All Signs

Each Mercury retrograde is in a different sign, so it affects us differently. Some people glide through one, while others are white knuckling it all the way. (This is a vicious one for me.) Mercury will be retrograde until Sept. 15; so, if you’re buying cars, trucks, computers or cell phones, be smart and wait until the shadow is over on Oct. 1. (I’m waiting until then to buy a laptop.) Meanwhile, the Sun is now in Virgo, which means we all want to pull our act together, get organized, eat healthier, drink less booze and exercise. (At least, jog for 10 seconds in front of the fridge.) Ah yes, amateurs only gain weight in the holidays. Professionals gain weight the entire year.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

You have that back-to-school feeling that you have to buckle down, get to work and get organized. “I’m on it!” As I mentioned in All Signs above, you will also be eager to improve your health. When it comes to improving ourselves, it’s generally easier to stop a bad habit then to begin a new healthy one. But maybe you can do both? Venus promises social diversions and fun times, especially with romantic dates or playful activities with kids. However, while Mars is opposite your sign, it’s easy to get annoyed with others, which means patience will be your best friend. Continue to look for ways to boost your income because you can do this!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

The next several weeks will be easier for you because the Sun will be in your fellow Earth sign, which is a supporting energy. Whatever you do will flow nicely. You will also be more motivated to do something. Having said that, this same window of time is all about play, fun diversions, exploring the arts, the entertainment world and taking a vacation. In other words, work comes second. Keep an eye out for old flames who will be back in the picture. (Something to keep you on your toes?) Basically, your “work hard, party hard” theme continues for the next few weeks. You will also redecorate at home and enjoy entertaining so that you can show off your ingenious efforts.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

The next few weeks are about home, family and your private life. Many will be involved with a parent. You might have relatives you haven’t seen for a while camped on your doorstep. (Hand them a paintbrush or broom.) Your communication skills are excellent now and will continue for several weeks because fair Venus is in your House of Communications, which will sweeten and soften your words. You’ll be the epitome of tact and diplomacy! Actually, it will be easy because another influence of Venus will make you realize how much affection and beauty there is in your daily world. What a blessing! Meanwhile, competitive sports and fun outings still appeal.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

For the next few weeks, the pace of your days will accelerate because you suddenly have short trips to take, appointments, errands to run, plus, people to see as you spend more time with siblings, relatives and neighbours. Your dance card is full! Mercury retrograde will continue to stir up goofy mistakes, transportation delays and mixed-up communications and conversations with others. But you can handle this. Many of you will also encounter past acquaintances, which will be interesting because it’s fun to trade lies and talk about the good old days. Meanwhile, you continue to deal with some kind of chaos or increased activity at home. Cope as best you can.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Money, money, money is on your mind. (Many of you blew a wad during “Celebrate Leo!” season.) Plus, cheques were late in the mail, problems with credit cards, plus delayed business deals due to Mercury retrograde. Oy! Naturally, with Venus in your sign, you will handle all this with grace. In fact, Venus will make it easy to make peace with others and enjoy good times with friends. (Note this is also a great time for a vacation and to shop for wardrobe goodies.) Meanwhile, Mars is in your House of Communications boosting your mental energy, stimulating the tempo of your everyday life, and making you identify strongly with your ideas and opinions. Look out world!

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

The Sun is now in your sign until Sept. 23. This means it’s all about you, dear Virgo! Once a year, the Sun is in your sign for four weeks and when that happens, it’s your turn to recharge your batteries for the rest of year. You will be more concerned with personal matters. You’ll feel a strong need to express yourself. You will more easily attract people and favourable situations to you; and you will make a great impression on everyone! Secret love affairs might be happening, which is not surprising because this year is a stressful time for marriage and partnerships for your sign. Nevertheless, don’t risk a solid, long-term relationship for a mere bonbon. Think of your long-range goals.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

For the next few weeks, the Sun is hiding in your chart before it enters your sign on Sept. 23. This means that likewise, you will be happy to play things low-key and stay in the background. Nevertheless, with fiery Mars in your sign, by no means, will you be a wallflower! Oh no. Mars in your sign (something that happens only once every two years for six weeks) will make you work hard to further your own interests, and also to assert yourself among others! You’ll be much more of a fighter for your own rights than usual. Plus, your physical energy will be high. Meanwhile, old friends are back in your world, promising fun get-togethers.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

The next several weeks are popular for you! You’ll enjoy hanging out with friends, plus being involved more with groups and organizations. Many of you will also be in contact with friends from your past. This will also be a lovely time to think about your long-range goals. It so happens that you make an excellent impression on bosses, parents, teachers and the police right now. If you ask for advice or assistance, it will be forthcoming. Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Ta da! This is the only time all year when the Sun sits at the top of your chart for four weeks, casting you in a flattering spotlight. Garbo was right, “Good lighting is everything.” You look super competent to authority figures even if you don’t do anything special, which means this is the perfect opportunity for you to demand the advantage, ask for a raise, seek out a promotion – whatever. (It doesn’t hurt to ask.) Meanwhile, opportunities to travel for pleasure still exist – something dear to your heart. Plus, competitive sports and physical activities are also in the picture for most of you. Remember: This is the year for you to improve your job or get a better one.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Your desire to travel, read, study and learn more will be strong in the next four weeks because you feel the need to expand your horizons. Travel is the obvious choice; but if you can’t travel, then be a tourist in your own city! You can also put out energy to study and learn more because this will stimulate you. And that’s what you want. Stimulation and adventure! Once every two years, Mars is high in your chart, arousing your ambition, and that’s happening right now. Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

You have your eye on the resources and wealth of your partner, inheritances, the government, credit cards or an institution that holds your debt. Perfect! This is an excellent time to wrap up old business with these areas because of Mercury retrograde. On the other hand, initiating new business for example will drag slowly or be delayed because of Mercury retrograde. Meanwhile, the opportunity to travel totally appeals because your sense of adventure is strong now. You want to go places and have fun! With Venus opposite your sign, relations with partners and close friends are excellent. Perfect time to enjoy life with a travel buddy! Continue to look for ways to improve home and family.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

This is the only time all year when the Sun sits opposite your sign for four weeks. Because this means it is as far away from you as it can get all year (in your chart), and the Sun is your source of energy, your energy will be flagging somewhat and you will need more sleep. Go to bed. Aside from that, relations with coworkers couldn’t be better! People will be supportive and helpful to you. Admittedly, disputes about shared property or debt might occur now. Everything has a chart — not just people — because a chart is based on date, time of day and longitude and latitude. (Hold that thought.) This week Mercury retrograde begins! Mercury has domain over everything that MOVES FORWARD like ground transportation, words and ideas. So, if you buy a car, computer or phone during Mercury retrograde, it will have Mercury retrograde in its chart, which means it might have glitches or delays. (It’s okay to buy most things if you watch out for errors in paperwork and communications.) Mercury is retrograde from Aug.23 – Sept. 15; but if buying expensive items, avoid doing so from Aug. 10 – Sept.30. Fortunately, Mercury retrograde helps us to finish old business, research history and be introspective. (Of course, a brain is only as strong as its weakest think.)

Aries (March 21-April 19)

You’re busting your buns to work hard; however, Mercury retrograde might interfere. It could create delays, late deliveries, confused communications with coworkers, lost paperwork and silly errors. On the upside, this is an excellent time to finish old work connected with your job. It’s also an excellent time to finish medical procedures. Nevertheless, your primary focus this week is to enjoy vacations, fun outings, romantic dates, playful activities with kids and sports events. It’s a wonderful time to express your creative talents through art, handicrafts and whatever you like to create with your hands. Stay chill at the beginning of the week because this week gets better and better.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Many of you are encountering or hearing about old flames from your past, which is sometimes exciting and thrilling, but sometimes not so much. Nevertheless, you’re in a playful mood! In fact, you have lots of energy for competitive sports and physical activities. However, everything to do with sports, the entertainment world, the hospitality industry, fun socializing and dealing with kids is also where you might experience delays and confused communications. Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Very likely, you have family members camped out on your doorstep, eating out of your fridge. Hopefully they will cook and clean. This is also an excellent time to tackle home repairs that you might have been avoiding. Under the influence of Mercury retrograde, these repairs will flow smoothly and quickly. Meanwhile, you are basically upbeat! In fact, your communications with others are warm, friendly, diplomatic and charming. Everyone loves you! In turn, this makes you feel so good that your appreciation of life is heightened, including your appreciation of the beauty of your daily surroundings. (Go figure.) Be patient with the chaos at home. Everything in life is temporary.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

More than most, you will feel this Mercury retrograde because it’s taking place in your chart where Mercury “lives” (for want of a better word). That’s why this is the classic time for you to face transportation delays and breakdowns of cars and trucks or bikes. You will very likely encounter people from your past that you haven’t seen for a while – siblings, relatives and neighbours. Almost certainly, you will run late or miss appointments and suffer from delays in the mail. Cheques will be late. But on the upside, it can be fun running into people you have history with. And this is an excellent time to finish studies, finish writing projects or finish that book – or thesis. (Major groan.)

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Leos will experience delays to their financial scene, which includes salary payments, cheques in the mail being late and that sort of thing. Grrr. Naturally, this is a drag. (Money is so handy when you want to buy frills like food.) On the upside, many of you will wrap up financial matters or seal the deal, especially to do with your income. You’re working hard now to earn money, and many of you are spending it freely as well. This is a great time to buy wardrobe items, especially vintage clothing. Things tend to go your way now because the Sun is still in your sign along with fair Venus, which makes everyone want to be in your company. (Your bathroom mirror is covered in kisses.)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

You will feel this Mercury retrograde for two reasons: Mercury is your ruler; and this particular Mercury retrograde is in Virgo. (Yikes!) This is why you’re running into old friends, partners and ex-spouses. Mars in your sign right now makes you proactive, direct and ready to make a first move. This might surprise some of your old acquaintances. Furthermore, because Mercury is retrograde in your sign, this will make you less inclined to “overthink” things. Ironically, you might act more decisively. (Who knew?) Your desire to travel and expand your world continues to be strong. Expect opportunities to do so. Likewise, opportunities in publishing, the media, medicine and the law also exist. Stay tuned!

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This is an intriguing time because behind-the-scenes stuff is going on. Secrets are being revealed. You might feel betrayed or marginalized. These could be minor occurrences or it could be something that hits you in the gut. Basically, it’s stuff from the past that is surfacing and now you see it clearly. At least, if not clearly, you have a rough outline. (Is that a paisley shirt?) Fortunately, friends are supportive, which is reassuring. In fact, you’re enjoying a lovely popularity with others. It’s also a fortunate time for you because the help and resources that you need from others will be forthcoming. “Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!” (Perfect timing.)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

This is the last week when you have this wonderful advantage of having the Sun at high noon in your chart, thrusting you into a limelight that is flattering! Oh yes. People admire you! Especially bosses and people in authority who now see you as competent and capable – even if you don’t do anything special. (Garbo was right. Good lighting is everything.) Meanwhile, Mercury retrograde will continue to attract friends from your past back into your world. These people might not only be old friends, but they could be casual contacts that you made previously when you were in a club or organization. You might be able to use this time for closure or wrapping up things with someone. Put it to good use.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

As the traveller of the zodiac, you have recently enjoyed wonderful opportunities to travel and expand your experience of the world. This is the last week that you have this strong influence at play, so make the most of it! For those of you who can’t travel, you can still satisfy your urge to expand your horizons by exploring your own neighbourhood or city and learning new things. Meanwhile, this week Mercury retrograde officially begins and this particular Mercury retrograde takes place at the top of your chart, which means you are bound to encounter parents, bosses and authority figures whom you have not seen for a while. Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Your life has been unusually intense (for many of you) in the past few weeks. This is the last week that this intensity will pulsate. (It’s been a ride.) For some of you, this manifested as a passionate romance. Intimate relations have been affectionate and certainly memorable. Some of you have been in touch with old flames and people from your past. In fact, people from distant lands, other countries or those who are “different” from your own circle have also resurfaced in your life. This is an exciting week! It’s time to indulge our love of fashion, art and beautiful things. Although we’re all prepared to work, what we really want to do is have fun! (Yes – that “work hard/party hard” motto is alive and well.) On Wednesday, the New Moon takes place in glamorous, dramatic Leo. However, it is surrounded by disruption and exciting, new directions because on Tuesday, the Sun is at odds with unpredictable Uranus, and again on Wednesday, Mars is also dancing with Uranus. This means people are working, people are playing and people are eager for new ways of doing things. Life is full of exciting possibilities. “It’s all I ever wanted since I heard about it a minute ago!” (This column may be monitored for quality assurance.)

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Of course, this will be a playful, fun-loving and romantic week for you. No question. Nevertheless, do be aware that sudden changes might take place that affect your job, your work and even your health. You might explore a new job. You might see a new way to earn money. Actually, your associates are important because they affect your thinking, which in turn, affects your choices, which in turn, will affect your future. Your friends and associates are a very big deal. You might also feel restless with changes happening behind the scenes.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Others might surprise you this week. It might be a friend, especially someone younger? Or you might be surprised by someone who is competitive and a bit aggressive? Or someone in a group or an organization? Another aspect of this “fast surprise” could be that you decide to change your future goals? Someone might influence you or impress you, which in turn, makes you decide to change your goals? Meanwhile, the only New Moon all year that takes place at the top of your chart is happening this week. This dovetails with the possibility of you changing future goals because the New Moon will make you reassess your life direction. (Very interesting.)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Your interactions with bosses, parents, teachers and authority figures, including the police, will yield a few surprises this week. The painful one is – don’t get busted. The best one is – a surprise promotion or good news! Something might happen that gives you great press, which makes everyone admire you. “I win!” One thing is certain, whatever occurs out of the blue, will be public. Others will notice whatever happens. Meanwhile, this week’s New Moon is the best opportunity all year for you to make future travel plans. Where do you want to go? What can you do to expand your world with rich, exciting rewards? Think about this.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Travel plans are tenuous this week. Specific plans might be cancelled or delayed. Conversely, some of you will have to suddenly travel when you did not expect to do so. In other words, it’s a crapshoot. This same unexpected and surprising quality might impact a medical situation or a legal matter. It might also affect your educational plans or something to do with writing a paper or a manuscript or taking a course. “And then, just like that – it was over.” Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, this week’s New Moon urges you to take a fresh look at how you handle debt, shared property, and anything that you own jointly with others. It’s time to reassess inheritances and estates. Heady stuff.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Please know that this is the best week of the entire year for you to give serious thought to how to improve your closest relationships. That’s because the New Moon this week (Wednesday) takes place opposite your sign (the only time all year) giving you a wonderful chance to set new goals, intentions and resolutions about how you relate to partners, close friends and spouses. (There’s always room for improvement – this we know.) Meanwhile, keep an eye on banking situations and anything to do with shared property, debt and inheritances because there will be some surprises and unexpected events impacting these areas. Don’t be caught asleep at the switch.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

A close friend, spouse or partner (professional or personal) will surprise you this week. They might have an unexpected suggestion? They might want to redefine the relationship? They might want more freedom in the relationship? Alternatively, you might meet someone new who is a real character. They’re unusual and exciting. Quite possibly, they will make you feel younger and more cutting-edge. Meanwhile, the only New Moon that happens all year in your House of Employment is taking place. Each New Moon is the perfect time to new resolutions, which is why now is the time to initiate ideas about how to improve your job. You can also make goals about how to improve your health. Ideas?

The effects of Mercury retrograde are beginning, which is why I sit here with my phone to my ear, listening to Muzak, waiting to talk to someone in another country about online banking problems. (Mercury is retrograde from Aug. 23 to Sept. 15. But it slows down before and after, hence my recommended “buffer dates”: Aug. 10 to Sept. 30.) Meanwhile, I’m often asked, “Can I buy an appliance in Mercury retrograde?” The answer is YES. The items to avoid buying are “Mercury related things” i.e. anything that moves forward or promotes communication. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, bikes, printers, cell phones, computers. Mercury retrograde also invariably reminds us of the past — embarrassing moments and those awkward dates. You might even hear a distant voice: “In the vessel with the pestle is the brew that is true.”

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Life continues to offer you opportunities to socialize, enjoy playful activities with kids, sports events, the arts, musical performances and movies. Love at first sight will occur for some of you, especially midweek. However, please note that parents should be extra vigilant because this is an accident-prone time for your kids. Be aware of where they are what they’re doing at all times. Mercury retrograde will create delays and goofy mistakes to your work. Fortunately, it’s small stuff. Note: these little errors might also impact a medical situation; or even something to do with your pet. Fortunately, you have the perseverance and willpower to keep working – and work hard!

Stock the fridge because relatives and people you haven’t heard from for a while might appear on your doorstep. Cars, trucks, ideas and words. When Mercury is retrograde, these are the things that tend to stall or glitch. Car problems. Buses are late. Traffic jams. Communications are confused.
