Let’s Talk Witch – Color Magic

Native American Comments & Graphics

Let’s Talk Witch – COLOR MAGIC

We all use and make decisions about color in our daily lives— what colors we wear, which paints we use, the cars we drive, the food we eat, even the shampoos we buy. A whole host of decisions we make every day are at least partly decided by color. Most people have a favorite color. Mine is purple, and most of my home is decorated in shades of this color. Even my cloak is a beautiful shade of heather. It is a color that I am comfortable with. You will have your own favorite shade that features prominently in your life— and hopefully you have an understanding partner if your favorite color is acid green or Barbie pink!

The use of color can really enhance your magic and spell work, because each color lends its own energy and its associations to your spells and rituals. There are many ways to include color magic in your work— from candle magic to knot magic, from spell bags to plant magic. In fact, all of your magic will be greatly enhanced by your own knowledge of which colors work in which ways. I believe that there is no right or wrong color chart; what works for one will not necessarily work for all. If a certain color means a certain thing to you, who’s to say that you’re wrong and some impersonal chart is right? For example, when you think of the Goddess, do you see her as white? Silver? Gold? Blue? Who’s to tell you which is the right color?

The right color is the one with which you feel confident and comfortable working. And the right colors are the ones you can remember. If you want to create a spell spontaneously, you don’t want to have to go looking for a color-correspondence chart to find out which color works in a certain way. You have to trust what’s in your heart and work in a way that is true to you. I suggest you create your own color chart in your Book of Shadows. Spend some time thinking about what each color evokes for you and write it down. If you need some guidelines, below is the basic list I use in my own magic. Maybe it will give you a starting point or help you add to your own list. If you already work with color, trying exploring some of the more intricate shades of each color to expand your catalog.

White: protection and purity; use in all magick as a universal color
Black: to absorb negativity and spirit contact; for banishing spells
Yellow: confidence and growth; for harmony spells
Red: strength and passion; for power spells
Blue: health and patience; for awareness spells
Purple: peace and meditation; for blessing and spells
Pink: relaxation and friendship; for love spells
Green: nature and Fae magic; for wealth
Brown: earth and animals; for grounding spells
Orange: luck and vitality; for strength spells
Silver: the Goddess and the moon; for balance spells
Gold: the God and the sun; for power spells

Every color, of course, has varying shades— from pastel to deep or bright. Make your list as simple or as complicated as you like. A good way to build your own list is to have someone read off colors to you and you say the first thing that comes into your head that you associate with each color. That way, you will know that you are working with what’s true to your heart and with something that you will remember.

The ways in which you can use color in your magic are as varied as the colors themselves. Once you have your own color chart, there are many ways to incorporate each color into your magickal workings.

Let’s Talk Witch – Candle Magic Basics

Candle Magic Basics

Candle Magic has been around for many years. It’s an easy, yet powerful form of magic that can help you apply the energies of the body with the powers of the mind to obtain your desires. Some candle magic may have to be repeated over a period of days. Therefore, you will want to place your candles in an area that will not be disturbed. It’s best to avoid rooms with a TV, radio noise or disturbances of any kind. Candle magic should be performed in a low traffic area whenever possible. A bedroom is often ideal for such work.

As with all magical tools, the candle made by the practitioner for a specific purpose captures the energy of the practitioner. Some prefer to work with beeswax candles, as they believe these are more powerful because they are produced from nature. But any type of candles can be used for candle magic. Just remember to cleanse and consecrate them prior to use.

Cleansing removes all the negative energies that the candle may have picked up along the way. You want your candles to be as free of psychic debris as possible. Submerge the candle in salt (sea salt if possible) and then ask the God and Goddess to bless it. No formal words or ritual is needed. Simply speak from your heart.

Many Wiccans like to dress their candle with oil. Use whatever oil you prefer. If your candle will be burned to bring something to you, rub the oil on the candle in a downward motion from the top to the middle and then from the bottom to the middle. To send something away from you, rub the oil from the middle of the candle out to the ends. Never make a back and forth motion as this defeats the purpose. Dab the remaining oil from your fingers onto your third eye and on your breastbone. Then say the following:

“I cleanse and consecrate this candle in the name of the God and Goddess. May it burn with strength in the service of the light.”

State and/ or visualize your intent for the candle as you light it.

Some will also inscribe their candle with a name or word to represent its purpose. If you have an Athame, you can use it to inscribe your candle. The same principle as dressing the candle is used. To draw something to you, write from the top to the middle, and then from the bottom to the middle. To repel things, write from the middle to the ends. Next is a list of traditional candle colors used in magic, with a brief description of their most common magical uses. White candles can be used as a substitute for any color. Keep lots on hand!

WOTC Extra – White Candle Spell for Blessings

WHITE CANDLE SPELL FOR BLESSING

Get a white candle — either a plain one (offertory, pillar, or taper) or a figural one in the gender of the person you want to bless. Carve the person’s full name on the candle, then dress it with Blessing Oil or Holy Oil. For more power, you may place a name-paper of the person, or a photo, or some personal item of theirs (such as a bit of hair or a snippet of clothing) either under the candle or next to it. One easy way to do this is to place the paper or personal concerns under an overturned saucer and put the candle on top of the saucer.

Burn a portion of the candle every day for seven days, pinching it out between burnings. As you light it each day, say this

[Name], May you be blessed
May all good things come to you
May nothing whatsoever harm you
May your heart be light
May your travels be safe
May your health be good
May your mind be sound
May your friendships sustain you
May you be blessed in every way

* If you have a special request for this person (such as that they find a lover, get a good job, come home safely from a war, or whatever), just add it to the list.

Some people use a large pillar-type candle and keep it going for longer than seven days. They may make a habit of burning such a candle every day — or once a week, on Sundays — for as long as their friend or relative needs help, even doing so for months at a time. If the candle is large and it is to be burned in this way, it should be re-dressed with Blessing Oil or Holy Oil once a week: after the initial dressing, you can drop a tiny bit of oil into the “well” or hole in such a large candle just before lighting it each time.

Let’s Talk Witch – Candle Spells

Let’s Talk Witch – Candle Spells

Candle spells are probably one of the most commonly used spells for many witches. They are simple to perform and often used in a ‘set and forget’ manner.

A candle spell involves taking a candle of the appropriate colour, inscribing your wish upon it, anointing the candle with an oil blend in the direction most suited to your purpose and burning the candle. If you can’t find or can’t afford the right colour, a plain white or beeswax candle with ribbon or something else in the right colours around it will work just as well. Use what you have or can find. Colour choices can be based on what that colour means regarding the purpose or what day of the week and planetary influence you are wanting to draw help from.

Inscribing the candle can be done with an athame, although I always think you’d need to have a pretty big candle or this would be somewhat unwieldy. My favourite tool for inscribing candles is a pearl headed florists pin that came from my wedding bouquet. It’s big enough to hold comfortably, but small enough to write tiny letters if that’s what I need.

An alternative to inscribing candles is to write your wish on a small piece of paper— something shaped like a ribbon— or draw a sigil and wrap it around your candle. It can be held in place with melted candle wax. Make sure that your candle is on or in a heatproof dish as this will catch fire.

I’ve seen plenty of discussion about the directions used when inscribing and anointing candles. I learned it as finding the candle’s middle point and for a drawing to you or building spell, working from both ends toward that point. For destructive, removing or banishing then you’d work away from the middle toward each end.

A friend always holds the candle with the base toward her and for a drawing spell, will work from wick to base (always careful to hold the candle so that it’s working toward her). For a banishing, she’ll work from base to wick.

The thing is, you are the magic. Whatever you believe or feels right to you will work for you. As long as you’re clear about the intent behind your spell. You can rub the oil or inscribe your words around and around if that’s what you feel you need to do. (Although in some traditions twisting the candle when anointing is the practice for manipulative spells).

As you are anointing your candle, you need to be completely focused on your purpose. See it working, see (like a movie in your head) the results you want and see how they come about. I did a money spell and saw my partner reading the winning numbers online and calling out to me that we’d won $ 10,000. I could hear the excitement in his voice and see our numbers on the computer screen. We didn’t win that one, but a month later he won the same amount in a radio competition. As stated earlier, be specific, be clear about the way your results will occur. When you feel you’ve poured as much of this into your candle as it will take, light it.

Some books will tell you that you must never use matches because of their sulphur and brimstone content and that this will bring unwanted energies to your candle. Other books say that you should only use matches as they’re made from natural products not plastic and gases raped from the earth. Again— use what comes to hand and feels right to you. If it bothers you and you don’t have the right ones available, light another candle separately (birthday cake candles work well) and use that candle to light your spell candle.

Stay focused on your candle as it’s burning. Keep that movie running in your head. Raise some energy and direct it into the candle. How long you leave your candle burning is up to you.

• Do you want to repeat this process every night for a week? This can make for a heavy duty spell. If this is what you want to do, mark the candle into 7 equal sections before beginning, or there are Seven Day Candles available— they have seven ‘knobs’ up their length, but simple marks are fine.
• Do you want to repeat it once a month on the full moon and spend a long time reinforcing the energies of this spell?
• Do you want to make it all happen right now?
• Do you want to use part of the candle in another form of the spell?

For example tying it in a bundle with herbs and burying it or melting it down and making a talisman from it.
One of the other points of discussion around candles is whether they should be blown out, snuffed, pinched or left to burn out completely. I’ve read that blowing it out is Air overpowering Fire and is offensive to Fire elementals. Similarly, that snuffing or pinching is snuffing or pinching out your desire. Burning a spell candle out completely is often unsafe (especially if you have a candle that will burn for 6 or more hours) and is of no use if you are doing a seven day candle spell. I can give you reasons why each one is right and wrong. Don’t fool yourself that any form is more or less disrespectful than others. Either way, by putting out the flame, the Fire element is being overpowered. You need to follow what works for you.

Personally, I blow mine out and picture my wish being blown toward what is needed for it to get results. For some spells, I let it burn out completely (safely of course). Some of the smaller votives can be good for this, or if it’s a little wish, birthday cake candles can work too.

Disposing of the candle remnants is also a choice you will have to make. I used to bury candle ends to complete the spell, but was told that depending on the composition of the candle, this could be poisoning the earth it was buried in. One friend flung her ends into the fire, another saved them, then cleansed them and melted them down to make new candles from the ends. Yet another friend saves his partial spell candles and uses them again for a similar spell. The build-up of energy from repeated spells makes them more powerful.

There is plenty of folklore about paying attention to the way a candle burns. If the flame is abnormally high, if it dances, leans toward a specific direction or the ways the melted wax drips. Sometimes there may be a message in this, but first, please check that it’s not simply in a draft. Additionally a cheap candle may drip more than an expensive one. Too many people on this path see something spooky where there really isn’t. Be wary of seeing messages in everything you do. Sometimes a candle drip is just a candle drip.

An important note about candle safety— many house fires are caused by candles. It’s hard to imagine that the tiny flame on a candle can turn into something so destructive but it is still a fire regardless of size. Always make sure that nothing can blow or drape over your candle flame. Things like curtains, sleeves and long hair can easily blow onto a candle especially in a draft and lead to disaster. Another safety tip is that a metal candle holder will heat up and can cause whatever it is sitting on to smoulder. I’ve also lost a few glass candle holders when the candle burned down low. Some just crack but others explode into a shower of fine flying glass splinters. Never assume that a candle holder is heat-proof. Always check.

Lady A’s Spell of the Day for June 27th – Candle Flame Scrying

dark witch Candle Flame Scrying

On a Full Moon, prepare your altar with black cloth. Set upon it a purple, blue, or white candle. It is best to use either a votive or a pillar. Around this, lay oak leaves in a circle and place clusters of quartz and/or amethyst around or on top of the oak leaves. Ground and Center and Cast your Circle.
Light the candle and say:
Candle of Power
Vision and light
Open my eyes
to the future this night.
Gaze into the flame and empty your mind of extraneous thought. Be patient and the future shall be seen. Don’t stare into the flame, for this causes the eyes to become strained and may give you a headache…just gaze and they shall appear. Good Luck!

CANDLE BINDING

CANDLE BINDING

Get a large white candle, the kind that drips wax, and set it up on a tray. Affix it to a photograph or other image of the person you wish to bind. Make a ring of sea salt around it. Make a second ring with protective herbs. Fill the rest of the tray with images that represent what you are binding the person from: pictures of your family, keys to your house, legal documents, whatever. If the problem is too complex for images, write what the person is bound from on slips of paper and place them around the candle. Papyrus, or paper made from cotton or linen work best for this. Use red ink if you are angry, purple ink if you are sad.

Wrap the candle and the image with black thread. Invoke Isis and Linda, the Binder with Linen Thread. Say out loud what you are binding the person from. Light the candle and leave it to burn until the wax begins to drip over the thread and image. Burn it every day for a week, until the image is thick with wax. Use this as a meditation device to direct your will to binding the person.

Ritual for Beltane Coven Gathering on 4/30/2015

04-la-wicca

Picture from: http://www.venusvoyance.com/wicca-vieille-religion-devenue-religion-nouvelle/ .If you go to the siteit is all in French.

I thought would share how I will be doing the sacred circle April 30th at 6:15 PM CT in the Chat Room. For more information click on Coven Life banner on right side of this page. This will take you to Coven Life Home page scroll down just a little and you will see the post for this gathering. I will be typing the ritual into the chat room as I do each part, so everyone can follow where we are. I ask that no one else post in the chat room during the ritual please. Thank you. Hope to see you tomorrow.

If you want to empower candles during the ritual as I will be doing, you will need to have a 1 yellow taper candle and 1 green taper candle. Length is your choice depending on how many gardens you will be taking them to, to use the power from. To give power from the candles to your garden:

To give power from the candles to your garden: Light candles hold them sideways so some wax can drip from them onto the ground. You will want to hold the candle over each corner of each garden. As you do light the candle, hold both in your power hand (the hand you write with) if possible, say: Candle burning bright. Release your power with all its might.

BELTANE COVEN GATHERING RITUAL

I am in my backyard for this ritual. I am lucky my neighbors have grown use to me doing them and do not talk to me now when they see my altar set up.

I will be closing the circle around us:

With Sword pointed at the ground: I call upon Fire to guard this circle from all things negative outside of it.

With Sword pointed at shoulder level: I call upon Water to keep this circle safe from all things negative.

With Sword above head: I call upon Air to keep this circle safe from all things negative.

Lay sword on altar.

Facing East: Power of ancient dreams, ancestors of the mighty east

Come forth, O guardians of Air.

Let your wings of intelligence my protection be

Hear this call, let my words draw you near.

Lock the gate that none may pass unless

They come in love and trust. Blessed Be!

Facing South: Power of ancient dreams, ancestors of the mighty south

Come forth, O guardians of Fire.

May your firey breath cleanse my work.

Hear this call, let my words draw you near.

Lock the gate that none may pass unless

They come in love and trust. Blessed Be!

Facing West: Power of ancient dreams, ancestors of the mighty west

Come forth, O guardians of Water.

May your sweeping waters bring protection all around.

Hear this call, let my words draw you near.

Lock the gate that none may pass unless

They come in love and trust. Blessed Be!

Facing North: Power of ancient dreams, ancestors of the mighty north

Come forth, O guardians of Earth.

Let the North Star crown your brow.

Hear this call, let my words draw you near.

Lock the gate that none may pass unless

They come in love and trust. Blessed Be!

This circle is now closed around us and I say: We stand in a place that is not a place, in a time that is outside of time. I welcome you in perfect love and perfect trust. Merry Meet and Merry greet.

I invoke Morrigan to come into our circle. I invoke the Green Man to come into our circle.

Waiting for the power to rise and the deities to enter.

Sitting before me is a green candle on my right and a yellow candle in my right.

With my pointer finger on each candle I say,

“I empower these candles with love and light,

to keep my plants healthy from blight.

They will bless my gardens from sunrise to sunrise,

My harvest from ,my plants will be my prize.

With my finger on the green candle I say, “Morrigan I ask you to infuse this candle with your power and energy to help my plants be bountiful and prosper.”

With my finger on the yellow candle I say, “Green Man I ask you to infuse this candle with your power and energy to help my plants be bountiful and prosper.”

These are my words, This is my will, so mote it be.

I pick up the chalice from the altar which has sparkling grape juice in it: Morrigan and Green Man I offer you libations in thanks for your power and energy to enhance my spell. I thank you Mother Earth, Ra, Rain and wind for helping my gardens to grow and be bountiful. I offer these libation to you. I then pour a bit of juice on to the ground.

I pick up the plate from my altar (which has some crackers on it): Morrigan and Green Man I offer this substance to you in thanks for your power and energy to enhance my spell. I thank you Mother Earth, Ra, rain and wind for helping my gardens to grow and be bountiful. I offer this substance to you. I than crumble a couple on to the ground.

I ring the bell on my altar: I ask the Fea folk to watch over my gardens and to help them grow. In thanks I offer you this ginger, butter and cake.

Before dismissing the Watchtowers and opening the circle I say: May no harm come to those within or without as my spell takes hold

I dismiss the Watchtowers starting in the North and walking counter clockwise/witthershins.

Earth I now send you back for where you came with thanks for your protection and power you have given this circle.

Water I now send you back for where you came with thanks for your protection and power you have given this circle.

Fire I now send you back for where you came with thanks for your protection and power you have given this circle.

Air I now send you back for where you came with thanks for your protection and power you have given this circle.

Walking counter clockwise/witthershins

Holding my sword above my head Air I send you back from where you came with heartfelt thanks for your protection.

Holding my sword at should height Water I send you back from where you came with heartfelt thanks for your protection

Holding my sword towards the ground Fire I send you back from where you came with heartfelt thanks for your protection

The circle is now closed. May you go from it with peace and love. Merry part  until we merry meet again.

A Candle Spell for Passionate Love

A Candle Spell for Passionate Love

To draw a passionate love your way, during a waxing Moon gather two taper candles, one pink and one red, and some red thread and jasmine oil.

Anoint the candles with jasmine oil using your fingertips, then light them while visualizing the flames of passion growing between yourself and new, but yet unknown, love.

Link the candles together by making a figure eight between them with the thread while repeating:

“Flames of passion and seeds of romance grow;
I open my heart to love. Now the one who seeks me shall
come.”

For best results, enact the spell on three consecutive nights.

A Candle Spell for Justice or Help in Legal Matters

CANDLE SPELL FOR JUSTICE OR HELP IN LEGAL MATTERS

It does not require a sword only Tarot and candles. You might want to burn some herbs or incense associated with justice while doing this spell. Also a simple yet incredibly powerful protection spell is done with a small or medium sized mirror you can hold in your hands.

While holding the mirror facing outwards in other words not showing your reflection but turned to reflect out, turn in a counter clockwise circle to banish while saying:

Circle of reflection, Circle of protection,
May the sender of all harm, Feel the power of this charm.

This does not send any negative energy at the sender hence eliminating the cause and effect portion of negativity adding to negativity but it reflects back anything being directed at you. So it bounces off you instead of affecting you.

Circle three times full round chanting this or until you feel it is complete, then make a closing statement such as:

“So Mote Be It.”

ALL PURPOSE CANDLE ANOINTING OIL

ALL PURPOSE CANDLE ANOINTING OIL

Items You Will Need:

1 cup rose petals
1 cup violets
1 cup water
1 cup olive oil
1 tbsp clove oil
2 teaspoons powdered cinnamon
1 tablespoon powdered myrrh
1/4 cup wild fennel seeds

Gather rose petals and violets at sunrise. Place them in a clean ceramic crock. Cover with water (fresh rain water, preferably) and let crock sit in a sunny location for three days until an oily film (the essential oil of the flowers) is seen floating on top of the water.

Remove oil from water by carefully absorbing it into a small cotton ball. Squeeze out oil into a clean, long-necked glass bottle. Add olive and clove oils, and swirl gently in a clockwise direction to slowly agitate oils.

Next, add cinnamon, myrrh, and fennel seeds. Seal bottle tightly and store it in a dark, cool place. After four weeks, strain through cheesecloth and use to anoint candles.

New Job Candle Burning Magick

NEW JOB CANDLE BURNING MAGICK

Items You Will Need:

Goddess Candle
God Candle
Incense
Green Candle
Good Luck Oil
Black Candle
Banishing Oil
Petitioner Candle

The Spell:

Build your altar. Place the Petitioner candle beneath the Goddess candle and place the green and black candles beneath the God candle.

Light the incense. Anoint the black candle with banishing oil and say,

“Empower this candle to absorb all negative forces acting upon me.
As this candle burns, let it’s powers engulf all obstacles in my way,
leaving my path clear for success.”

Light the black candle. Anoint green candle with good luck oil and say,

“I empower this candle to bring me good luck, prosperity and success
in acquiring a new and better job. As this candle burns, so might it
be a beacon for good fortune and prosperity.”

Light the green candle. You need not anoint the petitioner candle, but focus strongly on this person (if it is yourself, see yourself in your new job) as you light it, saying,

“As this candle represents {name}, let it be a beacon for positive forces and energies.
As this candle burns bright, so does the light of {names}’s heart burn bright with ambition
and desire for a new, better job.”

Concentrate firmly, directing your power to the petitioner candle, which is receiving the energy from the green candle that is burning. After ten minutes or so of concentration, extinguish the candles in the reverse order in which you lit them. Each day, repeat the spell, moving the green candle two inches closer to the petitioner.

Your spell is complete when the two candles touch.

Seven brightest stars in the sky, light the flame I hold high.”

With this light your matches/lighter, light the wishing candle, and light the little candles in it’s flame. Now go about business as usual.

Something physical is manifesting. You will have to work for what you wish to achieve.

Something mental is manifesting. Think things through and have patience in situations.

How To Charge The Oils (and their magickal properties) Used In Candle Charging

How To Charge The Oils (and their magickal properties) Used In Candle Charging

In a candle spell, we first charge the candle (or empower it), directing our own energy into the candle. This, like raising our energy before the spell, This, like raising our energy before the spell, is very necessary. Without charging, the candle basically has no power to bring you what you need. This energy we direct into the candle is then released when the candle burns, going into the world to create the change we desire. While charging a candle for a spell, anoint the candle at the same time. Anointing is simply rubbing oil, on the candle, intending to help direct energy into the candle. When performing a spell to attract something, or performing a positive spell of any kind, the candle is held between the index finger and thumb of your receptive hand (the hand you DON’T write with), and oil is rubbed on the candle from the tip to the center- and then from the bottom to the center with the finger and thumb of your projective hand (the hand you DO write with). The candle is never rubbed back and forth. By rubbing inward from the tip and inward from the bottom, we are “drawing” our intended goal to us.

To charge a candle for a spell to banish or dispel negativity of any kind, anoint the candle from the center outward. Hold the candle with the index finger and thumb of your receptive hand and rub the oil on with your projective hand- from the center to the tip, and from the center to the bottom. Again, never rub back and forth. Make sure to check the MOON phase before working any spell.

When using oils, make sure they are not synthetic but pure in form. I am listing a few of my favorite oils and there uses in magick:

While anointing the candle, focus on the goal of your spell. Then imagine sending the energy you raised into the candle, flowing from your body and out your finger tips. Focusing completely upon what you are doing is necessary in any spell. Don’t allow your mind to wander. Focus on the outcome of the spell, and directing your energy. The list above will help you match the oil and candle needed for your “charging” and then the spell.

This is just a small list, there are hundreds of oils available at different stores throughout the world. I recommend studying the different oils and create your own.

A new candle must be used for each new spell. The candle must not be cracked, broken or damaged in any way. Make sure you have time when you plan to do your candle magick, because the candle must be allowed to burn out on it’s own and you should never leave a candle burning unattended!
