The variants of the courtly lovers (representing skillful use of the sex force) or the man sleeping it off under the tree (use of drugs to alter consciousness) are also traditional avenues for tapping this primal force. Human interest in higher states propels us to the frontiers of consciousness, where we cannot always control what happens. The Moon card represents the ultimate test of a soul’s integrity, where the membrane between self and the Unknown is removed, and the drop of individuality reenters the Ocean of Being. Independently Entwined

Whilst Venus spends the vast majority of this retrograde period in Leo, she actually shifts direction in Virgo. In this detail lies hidden the key to her entire retrograde journey: it’s all about the nuances, not the bigger picture. Venus in Leo is flamboyant and demonstrative, passionate and radiant, but in the subtle shaping hands of Virgo she knows that the most reliable self-confidence is born of detailed self-knowledge: familiarity with the twists and turns of one’s psyche and their influence upon our well-being and relationships. When retrograde, Venus reveals the underbelly of those relationships, inviting us to see what may otherwise be hidden. She uncovers the subtle dynamics which shape our interactions with each other whilst reminding us the most important relationship is with the self.

No person is an island, she reminds us. In an interconnected world dependence is not a failing but a fact, not a weakness but a fundamental truth, the realisation of which may just save us all.

It is time to explore our dependency, to face the thoughts and feelings triggered when we recognise our very life rests in the hands of another. In truth we each hold the other in our hands, nourishing their blossoming or crushing their delicate unfolding petals with our own need to control. We each owe a huge duty of care to the other as much as to ourselves and must be willing to embrace each day the vulnerability of inter-dependency for our own well-being and survival.

Venus reminds us that self-reliance is only a strength when it enables giving and receiving in equal measure. We will need it in the coming months to ride the ups and downs of change and stand firm in the face of challenge which threatens to steer us off course. But we equally need others to ride alongside us, cheering each other on when the going gets tough, sharing supplies for the journey and each other’s dreams. We are not islands in a sea of self-protection but instead one life, living through each of us to nourish and nurture itself. As Venus journeys back through Leo she invites us to know ourselves as each other, to celebrate dependence and to honour the truth that we each hold the life of another in our hearts and in our hands.

This was to be expected this month, but fear not – things are getting brighter. We move from lunar-ruled Cancer to sunny Leo tomorrow, and Mercury will soon follow suit.

The moon has had such a strong pull on our emotions, it could feel a bit overwhelming at times. This is what happens when you have a full moon on the first and last days of the month. Full moons bring up unconscious buried emotions. Couple that with July 2015 being a 15 Universal Month (7 +2+0+1+5 = 15) and you’re bound to see your shadow more often.

15, in numerology, is another vibration of the number 6 (1+5 = 6). In the Tarot, 6 is the number of The Lovers. 15 illuminates the shadow side of love. Not in a scary way – simply to help you bring light to dark places, and love those parts of yourself you fear other people won’t like or accept. When you hide parts of yourself for fear of rejection, you are not allowing others to love you completely as you are.

This spell is said to help one let go of painful feelings of grief. It is for those times in life when it seems impossible to feel joy again, such as after losing someone close to you.

Items Needed:
A smoky quartz gemstone
Bowl of water
Three tablespoons of sea salt

The Spell:
Begin by holding the stone in your power hand. See your grief in your mind’s eye. Visualize the grief moving from within yourself and through your hand to the stone. As you do this, say:

Banishing stone,
Fill yourself with my grief,
so that I may feel joy again,
So be it, blessed be!

Stirring counterclockwise, mix the sea salt into the bowl of water, then add the smoky quartz stone. Swish the stone around three times in a counterclockwise motion. Leave the stone in the water for a few minutes, then take the stone outside and safely throw it as far as you can away from yourself.

Adapting A Spell for Your Own Needs

 

Today you will find many books on spellcraft that contain instructions for casting spells. You can also purchase ready-made kits that include all the ingredients necessary for a spell. Nonetheless, if those instructions or ingredients don’t make sense to you or break your personal ethics, the spell will not work.

The best spells are those you create yourself or adapt to suit your own purpose. The process of collecting ingredients, preparing them, and designing the steps of your spell focuses your mind on your intention and adds energy to the spell. Sometimes you must adapt a tried and true spell because you can’t get the designated components. For example, if you lived in New England and used ash leaves or bark in protection spells but then moved to Texas, you would not be able to find such plant life; you could then compensate by substituting another ingredient, such as basil.

With the pervious example in mind, it’s easy to see that there will be many times when a Witch or Wiccan will want to adapt a spell or devise oone of her own. How do you begin the process? Adapting a spell is far easier than creating one, so let’s start there. When a Witch examines a spell, she looks for continuity and comprehensiveness.
Do the spell target your goal through its words, actions and components?

Does it do so on a multisensual level (involving your hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell)?

Does every part of the spell make sense and excite your higher sentiments?

If the answer to any of these questions is no, try to find a substitute. To illustrate, many old love spells call for blood as components. But modern awareness of disease (or squeamishness) might make blood inappropriate. Instead a witch could use red wine. The red juice from crushed raspberries, strawberries, or passion fruit (fruit associated with love) would also work well. In this manner, she can still follow the basic spell while replying on components that are safe and support her ethics.

Choosing your own ingredients when adapt a spell, rather than following a prescribed formulas allows you to fine-tune a spell to your specific needs. Once you understand the basic natures and symbolism of various components, you can mix and match them to create exactly the right combination of energies.

Cheyenne Frontier Days

This six-day annual event is the remnant of the old Mexican-American American rodeo contests held in the American Southwest shortly after the Civil War. They flourished in Texas and by 1880 were nationally popularized by touring, circus-like extravaganzas ganzas such as Buffalo Bill Cody’s “Wild West Show.”

 

Established in 1897, Cheyenne Frontier Days has become an elaborate folk event and developed traditions of its own. For example, in 1987 the festival treated more than 30,000 hungry spectators to its free breakfast of pancakes, ham, and coffee. The batter for the more than 100,000 pancakes was mixed in a cement truck so that no one would have to wait in line for more than 20 minutes.

 

The food was prepared by the 390-member Cheyenne Kiwanis Club and included 3,600 pounds of pancake mix, 1,130 pounds of butter, 300 gallons of syrup, 2,800 pounds of ham, and 520 gallons of coffee. That year, people from more than 50 states and 20 foreign countries enjoyed breakfast during Frontier days. In addition to the great food, Frontier Days celebrates with old time rodeo contests that include trick-riding, riding, roping, bronco-busting, and pony races.

Magickal Goody Of The Day – Long, Hard Day, Try This Soothing Foot Soak

Here is a simple and relaxing foot soak recipe. I make this often as gifts and have yet to hear a complaint!

Ingredients:

20 small or 10 medium sized SMOOTH rocks, those iridescent glass rocks like they sell in various stores–try dollar stores, many times they have them inexpensively–to put in vases to hold plants and if all else fails, use marbles!

Heavy Duty, Sturdy Plastic Tub

1-2 of your favorite tea bags

2-4 cups (depending on size and depth of your tub) very warm water

Put rocks in tub, and add warm water and tea bags. Allow tea bags to steep and water to cool, until you are comfortable with the fragrance and water temperature. Immerse feet in the fragrant and relaxing soak. Rub feet gently on rocks, massaging the bottoms of them. This soak is great for tired feet.   After soak: Remove tea bags and allow to dry. Open bags up and remove herbs. Use the herbs either in potpourri or as compost for your garden. Put rocks on a towel and allow to dry, for use the next time you need a relaxing escape!
