These trees were and are considered sacred by the Druids and those following a Celtic tradition. Used in the bonfires for Bealtaine and Samhain. Unfortunately where I live in the USA I have not been able to collect wood from all these scared trees as of yet, I am always on the look out for them.
Nine woods in the Cauldron go, burn them fast and burn them slow.
Birch in the fire goes to represent what the Lady knows.
Oak in the forest towers with might, in the fire it brings the God’s insight.
Rowan is a tree of power causing life and magick to flower.
Willows at the waterside stand ready to help us to the Summerland.
Hawthorn is burned to purify and to draw faerie to your eye.
Hazel the tree of wisdom and learning adds its strength to the bright fire burning.
White are the flowers of Apple tree that brings us fruits of fertility.
Grapes grow upon the vine giving us both joy and wine.
Fir does mark the evergreen to represent immortality seen.

I have not been able to collect all nine either. I have seen a video of a fire burning with all 9 and it was beautiful – a pyromancer’s dream! LOL
Yes it is. I was able to get them one year over a decade ago when I lived near Mirton Arboretum. I volunteered to pick up fallen brached after bad thunderstorms hit with lots of flooding. As the trees had a marker in the ground in front of them I was able take some branches of each of the 9 trees. I did my Samhain fire with them. Went I went to get my other bundle out for Beltane it was gone. Turns out my ex thought it was regular firewood and burned it all.

You were obviously meant to have a one-time, had-to-be-there kind of experience. So happy for you – it is a splendid fire :^)

I’m still hoping it wasn’t a one-time thing. Only time will tell.
