HERBAL INVOCATION

HERBAL INVOCATION

“Earth, divine Goddess, Mother Nature who generates all things and brings forth anew the sun which you have given to the nations; Guardian of sky and sea and of all gods and powers….through your power all nature falls silent and then sinks in sleep. And again you bring back the light and chase away night and yet again you cover us most securely with your shades. You do contain chaos infinite, yea and winds and showers and storms; you send them out when you will and cause the
seas to roar; you chase away the sun and rouse the storm. Again when you will you send forth the joyous day and give the nourishment of life with your eternal surety; and when the soul departs to you we return. You are indeed duly called Great Mother of the Gods; you conquer by your divine name. You are the source of strength of nations and of gods, without you nothing can be brought to
perfection or be born; you are Great Queen of the Gods. Goddess! I adore thee as divine; I call upon your name; be pleased the grant that which I ask of you, so shall I give thanks to thee, Goddess, with due faith. Hear, I beseech you, and be favorable to my prayer. Whatsoever herb your power does produce, give, I pray, with goodwill to all nations to save them and grant me this my medicine.
Come to me with your powers, and howsoever I may use them, may they have good success to whosoever I may give them. Whatever you grant, may it prosper. To you all things return. Those who rightly receive these herbs from me, please make them whole. Goddess, I beseech you, I pray as a suppliant that by your majesty you grant this to me. Now I make intercession to you all your powers and herbs and to your majesty, you whom Earth parent of all has produced and given as a
medicine of health to all nations and has put majesty upon you, I pray you, the greatest help to the human race. This I pray and beseech from you, be present here with your virtues, for She who created you has Herself promised that I may gather you into the goodwill of him on whom the art of medicine was bestowed, and grant for health’s sake good medicine by grace of your powers. I pray grant me through your virtues that whatsoever is wrought by me through you may in all
it’s powers have good and speedy effect and good success and that I may always be permitted with the favor of your majesty to gather you into my hands and to glean your fruits. So shall I give thanks to you in the name of the majesty which ordained your birth.’

Dreams and soft ease attend thy train
lead drifting sleep to Orphic strain.
Nikta, decked with starry light
Rests deep silence, indwelling  ebony night.
Goddess of phantoms, of shadow plays
whose body divides the sun lit days.
She from whom  all Gods and men were born
She we seek when the veil is torn…
Be present Goddess with mysteries abound

Offerings: Work in the barn with livestock. Do some chore or work-task that you were taught was inappropriate for your gender.
Daily Meal: Goat. Lamb or mutton. Coarse bread. Soup or stew. Greens.

Invocation to Pales

Hail, Keeper of Flocks and Herds,
Ass-headed god/dess, you who are
Both male and female,
Both god and peasant,
Patron of those who must dirty their hands,
Beloved of the working man and woman,
You who do not play favorites,
Trickster who loves a good joke,
Lord of the dry land between the rivers
Where your flocks graze on scrub
And the people’s blood flows like water
In their everlasting feud,
Come to us and show us life
Through your crooked ass eyes!
Hail, Keeper of Flocks and Herds,
Lady/Lord of the crook and sandals,
You show us that roles
Are meant to be transgressed,
That work can be radical,
That being bound to the labor of the Earth
Does not have to make one heavy.
We need your humor, divine ass!
We need your braying laughter to echo
Over the desert and through our hearts,
And to watch you tip the balance of power
Like a child tips an applecart.
Hail, Keeper of Flocks and Herds!

(After the invocation, go to the barn, or to a local farm. Hoofed livestock should be given treats on this day, in honor of Pales.)

Faerie Flora and Trees

FAERIE FLORA AND TREES

Foxglove
Name is derived from “Little Folks’ Glove”. Florets are worn by faeries as hats and gloves.

Harebell

Primroses
Make the invisible visible. Eating them lets you see faeries. If one touches a faerie rock with the correct number of primroses in a posy, the way to faerieland and faerie gifts is made clear. The wrong number means certain doom.

Ragwort
Used as makeshift horses by the faerie.

Wild Thyme
Part of a recipe for a brew to make one see the faeries. The tops of the Wild Thyme must be gathered near the side of a faerie hill.

Cowslips
These are loved and protected by the faeries. They help one to find hidden faerie gold.

Pansies
The flower that was used as a love potion by Oberon, a faerie king thought to have been invented by Shakespeare.

Bluebell
One who hears a bluebell ring will soon die. A field of bluebells is especially dangerous, as it is intricately interwoven with faerie enchantments.

Clover
A four-leafed one may be used to break a faerie spell.

St. John’s Wort
Protects against faerie spells and is also used as a healing herb.
Hazel
Celtic legend says it is the receptacle of knowledge; the hazelnut is a symbol of fertility in England.

Rowan
Protects against bad spirits. Used in butter churns so that the butter would not be overlooked by faeries. Bewitched horses may be controlled by a rowan whip. Druids used rowan wood for fires with which they called up spirits whom could be forced to answer questions when rowanberries were spread over the flayed hides of bulls.

Blackthorn
Guarded by the Lunantishee.

Oak
Oakmen are created when a felled oak stump sends up shoots. One should never take food offered by them since it is poisonous.

Willow
At night they uproot themselves and stalk travelers, muttering at them.

Elder
Sometimes is a witch disguised as a tree. Never lay a baby in an elderwood cradle or the faeries will pinch them so they bruise. Burning elder wood is dangerous since it invites the Devil.

Birch
If the spirit of the birch tree (The One With the White Hand) touches a head it leaves a white mark and the person turns insane. If it touches a heart, the person will die.

Alder
Protected by water spirits.

Apple
To ensure good harvests, leave the last apple of your crop for the Apple-Tree-Man.

Ash
Druids wands were made of ash twigs. It also has healing properties. Weak-limbed children were passed through split ash trees which were then bound up. If the tree grew straight, the child would as well. Also may be used as a substitute for Rowan.

Toadstools
Some have poisonous hallucinogenic properties. The Vikings ate it and gain their reputations as berkerkers. In Celtic lore, they are among the food of the gods, as with many red plants. Some toadstools associated with the faerie are Fly Agaric, Yellow Fairy Club, Slender Elf Cap, Dune Pixie-Hood, and Dryad’s Saddle.

The Witches Magick for Thursday, April 17th – The Vexation Box Spell

Celtic & British Isles Graphics
The Witches Magick for Thursday, April 17th – The Vexation Box Spell

THE VEXATION BOX SPELL

This spell is for dealing with someone who is more of an annoyance than a threat, someone who really gets on your nerves or stresses you out by intruding in your life or violating your space. It is for someone you have already asked to stop but who persists in bothering you. It is not a spell to use on someone whose actions you object to within their own life or space.

You need:

A box
Herbs for protection
Two heads of garlic (or more, if you are using a big box or dealing with a group of people)
A photograph of the person, or their name written on a piece of paper

Put everything in the box. Cover the box and give it a good hard shake, mentally yelling at the person to modify the behavior that annoys you. Put the box away, in a drawer or up on a shelf. Take it out and give it a hard shake, yelling at them, every time they annoy you.

After the first week or so you should seldom need to shake the box. Throw the box away in a few months, when the garlic begins to spoil.

Dragon Empowerment Spell

Dragon Empowerment Spell

Items You Will Need:

  • Image of a dragon (I prefer a small, intricate dragon statuette)
  • Flame
  • will to acquire more power

The Spell:

Sit with your image of a dragon close enough to you at eye level that it is all you can easily focus on. place the flame between yourself and it. Focus your power upon it, and envision all the attributes of the dragon that you would like to acquire (i.e wisdom, strength, magical power). Now envision the flames jetting out, fueled by your magical power, and sapping these attributes from the dragon’s image and carrying them to you. This spell requires intense concentration and is not for beginners. When you feel the flames carry the powers of the dragon back to you, you will feel a sudden surge throughout your body, much like all your muscles tightening at once. Keep up your concentration as long as possible, and then release. you will notice after this that you have increased energy, more physical strength, and your magic is more powerful. This ritual can be repeated as many times as needed for increased results. As a side effect i have noticed the spell brings an increased control over the fire element.

Call your Dragon Guardian

Call your Dragon Guardian

This is to call upon a guardian dragon to protect anything.

There are 3 stages to it.

First, The Sudden Need Incantation:

This method is short and to the point. Usually used to protect the caster or another in a sudden crisis.

“By Dragon wing and dragon claw,
my defense is without flaw.
Shrouded by dragon might,
remove me from enemy sight.
Fly before me, Dragon bright,
and blind my foe with thy light.
Full of rage and terrible ire,
burn my assailants with Dragon Fire.”
Dark and terrible be thy wrath,
Dragon, protect me on my path.”

Second, The Short Term Protection.

This summoning is used for short term goals and needs such as protecting an object for a brief period, such as a car ride or elevator trip. Mark the object to be protected with the sign of the guardian and repeat the incantation below:

“Gentle Guardian wise and strong
keep it as it belongs.
Safe within thy charge and care,
the current venture to fare.
No harm to come or ill to befall,
guarded and safe through it all.”

Third, The Long Term Need:

This form of summoning is closer to permanent as we would perceive it. Yet in this you must still work with a time frame in mind, however distant it may be.

Guardian Dragons may be summoned in this fashion for protection of people places and things needing or deserving long term care (such as children, houses, spouses, etc). Multiple objects can be protected with but a change in grammar, but they should be together for a single dragon to protect (the objects become like a mini-horde).

“Dragon brave and Dragon wise,
let nothing escape your watchful eyes.
I call to you from your hidden lair,
(name object here) is entrusted to your care.
Permit no harm to come to ( named object),
in your presence may all evils take flight.
No baneful creature born of flesh nor spirit
may touch (name object) nor even come near it.
May those that would bring harm
be filled with fright and alarm.”

Freedom from Pain Spell

Freedom from Pain Spell

Think intensely about the person you want to free from pain. Visualize them in pain and agony, then visualize the pain fleeing from them as you chant the following nine times (three sets of three):

Wrap thee in cotton,
Bind thee with love,
Protection from pain,
Surrounds like a glove,
Brightest of blessings,
Surround thee this day (night),
For thou art cared for
Healing thoughts sent in flight.

White Candle Wound Healing Spell

White Candle Wound Healing Spell

Supplies:

  • 4 white candles
  • A photograph of the person you are helping.

Directions:

This ritual works best while facing east. If you feel better asking for permission if you’re going to work this ritual on someone else, go ahead. Arrange the candles and picture on your altar or workspace as follow:

               white candle
  white candle Photo white candle
               white candle

Invoke guardians and welcome your Gods. Concentrate on the subject receiving these magickal healings. Identify the problem that needs correcting. Light the candle facing east. As you do this, say:

Candle burn,
shine your light.
Take what’s wrong
and make it right.

Repeat with candle facing south.

Repeat with candle facing west.

Repeat with candle facing north.

Take time now to imagine the healing powers generated by these candles flowing into the subject of the ritual. Chant:

Dispell the agony,
let these wounds heal.
Banish the suffering,
no suffering to feel.

As you say this, imagine your subject surrounded by a healing, protective light that shines brighter each time you repeat the chant.

Thank the guardians and the Lord and Lady. Either extinguish the candles or allow them to burn out. Dispose of the candle remnants. It works best if you throw them into a river or bury them near a healthy tree, plant, or flower.
