Monday

magic happens

Monday

In the word Monday, we can see part of the word Moon. In the romance languages such as Italian or Spanish, this day of the week is called Lunes and clearly relates to the word lunar. On Mondays, a variety of magick may be worked. Because Monday centers on the energies of the Moon, things like psychism, dreams, feminine energy, health, success in spiritual pursuits, domestic matters, and things of family origin are especially important this day.

Mondays are best for love magick and anything concerning home or family, thus old saying, Mondays child is fair of face, which seems clearly to relate to the themes of love and health.

Angels of Monday are Gabriel, Arcan, Missabu, and Abuzaha. Arcan is known as the king of the angels of air and the “ruler” of Monday. Abuzaha (Abuzohar) serves Monday, and is very responsive to invocations and ritual magick. Missabu is a ministering angel of Arcan.

Check whether the moon is waning or waxing to determine what your spell will be. During waning moons, do spells to rid yourself of obstacles or for wisdom and protection. During waxing moons do magic for increase of any kind or to draw something into your life.

On Mondays, the best hour to work is moonrise. Get this information from your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac.

Your Ritual Clothing and Jewellery

Your Ritual Clothing and Jewellery

Inevitably there are certain things you will need to remember before you begin your magical working. While you are preparing and putting on your robes or ritual gowns you might spend time in reflection, silent meditation or prayer. Prior to the beginning of any spell and while dressing concentrate on the matter in hand. Alternatively, simply focus on the Supreme Being, Cosmic Responsibility and/or a successful outcome and ask that the event to follow helps you in your learning..

There is no limit to what can be worn. Some suggest white robes with black cords or vice versa, while others simply suggest that you are comfortable in what you wear. Many people will spend a great deal of time, energy and effort on fashioning suitable robes.

The idea is that when working magically you leave behind the ordinary mundane world, so turn off mobile phones, put away keys and name tags, remove money and other objects from pockets and so on.

It will be a matter of choice as to whether you wear jewellery or not. Magical jewellery such as the pentagram, ankh or rings with magical symbols or significance are often worn, although they are by no means essential. Many prefer not to wear watches, since time is considered irrelevant. It is often better not to use perfume or cologne unless it is based on essential oils which are suitable for the work in hand, or complement any incense being used.

Making your bath salts

Making your bath salts

Commercial bath salts will do absolutely nothing on an esoteric level – they have too many chemical additives and artificial perfumes – so it is a nice touch to make your own using single essential oils, blends and/or herbs. The fact that you have mixed them yourself means they are infused with your own vibration and therefore will work on a very subtle level. Matching your bath salt perfume to your incense perfume does wonders for your inner self.

You will need

• • 3 PARTS EPSOM SALTS

• • 2 PARTS BAKING SODA

• • 1 PART ROCK SALT (or Borax)

• • BOWL FOR MIXING

• • ESSENTIAL OILS IN YOUR CHOSEN PERFUMES

• • HANDFUL OF HERBS (optional)

• • NATURAL FOOD COLOURING

Method

Mix the first three ingredients thoroughly in the mixing bowl. Use your hands as this will enable you to imbue the salts with your own energy. This is your basic mixture and can be perfumed or coloured in any way that you please.

Note: It is wise when using essential oils to mix them first if you are using a blend to allow the synergy between the oils to develop.

Add your colouring first and mix to your satisfaction, then follow with your oil or blend a drop at a time. Add the herbs to the mixture and combine thoroughly. Be generous with the oils since the salts will absorb a surprising amount without you realizing. Your nose, however, as with all oils and perfumes is the best judge – there is no right or wrong amount.

When you wish to use your salts, add approximately 2 tablespoons to a full bathtub and mix well.

Preparation for Spell Working – The Ritual Bath

Preparation for Spell Working – The Ritual Bath

Several processes become automatic when preparing for spell work. If you choose to wear special clothing, then this has to be prepared before you actually start your personal preparations. We give below some suggestions for personal robes which can be laid out with some ceremony before you begin.

Important magical workings require you to take a ritual bath which cleanses, purifies and clarifies your energy so that you are able to get the best results possible. Many practitioners prefer to take a ritual bath before performing any magical workings. For what you may consider ‘lesser’ magic you do not need to bathe, but may prefer to cleanse yourself by running your hands over your body before you embark on any working.

Ritual Bathing

Ritual bathing arose in times gone by from a perceived need to be in as ‘virgin’ – that is, unsullied – a state as possible. This is what gave rise to working skyclad, i.e. without clothes, so that there were no encumbrances between the practitioner and his or her gods or deities.

Ritual Bath

As you mix in your salts, bless the water and charge it with your intent – be that a particular magical working, a relaxing evening or a successful meeting. The candles used in this ritual can be in the colours of the Elements or those most appropriate to your purpose, for example – pink (tranquility), blue (wisdom), green (self-awareness) and red (passion). For spiritual matters, use purple.

You will need

• • HOMEMADE BATH SALTS

• • VOTIVE CANDLES ACCORDING TO YOUR NEED

• • LARGE WHITE CANDLE

• • ESSENTIAL OIL TO REMOVE NEGATIVITY (e.g. rosemary)

• • LARGE GLASS OF MINERAL WATER OR JUICE

Method

Anoint the large white candle with the essential oil and ask for positivity, health and happiness as you do so. Do the same with the votive candles according to your need. You may, if you wish, inscribe a symbol to represent your purpose on each candle.

Run your bath and mix in the bath salts.
Light the candles, first the white one followed by the votives. Place the latter safely around the bath. The white candle should be placed wherever you feel is safest. You have now created a sacred space for yourself.

Lie back and enjoy your bath and at some point drink your water or juice visualizing your whole system being cleansed inside as well as out. Before you get out of the bath, thank the water deities for this opportunity to prepare thoroughly for the new energies available to you. If you are to perform a magical working, then keep your mind focused on that intent.

On this occasion, for safety’s sake, when you have finished your bath, snuff out the candles.

Different types of spell working

Different types of spell working

Elemental

In this particular type of magic the Elements of Fire, Earth, Air and Water are given their own directional focus to create added power and give extra energy to your spells. You will no doubt find that you tend to favor one particular direction but should be able to use all of them.

Color

Perhaps the simplest form of magic is that which involves color. This method of working is also used in conjunction with various other forms of magic. Color can enhance, alter and completely change moods and emotions and therefore can be used to represent our chosen goal. At its simplest it can be used alone and can be used in dressing an altar.

Herbal

Herbal magic is often used alongside many other forms of magic. Used as talismans and amulets – for example in a pouch or bag – herbs become protective; the oil from herbs can also be used in candle magic. There are many different types of herbs available for use in this way. Each herb has its own specific use, but frequently is used along with many other herbs and oils to produce a desired result.

Candle

In candle magic, man discovered the ability to control light and this is one of the oldest forms of magic as well as one of the most simple. Using candles to symbolize ourselves and our beliefs means that we have access to a power beyond ourselves. Candle magic also forms an effective back-up for most other forms of magical working.

Crystal

Every stone or gem has its own attribute which can be used in magic. Crystals are used extensively in healing because of the vibration impact they can have. Because of this, they lend themselves to the enhancement of any spell-making or magical working. Even ordinary stones have their own power and can be used as repositories for all sorts of energies and powers.

Knot

Knot magic works partly with the principle of binding, which is a type of bidding spell and also with that of weaving, which was traditionally a female intuitive occupation. It utilizes ribbon, rope, string, yarn, or anything that can be knotted or plaited to signify our aspiration. It is a type of representational magic, and is used in conjunction with many of the other forms. The techniques of colour, form and use of energies are all used in its practice.

Representational

Representational magic involves using an object that represents something or someone for whom you are working the spell. It helps in concentrating the energy and visualizing the desire and the end result. Representational objects should never be used for negative purposes.

Symbolic

In this system different symbols, rather than objects, are used to represent various ideas, people or goals. These symbols can be personal to you or such things as Tarot cards, Runes, Hebrew letters or numerology. You will often use symbolic magic in your magical workings and will soon develop your own preferred symbols.

Talismans, amulets and charms

These devices use all the other forms of magic in their formation, but principally representational and symbolic magic. They are ‘charged’ (given power) magically and usually are worn or carried on the person for protection or good luck. Many are worn around the neck, perhaps as jewellery, or carried in a pouch and incorporate crystals, herbs or other magical objects. There are many types of each of these objects and you will gradually learn to differentiate between them.

To ward off evil

To ward off evil

To ward off evil that has advanced unwarranted, be it the work of others or devils, one must begin with a thorough bathing and cleansing of the body after the midnight, but before the rising of the morning’s sun.

Great care should be taken that this be done lest the spell fail.

At the dawn, having properly cleansed one’s body, and whilst without having dressed, one need stand in the center of a well-lit room and face the south.

Repeat the following invocation, once in each direction, turning from south to west, then north and finally east:

I call to Baëll, king of the evil horde
Leader of the six and sixty legions
Call up thine minions and order them down
That none should set against me this day or next
Bade them instead protect
Protect me from the evil
Protect me from those
Those of the evil will

When you have spoken this invocation in all four directions, going from south to west to north to east, remain facing to the east and repeat the following invocation:

Baëll, principal king of the power of the east
Hear mine words, for I bid thee no visit
Only that this thing be done

Immediately turn to face the south so that the spell might be cast and sealed.

The spell is done.

A Spell to Drive Away Fear

A Spell to Drive Away Fear

An invocation to drive away the Spirits of Fear – a powerful magic spell used to prevent the spirits of fear from bringing suffering into one’s life.

At the rising of the sun, on the twelfth day of the month, a piece of clean, white, fine cloth should be laid flat upon a table. An equal mixture of thyme, rosemary and freshly ground ginger root should be spread over it, evenly distributed, but not too heavy.

The following invocation need be spoken aloud:

Spirit of the Rising Sun
Enter this place
Allow thy face to shine brightly upon this offering
That thy grace may be invoked.

The Spirit of Fear hath taken up residence in mine humble home
And apprehension has settled in not to be easily shaken loose
Spirit of the Rising Sun hear my plea
Let these spirits no more bother me
Banish them to darkness and bid them take leave.

Spirit of the Rising Sun fill the empty corners
That lo, they may not loiter and hide
Sweep the rooms with thine mighty hand
Force them outside.

Spirit of the Rising Sun
I invoke your power
That these things for which I ask
Be done
So it was, so it is, so it shall ever be.

When you have finished the invocation, carefully gather-up the cloth so as to not spill the mixture. Take the cloth full of mixture out of doors and shake it completely clean. The cloth should then be washed clean using soap and hot water.

Magic Spell for Conjuring the Spirits of the Night

Magic Spell for Conjuring the Spirits of the Night

A powerful magic spell incantation that is cast to call forth the night spirits and lingering haunts.

Near to the midnight, find a dark and lonesome place for the most solitude. The room should have a window which can be opened, if not fully, at least partially.

Open the window.

One should prepare by sitting cross-legged on the floor, facing the north.

Clear your mind of all thoughts.

At the stroke of midnight, repeat the following invocation:

Spirits of the night, I beseech thee,
Find favor with mine call and summons,
On the seven winds I beg thee travel,
And greet me in mine presence,
For a speaking of things that need bespoke,
From this moment hence,
Thy powers do I wish invoke,
For things that need be done.

Once this invocation has been spoken, close your eyes, clear your mind and welcome the spirits as they enter. There is no way that one may know how many may come, but remember that they should be greeted, one and each, as they enter. They may appear as apparitions, or one may only feel their presence.

When they have finished their arrivals, you may communicate with them using only the voice of your mind.

Protection of a Sleeping Child

Protection of a Sleeping Child

This magic protection spell is especially beneficial for the warding-off of bad dreams and night-terrors.

You will need:

One beeswax candle
Quiet privacy where the child sleeps

Light the beeswax candle and stand at the foot of the child’s bed, facing the head of the bed. Hold the candle with both hands; elbows bent slightly, arms not fully extended.

Repeat the following words:

Let the working of this spell begin.
I call upon the spirits of the sky. Hear me and listen to my plea.
Gather and come close that all may hear.
Watch over this sleeping child, the innocent, this bed and any that may it occupy. Guard against all terrors, real or imagined, that this way come and bring tranquility and peace in their stead.
All that hear, take heed — so be the will — so be the deed.

Extinguish the candle.

Health Protection

Health Protection

An excellent bath spell for the protection of one’s general health.

You will need:

A beeswax candle
A sprig of fresh Rosemary
A sprig of fresh Rue
A small saucepan or pot
Spring water

Place the Rosemary and Rue in the pan or pot and add the spring water.

Bring the water to a boil and then remove the pot or pan from the heat. Remove the Rosemary and Rue from the water and discard.

Draw a warm bath.

Light the candle. Place it near the bath.

Pour the water from the pot or pan into bath and stir in a clockwise motion with your right hand.

Repeat the following words as you enter the water:

Spirits of health, spirits of the Earth, water and sky.

Bring to me your strength. Give me health and watch over me.

Grant me refreshment when I tire and rejuvenation in my weariness.

Ritual of Protection for Your House

Ritual of Protection for Your House

This ritual is to protect a residence from bad weather and vandalism. It also attracts positive influences.

You will need:
A beeswax candle
Lavender incense
A handful of cloves
A small green fabric sachet

Light the candle and the incense. Hold the cloves in your right hand and repeat the following words:

With this spell I ask this residence be protected,
Against the hand of the man,
Against weather and the elements,
Against any all things considered evil.

Place the cloves in the green bag.
Extinguish the candle and wave the bag slowly through the smoke of the candle until the candle stops smoking. Next, wave the bag through the smoke of the incense and repeat the following words:

Seal the spell and with this be done

Suspend the bag above one of the principal entrances to your residence.

This is a powerful protection for your residence and you will see a real transformation a few days after having performed this ritual.

Seeking Your Purpose

Necessary Enhancements and Magickal Tools

The necessary tools for this spell include any tools you have chosen for your formation as described below. You must have:

  • a small clear quartz crystal and a small piece of amethyst
  • a drawstring bag or something that holds them together (A handkerchief or piece of cloth would work; however, do not put them in the bag yet.)

Candles

You will also need one purple candle placed in front of you.

Formation

All spells should begin with casting a circle, which is your shield of protection. If you are using a triangle or a square, cast your circle first and then cast your formation within it.

The best formation for this spell is the triangle or a circle. Cast your formation using a wand, a knife, an extended arm with fingers pointed, salt, or other material items you may have chosen.

Direction to Face

This spell is most effective if you are facing east. Arrange your candles as stated above and any tools or enhancements that will be in your formation so that they will be in front of you when you are sitting facing east.

Moon Phase

This spell will work best if cast during the Full Moon or Waxing Phase of the Moon because we are hoping to increase good possibilities just at the Moon is increasing as it waxes to full.

Day of the Week

The most favorable days of the week to cast this spell would be on Sunday, Monday or Thursday.

Before You Start Your Spell

Make sure you have no distractions.

Turn phones off if possible.

Play soothing music.

Keep the lights dim.

Wash your hands or shower before you begin.

Light incense if you are using it.

Gather everything you need and have it close at hand.

Draw your formation.

Ask your higher power to allow the information to flow through you.

Affirmation

Affirmation to be read within your formation before you actually begin your spell.

In the luminous rays of the Moon, I ask with somewhat a sense of frustration: Why am I here? What is my purpose? Do I have a special place or goal I should be pursuing?

Am I being anxious, for I have not yet found this special accomplishment I am to bring into being? Am I pressing something that is not yet to be revealed to me? Do I feel, as the years march on, that the time is now because I say it is now? I don’t know. Tell me, help me, and bring me clarity.

Perhaps I am already doing what I am meant to do. Perhaps my vanity thinks I should be contributing on a much higher level. Everyone has his or her purpose. I look at nature. The ants have their place and so do the eagles.

Will I change the world? Am I meant to be a support person for someone else? Am I helping the planet every time I give a warm smile and nod to a stranger? Must everything be so grand, as for all people to see our good deeds and acknowledge them? Maybe I already am fulfilling my purpose and am not aware of it. Bring me guidance through the wisdom of the all-knowing beings and energies that are enlightened. Make me aware if I have already reached my goal or if I am about to enter onto the path that leads toward it.

My age and desire have nothing to do with it. It is my higher power that knows the way.

I will be patient. In my patience I will learn what my true purpose is. I let go of the desire to know and accept that things will evolve according to the universal plan. I am here, I am ready.

AND SO IT IS.

How to Perform the Spell

Take your gemstones and place them in your bag or cloth. While holding the bag, recite the following incantation:

These stones I hold are conductors too,

With answers and visions that will come through.

In my dreams, I will see what’s real,

My destiny to be revealed.

Conclude with any statement that signifies closure of the ceremony in your mind such as “And so it is,” “Blessed be,” or “Amen.” Now extinguish your candles and release your formation.

Sleep with the bag of stones under your pillow or next to the bed.

Pay attention to your dreams for the next three days. Look for the symbols within your dreams. The answers are there for you.

Lady A’s Magickal Tip of the Day – A Simple Protection Charm

A Simple Protection Charm

Here is a simple protection charm that can be hung over the front door, in your car, or even buried at the entrance to your home:

Take a black or white cloth (silk or cotton are best) and place in it a few sprigs of rosemary, some sage, a clove of garlic(still in its skin, if you don’t want to stink up the place), and some dried basil. Add a piece of black onyx or an agate, and tie up the whole bundle with black or white string. Visualize yourself safe and protected, along with whatever space you are trying to protect, then say the following words:

Safe for now,

Safe forever,

Harming none

But harmed never.

Then place the charm wherever you feel it is needed.

Let’s Talk Witch – Invocation

Unicorns

Invocation

Our old pal Webster defines invocation as the act or process of petitioning for help or support, a prayer of entreaty (as at the beginning of a service of worship), or a formula for conjuring.

Maybe Webster was a Witch?

Well, okay, probably not. But these are all pretty good descriptions of what an invocation is in the magickal world.

Specifically, there are two kinds of invocations that are almost always used in Pagan rituals. The first is what we usually refer to as “calling the quarters.”

The other common form of invocation that we use in rituals is somewhat different. After we summon the quarters, we invoke the goddess and the god, or sometimes just one or the other-for instance, on full moons we often only call on the goddess. The main difference here is that while we summon the elements, we ask the gods to join us in our circle. (Politely, if we know what’s good for us.)

After all, they are god and we are just mortals. There is no way that we can order them to do anything.

So we ask them to come our circles. Nicely. God and goddesses invocations are essentially a way of getting their attention and letting them know that we would like very much for them to spend some time with us, pretty please.

A typical goddess invocation used for a full moon ritual might go something like this:

Great Goddess, mother of us all, we ask

you to join us here in our circle as we

celebrate this, your night. Under the glowing

moon, we gather in your name and seek to

use the power that you have given us. We

ask you to join us and aid us in our task.

Welcome, and blessed be.

It is important to be respectful in both kinds of invocations (since the elements are our allies, not our servants) but especially when calling upon the gods. It just makes sense. After all, you wouldn’t call up your parents and order them to come to dinner, even if that tactic actually worked on your younger brother.

You will note that the last definition of invocation is “a formula for conjuring.” Technically, this would mean that any spell or incantation is also an invocation. And you can certainly call them that if you want to; the Pagan Definition Police will probably not show up at your house and haul you away. (This time.) But in general, when we use the term invocation in magick, we are talking about calling the quarters or the gods, not casting a spell.

The Witches Magick for the 18th Day of the Snow Moon – Dream Name Spell

SPRING WICCAN~CHALLENGE GP

Dream Name Spell

Names are sacred and can be used for dream empowerment, as well as for protection from harm and attack.

To cast this spell, you will need a white candle, your favorite incense and your dream crystal.

About an hour before you go to sleep, draw a magic circle around your bedroom and call in the elements. Light the candle, dedicating it to the Goddess and God. Light the incense from the candle flame, and also dedicate it to the Goddess and God. Hold the crystal in your receptive hand. Reminder: Your receptive hand is opposite your power hand. Your power hand is the hand you eat with, your dominant hand. Your receptive hand is your non-dominant hand. If you are right-handed, your receptive hand is your left hand.

Merge with the divine, and say nine times:

Bright and shining ones, blessed be

Please reveal my dream name to me.

Still holding the crystal, speak aloud to yourself, repeating over and over again.

What is my dream name?

Many names will come to mind, but make an effort to hone in on the one name that repetitively comes to mind. It may be a name (or word) you are familiar with, or it might be a name (or word) you have never heard before. Once you know your dream name, state aloud that you are now known by your dream name (say the name), and that all the previous names you have been known by are not really your true names. Only one name represents the true you, and that is your dream name (say the name). State aloud that you are safe from harm and from any negative thoughts from anyone unless they know your dream name. Create an eternity clause in your dream name by setting up impossible tasks that would have to be performed by someone if they discovered it, and wanted to use it against you. For example say, “Before anyone can use my dream name against me, they would have to count the atoms, one by one, of all of the celestial bodies of the cosmos over and over again, backwards and forwards, forever and a night.” Remember, never write down or tell your dream name to another person, not even your mate or best friend.

When you are done, thank the Goddess and God, bid farewell to the elements, and pull up the circle. Allow the incense and candle to burn down completely. As you drift to sleep, silently repeat your dream name over and over again.
