Your Daily Love Horoscopes for Tuesday, February 20th

General

General Horoscope

A series of complicated aspects creates confusion as we try to sort through the facts. But the truth is hard to find amidst the piles of conflicting information until the Moon plods into stabilizing Taurus at 2:11 pm EST, adding a healthy dose of common sense to our analysis. But reality may be difficult to swallow when our perspectives differ with someone else’s. Power struggles are likely as we negotiate over which point of view will prevail.

Aries Horoscope MAR 21 – APR 19

You could miss several subtle cues today, which can create a few awkward situations. You are given a chance to share your feelings with someone, but might not say a word for fear of saying too much. Although you are known to speak your mind without holding back, you realize how precarious the emotional balance is now and will do nearly anything to prevent this house of cards from tumbling down. Your decision to remain silent may not keep you out of trouble, requiring you to clean up a mess after an argument, anyway. Luckily, others will appreciate your truth more than your diplomacy.

Taurus Horoscope APR 20 – MAY 20

You can sense a rather strange vibe that is running through your network of coworkers today and you’re not certain what it means. Although you’re confident that your perceptions are accurate at first, you may begin to doubt yourself as the day progresses. The Moon’s shift into earthy Taurus typically helps to stabilize your emotions, but only heightens your sensitivity to the unknown now, instead. Thankfully, there’s no reason to act on your odd feelings; you only need to pay attention to them as they change throughout the day. Winston Churchill said, “Fear is a reaction; courage is discovery.”

Gemini Horoscope MAY 21 – JUN 20

You are easily drawn out from behind your mask today. You’re eager to make people feel as comfortable as you, but it turns out to be a complex task. It seems as if everyone but you is stuck on his or her position and not interested in change — even if a change would serve them well. A touch of discretion on your part can make all the difference in the world. If you inspire others to feel emotionally safe, they are more likely to shift gears and end up in a better place.

Cancer Horoscope JUN 21 – JUL 22

Separating your unconscious fantasies from patterns in the real world can be tricky business today. However, your unexpressed hopes and dreams leak into nearly every interaction now, infusing even the simplest discussion with mixed signals. Thankfully, the simplistic Taurus Moon encourages you to limit your communication to the most practical issues, so you can get your message across without upsetting anyone else. Psychologist Hans Selye wrote, “Adopting the right attitude can convert a negative stress into a positive one.”

Leo Horoscope JUL 23 – AUG 22

Emotional or financial entanglements make even the simplest activities more complicated. Your life is intertwined with those closest to you, but you might try to act on your own now, anyhow. Exercise caution when making plans to do something alone because it’s unlikely you can cut the ties effectively. Instead of resisting the natural flow today, choose partnership over a solo venture. It’s a mutual blessing when you directly utilize what someone else brings to the party. Ken Blanchard wrote, “None of us is as smart as all of us.”

Virgo Horoscope AUG 23 – SEP 22

You might feel as if the scriptwriter for today’s drama has cast you in a supporting role. Furthermore, you’re not happy with the sarcastic humor because it feels as if the joke is on you. You don’t like it when a conversation is thrown off track by information suddenly crashing in like unexpected thunder. Nevertheless, you still must react to integrate the new data or you won’t be able to keep up with the changes. Author Deborah Day wrote, “Flexibility requires an open mind and a welcoming of new alternatives.”

Libra Horoscope SEP 23 – OCT 22

You prefer to keep your interpersonal interactions lighthearted today, but every conversation has the potential to slip into an inescapable black hole. Ironically, it feels like metaphysical quicksand, the more you struggle to get out, the faster you sink. But relaxing while in an adrenaline-producing situation isn’t easy because your brain is telling you to fight to be free. Nevertheless, acknowledging the paradox shifts your reality as fast as it was created. Increasing your self-awareness empowers you to change your world.

Scorpio Horoscope OCT 23 – NOV 21

Your intuition has shifted into overdrive, filling your mind with more answers than you have questions. However, it’s not easy to just accept the symbols and thoughts that pop into your head when there’s no simple way to check out their validity. Ironically, the pipeline to other dimensions shrinks when you begin to doubt your psychic connection, cutting you off from the information you need. Remember, every moment is an opportunity to let go and practice trust.

Sagittarius Horoscope NOV 22 – DEC 21

Unexpected events on the home front pull your attention from worldly affairs today. Or, you might be distracted by a flood of childhood memories. Either way, there are personal issues that can prevent you from being fully present in your daily routine. Unfortunately, there’s no off switch that controls your inner awareness and if you try to suppress your thoughts now, they will only grow louder. Instead, don’t be afraid to bring your past back into sharp focus. Only when you embrace the intensity of your family history will it release its grip on you and allow you to move on.

Capricorn Horoscope DEC 22 – JAN 19

Your basic needs include creating an ambitious schedule that enables you to engage in the world with confidence. But specificity is an elusive concept today and you might have to give up your desire for the stability a detailed agenda affords. Nevertheless, there are some big pieces of your plans that could start to fall in place by the afternoon. Unfortunately, if you try to rush the process, you’ll end up stressed out and frustrated. Focus on what you can fix and forget about what you can’t.

Aquarius Horoscope JAN 20 – FEB 18

Your uncertainty about a major purchase can eat up a lot of your time today, negatively impacting your productivity in other areas of your life. It’s one thing to know the state of your finances; it’s entirely different to know if it is wise to charge a substantial amount of money onto your credit card in order to make an acquisition. Although it’s easier to justify buying a utilitarian item than an artful object of beauty, they both impinge upon your cash flow. Take your time as you analyze the pros and cons of spending money now, so you don’t regret your lack of resources down the road.

Pisces Horoscope FEB 19 – MAR 20

You might wonder if your conscious decisions really have any influence on the overall trajectory of your life. Days like today demonstrate the importance of unplanned synchronicities as the finger of fate points at you. An event that changes everything in an instant could occur out of the blue. There are no easy answers to the apparently mysterious ways of the universe. But don’t let your temporary powerlessness take over your life. Make decisions as if you were exerting free will, even if, on occasion, the cosmos seems to have an agenda of its own.

Relationship Changes: The Sun/Moon Midpoint

Relationship Changes: The Sun/Moon Midpoint

Learn Astrology’s most important love indicators

OK class, today we’re going to talk about a very powerful tool in the astrologer’s toolbox. I warn you: It’s not for the faint of heart. There is a little bit of math and a whole lot of meaning behind what I want to introduce to you.

You may or may not have heard of this before, depending on your level of interest in Astrology. But I assure you, the information I am about to share is relevant for each and every one of you — I’m talking about Midpoints.

Before you run away from this page I urge you to stay with me — just a little longer. I promise it’ll be worth your while. You see, although Midpoints are a rather advanced tool, they are SO important.

Simply put, a midpoint in your chart is the degree you get when you calculate the distance between two planets.  Let’s keep this really simple. Imagine your Sun is at 15 degrees of Capricorn and your Moon is at 5 degrees of Capricorn. Well, the halfway mark between these two planets would be 10 degrees of Capricorn.

Are you with me so far? Good.

What Astrology’s Midpoints mean

So in this imaginary example, 10 degrees of Capricorn becomes an extremely sensitive degree in that person’s chart. This would be the Sun/Moon midpoint. It’s a degree that, when activated by transit, suggests MAJOR changes in relationship. It’s also a degree that, when activated by a planet or point in another person’s chart, suggests that you are in a tremendously important relationship.

If your sweetheart’s personal planets are conjunct, square or opposite your Sun/Moon midpoint (with an orb of two degrees or less) then you, my friend, have met a potential marriage partner. Same goes if his or her Sun/Moon midpoint touches one of your planets by hard aspect. Only hard aspects count with midpoints by the way (conjunction, square or opposition). Why? Hard aspects are drivers. They make stuff happen. Soft aspects (sextile and trines) merely lend support.

OK, so if you have stayed with me this far, I’m thrilled. You have no idea how exciting midpoints are in the birth chart. Your chart is rich with meaningful midpoints that, when triggered (by transits, progressions, solar arcs, or in synastry), are connected to major developments and relationships in your life.

Why the Sun/Moon midpoint is so important

But for now let’s stick with the absolute granddaddy of midpoints. If there is only one midpoint in your entire birth chart you decide to pay attention to, it should be the Sun/Moon midpoint.

Why? Well it’s kind of straightforward if you think about it. The Sun and Moon are two of the most vital components of our horoscope. The Sun is our essential life force and vitality, while the Moon represents our habit patterns and emotional needs. The Sun represents our father or male energy in our chart, while the Moon represents mother or feminine energy. Together, the Sun/Moon midpoint is all about blending the masculine with feminine for their strongest combined expression.

It follows that in terms of relationship Astrology and in predictive Astrology, the Sun/Moon midpoint is likely to be an active factor as it pertains to relationship change. Because this is a blog, and you know I enjoy teaching using my real life experiences as an example, I will illustrate.

Certain Midpoints can indicate marriage

My Sun is 17 Taurus and my Moon is 11 Sagittarius. Without giving you a math headache, trust me when I tell you that my Astrology software correctly calculates my Sun/Moon midpoint to be 29 degrees of Aquarius. This degree, as well as the degrees opposite (29 Leo) and square (29 Taurus or Scorpio), are highly sensitive degrees for relationship in my life.
The best way to test this theory is by looking into my relationship history.

I met my now ex-husband in September 1991. Transiting Jupiter was moving through my 5th House of Romance. The week I met him, transiting Jupiter was at 29 degrees Leo, triggering my Sun/Moon midpoint. Oh, and his natal Moon placement happens to be 29 degrees Leo, which means a very important personal planet in his chart also triggered my

Sun/Moon midpoint. Hello, future husband!

Fast forward to our wedding day in November 1997. My Progressed chart reveals the Sun/Moon midpoint connections dramatically. That’s because my Progressed Ascendant was 28 degrees Taurus, which means my Progressed Descendant was 28 degrees Scorpio. So my Progressed Ascendant/Descendant axis — the marriage axis — was square my Sun/Moon midpoint. Boo ya!

But wait, there’s more.

Other Midpoints can indicate divorce

Let’s consider the not so happy time — our divorce. We were legally separated a couple of days after the February 2007 Full Moon that was conjunct my Sun/Moon Midpoint at 29 degrees Aquarius. In my Solar Arc directed chart, the Ascendant/Descendant axis was square my Sun/Moon midpoint. Ouch.

The day of my divorce was March 10, 2011. Transiting Neptune was precisely conjunct my Sun/Moon midpoint at 29 Aquarius. Talk about relationship dissolution! Literal Astrology folks!

Now, let’s look to the only other significant relationship I had after my separation and divorce. I met this gentleman on March 1, 2008, when the Transiting North Node was conjunct my Sun/Moon Midpoint AND my Progressed Moon was also conjunct my Sun/Moon midpoint. Hello!

Looking to the future

We broke up this past December as transiting Saturn squared my Sun/Moon Midpoint. Cringe. Currently, we are trying to be “just friends.” Transiting Saturn will make two more passes over my Sun/Moon midpoint over the summer. My Progressed Moon is currently square my Sun/Moon midpoint. We’ll see what happens. Astrologically, it doesn’t look so good.

Luckily, it’s time for transiting Jupiter to make that opposition to my natal Sun/Moon midpoint late this summer, too, at 29 Leo. New love potential? Stay tuned…

And there you have it, folks. The magical Sun/Moon midpoint. As you can see, it is a MAJOR factor in relationship dynamics.

Class dismissed.

Moon Folklore for Your Tuesday

Wiccan Priestess

Moon Folklore for Your Tuesday

To make things flourish and grow, do a spell during the waxing moon — from the first day of the new moon to the first day of the Full Moon. At this time work for an increase of anything, or to diminish something.

To decrease anything do a spell during the waning period of the moon. This is a good time to get rid of any bad situation, including illness.

To put a stop to anything irksome, choose the second day of the Full Moon. Use silver and white to establish a link with the Moon.

During this phase the Moon can be seen in the wester sky after the sun dips below the horizon at sunset. The moon is close to the sun in the sky and mostly dark except for the right edge of the moon which becomes brighter as the days get closer to the next phase which is a First Quarter with a 50% illumination.

This day celebrates the birth of Mesrop Ma tots, a missionary to the remoter parts of his native Armenia who, in order to provide his countrymen with books in their own language, invented a 36-letter alphabet(still used today with the addition of a few extra letters). He is also credited with inventing the 38-letter Georgian alphabet.

Tuesday’s Witchery

SPELL WEAVING

Tuesday’s Witchery

Tuesday is the day to work any magick that falls in the category of increasing strength, courage, bravery, and passion. All of these intense emotions are linked to this day’s energies, and spells designed around these themes will have extra punch when performed on this magickal day.

So, let’s add a little passion and conviction into your life! Break out the daring red pieces of your wardrobe, and put a little pizzazz into your day. Work with Lilith, and see what she has to teach you about personal power and sexuality. Meditate on Tiw/Tyr and Mars, and see what those ancient warrior gods will show you about new tactics, strategies, and claiming personal victories in your life. Practice conjuring up that astral weapon from the meditation and use it wisely for protection and for courage.

Create a philter for courage and protection or handcraft your own Witch’s jar to remove negativity from your home. See what other Witch crafts you can conjure up with Tuesday’s magick. Create some kitchen magick on this Tuesday by whipping up a spicy stew-add in a few Mars-associated ingredients such as carrots, peppers, and garlic. Empower the stew for success, and then treat yourself and your family to a good, hearty meal. Try working with a little aromatherapy and burn some spicy or coffee-scented candles to increase your energy level.

Check the sky at night, and see if you can find the reddish planet Mars up in the heavens. Not sure where to look? Check an astronomy magazine or search the Web for more information. Become a magickal warrior and move forward in your life with strength, courage, and compassion. Embrace the side of yourself that loves a good challenge and that is passionate and daring! Banish fear, and face your future with strength and conviction. Believe in yourself and in your dreams, work hard, and you will win every time.

The Witches Guide to Tuesday

wiccan

The Witches Guide to Tuesday

A god, goddess, or planet governs each day of the week. It is usually easy to spot the ruler of the day by its name. The word Tuesday, however, is not so easy, but if we look at the word in Spanish, Martes, we clearly see its connections to Mars.

Because Tuesday revolves around the energy of Mars, Tuesdays are good for business, mechanical things, buying and selling animals, hunting, beginning studies, gardening, sexual activities, and confrontation. This is a day for sex magick, energy, stamina, and health. As in the old saying, Tuesdays child is full of grace, is also good for success magick and defense against enemies.

Angels of Tuesday are Camael, Samael, Satael, Amabiel, Friagne, and Hyniel. When invoked, Camael takes the form of a leopard. In Druid mythology he is a god of war, which is why we see him associated with Mars. Camael is said to be a member of the “Magnificent Seven” in some circles. Camael is another “terminator” angel.

Samael walks both worlds as a magician and sorcerer. some see him as the angel of death, others as “the bright and poisonous one.” Many consider him more of a demon, and accuse him of being Satan. However, there is reference to the satans (plural) as enforcers of the law, a sort of angelic police, if you will. Supposedly, when Samael is around, dogs howl in the night. On one hand, he is the ruler of the fifth heaven and in charge of two million angels; on the other, he is the one who changed into a serpent and convinced Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit of knowledge.

Satael is an angel of air invoked in magic rites and is the presiding spirit of the planet Mars. Amabiel is another spirit of the planet Mars; however he spends his energy on issues of human sexuality. Friagne, also an angel of this day, is invoked from the east. He is a member of the fifth heaven. Hyniel also belongs to this day and is subject to the east wind.

On Tuesdays the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Mars, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. These four hours are the strongest ones to do ritual in. Check your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac to determine your local sunrise.

Magickal Days of the Week – Tuesday

Darkest Heart

Magickal Days of the Week – Tuesday

Named for the Norse god Tyr, who was a deity of heroism and combat, Tuesday is a very martial sort of day – color associations include bright red and oranges, as well as warrior-like metals such as iron and steel.

The ancient Romans called this day Martis, after the warrior god Mars – other deities associated with Tuesday include Ares, the Morrighan, and other gods of battle and glory. Red gemstones like rubies and garnets come into play on Tuesdays, as do herbs and plants such as thistles, holly, coneflowers and cacti – you’ll notice these are all sharp, prickly plants!

One of the interesting – and more than a little amusing – aspects of Tuesday magic is that in addition to war and conflict against your enemies, this is a day also associated with marriage. You can also use this day of the week for magical workings connected to protection and initiation. Use Tuesday to assert yourself, make a mark and stake your claims.

Oniata

Themes: Recreation, Good Sportsmanship

Symbols: Early-blooming Flowers; Snow

About Oniata: Oniata, an Iroquois Goddess, embodies what is means to be a good sport. According to legend she came to live with the Iroquois, who found her beaunty distracting, so much so that ment left their families just to catch a glimpse of her radiance. When Oniata found out about this, rather than getting agry with the men, she left the earth. The only trace of her beauty she left behind was sprouting of spring flowers peeking out from the melting snow.

To Do Today: Plant some early blooming seeds today so that when they blossom Oniata’s good humor and temperament can also bloom in your life.
In Canda, people take this opportunity to enjoy the last remnants of winter by participating in various sporting activities (especially skating) and by making snow sculptures. Try the latter activity yourself, perhaps create a flower our of packed snow to honor and welcome Oniata. If you live in a warm climate, you can blend up some ice cubes to a snow consistency for sculpting and make it into a snowcone afterwards to internalize the energy! Or, consider going to an ice rink for a little rest and relaxation. Return outside and appreciate any flowers nearby. Oniata lives in their fragrance and loveliness.

About the Celtic Tree Month of Nuin – Ash – February 18 – March 17

In the Norse eddas, Yggdrasil, the world tree, was an Ash. The spear of Odin was made from the branch of this tree, which is also known by the Celtic name Nion, pronounced knee-un. This is one of three trees sacred to the Druids (Ash, Oak and Thorn), and this is a good month to do magic that focuses on the inner self. Associated with ocean rituals, magical potency, prophetic dreams and spiritual journeys, the Ash can be used for making magical (and mundane) tools — these are said to be more productive than tools made from other wood. If you place Ash berries in a cradle, it protects the child from being taken away as a changeling by mischevious Fae.

The Goddess is Alive

Moon shines down upon a sea of Light,
Shifting sands lay singing in the Heart of the Night.
I looked upon a scene that gripped me to the core,
White-clad maidens below were dancing on the shore.

Sweet sounds slipped from moon-lit throats,
Wind whipped hair abound,
Lit by the light within and without,
The Women circled ’round.

As I stood, water engulfed my feet,
My body swayed to your Heavenly Heart beat.
Wind and wave and fire light,
Paled in my mind Earthly delight.

Time slipped by me as you held your embrace,
And windblown spray covered my face.
Protected deep within your Womb,
I could feel the tender pain of Life’s bloom.

Candles flared high as the Dance progressed,
Deep inside with a healing touch you blessed.
All around, wind, wave and fire shouted of your life,
Your light speared deep within, soothing my strife.

Divine Mother, Goddess of Light,
To you I come seeking protection from the night.
Come home to shelter within your arm,
Surrounded by Love, hidden from harm.

Holy Mother, Queen of Heaven and Earth,
From you we all trace our Birth.
Heavenly Goddess, light from above,
Shine down upon us, we pray for your Love.

The Moon is void from 6:11 AM to 2:11 PM.
The Moon is waxing and in its Waxing Crescent phase.
The New Moon/Solar Eclipse occurred in the sign of Aquarius on the 15th, and the First Quarter Moon will occur on February 23rd.

Daily Overview of the Planets and Stars for Tuesday, February 20th

The Moon continues its transit of Aries until 2:12 PM EST, aligning with Uranus this morning, and our feelings and desires are fiery, immediate, and hard to ignore. This afternoon, the Moon moves into Taurus, later harmonizing with the Pisces Sun, and we seek out more calm and cooperation.

With tonight’s semi-square between Mercury and Pluto, however, we may be suspicious or feel pressure to know the truth about a matter. There can be difficulty getting our message across or winning support for our ideas with Pallas and Chiron forming a semi-square. We might also be sensitive to imbalances, perhaps feeling that we’re mistreated under this influence. Thinking may be a little troubled or chaotic now, but we’re moving towards a Mercury-Saturn sextile, exact tomorrow afternoon, that helps us sort out our thoughts, plans, and priorities.

The Moon is void from 6:11 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Uranus), until the Moon enters Taurus at 2:12 PM EST.

Moon in Aries

We’re motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.

The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

The sky this week for February 20 to 25

Two stunning star clusters, one of the sky’s largest asterisms, and the majestic Aldebaran all visit the sky this week.
By Richard Talcott

Tuesday, February 20

One of the sky’s largest asterisms — a recognizable pattern of stars separate from a constellation’s form — occupies center stage on February evenings. To trace the so-called Winter Hexagon, start with southern Orion’s luminary, Rigel. From there, the hexagon makes a clockwise loop. The second stop is brilliant Sirius in Canis Major. Next, pick up Procyon in the faint constellation Canis Minor, then the twins Castor and Pollux in Gemini, followed by Capella in Auriga, Aldebaran in Taurus, and finally back to Rigel.

Wednesday, February 21

The dwarf planet Ceres reached opposition and peak visibility in late January, and it remains a fine sight this month. It currently shines at magnitude 7.2 and is an easy object to spot through binoculars. The largest member of the asteroid belt resides in the northern part of the constellation Cancer the Crab, which appears in the east once darkness falls and climbs highest in the south around 11 p.m. local time. This evening, Ceres lies 0.6° due south of the magnitude 5.7 star Sigma1 (σ1) Cancri.

Thursday, February 22

The half-lit Moon rides high in the south just after sunset and then sinks slowly toward the western horizon throughout the rest of the evening. Our satellite officially reaches its First Quarter phase at 3:09 a.m. EST tomorrow morning. The Moon spends the evening hours in western Taurus, not far from the Pleiades and Hyades star clusters.

Friday, February 23

The waxing gibbous Moon lies just east of the 1st-magnitude star Aldebaran this evening. Depending on where in North America you live, the gap appears to be 4° or 5° in early evening and grows about 0.5° every hour thereafter. Aldebaran represents the eye of Taurus the Bull and appears to mark one tip of the V-shaped Hyades star cluster. In reality, Aldebaran lies only about half as far from Earth as the cluster does.

Saturday, February 24

Mars follows about two hours behind Jupiter these winter mornings. The magnitude 0.9 Red Planet rises shortly after 2 a.m. local time and appears 25° high as twilight starts to paint the sky. It lies against the backdrop of southern Ophiuchus, and this morning has a close encounter with the 9th-magnitude globular star cluster NGC 6287. Astroimagers will want to capture the planet as it passes just 15′ north of the cluster. Unfortunately, the view of Mars through a telescope proves disappointing — its disk spans only 6″ and shows no detail.

Sunday, February 25

Although Saturn passed on the opposite side of the Sun from Earth only two months ago, it already appears conspicuous in the southeastern sky before dawn. From mid-northern latitudes, the ringed planet lies 15° above the horizon as twilight begins. Saturn shines at magnitude 0.6 and appears significantly brighter than any of the background stars in its host constellation, Sagittarius the Archer.
