To Help Change Enemies Into Friends

TO HELP CHANGE ENEMIES INTO FRIENDS

Take a photograph of your enemy and pass it through the rising smoke of jasmine, orange, vanilla or violet incense. As you do this, recite the following incantation 3 times.

Enemy, enemy, turn into friend
Let all ill will, now come to an end.

If you do not have photograph of your enemy, you can use a square piece of blue parchment paper upon which you have written his or her full name and birth date, if known. After reciting the incantation for the third time, take the photograph or blue parchment and put it in a small box along with a beryl gemstone. Fill the box with vervain, cover it with a lid, and then store it in an undisturbed place. For best results, perform this spell when you moon is full.

Vestalia: Vesta’s Day

Color: Red
Element: Fire
Altar: Today the altar is set up in the kitchen, in front of the stove or fireplace, at the point which is most “hearth”. Before setting it up, everyone pitches in to clean the kitchen thoroughly, and purify it. All halls leading into the kitchen are swept as well, and everyone enters barefoot with cleanly washed feet. Upon a red cloth set a bowl of water, one large red candle, bread baked the night before, and kitchen implements.
Offerings: Promote domestic harmony.
Daily Meal: Breads and baked goods.

Invocation to Vesta

Hail Vesta, Lady of the Central Fire,
Flame of the Hearth
Keeper of the Inner Circle
Faceless One
Eldest of the Olympians
Lady of the Pantry
Whose open hands dispense hospitality
Chimney and cooking fire
Lady of routine and dailiness
To miss your quiet strength
In the rush of our sudden lives
Would be as great a disservice
As forgetting the air we breathe.
Teach us to take our time, Lady.
Teach us of the holiness of step after step
Chore after chore, moving in small circles
Around the hearth of our own beings.

Chant (spoken, not sung):
I circle my hearth from without
And I focus the work of my hands;
I circle my hearth from within
And I focus the work of my heart;
Every work of my hands
Is a victory won;
Every thing that I do
Is another thing done.

(All share bread, and pitch in together to make more, which can be saved or given away.)

Homemade Dog Bones

by Annie B. Bond

By making your own dog bones you are providing your pet with wholesome food and are assured that you are not feeding them animal byproducts of unknown origin. Keep your eyes out for dog bone cookie cutters; they are frequently
sold in kitchen supply stores.

(Adapted from Rodale’s Book of Practical Formulas)

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup corn meal
  • 1/2 cup soy flour
  • 1/2 cup ground seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon linseed oil (available in health food stores)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup unsulfured molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk

Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. Mix to blend. Add the liquid ingredients.

Stir, adding more milk if necessary to make a ball that can be kneaded and rolled out on a cutting board. Roll out dough, and cut out dog bone shapes using a cookie cutter or knife. Place on a well-greased baking pan, and bake at 350 F for 25-35 minutes, or until browned.

To Overcome An Enemy

To Obtain An Enemy

Take a brown candle and write your enemy’s name three times on it. Place it in a bowl filled with brown sugar. Light the candle and affirm:  “Your hostility, I’ll overcome. In day of nine, your friendship is mine.” Do this before you go to bed. Allow the candle to burn itself out while you sleep. In the morning take what is left of the candle wax and the brown sugar and throw it in your enemy’s yard. Do this for nine consecutive days without fail.
