Witchcraft Correspondences: What They Are and Why You Need Them for Your Spells

Born in deepest Cornwall, now living in wild Wales, Bev has been practising her personal brand of eclectic witchcraft for years and years.

Sarah is preparing a love spell for herself. The dating scene has been a bit of a desert recently, and she wants a little romance in her life. She’s dusted her altar, cleared her working area, and had a scented bath. Now, she carefully lays out a small collection of objects: a pink candle, a rose bud in a glass of water, two tarot cards (the Ace and Knight of Cups), a photo of a turtle dove, and a rose quartz crystal.

A few streets along, Tanya is also preparing to cast a spell. She needs money to get her car repaired. She has also prepared herself and the room where she does her energy work. Her collection of objects include a green candle, a favorite pebble, a sprig of oak leaves, a small china toad, two tarot cards (Ace and Six of Pentacles), and a chunk of malachite.

These items are commonly called ‘correspondences’.

What Are Correspondences in Witchcraft?

Correspondences are objects that are connected to, and representative of other things, intentions, desires and outcomes. They can be such things as candles, crystals, jewelry, household objects, ornaments, plants, herbs, and images of anything. As well as tangible objects, they can be deities, angels, scents, colors, symbols, numbers, and words. Even your own visualizations can be termed correspondences because they are an abstract mirroring of your desire. All spell ‘ingredients’ are correspondences. The elements of earth, air, fire, and water are correspondences. So are the cardinal directions. Each of these has its own distinct kind of energy.

Their purpose is to create a matrix to help focus the mind and magnify the energy which you release into the ether.

Common Correspondences

The following correspondences have mostly been taken from the comprehensive and very big, Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Correspondences: A Comprehensive & Cross-Referenced Resource for Pagans & Wiccans by Sandra Kines. Its 450 pages contain a vast amount of correspondences for many situations and their potential magical workings/spells. The Kindle version has a really useful click-able index which makes the most of the cross-referencing. The lists below are just a tiny sample.

Beauty

  • Zodiac sign/s – Libra and Sagittarius
  • Switchword – Praise
  • Colors – Gold, green, peach, pink
  • Number – Three
  • Tarot cards – Empress, Nine of …

There are references which list Zadkiel and Sachiel as the same being… However, my experience is that they each have an individualized Divine I Am Core, so I’ll describe them both for you here.

Archangel Zadkiel “Righteousness of God”

Zadkiel carries the flame of righteousness and forgiveness and will assist you in releasing any forgiveness held towards yourself or others so that you can remember the full truth of who you are. Forgiveness will assist you in releasing heavy emotions like fear and anger into the light to be transmuted back into love.  Archangel Zadkiel is happy to help you strengthen your connection with the Divine. He can also help you to transmute negative back into pure light, and positive energy, with the Violet Flame.

Archangel Sachiel “The Covering of God”

Sachiel or Sachael is an angel of wealth, water, success and prosperity. Sachiel’s energy is big, bright, soothing and incredibly uplifting. His bright loving presence brings hope, inspires health, cuts through negative emotional energy, depression and despair by reconnecting you with the true authenticity of your soul light and purpose. Sachiel supports with expansion and growth in all ways, helping those who call upon him to sync with the flow abundance, prosperity and good fortune.

January 2, 2022 Daily Correspondence Digest for the Northern Hemisphere’s Moon Phase and Planetary Positions

You can use this link to go forward or backward in time for Moon phase information. If you are curious you can even find out what phase the Moon was in when you or anyone else, you know was on the date the person was born.

From Moongiant.com

The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a New Moon phase. During this phase the Moon is too close to the sun in the sky to be visible. The moon rises and sets with the sun and is not present in the night sky. Because of this the night sky is darker and an excellent time to view other celestial objects. Like the Full Moon, a New Moon happens at a very specific time when the sun and moon have the same ecliptic longitude and it can be measured down to the second it occurs.

Visit the January 2022 Moon Phases Calendar to see all the daily moon phase for this month.

Today’s New Moon Phase

The New Moon on January 2 has an illumination of 0%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On January 2 the Moon is 29.22 days old. This refers to how many days it has been since the last New Moon. It takes 29.53 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth and go through the lunar cycle of all 8 Moon phases.

The 8 Lunar Phases

There are 8 lunar phases the Moon goes through in its 29.53 days lunar cycle. The 4 major Moon phases are Full Moon, New Moon, First Quarter and Last Quarter. Between these major phases, there are 4 minor ones: the Waxing Crescent, Waxing Gibbous, Waning Gibbous and Waning Crescent. For more info on the Moon Cycle and on each phase check out Wikipedia Lunar Phase page.

From Moongiant.com

The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a Waning Crescent phase. In this phase the Moon’s illumination is growing smaller each day until the New Moon. During this part of the Moon cycle, the Moon is getting closer to the Sun as viewed from Earth and the night side of the Moon is facing the Earth with only a small edge of the Moon being illuminated. This phase is best viewed an hour or 2 before the sunrise and can be quite beautiful if you’re willing to get up early. It can also be a great time to see the features of the Moon’s surface. Along the edge where the illuminated portion meets the dark side, the craters and mountains cast long shadows making them easier to observe with a telescope or binoculars.

Days Of The Week In Wicca

From a Wiccan viewpoint, it is marvellous how the traditional names of days have survived all through the dark times. It is no secret that all seven days of the week have been named after Gods and Goddesses worshipped by the Old Tradition. Let’s explore the way we could bring a little magic in our everyday use.

According to modern Wicca traditions, all seven days of the week has different attributes and represent a certain element. It is down to you individually, how you use this information but it is believed that an understanding of the wheel of the week can bring a nice change to a hectic lifestyle.

The seven-day week was first introduced by ancient Egyptians, when according to Egyptian astrology they assigned a name to every day by the planet that was regent during the first hour of that particular day. As ancient Egyptian astrology knew only seven celestial bodies, we now have seven days of the week. But all this has also a deeper meaning not only within Wicca.

Sunday was named after Sunna – the Germanic goddess of the Sun. In modern Wicca traditions it…

Color Correspondence Of Color and Hue

Color correspondence is the way that the use of color will affect your magickal workings. From the color of the candles that you use to the color of clothes that you wear

It should be noted that this type of correspondence is not just associated with pagan followings or metaphysics.  There is scientific evidence about the relationship of color to mood, success and growth.  In many penal systems, when an inmate acts out of line (eq. gets in a fight), they are put into a “pink room” for a short time.  This, under short duration, is said to calm the suspect. But long time exposure to pinks or reds can have exactly the opposite effect.

Light a yellow candle to promote mental clarity and knowledge. Meditating with a yellow candle promotes creativity, imagination, communication, mental strength and intellect. It is great for requests of creativity, materialization and trust.

Wiccan God Apollo Wiccan Goddess Brighid Wiccan God Helios Wiccan God RaApollo, Brighid, Helios and Ra are rulers of Sundays.

Crystals

Amber, Carnelian, Diamond, Tiger’s Eye.

Carrying these gemstones today can bring success and fulfillment of your goals. Wear them as a talisman or simply keep them close to you to harness their energy.

Potion

Drink a cup of Honey and Ginger Tea to fill your Sunday with positive energy. Traditional Chinese medicine holds that ginger restores devastated yang¹. It is a symbol of strength and purity. Ginger even appears in the ancient Hindu text, the Kama Sutra, where its use is entrusted to enhance sexual relationships and help flow the energy of love and sensuality.

From whats-your-sign.com

The archangel Michael is in charge of this day.  In the Hebrew language, Michael’s name means: ‘One who is as God’. Sunday and Michael are both associated with the Sun. This makes a lot of sense.  Consider, Sunday in earlier eras was commonly established as the day of Sabbath, or day of worship.  The symbolic meaning of the Sun is akin to the spirit, the light that shines bright within us, the fire within the soul.  Archangel Michael and the Sun are mighty partners to enhance our virtues, devotionals, prayers and meditations on Sunday.

Planetary Day and Hour Correspondences

The way of the planets

To maximize the effect of witchcraft spells and natural magick, one should look to the natural correspondences between planets and other elements of the magick. In the two sections below, the planets are listed first with the aspects of life they rule, then in a chart showing how the planets correspond to other components you may use in designing in your spell. However, remember that the best magick is always composed of what works best for you!

Daily Correspondence

One Day is Not as Another

Daily correspondence is the way that the days of the week will relate to your magickal workings and the world around you.

We have broken this section into two parts.  The first table is a quick overview of the days of the week and how they correspond to different magickal workings.  The second section is an in depth study into different aspects of daily correspondence.

This is done for those who practice “high magick”. Though there is very little to do with Advanced Magick on Ancient Pathway due to the nature of that practice, we were unable to locate a comprehensive table for this subject, so we have provided it here.

From GypsyWolf

Saturday is the last day of the week, corresponding to the Roman Dies Saturni, or day of Saturn, the Roman god of death and agriculture, also known as Chronos or Cronus (Greek).   Saturday is the seventh day, therefore the true “sabbath day”, appropriate for the home and rest.   Saturday is also represented by Loki, the Norse god of tricks and chaos, brother of Odin and god of fire.

From A Pagan Mess

Planet: Saturn
Element: Earth
Colors: Black, Purple
Keywords: Banishing, Protection, Control, Order, Boundaries, Self Discipline, Cleansing

Saturn brings a powerful, somewhat intimidating power to Saturdays. This is another great day for banishing and protection magic, as well as for setting strong boundaries. The energy of Saturn is very orderly and is great when structure is needed.

From Numerologist.com – Saturday’s Angel

Archangel Cassiel is the resonant Angel for Saturdays.

Known by many as the “angel of tears” he oversees the parts of life that we may perceive as limiting –  karma, trials, tests and lessons, old age and reincarnation. He is also the guardian of land, property, houses and farming.  It’s easy to see why he’s an archangel many would avoid, but if you lack stability in your life, and are willing to commit to long term goals by sacrificing immediate pleasures to get there, then he is your go-to angel.

He is serious and will help you deal with issues of a serious nature –  death, missing persons, psychic attack and the eradication of illness, pests and disease.  He is also here to assist us as we navigate boundaries and limitations, responsibility and authority, and our human mortality.  He is the archangel to invoke when dealing with injustices and enslavement and in moments of deep fear.

Archangel Cassiel is often depicted as an old man or holding an hourglass.

Invoke his presence and he will come to your aid to help carry your burdens and share your woe.  But he will also remind you of the necessity of hardship and the great learning that comes from the darkest hour.

Archangel Cassiel resonates with the colors of deep purple and black and with the planet Saturn.
