Pagan Studies – Burying Spell

Pagan Studies  –  Burying Spell

Perform a burying spell and lay to rest an old hurt, a dead  relationship, or an outgrown habit. Choose a symbol that embodies the aspect of your life that you need to let go of— a cigarette for example can represent an obsolete
love affair, out-of-date expectations, or your poor self-image. Hold the symbol in your hands and tell it goodbye.  Wrap it up in paper and string, using an appropriate color—red for anger, hurt, or old passions; black for
banishing and symbolic death; yellow for healing an old wound; purple for spiritual concerns. Find a quiet location and dig a hole. Bury the symbol, cover with earth, and dust your hands off three times, saying:

Pagan Studies -Money Smoke Spell

Pagan Studies  Money Smoke Spell

Pass a coin or bill through smoke of burning sage to clear it of all negative associations. Visualize a world where money is available to everyone. Imagine that money will be there when you need it. Take the coin or bill and place it on your altar or other personal space. Surround it with a circle of stones and crystals, and imagine this as a protective barrier to keep the funds safe. Sprinkle dried basil over the circle and chant:

There is no need that can’t be met,
I have the means to pay all debts.
The funds will come, and bring no harm.
In love and trust, I bless this charm.

After one entire moon cycle, put the coin or bill away in a safe place.

Today’s Goddess: OSHUN

Today’s Goddess: OSHUN

Saint Agnes’s Day (Various Locatios)

Themes: Divination; Love
Symbols: Flowing Water; Seashells; Amber Beads

About Oshun: Oshun is a beautiful, oracular Goddess of love. Generous and beneficent, she opens her eyes to let us peek into what the future holds for relationships. According to legends, Oshun didn’t always know how to tell the future. She was taught by Obatala, one skilled in divination, in return for retrieving his stolen clothing from Elegba. But Elegba exacted his price too. Once Oshun learned to divine, she had to teach all the other orishas the fortune-telling secrets.

To Do Today: Traditionally, Saint Agnes’s Day is spent divining information about love’s path and relationships in the coming year. Following Oshun’s example, make a fortune-telling tool from three shells, each of which has a “top” and “bottom.” If shells aren’t handy, use three coins. Think of a “yes” or “no” question related to love. Three tops (or heads) mean “yes.” Two tops mean things are generally positive, but uncertain. One top indicates a “wait” or a negative response, and three bottoms is a definite “no.” Put the shells under your pillow before you go to bed to dream of future loves.

Or, to encourage Oshun’s problem-solving skills in a relationship, carry a small piece of amber or wear a piece of amber-colored clothing when you meet your loved one to talk things over.

Light A Candle Today!

Light A Candle Today!
In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

Runecast for Friday, 1/21

Today it’s Othala from Tyr’s Aett Othala pronounced “oath-awe-law” (O: Ancestral property) Inherited property or possessions, a house, a home. What is truly important to one. Group order, group prosperity. Land of birth, spiritual heritage, experience and fundamental values. Aid in spiritual and physical journeys. Source of safety, increase and abundance.

The seed of an old tree must make its own roots to become a tree itself. Stand on your own feet. Events connected with this rune may include a move of house or change of career. Whatever your situation, it’s important to your future development to decide whether or not you can be independent now.  This rune may reflect your need to invest your money and talents in your own business, or to buy your own house or premises, so that you can live apart from others. You may feel nervous about the amount of cash which is initially needed to set things up, but from the long-term perspective, you are on a path which will allow you to assimilate fresh experiences and to use your talents to the full.

Othala Reversed or Merkstave: Lack of customary order, totalitarianism, slavery, poverty, homelessness. Bad karma, prejudice, clannishness, provincialism. What a man is bound to. (Note: the reversed or merkstave definitions are included only for reference as they apply to a multi-rune cast and not to a single rune that’s drawn blind from the pouch)

As with all, take only what feels right to you and disregard the rest.

Power Animal of the Day: Eagle

The Eagle

Greatness          Leadership          Independence

A potent symbol of true greatness, the eagle brings many gifts into your life.

Eagle energy will flood you with courage, a free spirit and independence that will take you beyond the limits of your life to date.  Your own greatness will begin to emerge as you welcome eagle power into your life and feel it surging within you.

The eagle lives in the tall trees and high cliffs and soars above life with majesty, blessed with extremely keen eyesight.  You will find that you are now able to stay above the fray and still know exactly what is going on and when to dip down and utilize your new-found powers of leadership.  Be true to your beliefs; lead and others will follow, for you are the eagle.

Brave and true, filled with greatness and deeply worthy of the respect which is shown you, you are the eagle

‘May we live in peace without weeping. May our joy outline the lives we touch without ceasing. And may our love fill the world, angel wings tenderly beating.’

Power of the Flowers Daily Reading: Apple Blossom

Apple Blossom

    Beautiful apple blossoms sparkle,
    Like multitudes of tiny stars.
Teach me hope and faith, I pray,
So that I may offer your cosmic riches,
    Each and every earthly day.

Latin: Malus communis

Color(s): White and Pink

Archetype: Astarte, Queen of the Stars. Astarte was the “true sovereign of the world,” perpetually destroying the old in order to give rise to the new. She ruled over all the stars in heavens, and as the mother of all star-children, gave birth to the mysterious prototype of the Virgin Mary.

Signature: In the spring, the apple tree produces blossoms in delicate pink and pure, five-petaled, white varieties. By their delightful fragrance and store of nectar, they attract swarms of bees, and as a result of this fertilization, the fruit develops, becoming in autumn the succulent, ripe apple.

Healing Properties: Apple blossom purifies the emotions, assists the body in ridding itself of poisons from the past, and restores hope to one’s inner life.

Healing: You are offered a “star-filled” gift from the Apple Blossom. Astarte’s association with Aphrodite and Venus, “the Morning Star,” highlights the power of immense love and hope available to you during times of creative transformation. In Native American mythology, the Evening Star, wata-jis, heralds the emergence of the Starry Medicine Bowl in its full glory. Its presence is thought to offer a glimpse into the profound mysteries of life, death and rebirth. In many cultures, stars have come to represent hope, birth, and change. Astarte, for example, holds the golden star, while gazing with wonder into its magical depths, for she knows that the star is never stagnant. Five is the number of creative change, holding all potential within its holographic form. The star resides within the apple, a symbol of the feminine. Just as you must bite into an apple in order to expose its buried treasure, the star you must also go to the intuitive core of your psyche in order to re-imagine and create life anew. The star of hope that Astarte offers is not the whole answer, but in some elusive way, hope ushers in faith, and deep in our hearts we begin to believe that our “Morning Star will rise again.”

The apple blossoms surrounding Astarte represent the flowering potential that is yours and yours alone. The medicine of the great Bowl of Stars surrounds you, as the cosmic canopy of lighted stars manifests visions of new hope. Deep in your own heart of hearts, lives the star Queen’s love, rich and plentiful, helping you to cleanse your soul aura and emerge vibrant and healthy.

‘May we live in peace without weeping. May our joy outline the lives we touch without ceasing. And may our love fill the world, angel wings tenderly beating.’

Dream Incense (2) Dream Herb

Mugwort derives from the Eastern hemisphere. Other plants served similar purpose in the Western hemisphere, including one that earned the nom de plume, “Dream Herb.” Calea zacatechichi is a native of the Mexican rainforest. Burning dreams herb as incense extracts its power.

  1. Burn it in the bedroom before going to sleep, allowing enough time for the incense to burn completely.

  2. Do not go to sleep until the incense has completely burned, inhaling the aroma instead and concentrating upon the dream adventures one wishes to experience.

  3. Keep doors and windows closed while the incense burns, but then immediately provide ventilation before going to sleep.

Dream Incense (1)Delphic Dreams

Powdered bay laurel leaves

Cedar wood chips or shavings

Storax gum resin

This incense is a traditional formula, with all ingredients having associations with the Oracle at Delphi. The herbs included cover all bases in order to provide you with an enhanced dream experience:

  • Bay laurel leaves assist dream recall and enhance prophetic ability

  • Cedarwood clarifies dreams and sharpens awareness of detail

  • Storax promotes peaceful sleep and soothes insomnia

Grind the ingredients together. Sprinkle on lit charcoal and burn.

Dream Incense

Dream incense is not burned while you sleep and dream; the burning process should be complete just prior to actually going to bed.

  1. Close doors and windows prior to burning the incense, to intensify its effects and fragrance.

  2. Place the incense burner on a nightstand or on a safe area near the bed.

  3. Burn the incense.

  4. When the incense has completely burned, provide ventilation by opening doors and/or windows as appropriate and then go to sleep. Don’t wait too long or the fragrance may dissipate.
