This Tarot Deck: Art Nouveau
Huge wheels and frisky steeds speed the rate at which the driver’s willpower can be realized. This kind of charge makes more of the world accessible to anyone ambitious enough to seize the Chariot’s reins. But there is danger in this feeling of freedom, because of the increased rate of change and its power to magnify mistakes in judgment. As a seasoned warrior, the Charioteer is called upon to be extra attentive to the way ahead.

The Beacon The Beacon symbolizes both guidance to safe harbors and a warning of dangerous waters. The Beacon is represented by a lighthouse atop jagged rocks with its powerful light cutting a path that leads to an adjacent entrance to a calm harbor on a stormy night. The Beacon suggest that if you look for it, there is a general path for you to follow to reach a place of peace and harmony. However, The Beacon itself sets upon rough ground, so you must still step carefully as you follow it to quiet waters. As a daily card, The Beacon provides guidance away from conflict. It implies that the path to resolving differences is marked and visible to any who look for it. The Beacon also warns that while there is a way to quell strife, you still must move carefully towards a solution. |

Modern decks tend to portray the feeling of romantic love with this card, showing Adam and Eve at the gates of Eden when everything was still perfect. This interpretation portrays humanity before the Fall, and can be thought to imply a different sort of choice — the choice of evolution over perfection, or the choice of personal growth through relationship — instead of a fantasy where everything falls into place perfectly and is taken care of without effort.
‘THINK on THESE THINGS’
By Joyce Sequichie Hifler
There are very few days when we have control of our time. No matter what our schedules may be, there is always a change taking place that keeps something from happening when it is supposed to happen. And when the day is ended and our schedules have not been met, then it begins to drag on our spirits.
Soon we become so wound up in the problems of the moment that the delights of our souls drift away and become a part of the mist of “someday.” Someday I will get to do what I want to do. Someday when this necessary work is finished – and it is possible that the things we believe to be so necessary are really robbers of our lives? Do we spend too much time with the menial tasks and allow our creativity – the ability to bring newness into our lives – to dry up and become nonexistent?
William Blake called this within us “God.” One of the greatest poets ever to live, he believed that if we keep alive our ability to see and feel the beauty of life, our menial tasks will become easy and the way successful.
Yesterday is only a dream, tomorrow only a vision, but today – we live. If we live as we should, our yesterdays will be dreams of happiness, and our tomorrow’s will be visions of hope.
Nothing is so sad as the man who spends all his time today judging tomorrow by his experiences of yesterday. He has a vision, but his faith does not support him to pursue it. If some great stroke of good fortune should overtake him, he will be all ready to go, but he doesn’t really expect it to happen. So today he sits waiting for the world to change for him, never guessing that he is the one who must change.
No one is so misled as the woman who has such a busy schedule that she hasn’t time to listen to her children. She expects to take the time to play with them – someday. But it is today that the bridges must be built from the soul to the body to the spirit. It isn’t something built from a quick kiss or a smart smack in the right place, but from daily communion and understanding.
Today is the very life of life when the best things are nearest – breath in our nostrils, light in our eyes, flowers at our feet, duties at our hand, and the path of God before us.

Because monasteries were the only places a person could learn to read and write in the middle ages, a Hierophant was one to whom a student would petition for entry. He was the one to set the curriculum for the neophyte’s course of study.
Often pictured with the right hand raised in blessing, the Hierophant is linked with the ancient lineage of Melchezidek, initiator of the Hebrew priestly tradition, the one who passes on the teachings. All shamans of any tradition draw upon this archetype.

Prayer for the Fourth of July
Gods of liberty, goddesses of justice,
watch over those who would fight for our freedoms.
May freedom be given to all people,
around the world,
no matter what their faith.
Keep our soldiers safe from harm,
and protect them in your light,
so that they may return to their families
and their homes.
Goddesses of liberty, gods of justice,
hear our call, and light the sky,
your torch shining in the night,
that we may find our way back to you,
and bring people together, in unity.

You may feel lucky today and appear capable of turning nearly any situation into a good time. You don’t even have to do anything special; just showing up seems to make others smile. The biggest danger now can come from being overconfident since your positive attitude is not able to cure everything. Acknowledging your limitations upfront can prevent that embarrassing moment when you might have to admit that you’re really human, after all.

You prefer to keep your life simple yet you don’t want to give up on your long-term goals. Unfortunately, you could exhaust yourself attempting to resolve your conflict about which path you should be following. You really don’t like being pulled simultaneously in different directions, because it makes it tough to go along with the flow. Standing back from your dilemma enables you to find a solution.

There is an uneasy dynamic between your anticipation of what’s next and your desire to hold on to the past. You could be moving faster than ever, but still cannot keep up with all the changes in your life. Nonetheless, even if you’re a bit overwhelmed, you might be okay with the uncertainty. Retreating from your hectic schedule is a wise strategy; you’ll be more effective if you wait a few days before pushing your agenda ahead again.

You may be experiencing the proverbial calm before the storm today, yet your fear of what could happen next might be more ominous than anything happening in your immediate future. This weekend can be a turning point, and your recent efforts should finally start to bear fruit. Be practical and prepare for the next round of change that is on the horizon.

Your life becomes more complicated because you’re able to see the truth today, even if someone is trying to hide it from you. Your intuition makes it nearly impossible for you to be involved in superficial interactions now. You’re not interested in what others think of your ideas; they aren’t up for negotiation. But there’s no need to act self-righteously since it’s easier to get along with your friends if you acknowledge that there are many ways to look at a situation.

Acting brilliantly may be a lot simpler than you think today. Even if you can feel the pressure, there’s no need to jump through hoops to demonstrate your reliability. All you’re required to do now is to show up with your common sense intact. Let your intelligence shine through, but don’t try to solve every little problem that pops up.

Although you might not have reached your destination yet, you are, nonetheless, at the end of a road. Your current position is challenging because your sense of falling short may leave you feeling frustrated today. Thankfully, you can ease the tension by simply shifting your perspective. The emotional landscape has already started to change, yet there will be plenty of time to reach your goals once the path in front of you clears again.

You have run out of patience when it comes to anything that isn’t already on your radar today. However, you still might become distracted if something interesting catches your eye. You could be annoyed with yourself if you succumb to following your whim instead of your schedule. Paradoxically, if you keep yourself on track, you still might wonder what you missed. In the long run, it’s more important to keep moving forward than wasting time worrying about which route to choose.

The fiery Leo Moon increases your vitality today, but having more stamina doesn’t mean that you’re invincible. Although you might believe that you have an inexhaustible energy supply, it’s not smart to take on more than you should. Unfortunately, looking to others won’t produce the clarity you seek; you’ll have to make decisions about what you can and cannot do on your own. If you overextend now, you’ll likely run into problems next week. Save your strength for next week when you will need it.

Today you may be expected to manage a complex issue that involves a financial transaction, or you might just be feeling pressure from the lack of clarity in a business relationship. Either way, resolution will probably be delayed because you need more information. Nevertheless, you are enticed to make a decision before your time runs out. Don’t make an impulsive choice just because everyone thinks you should have already made up your mind. Wait until next week when you have more data at your disposal.

A friend expresses feelings that catch you off guard, complicating your relationship more than you want. You prefer keeping everything casual and on a rational basis because the energy is simpler to handle. But you can’t go back to the way things were unless you take a path of denial. Unfortunately, avoiding issues only makes them more difficult to handle. You can try downplaying the drama, but actively engaging in a constructive dialogue should help to reduce the complexity.

It’s challenging to distinguish the separate threads of truth now, for they have already been woven with a believable blend of fact and fiction. This complex tapestry entangles your imagination if you overanalyze the situation. Be careful, for your false sense of accuracy can trick you into making a decision based on an incorrect assumption. Instead of forcing the issue, just appreciate the moment. It should be easier to sort yourself out in a few days.

General Meaning: One hears thunder unexpectedly! First comes fear, then a sharpening of one’s vision. Recall a close brush with danger — a falling branch, an automobile accident barely avoided, an escape from a potentially violent confrontation. Such incidents arouse every nerve fiber in your body in a brief wave of terror, but soon, once the danger has passed, give way to a heightened awareness of the world. The same process also occurs with other types of shock — the loss of a job, the sudden departure of a loved one, business failure and so on.
The lasting impact of a major shock can either be stimulating or debilitating, depending upon one’s strength of character. The critical factor is the ability to shake off fear, thereby transforming anxiety into a laser-sharp perception of the world around you.
When overtaken by crisis, the wise search their hearts for inner strengths in order to face their life with courage. This often means daring to take an unexpected path — to bounce back quickly and self-confidently after failures, to have faith in the eternal when confronted with death.
We tend to think of shock only in the context of unpleasant events. We can also be jarred, however, by the sudden release of tension that comes with unexpected joy or success. To keep your bearings in the aftershock of either trauma or victory, it is essential that your inner compass be aligned with ‘true north’, that magnetic force which guides you toward fulfillment of both your deepest desire, and your highest destiny.

At the birth of Tarot, even a gifted healer who was not an ordained clergyman was considered to be in league with the Devil! For obvious reasons, the line between fooling the eye with sleight of hand, and charging the world with magical will was not clearly differentiated in the early Tarot cards.
Waite’s image of the Magus as the solitary ritualist communing with the spirits of the elements — with its formal arrangement of symbols and postures — is a token of the freedom we have in modern times to declare our spiritual politics without fear of reprisal. The older cards were never so explicit about what the Magus was doing. It’s best to keep your imagination open with this card. Visualize yourself manifesting something unique, guided by evolutionary forces that emerge spontaneously from within your soul.
Adapted from Witch in the Kitchen, by Cait Johnson.Good will is certainly a concept to ponder. How many of us can truly say we have it?
Now, as warm colors and blazing vitality evoke the power of the will, we can align ourselves with our deepest, best selves with this simple, ancient ritual. After all, summer invites us to think of ways we can harness our immense fiery will in order to give something unique and meaningful to the world, knowing that when we do the things we most love to do we nourish ourselves and others, for the good of all.
This just takes a sunny day and a little birdseed. And it is such a joyful way to celebrate the sun and our own capacity for a truly good will:
Go to a place where wild birds are known to congregate (if you’re a city-dweller, pigeons will do just fine). Stand facing the sun. Close your eyes and imagine that the golden sunlight is streaming into your solar plexus, your will center. Now visualize that you are beaming that golden light back to the sun as you say:
I will to will Thy will.
Now, carefully sprinkle the birdseed around yourself in as perfect a circle as you can, and say:
May my will grow lighter, to feed the world. Now it is done.
Step outside the circle and find a place to sit quietly and observe. Watch as the birds discover and feed themselves with your gift. As each bird takes flight after its meal, visualize your will center growing more light and generous and warm.

The angel announced to Daniel the prophecy of the seventy weeks. His name also occurs in the apocryphal book of Henoch. He was the angel who appeared to Zachariah to announce the birth of St. John the Baptizer. Finally, he announced to Mary that she would bear a Son Who would be conceived of the Holy Spirit, Son of the Most High, and Saviour of the world. The feast day is September 29th. St. Gabriel is the patron of communications workers.
Deity of the Day
Arawn
Welsh god of the underworld. Legend has it that the god Amaethon stole from him a dog, a lapwing and a roebuck, which led to the Battle of the Trees in which his forces were defeated. Another legend relates that Arawn persuaded the god Pwyll, to trade places with him for a year and a day. During which time Pwyll defeated Arawn’s rival, the god Hafgan for dominance of the underworld. Because Pwyll refrained for sleeping with Arawn’s wife during this time, the two became great friends. Arawn then bestowed on Pwyll the title “Lord of the Otherworld”.

The question is can you free your mind from your everyday routines to take advantage of this powerful moment in your life? As Eric Fromm said, “Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties.” The full force of Creation can only be realized by those who are prepared to sacrifice the comfort concomitant with sticking to the tried and true. As a daily card, Creation indicates your are currently bursting with creativity. Where others see chaos and waste, you see the stuff from which great things arise.
