Creating & Walking A Moon Circle

Moon circle is a place to receive messages about your future. You can build one for yourself or with others. It is a circle created by the use of shells, rocks, stones, bricks, pinecones, or anything you choose. The reason a circle is used that the energy comes up faster within a circle and continues to turn, creating a vibration that will allow you to tap into your future more readily. The circle is divided into the four major compass directions, each one having specific meanings and insights.

The Moon circle provides a place sincere people can resolve problems and come to a better understanding of situations, as well as foreseeing future events. With a Moon circle, you can draw from the universal life force energy to receive messages and to prevent disharmony from coming into your life. It is like a magick mirror that looks into the future.

Native American traditions show us the use of a medicine wheel, which has some basic similarities but is far different. I have great respect for the medicine wheel and feel it is a powerful tool for healing and balance. However, the two should not be confused — the medicine wheel is more complex and requires much more understanding of Native American beliefs.

How to Make a Moon Circle

You can style a temporary circle or assemble a permanent one if you live on a piece of land that is spacious. If you have the capability to make your circle outside among nature, you will receive that extra-earth connection. However, if you do not have that opportunity, you can create one in your living room or another appropriate indoor space.

Choose the spot where you will create your circle. It can be an area that just “feels good” to you. You will mark off the four compass points— north, south, east, and west— with some type of stone or indicator. Next, make a second small circle in the center that will surround your crystal, stone, etc. The center circle is the energy point. You may opt to create a third, and largest, circle that encompasses the two inner circles. This provides a walkway around the inner circle, keeping the energy contained. Remember to leave a gateway or opening from the east through which you enter and one in the west through which you exit.

If forming the minimum temporary-style Moon circle, you will need five stones, crystals, shells, bricks, or whatever you have available to mark the spot.

First place a stone at each compass point and one in the center. Although this may look like a cross, you must visualize an etheric circle connecting the outer stones.

Keep in mind the size of your circle. If you will be working your magick alone, a small circle will do. If you intend to work with someone else or others, you will have to make the circle large enough to accommodate all those involved. Also consider how you will sit. Not all of us are able to bend or move freely. Be practical by placing chairs, stools, or pillows to sit on within the circle before you start your ceremony, if necessary. I use large logs on occasion when outdoors.

How to Walk the Moon Circle

Once your circle is in place, enter the circle from the east, as this is where the Sun rises and is the direction that opens all passages. You will exit through the west, where the Sun sets. If using a three-circle layout, you will have already created an entry point to pass through.

Next you should cleanse yourself and the circle. You may want to use a smudge stick of white sage as a form of purification. You can buy a stick of white sage at most health food stores or New Age gift stores. Light the sage stick and let it smother. When it starts to smoke, pass it back and forth in front of and around your own body as a form of purging. You are bathing yourself in smoke. If others are involved, smudge them as well, passing the smoke around them.

Some people use loose sage and light it in a seashell, using a feather to spread the smoke. However, the sage stick is usually the easiest, as it requires no other tools. Next, smudge the circle in the same manner, spreading smoke throughout the circle to release negativity.

If you do not have sage or prefer not to smudge, simply pass your hand in a sweeping motion over the circle and visualize any remaining negativity leaving the circle. To cleanse yourself, shake your hands in front of yourself as if shooing the negativity away and out of your body. This is the quick and simple way. I do recommend using the smudge stick if possible.

Now you are ready to walk the circle. Start from the east and walk around clockwise at least three times. It will take a cycle of three to bring up the energy of the circle, as three is a number of multiplication. If, after three walks, you do not feel the energy in the circle shifting, continue to walk until you feel it is time to stop.

If others are with you, they should follow. When you stop, stop in the direction you are led to and sit in that section of the circle.

When working with others, they may not choose the same direction to stop or they may want to continue to walk until they are led to their special place. Someone may choose to sit in the same direction with you, as this is where they are led, and others may sit in an opposite place. There is no right or wrong. Sharing a space with someone will not take away energy from you or deplete the messages you are receiving.

You may sit with your hands in a receiving position with palms up, or you may decide to cross your hands and concentrate in a contained manner. Some people feel when meditating or becoming in tune with the universal forces, it is not good to cross hands or legs. I have done both and think that your comfort is the most important issue because you need to be relaxed and comfortable for this particular ritual.

Always sit facing inward, toward the center power point. In other words, you may be in the section that is considered north, but once in the north area, you are actually turned and facing south. The message you pick up will be of a southern nature with crossovers of energy from the north. It is not necessary to know what direction you have ended up in, as you can determine that later.

Once you are seated in your direction or message point, calm your mind and relax. Allow the message to come to you. Ask silent questions if you like, and see what answers you intuit. Once you feel you have received your messages or answers from the collective consciousness, take your time and slowly rise.

Give thanks to the energy of the circle by saying something to yourself or out loud such as, “I give thanks to the earth and the life force for guidance.” Make up what you like. You may just say a simple thank-you with a bow of the head. Acknowledge the power from above that has visited to help and guide you. Leave the circle from the west where the Sun goes down, as this gives closure to the ceremony.

Items needed:

A small table or altar covered

with a green cloth; one green

7-day knob candle; rose oil; a

Begin this spell on a Friday night during the waxing moon. Etch your name on the top knob and your lover’s name on the last or bottom knob of the candle. Anoint the candle with the rose oil as you chant:

Place the picture face-up on the table with the Venus pentacle tacle on top of it. Set the candle on the pentacle. As you light the first knob chant the following:

It is around this time of the year that the Chinese celebrate their Harvest Moon Festival. According to Chinese beliefs, the moon influences the crops and is therefore held in high esteem, especially when it is full. The chief symbol of the Moon Festival is the “moon cake,” a small cake made in the shape of a moon. The cake is about an inch thick and filled with sweetened soy bean paste, whole egg yolks, and melon seeds. The cake is backed to a golden brown and served with pomelo, which is similar to a grapefruit except twice as large and very sweet.

Unlike a lot of Chinese festivals, which are preceded by days of preparation and often followed by days of recovery, the Moon Festival only lasts one day. Along with the moon cake, small figures of rabbits and other small animals are made into cookies and placed in small reed cages. The use of the rabbits has special significance. According to Chinese mythology, a rabbit lives in the moon, forever busy pounding out the elixir of life.

St. Catherine was one of the major female saints of the Middle Ages, always portrayed with the spiked wheel on which she was to have been broken, but which itself was broken by a thunderbolt from heaven. According to her legend, she was a virgin of noble birth and exceptional intelligence who bested 50 philosophers in a debate ordered by the emperor. She was known as Catherine of the Wheel and the patron of spinsters. On her day in France, women have the right to ask men to marry.

Money Charm

This is more properly a charm rather than a spell because you have formed a different object (the bag) and given it power through incantation. As always, a money charm like this relies on the energy set up between you and the money. If you recognize that money is a resource, you can adjust the spell to ask for resources rather than money itself.

You will need

• • A SQUARE OF GREEN CLOTH

• • ALLSPICE, BORAGE, LAVENDER AND SAFFRON

• • CRYSTALS (such as garnet, ruby and emerald or rock salt)

• • THREE SILVER COINS

• • GOLD AND SILVER-COLORED THREAD

Method

Hold the three silver coins in your hands. Breathe on them four times and say:

To the spirits of Air I say bring some money my way.

Put the herbs, crystals and coins on the cloth.

Tie the cloth into a bag using eight knots in the thread. (It is probably easiest to fold the thread into two and tie knots round the neck of the bag.)

Hide the bag in a safe, cool, dark place, away from prying eyes for eight days.

After eight days money should be coming in.

Be as realistic as possible, imagining what you will do with the money and how best it will be used. Once you have made the bag, meditate daily on what you want. By using the three silver coins and four breaths you create the vibration of the number seven which is considered to be both a lucky, and spiritual, number.

Money Bottle Spell

Spell bottles were originally created to destroy the power of an evil magician or witch thought to have cast a spell against the bottle’s creator. The bottles consist of a container, usually glass, filled with various objects of magical potency. All are concentrations of energy, created and empowered for specific magical purposes.

You will need

• • TALL, THIN GLASS BOTTLE

• • 5 CLOVES

• • 5 CINNAMON STICKS

• • 5 KERNELS OF DRIED CORN

• • 5 KERNELS OF DRIED WHEAT (OR 5 TEASPOONS WHEAT FLOUR)

Method

Put the ingredients into the bottle, making sure the top is secured tightly. Shake the bottle for five minutes while chanting words such as:

Place the money bottle on a table somewhere in your house. Leave your purse or wallet near the bottle when at home so that the power is transferred.

You should find that money will come to you, perhaps in unexpected ways.

The number five is used to effect change. In financial matters it suggests movement into another phase of material gain

You can if you wish bury this bottle close to your home rather than actually keeping it indoors. If you do this however it is a good idea to acknowledge it in some way every time you pass it. You can do this by leaving a small gift such as a pretty pebble or some wildflower seeds.

Foot Wash for Money

This is a folklore recipe and would strictly only become a spell if an incantation or invocation were added. Black Cohosh is better known as a herb to be used at the time of the menopause, but here is used as a footwash which will lead you to money.

• • CUP OF BOILING WATER

• • SMALL BOTTLE

Method

Soak the root in the cup of boiling water for fifteen minutes. Strain the water and throw away the root. Put the liquid in the bottle for seven days and leave it alone.

On the eighth day, rub the liquid all over the bottom of your shoes. Be alert to your own intuition until money comes your way.

It is said that you will either find money, win it, or gain it in some legal manner. This, by its method, cannot really be used to gain a specific amount, but you can bear in mind what your needs are.

Fast Luck Oil

This oil contains herbal essences, all of which have the effect of quickening up a spell. However, there is need for a word of warning, since many people nowadays have sensitivities to so many substances. Wintergreen if ingested internally is highly toxic so you should be careful when dealing with it and cinnamon oil can irritate the skin. When used to dress a candle however the combined oils are a speedy way of making things happen.

If you wish you can suspend a small piece of alkanet root (Bloodroot) in the bottle for a deep red color and extra power You can also, for money spells, add gold or silver glitter Method Carefully combine the essential and carrier oils in the bottle. Shake well and repeat as you do so at least three times.

Now add the other ingredients if you are using them and leave the bottle in a cool dark place for at least twenty four hours for the oils to blend. After this time you can use the oil to dress your candles. Remember that, as you are drawing luck towards you, you should dress the candle from the top down.
If you are using Fast Luck Oil for a money spell concentrate on money coming towards you, use a green candle and repeat the words above. Use a brown candle if you have a business deal you need to accelerate, but this time it is wise to add a few flakes of silver or gold glitter. To bring love into your life use a pink candle, visualize your ideal person coming into your life and repeat the words above, adding:

Let the candles burn out safely.

You should have some indication that this routine is working within about thirty six hours. If there is none, then you must consider what obstacles there are to progress. These may have come to light since you began the spell and you can attempt to remove them before carrying out the procedure again.
