Illinois’ Wasps Are Everywhere-Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Kill Them

(SIDE NOTE: This is for anywhere on Mother Earth/Gaia where Wasps can be found.)

I have very little trouble admitting that I’ve killed more than a few wasps in my time. I’ve always had a live and let live relationship with bees, but wasps have always been on my kill-on-sight list.

I even went so far as to order the most souped-up electric bug-zapping racket I could find on Amazon. This thing is a one touch-one corpse gadget, and it has left a pile of wasp bodies in its wake, let me tell you. I also added the salt shooting “Bug-A-Salt” gun to my backyard arsenal. Think of it as a shotgun that fires table salt that obliterates insect pests.

It Turns Out That Wasps Do A Lot Of Good. Really.

So what good are these things that offer up painful stings, build nests under our eaves and decks, and seemingly do little else besides buzz around you and your family while you’re trying to enjoy a night on the patio?

A piece up at ThoughtCo.com says that wasps of all sorts offer some great ecological benefits like “pollination, predation, and parasitism.” I know what the first two are, but the last one sounds like a word that describes many politicians.

Wasps are apparently interested in more things than just stinging us:

“For instance, paper wasps carry caterpillars and leaf beetle larvae back to their nests to feed their growing young. Hornets provision their nests with all manner of live insects to sate the appetites of their developing larvae. It takes a lot of bugs to feed a hungry brood, and it’s through these needs that both hornets and paper wasps provide vital pest control services.”

So, wasps handle some of the much-needed pollination jobs, and they kill and eat all sorts of pests like caterpillars, spiders, and aphids. However, they are temperamental and territorial, and will happily sting you.

I’m not going to apologize for the ones I’ve “removed from the game,” but maybe I might not be so quick to grab my zapping racket and Bug-A-Salt gun in the future.

A Thought for Today

BUILDING A MYSTERY by thegypsy

It begins with the little things

Shadows in the corner

A quick glimpse and then nothing

Observed, perhaps

Too much uncertainty

And certainly not put to memory

Like a whisper in a crowd

There and then quickly dissipates

Maybe you question for a moment

Then rationalize and continue

And it continues

With objects slightly out of place

A crooked painting

Chairs that seem abandoned

Lights flash in a darkened room

Or a sudden chill in the air

Intuition is speaking

A feeling that keeps coming

Something is stirring

Something that isn’t right

Triggering defenses

Your mind now constantly moving

That newfound feeling

Gnawing ravenously

Building a mystery

No longer just on the inside

Visible now, like an open wound

Irritating confusion

The need is growing

And you begin to question

Your senses first, your sanity second

Tiny lapses in the time stream

What should have been,

Replicated with another version

Short on the how and why

But again, it’s been rationalized

Different thoughts for now

New explanations

But then you begin to realize

The other thoughts remain

One’s onerous and dark

It’s you they are coming for

Edges starting to fray

Pulling away

The hunger growing

Paranoia and accusatory

But of what accord is the wonder

Suspects in every direction

But no case in point to reference

Careful questioning

As the days continue

Evenings fading into night

More oddities in the shadows

Growth of unclaimed activities

Actionable encounters

Footfalls deep into the darkness

Too loud to pin to a dream

Scratching window on a cloudless day

The feeling of something stirring

But when and where and why

There’s a thinning happening

Blurring the distant vision

Double takes and reexamination

And the missing things

Now more important things

Searching becomes maddening

Suspicions manifesting

Eyes shifting and observing

Borderline panicking

Brow sweating, heart pounding

Vision darting, silence deafening

Madness overtaking

Ears ringing, haunted singing

Laughing becomes screaming

Fitful dreaming, broken thinking

Tearing, swearing, earth shearing

Ground shaking, everything breaking

Things corrupting, flames erupting

Evil rising, synchronizing

Head pounding, body shaking

Smoke coiling, blood boiling

Sharp stinging, barely clinging

Alarm clock ringing…

A Laugh for Today

And part of me is thinking “How can I get a fun day off?” 😂

Have wicked, wonderful Wednesday!

A Laugh for Today

The last two days in our home have been way of normal. Sunday, I didn’t get the Monday posts up because I was in too much pain after we drove 220 miles to serve paperwork. Yesterday we had to go bring a new battery to my youngest son, so he was able to start his car again to go to work. As we left to come home a major belt on the Jeep broke 4 blocks from my son’s home. We were able to get it to a great auto repair shop but that’s where the real fun came in. We were there 5 hours waiting for the part to come, the auto parts store lost power we had to wait for the part until power was restored and be put on. Oh, I forgot to mention it rained everywhere we were all day yesterday which isn’t fun with artists and a bad fibromyalgia flare. We left home about 10:00 AM and didn’t get back until around 8:00 PM instead of about 2 PM. Needless to say, our fur children were not happy with us and had very empty tummies their normal dinner time is between 1 and 2 PM. So, I had plan to do today’s posts when we got home but both of us could barely move due to sitting in chairs that were uncomfortable for hours and just being in the Jeep for so long. Anywho onto tomorrow posts that go live today.

A Laugh for Today

A short break than on to the tomorrow regular posts for Friday in the northern hemisphere.

A Laugh for Today – Contains a Swear Word

I am sorry I have run out of time today to finish the last 2 or 3 monthly posts. The September birthstone, flower, etc. and all the holidays will go up tomorrow when I finish Thursday’s and the tomorrow posts for Friday. I apologize for any inconvenience my not getting the Celtic Tree Month and September Monthly posts on time may have caused anyone. I thank you for your understanding and patience and support while I was recovering from COVID over the last couple of weeks!

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends

Merry meet, Hail, Good Whatever Time of Day you read this!

All the birthday horoscopes from September 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are posted on their respective dates. The weekly horoscopes are posted on September 3rd where they should have been already.

For today I am only doing daily and birthday horoscopes and the current Moon phase. I will be checking emails as we are in the car when we’re not in a no service area (we hit these quite often because of living surrounded by corn and soybean fields wherever we have to travel to) part of the fun living in farm country (which I love) instead of the hustle and bustle of city life. Why only these? Well, I was up until around 6 AM this morning and finally fell asleep and didn’t get up until about 30 minutes ago. Plus missing birthday horoscopes for most of the dates so far in September. Than having to leave with Big Dawg in an hour for him to serve paperwork with me his trusty side kick doesn’t give me much time for all the regular daily posts. So, I figure the ones pertain only to the 5th of September are more important to get than trying to do everything with not a enough time to do them. Hopefully I will sleep tonight and wake up bright eyed and bushy tail already to bring you all the regular daily posts and 1st of the months posts tomorrow morning. I will go back to doing the tomorrow posts for Friday, September 8th along with all of the regular posts for Thursday, September 7th.

I know I didn’t do good on my goal for this New Moon to New Moon phase but there is always the next lunar month to strive for. I am sorry if any one was inconvenienced by me not getting all the regular daily posts up last week through today. Thank you for your patience and support while I was sick again!

Sorry No Regular Posts Today

When I get sick I do it up well…lol. I wound up with a sinus infection thanks to my allergies mixed with COVID. I just started medication for it last night. This morning, I’d like 2 teeny, tiny pieces of dynamite to make my sinus clear and my head to quit pounding. I’m going back to bed probably for the rest of today.

See you tomorrow for Sunday and the rest of the monthly posts.

A Thought for Today

I am feeling a bit better this morning but due to it being September 1st I am doing limited daily posts so I can get through some of the monthly posts. This is my third bout with COVID and it is taking more out of me than the last two times. Supposedly the newest strain of COVID hits people who have had it before and/or had all the vaccinations offered, like me, harder and quicker than those who haven’t had it. My question is why have I gone through a miserable day or two after each shot only to get the possible new strain and feel worse than ever before? Any who I don’t want to waste energy on this posts when I have so many regular monthly posts to do so, I wish you all a blessed and happy September.

Be careful when driving as most children are back in school in the USA!

No Posts Today

I’m really sorry but I need to spend the day healing my body. I have zero energy and I’m so congested I had to get my nebulizer out to use last night. My fibromyalgia is in a full flare.

Not asking for sympathy or anything. I just wanted you to know why no posts were going live today.

Some Humor for Your Day

I’m going back to bed with my 101.8 F fever just didn’t want you to go without knowing your daily/birthday horoscopes and current moon phase. See you all tomorrow.

Wishing you a fantastic week!
