, you’re in a positive frame of mind, which is the key to every successful operation.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Starting this week, you are cranking up your efforts to have a good time. You want to party! You want to enjoy vacations. You want to have time off. This is why you will delight in sports events and enjoy playful activities with kids. Your ability to communicate to others will be forceful and to the point, which is good news for those of you who sell, write, teach and act. Your days will get busier. You will entertain more at home as well as redecorate your digs because you want to make everything to come together! And you want to express your creative energy! And of course, an increase to your earnings and wealth is another reason to be happy! How suite it is.

A Thought for Today
