Your Daily Cosmic Calendar for May 18th

Finally, after the Sturm und Drang of the last two days – concerning solar and planetary mischief-making – the cosmos calms down considerably. Stress and strain are almost nowhere to be found – except for the fact that the 15 or so sky patterns that caused the ruckus are still reverberating with echoes of their former selves in the shadow regions of our collective consciousness. In the meantime, the void Aries Moon that began yesterday is eliminated at 3:04AM PDT when the Moon reaches the sign of its exaltation – Taurus. Tend to your garden while also enjoying cooking, baking and other natural hobbies that please the senses. Get back into your exercise routines with a flourish. Your intuition concerning investment planning may be right on the money since the Moon approaches its monthly union with Vesta (forming precisely at 7:51PM PDT). Communication channels appear to be clearer than usual – thanks to the Moon in parallel to Mercury (7:28PM PDT). Mercury is also moving at its top speed – over 2 degrees per day – and this quick movement by the ancient Messenger of the Gods will last until June 7. Mercury with wings equates with a more rapid-thought process and urge to speak your mind with authority. Topping off the day is a vitality-booster (physically and emotionally) as the Moon trines Pluto (9:47PM PDT) and Mars (11:33PM PDT). These two lunar aspects actually create a temporary grand triangle in earth signs involving the Moon, Mars and Pluto. Be prepared for a mega-dose of cosmic energy happening this weekend as the Sun opposes Juno (tomorrow) and an Annular Solar Eclipse occurs on Sunday.

Your Daily Cosmic Calendar for Thursday, May 10

Make steady progress in business and investment matters under the favorable energy-field of the Moon in Capricorn in trine to the Sun in Taurus (5:04AM PDT). This is quickly followed by an equally auspicious and optimism-generating Moon-Jupiter trine in the same earth signs (8:58AM PDT). What could land you in hot water is a Mercury-Mars parallel (9:29AM PDT). This sky pattern can go either way – to give you a boost of emotional and mental vitality or push you to act too fast, without carefully thinking of the potential consequences. Before you know it, the Moon in Capricorn squares Saturn in Libra (12:12PM PDT) – starting a void uncertainty zone that lasts until 10:04PM PDT. During this 9+ hour twilight zone, complete odd jobs and old ventures, but don’t initiate bold, new plans. Have fun with photography, film or video work, poetry and painting, improvisational music and dance while Mercury forms a supportive, 60-degree rapport with Neptune (3:00PM PDT). This may also be a good time to enhance your spiritual studies. Your productivity quotient can reach new heights during the void lunar cycle as Mercury forms a strong parallel with Ceres (8:53PM PDT). Once the Moon enters the universal air sign of Aquarius (10:04PM PDT), start thinking more about joining forces with other like-minded souls in global and humanitarian efforts. Write down overnight dreams as they could be precognitive and tune you into future events as Mercury forms another engaging contact with Neptune, this time a contra-parallel that becomes exact at 5:04AM PDT tomorrow morning.

New Moon Report for May 8th – Mercury in Taurus

Mercury in Taurus

Tuesday, May 8, 10:15 pm PDT, Wednesday, May 9, 1:15 am EDT

The speedy messenger’s presence in this fixed sign slows down thinking and concentrates minds. We can focus on the basics now, helping to put ideas on a more realistic foundation. Mercury in Taurus isn’t the most creative position for this intellectual planet because it’s rooted in facts and eschews fantasy. It may also take additional time to digest new concepts that require thorough chewing before we’re ready to swallow. Trust, though, can be built with down-to-earth conversations that are grounded in simplicity and expressed with clarity. Changing others’ minds is challenging, particularly if people feel pressured to do so. Encountering resistance to new ideas from individuals or in our own minds is best overcome by subtly working around conflict rather than trying to force issues. A calm voice and easygoing approach connects more effectively than heated conversations.

Daily Cosmic Calendar for Wednesday, May 2

Your inner scholar is ready to shine and get straight A’s in a field of study close to your heart – thanks to a harmonious trine in earth signs from the Moon in Virgo to expansive Jupiter in Taurus (3:22AM PDT). While you are excelling on the higher educational track, the Moon jumps ship and begins a more abrasive square pattern to Venus (3:59AM PDT) – a frictional tie that also starts a void lunar uncertainty zone that lasts until 7:05PM PDT when the Moon enters airy Libra. If you are a newcomer to reading this calendar, please realize that void lunar cycles are opportunities to finish old business on a high note. However, you don’t want to initiate bold, new ventures because they could fizzle out or not evolve into the successful achievements you are envisioning. Once the Moon is happily moving into Libran territory (7:05PM PDT), the best game plan is to improve the quality of your primary partnerships while also exploring various artistic media that can develop into favorite hobbies. On Tuesday, the Moon activated a potentially revelatory grand triangle with Ceres and Pluto. Now we have Ceres and Pluto actually making their own, official trine of 120-degrees in earth signs (11:28PM PDT). Be as productive as possible in your main fields of expertise as Wednesday morphs into Thursday.

The Zodiac Sign Taurus April 20 – May 20

Taurus

The Bull

April 20 – May 20

You aren’t necessarily like a Bull in a ring with a toreador. You could be more like peace-loving Ferdinand, seeking the gentle meadows filled with flowers, sunshine and natural beauty. It’s only your stubbornness that can make you angry enough to charge at someone who is disturbing your peace.

You Bulls are noted for your determination. You get to where you are going, not because you are exceptionally fast or clever, but because you will not be distracted from your goals. Your need for stability and simplicity can motivate you to create a life for yourself that is quite functional, though it might seem boring to someone else. But you aren’t interested in taking unnecessary risks that can put your solid footing in jeopardy.

Your motto might be “Take care of the senses and everything else will take care of itself.” It may be that your attraction to material things is less about the objects themselves than it is about the pleasure they bring to your senses. Comfortable living and working space is important to you, along with nice linens, clothing, food and music. And, as one of the most practical signs, your outlook on life is usually quite sensible. As you plod along in life, getting what you need in order to survive, don’t forget to look at the beauty that is beyond the material world of material possessions.

Element: Earth

Earth signs are naturally practical. In this lifetime we are bound to Earth. There is no escaping the reality around us. The Earth is about as real as it gets; it can be felt, weighed and it has substance. Accordingly, the earth signs base their life on what is real, not what is imagined. Sensation is valued over thoughts or feelings. Earth signs live with their feet on the ground. Others seek their advice because of their basic sensibility. For earth signs, seeing is believing.

The earth of Taurus is simple and sensible. It’s about getting back to basics. This is about working the earth in a garden or about having the tools that we need in order to build.

House: Second

The Second House symbolizes those things that are of value to us. Personal possessions are within this domain, as is our money. Anything having personal value is associated with the Second House. It also represents those things we value that are not things. When you think about what is most important to you — your own values — you are indeed thinking about your Second House.

Key Planet: Venus

Venus is the planet of love and desire. She is in charge of romance and beauty. But Venus isn’t only about physical love; she’s also symbolic of the ideal love. When we see a beautiful painting or other work or art, Venus is present. She is the beauty of a rose as much as she is the attraction we have to someone we love. As the key planet of Taurus, Venus is sensual and simple. We fulfill the senses with beauty and life is good.

Greatest Strength:

Your sensible outlook on life

Possible Weakness:

Accepting less than you can achieve

Brace yourself for fast talk and even speedier thoughts

Tarotcom Staff on the topics of mercury, astrology, aries

Mercury is the sprightly planet that impacts how we think and how we express ourselves. Are you ready for fast talk and even speedier thoughts? Brace yourself: Mercury is moving back into always-on-the-go Aries on Monday, April 16 at 3:42 p.m. (PDT) / 6:42 p.m. (EDT), lifting us out of a dreamy daze in how we perceive the world and people around us. As Mercury transitions from peaceful Pisces to bold and brash Aries, our minds and our words will get less poetic and more action-oriented.

Aries is a Fire sign known for being impulsive, so be careful what you say! Comments might come out of your mouth before they’re fully formed, giving them a tinge of sarcasm or even an edge of insult — whether you intend them to or not. And even if we think we know the full impact of our words, there’s the danger that we haven’t thought far enough ahead about the effect they’ll have on those we care about.

At the same time, Aries is the first zodiac sign — literally, a true leader in Astrology. Our thoughts and speech could become more courageous, yes, but more than that, this pioneering sign could make us more innovative, too. It will be easier to think of fresh, brilliant solutions to nagging problems as we receive rushes of fresh inspiration. And with rebellious Uranus in Aries, too, we can really expect this innovative energy to fly off the charts.

But catch this inspiration as fast as it comes, because Aries is not known for being patient. In fact, it may be more difficult to complete everyday tasks if they lack the flavor of excitement.

Here are some tips to embrace the best parts of Mercury in Aries:

Don’t…

…get too caught up in the excitement of the moment; reconsider any commitments you’re about to make.
…allow yourself to get trapped in an argument, because neither you nor your friends or lover will be in the most logical place to resolve an issue.
…jump into too many new things at once.

Do…

…enjoy the fresh perspective you’ll experience when the no-holds-barred warrior sign takes control of your mental life!
…apply your taste for adventure and desire for new experiences to shake up your daily routine.

Your Daily Cosmic Calendar for April 15

As the recent Pluto and Mars stations both lessen in influence, another challenge appears on the horizon. The annual Sun-Saturn opposition – from Aries to Libra (11:27AM PDT) – should be approached with care and caution. Strive to remove worry, self-doubt and fear from your mind and heart. There can be progress on the partnership front if you are honest with yourself, and attempt to address impediments to relationship harmony with logic and common sense. What favors a breakthrough are the Moon making a supportive, 60-degree alliance with the Sun (3:43PM PDT), Juno trine Uranus in fire signs (6:19PM PDT), and Ceres making a productive, 60-degree rapport with Neptune (6:49PM PDT). However, the Moon enters a void lunar cycle at 3:43PM PDT (lasting until 10:39PM PDT) while a Vesta-Chiron 45-degree skirmish (3:55PM PDT) adds a note of conflict to the overall proceedings. The bottom line is you need to take today’s Sun-Saturn encounter seriously and – if possible – put legal matters and heavy-duty business concerns on the back burner. Once the Moon leaves void status by entering Pisces (10:39PM PDT), express your feelings with greater compassion and empathy as Sunday shifts into Monday. Write down out-of-the-body visions and Technicolor dreams as the lunar orb makes its monthly union with Neptune at 3:27AM PDT tomorrow.

Your Daily Cosmic Calendar for April 14th

This is a key time in this calendar to remind you that solar and planetary alignments from yesterday or even a few days ago are not entirely gone. The universe doesn’t wave a magic wand to make Friday’s contentious forces disappear. Instead, they are pushed below the surface, so to speak, but they may still have enormous power to throw you off-course. For example, yesterday’s halt by the red planet is still rippling through the ethers and that is why you should carefully review Friday’s message. In addition, realize that Mars won’t go into another retrograde cycle until March 1, 2014. In the meantime, antique hunters may rejoice a little since the Moon in Aquarius and Venus in Gemini form a flowing trine in air signs (8:11AM PDT) while Venus also makes an off-kilter, 150-degree link to Pluto (9:53AM PDT). If you are into research and in-depth studies – in the arts, crafts and realm of valuable items of historic value – then you may be able to tweak this Venus-Pluto connection to your advantage. On the other hand, Venus and Pluto in a 150-degree relationship could be detrimental for love birds and courageous souls trying to demonstrate their affections to a dear one. The Moon contra-parallel to Mars (12:30PM PDT) reinforces the notion that romance may be rather tricky to enhance today. And while one or two alignments tomorrow might encourage heart-felt expression, Sunday also brings with it the annual Sun-Saturn opposition – a polarity that is usually more frustrating than exhilarating. Nevertheless, with the Moon still transiting eccentric Aquarius, learning more about the Ageless Wisdom teachings, UFOs, ETs, astrology, numerology, ley lines and planetary vortexes may be one way to stay high as a kite.

Your Daily Cosmic Calendar for April 13th

Easy does it! Imagine that you are entering the dangerous terrain of a sworn enemy. What do you do to survive the battle? Right now you need to deal with the Last Quarter Sun-Moon Phase (activating 24 degrees of Aries and Capricorn) at 3:51AM PDT. Cutting through obstacles – mentally and even spiritually – is part of the essence of every solar-lunar connection where the Moon is waning and 90-degrees from the Sun. You also have to be on your toes due to the Moon in Capricorn entering a 4+ hour void lunar uncertainty zone – stretching from 10:06AM PDT to 2:49PM PDT. Finish odd jobs during this void-of-course time-period. Once the Moon enters the universal air sign of Aquarius (2:49PM PDT), you may think that team sports, group projects, community activities and working on global causes close to your heart will meet with celestial approval. However, all day long the red planet is sending out emotional sparks, darts and mini-explosions as Mars halts its retrograde skid at 4 degrees of Virgo and makes a station there at 8:54PM PDT. Ouch! Any time Mars is motionless, you want to strive for serenity and peace of mind. Keep your distance from temperamental individuals and avoid projecting angry feelings on well-meaning friends, colleagues and loved ones. All Mars themes – energy and passion, emotional expression, ego-drive and assertion, independent action, courage and leadership skills, aggression, anger, volatility, fevers and inflammatory behavior – are emphasized today and over the weekend. If you can direct Mars energy into industrious work projects – where organization, order and efficiency are number one priorities – then you will be flowing well with the Virgo component of the red planet’s stationary vibrations.

A physician without a knowledge of Astrology
has no right to call himself a physician.” ~ Hippocrates, the father of Astromedicine

Why Do I Need to Know My Cat’s Birth Sign?

You don’t need to know your cat’s birth sign. You can simply select the sign that suits his personality best to select his sun sign. Besides just knowing the breed of your cat or perhaps guessing at its mixed genetic makeup, the personalities of cats, especially among young kittens, in a litter tend to be quite similar, even when taking into consideration differences in sex and pecking order, depending on what time of year they are born. Therefore some cats and kittens are often quite typical of their sun signs.

Many moons ago, wise women used to say that kittens born in the spring were the super healthy ones, whilst cats born in winter (out of proverbial kitten season which is usually spring/summer) would be weaker and more prone to upper respiratory problems, which is one of the biggest problems for kittens these days, as they chill easily and are highly susceptible to viruses, often failing to thrive in the cold winter months. However for an Astrologer, these similar personality traits could be explained by the fact that they were born close together in time and therefore at least share the same sun sign. It is the reason an Aries kitten is quite a bit different from a Pisces kitten. To learn more about astrology for cats and natural cat care, see my book, The Complete Guide to Holistic Cat Care: An Illustrated Guide, with Jean Hofve, DVM, which offers and appendix on Astromedicine for Cats.

Whilst it is certainly true that a serious astrological practitioner would create a natal horoscope based on the exact time and place of the kitten’s birth, which could be 100 pages in length or more is not necessary for our purposes. Astrology, when practiced seriously, is an exacting exercise. However here, I am simply sharing some broad strokes of the astrological sun sign pen in an attempt to bring you and your cats closer together, by having you take a close look at his or her personality.

Note: In the case of Aries, we use the masculine pronoun not because it is known as an aggressive sign, but because the pronouns alternate around the 12 signs of the zodiac.

I have always felt that the care, feeding, and spiritual well-being of our cats is a huge responsibility and should be taken seriously. Close scrutiny of your cats personality, however you achieve it, can be of great benefit if we learn something constructive about them from their astrological archetype. If you don’t know your cat’s birthday or exact age, you may choose a sun sign that seems to match your cat’s personality and therefore celebrate the day you adopted this precious little being or choose the sign closest in characteristic likeness.

Let’s just have some fun with this and keep in mind the personality types for the Aries cat might just apply to other species as well.

ARIES is the first sign of the zodiac and it represents birth. Aries affects the cerebral nervous system as well as the spinal cord, sensory nerves, pituitary, face, and lower jaw. The planet Mars stimulates the cells, influencing diseases relating to inflammation, fever, and organ lesions. There may be a predisposition to liver problems. An elementary quality of dry heat is associated with this cardinal fire sign. Since Aries is prone to excess, he may be overweight, therefore you never want to diet this or any cat due to liver complications which can occur from weight loss accompanied by inflammation. A condition called Hepatic Lipidosis can occur when cats lose body fat too rapidly and can be fatal. You can learn all about the species-specific method of feeding cats that are in truth obligate carnivores in my Care2 post on homemade food for cats. Cats fed that natural raw food diet don’t get fat! They are meant to be lithe and lean.

If we were painters, we might want to paint the Aries cat red, as red is the color for fire signs and Leo and Sagittarius are also fire signs. My husband Nazim Artist is a painter and he has painted cats both large and small in vivid red hues (see image accompanying this post). The personality of an Aries cat is also said to be “on fire” as they can be restless, pace a lot and if left to their own devices be always “on the prowl.”

Aries cats like to play hide and seek and can often be found posing like little crouching tigers, ready to pounce on their toys in a mock hunt-and-capture scenario. You can almost see the wheels turning in their heads as they lock onto their intended victim. They seem to be strategizing their next chess move with something they have selected for prey, which might even be a scrap of paper rolled into a little ball.

The Aries cat, in his mind, even when from a large litter, is still an only child. Strong and assertive, he makes his needs known when he’s hungry or just wants your attention. When he wants something, he’ll get it for sure. He often violates the Star Trek famous “prime directive” as he thinks he is the Captain Kirk of his own universe where you are only one of the pieces on his chess board! “No” has absolutely no meaning to the Aries cat!

When he’s awake, everyone’s awake. If he doesn’t answer when you call, it’s not that he doesn’t know his name—the Mars-ruled cat is self-absorbed—he’ll get to you when it’s convenient for him.

Give your Aries cat a tall cat tree to climb so he can rule from on high so that he will always have something available to conquer — from this high vantage point he can leap to even greater heights. That’s why sometimes you look but you don’t see this little “Ninja.” They can, however, be your home security watch cat and or guardian as they also like to protect but never serve.

It’s easy to fall in love with an Aries kitten as his charms and naiveté linger into old age. He’s captivating, cunning and hard to resist. He nearly always gets his own way with people and other animals. He’s also fearless and somehow always able to land on his feet.

The old motto “If at first you don’t succeed” fits the Aries Cat to a T. As one of the three fire signs, the Aries cat’s sunny disposition will cheer you in your darkest hours. Though he’s not usually a lazy cat, the Aries cat does seek warmth and lies in your lap or by your side when you sleep. If you are home in bed with a cold, he will lie on your chest in order for his purr to help heal your heart chakra.

An un-neutered Aries, or “whole male” cat is a tyrant and is the eternal night stalker and he can get into brutal fights, as exemplified by the Greco-Roman god of war, Mars (Aries). Aries cats can be so aggressive that the chances of his becoming seriously injured or dying in a cat fight are very high. Keep Aries (and all other cats) indoors and please spay or neuter them when your veterinarian recommends. Many of the aggression problems encountered in Aries cats disappear after this procedure, so don’t think for a moment you are doing your cats a favor by not having them altered. We don’t want to be part of the pet overpopulation problem, we want to be part of the solution! All cats are far more comfortable with the overwhelming urge they have to fight for territory and procreate calmed down and they then will become much better companions. However, the Aries cat will never stop believing he is the “top cat.”

The Aries cat is extremely curious and can be accident-prone. He’ll love you intensely and share his possessions, but don’t try to take something away from him unless it’s dangerous, as he will resent you for it. Aries is the sign of authority, after all.

As always, be gentle, as Aries’s ego bruises easily. When led with love and given plenty of exercise, this cat will be a champion at everything he does. Remember your hand is not his toy! Hands are for loving and grooming.

Whether pedigreed or of divine mixed genetics, the Aries cat is very outgoing and enjoys the spotlight.

To call him extremely intelligent is an understatement. If he could speak in human words, he’d have an answer for everything and would need always to be right. As it is, your life with the Aries cat (just like an Aries man woman or child) will be a contest of strength and wit, with never a dull moment.

New Moon Report for March 22nd – New Moon in Aries

New Moon Report for March 22

by Jeff Jawer

New Moon in Aries

Thursday, March 22, 7:38 am PDT, 10:38 am EDT

The Aries New Moon is a rocket launcher, a blast-off moment and a fresh start for the new astrological year. This pioneering sign propels us into unknown territory, bravely (or blindly) jumping into the future. Innovative Uranus and brainy Mercury join this lunation to spark unconventional perceptions and fire up original ideas. We may get a little ahead of ourselves and impatiently force issues that aren’t quite ready for prime time. Concepts flying by at the speed of light must be slowed down to give them a chance to be examined.

The Aries New Moon is the beginning of both the Moon’s monthly cycle and the Sun’s annual cycle. The passion of this Fire sign spurs us to blaze new trails and experiment with original projects and unfamiliar forms of behavior. Starting things now might be easy, but sticking to them could be more difficult. The urge for personal freedom inspires independent action that can be bold and exciting, yet impulsive acts may rub some people the wrong way. Considering the feelings of others is essential to maintaining harmony when exploring new territory.

Your Daily Cosmic Calendar for Tuesday, March 13th

With the Moon in optimistic and enthusiastic Sagittarius, and last night’s Jupiter-Pluto trine offering you added encouragement across the board, it may seem that the cosmos is at your beck and call. However, Mercury now in reverse, the Mars-Neptune contra-parallel from Monday, and this morning’s 180-degree joust between Mars and Pallas (12:15AM PDT) are not exactly a friendly welcoming committee as this day begins. Don’t be your own worst enemy through self-criticism and antagonizing family members. Three favorable alignments give you a terrific boost as Mercury trines Juno (1:27AM PDT), the Moon trines Mercury (11:11AM PDT), and the Moon makes its monthly union with Juno in Sagittarius (11:20AM PDT). The emphasis on Juno reminds you to be more fashion-conscious, hip and stylish as well as to treat dear ones with respect. Fun, games and sports are always highlighted during the Moon in Sagittarius dispensation. The evening hours provide a dynamic one-two punch as Venus makes a flowing trine to Pluto in earth signs (6:29PM PDT) while Venus also unites with providential Jupiter at 10 degrees of Taurus (10:55PM PDT). This double combination by Venus can be your ticket to dramatic social gains and worldly success as a savvy entrepreneur who knows the score. If necessary, keep the midnight oil burning as Venus nears a trine to Mars (exact at 12:29AM PDT tomorrow) while the red planet is approaching a similar trine to Jupiter (precise at 2:52AM PDT tomorrow).

New Moon Report for March 5th – Venus in Taurus

New Moon Report for March 5th

Venus in Taurus

Monday, March 5, 2:25 am PST, 5:25 am EST

Alluring Venus’ return to her earthy home sign increases the potential for physical pleasure. All we need to do is to stop and appreciate the sweet things that delight our senses. This satisfying transit reminds us to find comfort by accepting ourselves as we are instead of trying so hard to become someone else. Still, resistance to change can lock down relationships and restrict us to familiar tastes and habits. Exercising a little flexibility goes a long way to overcome this self-limiting pattern.

Symbols and Associations of the Element Air

Air has the qualities of coolness and dryness and associations with breath, life, and communication. In astrology, Air rules the zodiac signs Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra. People born under the Air signs think, communicate, analyze, and theorize. They love freedom, truth and justice, and have the ability to change circumstances with amazing speed. As thinkers, they rely on rationality rather than on intuition or emotions. Their philosophical approach to any situation allow them to endure hardship. Air signs can tolerate almost any circumstances, as long as there is a rational explanation for it. They have great leadership capabilities, with a reputation of being fair. Interested in almost everything, they are lifelong students.

The Element of Air becomes a negative one when Air folks require family and friends to uphold the same standards they live by. Air people cannot understand why everyone does not think and act as they do When they make a mistake, they tend to rationalize instead of using the situation as a learning experience. They are devoted to abstract ideas and have difficulty making decisions, making them sometimes exasperating to work with. In addition, they tend to procrastinate.
