The Goddess Companion

The Goddess Companion

The desert wind lends you wings
to fly across the land.
You fly across the land
bearing the decrees of heaven.

We all bow to you, trembling,
fearful of your stormy radiance.
We all bow to you,
knowing you are the epitome of justice.
Bowing to you, we weep in lamentation at our wrongdoing.

Sighing great sighs,
we walk around your shrine and pray,
Sighing great sighs,
we attempt to follow your precise path.

~Song of Akkadian Princess Enheduanna to Goddess Inanna

We are all part of the universe, all children of the Goddess. So how can we possibly do wrong?

Is not every imaginable action part of the universe and therefore somehow just?

It is not as simple as that, for some actions unite us more fully to the cosmos while others seperate us from it. All people who have ever existed have made similar distinctions between right and wrong, good and evil. The Goddess, like any good mother, assists her children in choosing right and punishes them when they do not. She can be wrathful when we fail to satisfy her, the ancient prayers tell us. When we pull away from her in our hearts, when we choose to live without attending to her laws, she will correct us. To be a true follower of the Goddess means to seek constantly to live in congruence with her inner laws.

Spell – A- Day – Tribute to Mother Tongue Spell

Spell – A- Day – Tribute to Mother Tongue Spell

In Bangladesh, this is Shaheed Day. Tribute is paid today to one’s mother language, and thanks are given for the freedom and gift to speak it. Light a candle today in honor of the freedom you have to use your mother language. Gaze into the candle flame, and give thanks to all those that have fought for this freedom. Give thanks for the many different ways that people fight for freedom around the world. Pause and consider that many of these battles are fought peaceably, while many require sacrifice and blood. Make a pledge to be grateful for all the freedoms that that you have. As you gaze into the flame, consider how you can contribute to the cause of freedom for others who still may lack it, and for future generations whose battles for freedom are still unknown. Ask how you can become a flame for freedom and justice. Make a list of those things that you feel you can honestly do and create a plan to take action.

Herbal Bathing

Herbal Bathing

By Kami McBride

Herbal bathing is a great way to relax, heal and support healthy skin function. The skin is the largest organ in the body. It contributes to many important functions such as secretion, absorption, excretion, temperature regulation, immune function, and sensory reception. The skin has receptor sites that transfer information through the nervous system to the spinal cord and brain. It not only provides a boundary between us and the rest of the world, but because of its millions of receptor sites, is a major player in how we perceive, experience, and interact with the world.

The skin is also a major organ of elimination just like our lungs, kidneys and colon. It plays a key role in helping our body to eliminate toxins, heavy metals, and carcinogenic substances. Herbs have many healing benefits for the skin and there are many simple herbal bathing treatments that can help our skin do its job of keeping us healthy.

Heartwings Love Notes 352: Shaking Up to Settle Down

Heartwings Love Notes 352: Shaking Up to Settle Down

Heartwings says, “Sometimes a shakeup is necessary in order that opportunities may come to call.”

How happy we are to have new blue carpeting in our sunroom. Yet the day the three pipes burst and flooded the original carpet I was extremely upset and frazzled. Imagine seeing water gushing from your heating system in three places and trying to stem the tide. I had no idea how to turn off the water for that part of the house. Imagine opening your garage door seeing water and bits of wallboard raining down on your car. I lost it; I started hollering; I was frantic.

Now as I contemplate the lovely carpet that matches the curtains and the rearranged, much better organized room that emerged from this shakeup I rejoice in the outcome of what was initially a very uncomfortable experience. It may be that once in a while I need an unexpected upset not only to shake me out of my usual habit patterns but also to show me what else is possible.

When we first moved in and arranged the room we had less in it. Items were added as we acquired them. That the way it was, was not the best it could be had never occurred to us. We were simply working with what was already there. This is also true in life. Habit patterns evolve: I may take the same road simply because I have always gone that way and then one day I take a different route because I must and unexpectedly it works better.

Although we wondered why the room was always cold, if the pipes had not frozen we would never have known that the thermostat did not work properly. The serviceable though unattractive carpet that was there when we bought the house was adequate and regardless how much we disliked it we would never have replaced it voluntarily. The new furniture arrangement was an absolutely unexpected bonus. Truly, although I might not have thought so at the time, I am so grateful for all that occurred.

May you discover unexpected blessings from what appears to be disaster.

Seasons of the Witch ( Some ancient and some not so much!)

Seasons of the Witch ( Some  ancient and some not so much!)

Venice: PANCAKE DAY. Pancake    tossing, pancake races. King Carnival is greeted with much ceremony. He is a very fat man,
his straw body stuffed    with explosives. He is burned at midnight.

Terminalia – On this  day, Romans honored boundary god Terminus. Neighbors met at the boundary stones between their properties, with the women bringing torches ignited on their  hearths, the sons with baskets of produce from the property and the daughters with special honey cakes. The women kindled twin altar fires made of neatly  interlaced sticks. The sons held their baskets over the fire and the girls shook them three times to scatter its contents into the flames, then fed the cakes  to the fire. Employees stood by dressed in white, wine in hand. The two landowners slaughtered a lamb and a suckling pig and let the blood spatter on the  stone. Then the two families sat down for a feast.
A good day to honor boundaries of all sorts, from property boundaries to personal boundaries. How can you mark and define your space? What tokens will you  set up to show others where your boundaries are? And how will you honor these?
Rufus, Anneli, The World Holiday Book, Harper San Francisco 1994
St Mildburga – This sixth century Shropshire saint was associated with plowing and sewing from an early date. She protected a newly-sown field from the  depredations of worms and geese. While fleeing from her enemies she caused water to spring up out of the ground and a field of barley to grow to maturity in  one day. Her feast day falls in the middle of the spring wheat sowing season in Shropshire. Berger,
Pamela, The Goddess Obscured, Beacon Press 1985
St Polycarp – The LaPlante sisters recommend St Polycarp as the saint to invoke when looking for a parking spot, although the connection between his life (he  was a student of the Apostle John, a Bishop of Smyrna and martyred at the age of 86) and parking places is obscure. They suggest the following prayer:  “Polycarp, find me a spot.”     LaPlante, Alice & Clare, Heaven Help Us: the Worrier’s Guide to the Patron Saints, Dell 1999

NOTE: Because of the large number of        ancient calendars, many in simultaneous use, as well as different ways of computing holy days (marked by the annual inundation, the solar year, the        lunar month, the rising of key stars, and other celestial and terrestial events), you may find these holy days celebrated a few days earlier or later        at your local temple

Current Moon Phase for February 24th: Last Quarter

Last Quarter Moon

(waning/34% of illumination)

The time of reaping is at hand. There is a feeling of completion infused into the atmosphere during the Last Quarter Moon. The opportunity opens to recognize how far you’ve come in various parts of your life. This is not a good time for new beginnings, but rather a reflective period suited to evaluating how you have been using your time and what has been accomplished. Issues of authority may arise. This Moon phase supports taking responsibility for actively tying up the loose ends of projects that are already underway.

Feng Shui Tip for February 24th: Magical Taoist Feng Shui

I’d like to close out February, the month of love, by sharing one of my favorite techniques for finding a soul mate. Sorry guys, but this tip only holds true for single ladies. Magical Taoist Feng Shui says that wearing a ring on your right index finger for three months will attract a partner to you. Once you’ve met your mate, switch the ring to the middle finger of your right hand in order to literally engage your perfect partner. If you feel that the romance the ring brought you is worth a lifetime, wear it on your right middle finger for three more months. I know this cure works — I really do!

Your Charm for February 24th is The Scarab

Your Charm for Today

The Scarab

Today’s Meaning:

The Scarab is a symbol of creation. Someone close to you will soon announce the conception of new life, life that will positively affect you within this aspect.

General Description:

Scarabs are engraved stones representing the Scarab beetle (Scarabaeus sacer), which rolls each of its eggs in a ball ofmud and may be seen on sandy slopes in the hot sunshine of Egypt; rounding the pellet by pushing it backwards uphill with its hind legs, and allowing it to roll down again. The ancient Egyptian compared this living germ to the sun, which brings matter into life, and the Scarab became the symbol of creation, and sacred to their Sun-god, Khepera. It was their custom as far back as 4,600 years B.C. to bury these engraved Scarabs with their dead, and frequently one was placed in the heart itself. It was an emblem of re-creation, and symbolized this evolution of the soul through eternity.

Raven has long been known as the magical bird—the one who carries our messages and our prayers to spirit. Raven has been called a shape-shifter, and his message to you today is one of change—expect the unexpected, but know that Raven is flying close and will help you transform life’s challenges into life’s greatest blessings.

Your Ancient Symbol Card for February 24th is The Phoenix

Your Ancient Symbol Card for Today

The Phoenix

The mythical, endearing Phoenix has long been a symbol of rebirth, renewal, and coming full circle. Tired in both body and spirit the aged Phoenix combust into flames and from its ashes is reborn. The Phoenix does not indicate change so much as it does renewal and revitalization. It denotes the completion of a cycle and beginning anew.

As a daily card, The Phoenix suggest you are at a place where some aspects of your life have reached the end of a cycle. Your energies may be weakened from use and stretched over too many arenas to be as effective as they once were. As a result, now may be a good time for you to take a step back and allow yourself time to revitalize both your physical and spiritual self.

Today’s Tarot Card for February 24th is The Devil

The Devil

Monday, Feb 24th, 2014

What has traditionally been known as the Devil card expresses the realm of the Taboo, the culturally rejected wildness and undigested shadow side that each of us carries in our subconscious. This shadow is actually at the core of our being, which we cannot get rid of and will never succeed in taming. From its earliest versions, which portrayed a vampire-demon, this card evoked the Church-fueled fear that a person could “lose their soul” to wild and passionate forces.

The image which emerged in the mid-1700’s gives us a more sophisticated rendition — that of the “scapegoated Goddess,” whose esoteric name is Baphomet. Volcanic reserves of passion and primal desire empower her efforts to overcome the pressure of stereotyped roles and experience true freedom of soul. Tavaglione’s highly evolved image (Stella deck) portrays the magical formula for harnessing and transmuting primal and obsessive emotions into transformative energies. As a part of the Gnostic message of Tarot, this fearsome passion and power must be reintegrated into the personality, to fuel the soul’s passage from mortal to immortal.

Your Love Horoscopes for the Week of February 24th

There’s so much happening this week it might feel like you’re on a romantic roller coaster ride. On Monday, Earth and Water signs can rejoice. Thanks to a harmonious link between Venus and Saturn, love will be secure and sustaining. On Friday, Mercury turns direct, and all of those pesky communication mishaps between you and someone special will begin to melt away. The real headline news, however, happens on Saturday. A New Moon in Pisces will leave you feeling dreamy, sentimental and extra romantic. On the same day, however, Mars will turn retrograde in partnership Libra, and it will remain in this phase until May 19. Your ability to take action that will help you make progress in a relationship may feel stifled. You libido might also suffer.
Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Anticipate a significant slowdown in the partnership department. Although Mars will turn retrograde on Saturday, you’ll begin to feel it as the week begins because this is your ruling planet. Until May 19, you may feel as if no matter how hard you push you can’t move forward in your relationship with someone close. Consider that now is not the time to push, but instead to settle in and be open to re-evaluating whether or not the energy you’ve put into your relationship thus far is adding to or detracting from your well-being.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

Finally, you’ll feel as if everything is moving along exactly as you’d hoped in your relationship. On Monday, it’s likely that you and your mate will not only be on the same wavelength, but will also show incredible appreciation for being each other’s rock of support. If single, conversations with a love interest are less likely to end in disappointment on Friday. In addition, doors open for you socially on Saturday. You might join a new club or organization, which will only increase your chances to meet someone special.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

While your thoughts may become clearer by Friday, they’re not likely to help you get out of an inevitable struggle in your love life. After Saturday, you’ll enter a long stretch where Mars — the planet of assertion — turns retrograde in your romance sector. Until May 19, you may feel as if it’s impossible to move forward in hot pursuit of someone if you’re single. You may also struggle with going back and forth about a “friends with benefits” situation that no longer satisfies you. You might even go on a temporary sexual hiatus.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

Getting what you know you deserve in love has been a quest for quite some time. Since October 2012, you’ve been clarifying your “must haves” in romance, as well as what would constitute a deal-breaker for you. Finally, it appears you’re making progress in this area. On Monday, it’s likely you’ll feel as if you and your mate are on solid ground — even if you’ve recently tackled a few bumps. Or, if you’ve made a decision to end a relationship, then you’ll know you’re being true to yourself. Be proud.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

At last, communication between you and your partner will resume some semblance of normalcy! After Friday, Mercury will turn direct in your relationship sector, and you’ll be able to exchange ideas and make important decisions together without all of the confusion and mishap. The sexiest news, however, will occur on Saturday. You might fantasize about or be open to an erotic encounter with someone special. In the past you might have considered this as too taboo for your taste, but now you’ll have a change of heart. Ooh la la!

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

Communication with your lover will be the one thing you can count on. If you need a sounding board, or if you have an important decision to make, know that your lover is the person to turn to. He or she will have a practical approach and the ability to weed out what’s really important. This will help you focus — and relax. Also, you and your sweetie might have a special conversation about the future of your relationship. The best is yet to come.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You may feel as if you’ve completely run out of steam. Your sex drive and vitality may begin to lag, and it’s also possible you’ll lose any motivation to attempt to make a floundering relationship work. All of this is a clear signal to be gentle with yourself now and to re-prioritize your goals –especially in the context of relationship. For some, the realization that giving your all in a partnership while your mate does all the taking will finally leave you completely exhausted. If this is the case, take a personal time out. Regroup.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Encouraging words between you and your love on Monday might be exactly what you need to sustain you for the rest of the week. A conversation about one of your heaviest responsibilities will help you carry the weight and remind you that you’re more than capable of pulling through, even in the toughest of times. If single, a brilliant New Moon on Saturday will illuminate your true love sector. You’ll have incredible prospects to meet someone who takes your breath away.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

An electrifying sexual encounter is possible this week, thanks to a sizzling connection between expansive Jupiter and Uranus — the planet of sudden events — now touring your house of pleasure. Whether single or attached, the temptation to indulge in a one-night stand or even an affair is possible. Don’t jump into anything you’ll regret in the morning! After Saturday, your social life may turn into more work than you think it is worth. If you find yourself becoming reclusive in order to avoid an uncomfortable situation, remember that all you’re doing is delaying the inevitable.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

If you and a friend have mutual romantic feelings for one another, but have hesitated exploring this potential, things may change on Monday. The insecurity lies in the fact that neither one of you wants to risk damaging the incredible friendship you’ve developed. This week, however, you may finally realize that what you have is the foundation for what may turn into a truly remarkable love of a lifetime. The cosmic support over the weekend only enhances this potential.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Save important conversations between you and your sweetie for after Friday. By then, Mercury, the planet of communication, will turn direct in your sign. You’ll feel a stronger level of control when it comes to conveying your thoughts in the way you intend. In addition, if you have a life-changing decision to make about a relationship, you’ll be less likely to question yourself later. Also, feel free to sign any contracts related to your partnership such as a lease for a new apartment together or even a pre-nup. All systems go!

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Resist the temptation to spend wildly on your lover on Wednesday, or to take a reckless risk with your money together. What appears to be a “sure thing” is likely only too good to be true, despite your mutual enthusiasm. You can anticipate an enchanting day for romance on Friday. You and your sweetheart will easily share emotions — a bonus for any relationship! Then, on Saturday, a personal fresh start is likely. If single, set your intentions for attracting someone who meets all of your ideals.

The Daily Horoscopes for Monday, February 24th

Yesterday’s confusion beings to fade yet we can still feel the lingering influence of our creative imagination. The Moon’s shift into hardworking Capricorn at 8:50 am EST gives us good reason to concentrate on reality instead of elusive dreams. Thankfully, practical thoughts bring a sense of satisfaction. Additionally, a serious Venus-Saturn alignment cools the energy, extending the sweet feelings from a magical moment into something that lasts.

Aries Horoscope

(Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Obstacles you encounter now probably stem from something you haven’t shared yet. The most obvious solution is to come clean by being as direct as possible, although this strategy of radical honesty can lead to other problems. Not everyone wants to hear the truth. Nevertheless, handling the consequences of your current disclosures is easier than shadow boxing with an enemy you cannot see.

Taurus Horoscope

(Apr 20 – May 20)

You might have a tough time dealing with the lessons of love you must learn now that your key planet Venus is receiving a stern message from authoritative Saturn. Luckily, you’re aspiring toward a life that is based upon truth and not on fantasy because you prefer the safety of long-term stability. If something enjoyable captures your attention today, savor the excitement for a while and then choose a more conservative route. True satisfaction is worth the wait.

Gemini Horoscope

(May 21 – Jun 20)

You are feeling quite grounded today, even if your fantasies lure you away from your work. You have an excellent sense of balance now, enabling you to meet your obligations in a responsible manner while still having a bit of fun. Of course, there are rules to follow and you need to restrain from going too far with any indulgence. Thankfully, being content with what you currently have in your life is the quickest path to personal fulfillment.

Cancer Horoscope

(Jun 21 – Jul 22)

You may be so skillful at controlling your mood swings today that you’re able to sidestep an unpleasant meltdown. You intuitively know what works best and you can modify your actions and words to produce the results you want. Since sweet Venus’ hookup with taskmaster Saturn could trigger feelings of low self-esteem, be sure that you speak with love in your heart instead of fear. Your positive energy will be reflected back at you in ways you can’t imagine.

Leo Horoscope

(Jul 23 – Aug 22)

Although you don’t want to blur the distinction between what’s real and what’s not, you still could be a bit worried about your mental meanderings today. The overlap is subtle, but you might even try to convince yourself that your fantasies are true now. There’s nothing wrong with your beliefs as long as you don’t expect everyone to accept your truth as theirs. Focus on achieving your goals but keep your heart open to love.

Virgo Horoscope

(Aug 23 – Sep 22)

If a friend or partner appears to be out of touch with reality today, it may be prudent to respond with support instead of judgment. Even if you don’t think that others have taken the best course of action, try to understand what’s motivating them or your negativity could damage the friendship. On the other hand, you can consciously choose to expand your awareness, encouraging the relationship to deepen and grow.

Libra Horoscope

(Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You are tempted to make changes in your daily exercise routine or in your diet based upon wanting a healthier lifestyle. However, you might realize that seeking a spiritual answer isn’t the best way to make progress on this front. Instead, look for ways to add excitement into your life without turning it upside down. Being creative while working within the limitations of your current circumstances can bring more stability at this time than any other approach.

Scorpio Horoscope

(Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Living in the present moment may sound like a great idea unless you have other long-term responsibilities that just cannot be ignored today. Use your creative imagination to envision your ideal future, but keep yourself anchored to your current financial and emotional commitments. Thankfully, this current safety line can prevent you from making a disruptive choice. Explore all your options before deciding what to do next; you’re not in as much of a hurry as you think.

Sagittarius Horoscope

(Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Your anxieties may surface now, yet you can’t force the process to speed up just to suit your needs. The current restraints feel rather inconvenient, especially if you would prefer to ignore them and move on. Nevertheless, an emotional conflict still could heat up and sidetrack your day. Do whatever you can to alleviate the pressure, since it will likely take several more days to resolve.

Capricorn Horoscope

(Dec 22 – Jan 19)

Waves of joy may wash on to the shores of your awareness today, but you might not be able to feel the unrestrained ecstasy. Your key planet Saturn is moderating the pleasure principle of Venus, helping you extend the good times so they last longer. Use your positive attitude to build a strong foundation for future experiences. There’s no rush, so give your plans a while longer to mature and develop.

Aquarius Horoscope

(Jan 20 – Feb 18)

You have a very down-to-earth approach to managing your intense emotions now. Responsible Saturn is your traditional ruling planet and its supportive alignment with resourceful Venus brings you a sweet sense of satisfaction today. You feel good about the work you are doing so don’t sit around idly, waiting for something momentous to happen. Convert your determination into action. You don’t need to know all the details yet about where you are going; just start moving.

Pisces Horoscope

(Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Ironically, your trustworthy allies may seem to thwart your plans now, but paradoxically they can do it in such a way that actually makes you more successful. There is no need to resist the criticism that you receive if you simply accept that there’s always room for improvement. But don’t waste your energy feeling discouraged by short-term setbacks; instead, focus on developing your long-term plans and making them even better than before.

‘THINK on THESE THINGS’ for February 21

‘THINK on THESE THINGS’
By Joyce Sequichie Hifler

Everyone must have a way of life. The home, the position, the social level, the health of the body and of the emotions are all a part of daily living. But beyond that there must be a reason, a way of life. We must believe in something, live by something, and have a shelter within ourselves where there are no pretenses.

Life cannot be one carefree round of living on the surface. It is a thing of depth and width and height, and full of avenues never investigated. Like the body, it is made up of many parts. Beneath the skin there must beat a heart, a network of nerves, the strength of muscles, and much we cannot begin to explain.

As the body depends upon the heart we must have in our lives something to depend upon, something with which to identify ourselves. There must be a central point, a hitching post to keep all of life running smoothly.

We need something to help us retreat as well as to go forward. We must have something to live by, as well as something for which we would willingly die. We need divine wisdom to see, and the strength to break away, those almost invisible fingers of possessiveness that grip our lives.

We do not simply live, we live because. We live because of others, because of beautiful things and times and places. We live because God gave us life, to be happy in, and to find a special way.

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – February 21

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – February 21

“Every thing or living being that exists in this world, be it trees, flowers, birds, grasses, rocks, soil of the earth, or human beings, has its unique manner of existence –its essence, its spirit that makes it what it is. That is what is meant by connectedness.”

–Larry P. Aitken, CHIPPEWA

Scientists are finally realizing what the Elders have taught for thousands of years-every- thing is connected. Because everything is interconnected, whatever you do to any one thing, you do to everything. If you poison any part of the earth, the poison eventually affects everything else. If you poison the plants, the birds will eat the plants, which poisons the birds. The birds are eaten by humans which poisons the humans. The humans will have babies who could be deformed because the plants were poisoned. We must learn to live in harmony with the earth. We must learn to think good things. Every good thought is felt by everything, which causes everything to be happy.

Creator, let my thoughts only be good thoughts.

February 21 – Daily Feast

February 21 – Daily Feast

A young Indian boy named Slow was so brave in battle when he was fourteen that he was renamed Sitting Bull. He had a great love for birds and imitated their songs – finally writing songs of his own and chanting them. How many of us have been called slow? If not in one category, then in another. The change comes when we study something we love, doing what comes so naturally that we succeed in an area that was totally unexpected. Never underestimate the power of small beginnings. Sufficiency in all things more often than not begins in small ways. Little ideas and tiny steps evolve into greater accomplishment. Someone said it takes twenty years to become an overnight success, but it only takes seconds to recognize the beginning of one.

~ Let us look forward to the pleasing landscape of the future. ~
