If you got ’em, go ahead and light ’em because today is ‘Worldwide Candle Lighting Day.’ Let’s take a closer look at some of the ways Feng Shui says that candles can illuminate certain aspirations in your life. For starters, this philosophy prescribes lighting a pair of pink candles in the ‘Romance’ area of your main floor or bedroom in order to light the way for a perfect partner of the happily ever after kind. Lighting nine red candles in the ‘Fame’ area is believed to bring plenty of recognition and reward while also heating up opportunities to create a more fabulous future. A group called ‘The Compassionate Friends’ asks each of us to light a candle on this night at seven o’clock in remembrance of all the children who have died at any age from any cause. This day is set aside to commemorate the memory of wee ones who have left the world too soon. Today you can participate in a worldwide event that promises that you can be the light that you were born to be.
It’s a perfect time to start a campaign since it’s ‘Letter Writing Day.’ If you’re planning on penning a letter to Santa, then by all means write it in red ink. And don’t forget to seal it in a red envelope as well. According to Feng Shui, both of these actions activate energies of fortune and luck. Speaking of sealing, forget about doing that with a kiss and try this next empowering method instead. When the letter has been signed and sealed, place it on a table that’s covered with a big black cloth. Pour salt around the letter so it forms a silver circle and then visualize that the note will work wonders for you. Fold the cloth to cover the letter and kiss the folds while sending rays of pink love from your heart to this now mystical memo. Release the letter and send it on its merry way! Soon enough you should see your own special delivery!
Today celebrates the feast day of Saint Nicholas of Myra, a fourth century Byantine bishop who is widely revered for his generosity, kindness and compassion. In many European traditions, the night before ‘Saint Nicholas Day’ is when children display their shoes in prominent positions, like in front of their bedroom door or by the dining room table. The story goes that in order for Saint Nicholas to fill those shoes with gifts, the little ones had to be fast asleep. Feng Shui says that your shoes can also bring you another gift when positioned in a specific manner. This philosophy says that you can walk into excellent opportunities for a new job if you turn around all around the shoes in your closet. Simply position them so the toes are pointing as if the shoes were going to walk out on their own. The shoes should be put in pairs and those that are outdated or never worn should be weeded out and given to someone who can use them. Following in the footsteps of generous old Saint Nick, acting charitably while also activating your intention is the probably the best gift of all!
Is it a coincidence that ‘Bathtub Party Day’ and ‘Repeal Day’ both fall on the same date? And even though I’ll drink to the latter, I’m going to stick with the former for today’s tip. This next bath, taken from ancient Taoist Feng Shui texts, will help to wash digestive difficulties right down the drain. Add ten drops of sandalwood essential oil to your bath water. Place three tablespoons of soybeans, two tablespoons of fennel seeds and one tablespoon of rice into a net and suspend that in the bathwater. Reclining in the tub, close your eyes and gently massage the slightly tender spots directly beneath your shoulder blades. Also massage the heels of your feet. Twenty minutes of this healing bath and you’ll feel good as new — or even better!
Santa might be checking his list twice, but you can completely bypass him by making your own list and checking it nine times! And if you check that list at three specific times during the next nine days in a row you won’t believe the gifts you’ll receive! Today is ‘Santa’s List Day,’ so take out the red pen and white paper and make a list of nine dearly held dreams and desires. Write all nine wishes out completely. Put this list under your pillow and each night before going to sleep take it out and slowly read it aloud. Visualize what your life would look like if you had already received what you’re dreaming about. Then try to think only of that list as you fall off to sleep. Read the list again as soon as you awake the next morning, giving it your undivided attention. And then read it one more time in the middle of the day. At the end of the nine days, take this ‘wish list’ outside and burn it. Santa can read the smoke signals but the joke’s on him since your dreams are already heading your way!
It’s ‘Stay at Home Because You’re Well Day’ and I support that same intention! If you want to stay well all throughout the year then follow that old advice and eat an apple every day. Recent research has shown that students who ate two apples a day were less stressed, had fewer headaches and were more emotionally stable than those who did not. Apple eaters were also shown to experience fewer colds, have clearer skin and be unaffected by arthritis. According to ages-old legend, even the smell of fresh apples was believed to bestow longevity and restore flagging physical strength. So don’t forget to eat an apple or two every day. Go ahead, keep that darn doctor away and have a happy and healthy holiday!
The odds are fairly high that you might be hosting holiday visitors. That makes this the best time to take advantage of some ‘Friends and Family’ Feng Shui that lends warmth and wonder to that space. Find a fun and meaningful picture of those who are visiting and place that photo inside a wooden frame. This picture should not include you or anyone who lives under your roof. Place the framed photo in the guest bedroom where your visitors will be sleeping and position it anywhere they can easily see it. In the Feng Shui philosophy, activating the element of wood will bring balanced and harmonious energies to any family or friends agenda. You are nurturing and growing the ‘family’ tree, so to speak. Simply by showcasing your visitor’s individual energies in a special place in your home, you are also illustrating that they are a top priority in your life. Gift your loved ones with this framed photo before they leave. It will serve as a reminder of your warm and wonderful times together and as a promise of many more to come.
On today’s ‘Red Planet Day’ we honor Mars, the planet most associated with bravado, courage and fire. If you want to attract or increase any of those qualities in your own life, simply wear something red today. Red initiates and intrigues. Breathe fiery red into your entire body and even into the aura around you. Make red work for you because you sizzle, you shine and, yes — you are fierce! Just like Mars. A perfect and rosy planetary partnering!
Being that today is ‘Cyber Monday,’ I think it’s time for another money-attracting tip in case you get all caught up in the financial frenzy. If you’re looking to up your income or get a bit of year-end bonus, then ignite your ‘Fame’ or ‘Recognition and Rewards’ arena. When properly assessed this space promises to bring sweet just desserts that will boost your bottom line as well. To activate the ‘Fame’ area, Feng Shui says place nine red candles there and light them for a few minutes once a day for nine consecutive days, all the while envisioning your own recognition and reward. On the ninth day allow the candles to burn completely out before expecting your bank balance to heat and head up!
Today is ‘International Aura Awareness Day.’ Aura is the energy that surrounds each of us that stops negative energies from invading our bodies. And this aura occasionally needs to be cleansed if it’s to operate at highest capacity. Essential oils can be used for auric clearing and today I’d like offer scents that can assist in this cleanse. Use clove essential oil to resolve difficult work or home relationship issues. Cinnamon offers full protection from other people’s drama while cedarwood can help clear away stress. Simply diffuse any of these essential oils by putting ten drops in a bowl of boiling water and breathing in the clearing, calming scent for ten to 15 minutes. Afterwards, you’ll feel refreshed and renewed and you and your aura will be ready to face the world again.
Today is a ‘Beautiful Day.’ And here are some suggestions from ancient Taoist dictates that promise inner and outer beauty! It’s recommended that these exercises be performed just once a day in order to build all the beauty your heart can hold. Meditate for five minutes a day. Read at least one chapter from a book each day. Do a good deed. Compliment someone. Walk for thirty minutes. Clean up your home. Then, at the end of the day before sleeping, reflect on all the good you’ve done and all the good things you’ve been blessed with. Beautiful suggestions on a beautiful day for a far more beautiful, happy and fulfilled you.
On ‘World Toilet Day’ I thought we might take a look at how to make negative bathroom energies go right down the drain. But let’s first see why Feng Shui suggests that the bathroom is considered such a negative space. According to this modality, the bathroom is the home’s place for cleansing and elimination and is believed to impact the family’s wealth and health as it carries connotations of uncleanliness and waste removal. Therefore, to keep this room from depleting both your bank account and life force, you might want to try some of the following solutions. Keep the bathroom door closed at all times. This keeps healthy energy from entering that room that can then get flushed away. Speaking of which, keep the toilet seat closed at all times. You should also keep a stopper in the shower and sink drains, as drains sap energy. Lastly, you can hang a full length mirror on the outside of the bathroom door so it will reflect the Chi of the house away from bathroom while also making the room ‘vanish’ from everyone’s attention. Enact these tips and you can save money, energy and time spent at the doctor’s office.
Today is ‘Occult Day,’ a time where old world beliefs meet empowered modern day lifestyles. This day can be considered quite mysterious and magical with energies that travel outside the realm of the natural world. So let’s get advice from Valerie Worth, a most revered alchemical author who tells us that in order to sweeten another’s disposition we should follow this age-old advice: ‘Thus turn his scorn to kindest love; Steal from him the left-hand glove; With shining sugar fill it full; And tie it that it may not spill, with satin ribbons, blue and green; Then when the deed may pass unseen, Hide it underneath his pillow; He shall sleep, and melt, and mellow.’ In other words, if you’re not seeing eye to eye with one of your nearest and dearest, take one of their left-hand gloves and fill it up with sugar, tie it shut with blue and green satin ribbons and then hide it under their pillow. This might be magic, but Feng Shui has an easier cure for this agenda. If you’re quarreling with someone, simply send your Guardian Angel to see their Watcher Angel. Ask your angel to send understanding, healing and forgiveness to the other and envision this meeting. Once you practice this visualization you will see your sweetie softening and the anxiety disappear. Either way, there’s much magic to be had here and this is the perfect day to perform it!
Celebrate all the energy that Teddy, Yogi and any other bear brings to you during today’s ‘Have a Party With Your Bear Day.’ You guys should especially honor them since Feng Shui says bears and males share a lot in common. In fact, this philosophy states that placing an image, statue or picture of a bear in the ‘Helpful People’ area of your main floor can energetically support your status as the family’s male breadwinner. Feng Shui also advices that before traveling for any length of time you should leave a small statue of a bear in one of your home’s windows, as this placement offers safety from burglary or theft. Either way, having a bear around will bring you strength and protection in many other ways.
Today honors all the members of the United States Armed Forces who have proudly served their country. Our vets have protected and served us by fighting to keep our country safe and by preserving our rights and way of life. Since today is ‘Veteran’s Day’ I thought I’d post three ways you can thank a veteran. The first is the most obvious: Just say ‘thanks.’ Just that simple act gets good vibes going every time. If you’re more motivated you might volunteer to serve the veterans in your community in some way, or even drop an anonymous ‘Thank You’ note at the local VA. The last thing you can do is to visit the Wounded Warriors Foundation website. Giving back with kindness, gratitude and love is what today is all about.
Today is Election Day in the United States and we’ll be getting out the vote to determine our next president. If I were running for office (or trying to win any contest), I would focus on the ‘Fame’ area of my home or office. I would clear it of clutter and make sure the space was organized and clean. Then I would enlist a symbol of a horse to see me across the proverbial finish line. According to Feng Shui, the horse symbolizes perseverance, strength, and success. It’s believed that placing a symbol or statue of a horse in the ‘Fame’ area of your home or on your office desk will enhance all those characteristics to put you in the Winner’s Circle!
Not only is it ‘Mischief Night’ and ‘Haunted Refrigerator Night,’ but it’s also ‘Checklist Day.’ So I want you to take out your paper and red pen and make a checklist of nine goals that you would like to achieve in the next year, starting from now. Read that list every day, three times a day, once upon awakening, again at midday, and lastly right before bed. Research has shown that only three percent of people reading this right now will write this list, but those who do will become leaders who will enjoy tremendous success. Don’t you want to be one of that three percent? Check off creating your very own checklist on this day and let someone else make all the mischief. You’ve got millions to make!
Today I’d like to blend the energies of today’s ‘National Pharmacy Buyer Day’ with October’s ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ by telling you about a few supplements from Mother Nature’s pharmacy. Many health practitioners extol the importance of Vitamin D in creating healthy cells, protecting bones and boosting the immune system. Studies show that Vitamin D can also help prevent breast, ovarian and prostrate cancer. In fact, a recent study found that women with healthy levels of Vitamin D in their systems were significantly less at risk of developing cancer. Reports also state that a compound found in red grapes and red wine called resveratrol could also be critical in preventing the formation and spread of certain cancer. The author of that study, Eleanor Rogan, also believes that supplementing with resveratrol can actually stop the entire progression that can lead to breast cancer. As with any advice I offer that deals with illness or imbalance, always check with a qualified professional first. But if you’re looking to proactively end the fear of contracting certain cancers, then these two supplements are a great place to start!
Marigolds mean money in Feng Shui, especially if you enjoy them during October! Place a big basket of brilliant marigolds on any spare space inside your kitchen, long considered by Feng Shui to be the room of abundance. Once you create this blooming intention then you can watch as your own bottom line sprouts positive ‘green shoots.’ And, while you’re manifesting your next million, double the financial fun by placing a mirror under the basket to bring in twice the energies and marigold income-increasing power. Prosperity times two!
Today’s ‘World Menopause Day’ can really get one hot under the collar. If you or anyone you know has cycled into this next season of life then you’ve probably already experienced hot flashes. A great holistic remedy for night sweats, day flashes and other symptoms of menopause can come through a combination of three herbs, all readily available at most health food stores. The first is dong-quai, the second chaste tree and the third is damiana. Most alternative practitioners recommend taking two capsules (or one drop in warm water) once a day at noon. You should you taper off the herbs once the symptoms start to subside. Reduce the amount you take by half for a week and then half of that dosage for another week. Many people tell me that they’ve restored hormonal balance by using this cure, but always check with a qualified practitioner before starting any treatment.
