The Sky in 2021

Explanation: What if you could see the entire sky — all at once — for an entire year? That, very nearly, is what is pictured here. Every 15 minutes during 2021, an all-sky camera took an image of the sky over the Netherlands. Central columns from these images were then aligned and combined to create the featured keogram, with January at the top, December at the bottom, and the middle of the night running vertically just left of center. What do we see? Most obviously, the daytime sky is mostly blue, while the nighttime sky is mostly black. The twelve light bands crossing the night sky are caused by the glow of the Moon. The thinnest part of the black hourglass shape occurs during the summer solstice when days are the longest, while the thickest part occurs at the winter solstice. Yesterday was an equinox — when night and day were equal — and the northern-spring equinox from one year ago can actually be located in the keogram — about three-quarters of the way up.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

It’s that time again when the Sun is in your sign for four weeks, which is your best chance to rejuvenate yourself and recharge your batteries for the rest of the year. Naturally, your focus of attention will be more personal and on yourself, and that’s exactly as it should be. You will project yourself with more forcefulness than usual, which is why this is a great time to make a strong impression on others. Because you are personally empowered, it’s best to work alone or run the show. (You’ll be less of a team player in the next few weeks.) Expect some challenges dealing with friends or groups, perhaps about money or possessions. Someone might try to thwart your goals. (Big mistake!)

You’re heading into a lovely four-week window that will increase your popularity and heighten your interest in groups, clubs and organizations. Cancer (June 21-July 22)

For the next four weeks, the Sun will travel across the top of your chart. (This is the only time all year this happens.) Grab every chance to travel or change your surroundings so that you feel invigorated by something new and fresh. Even the most trivial encounter might be stimulating. Basically, the theme for this month ahead is that you want to break free from your usual routine and go somewhere where you can learn something new. For some of you, you might be more involved with the law or legal matters. Others will be excited to explore metaphysical, philosophical and new belief systems that are either modern or ancient.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

For the next four weeks, the Sun will be opposite your sign. In your chart, this means the Sun will be as far away from you as it can get all year. Because the Sun is your source of energy, this means that you will feel more tired than usual. Ergo, get more sleep. Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Oh joy! The next four weeks will bring you happy times because the Sun will be travelling through one of the most fun parts of your chart. (Yay me!) You will want to get out and have a good time. You’ll feel lighter, happier and eager to explore amusing diversions. This is a great window to enjoy a vacation, as well as fun outings. You might be more involved than usual with children. Certainly, your attitude toward your relationships will be lighter and for some, new romance will begin. Nevertheless, conflict with siblings or neighbours might occur this week, especially Tuesday. Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

A Picturesque Equinox Sunset

Explanation: What’s that at the end of the road? The Sun. Many towns have roads that run east – west, and on two days each year, the Sun rises and sets right down the middle. Today is one of those days: an equinox. Not only is today a day of equal night (“aequus”-“nox”) and day time, but also a day when the sun rises precisely to the east and sets due west. Featured here is a picturesque road in northwest Illinois, USA that runs approximately east -west. The image was taken during the March Equinox of 2015, and shows the Sun down the road at sunset. In many cultures, this March equinox is taken to be the first day of a season, typically spring in Earth’s northern hemisphere, and autumn in the south. Does your favorite street run east – west? Tonight, at sunset, you can find out with a quick glance.

Explanation: 2MASS J17554042+6551277 doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue but that’s the name, a coordinate-based catalog designation, of the star centered in this sharp field of view. Fans of the distant universe should get used to its spiky appearance though. The diffraction pattern is created by the 18 hexagonal mirror segments of the James Webb Space Telescope. After unfolding, the segments have now been adjusted to achieve a diffraction limited alignment at infrared wavelengths while operating in concert as a single 6.5 meter diameter primary mirror. The resulting image taken by Webb’s NIRcam demonstrates their precise alignment is the best physics will allow. 2MASS J17554042+6551277 is about 2,000 light-years away and well within our own galaxy. But the galaxies scattered across the background of the Webb telescope alignment evaluation image are likely billions of light-years distant, far beyond the Milky Way.

A Filament in Monoceros

Explanation: Bluish reflection nebulae seem to fill this dusty expanse. The sharp telescopic frame spans over 1 degree on the sky toward the faint but fanciful constellation Monoceros, the Unicorn. Seen within the Monoceros R1 cloud complex some 2,500 light-years away, bluish IC 447 is on the left, joined by a long dark filament of dust to IC 446 at lower right. Embedded in IC 447 are young, massive blue stars much hotter than the Sun, whose light is reflected by the cosmic cloud of star stuff. Observations reveal that IC 446 also contains a young stellar object, a massive star still in an early stage of evolution. The dark filament of dust and molecular gas joining the two star-forming regions is over 15 light-years long.

Centaurus A

Explanation: A mere 11 million light-years away, Centaurus A is the closest active galaxy to planet Earth. Spanning over 60,000 light-years, the peculiar elliptical galaxy also known as NGC 5128, is featured in this sharp telescopic view. Centaurus A is apparently the result of a collision of two otherwise normal galaxies resulting in a fantastic jumble of star clusters and imposing dark dust lanes. Near the galaxy’s center, leftover cosmic debris is steadily being consumed by a central black hole with a billion times the mass of the Sun. As in other active galaxies, that process likely generates the enormous radio, X-ray, and gamma-ray energy radiated by Centaurus A.

The Observable Universe

Explanation: How far can you see? Everything you can see, and everything you could possibly see, right now, assuming your eyes could detect all types of radiations around you — is the observable universe. In light, the farthest we can see comes from the cosmic microwave background, a time 13.8 billion years ago when the universe was opaque like thick fog. Some neutrinos and gravitational waves that surround us come from even farther out, but humanity does not yet have the technology to detect them. The featured image illustrates the observable universe on an increasingly compact scale, with the Earth and Sun at the center surrounded by our Solar System, nearby stars, nearby galaxies, distant galaxies, filaments of early matter, and the cosmic microwave background. Cosmologists typically assume that our observable universe is just the nearby part of a greater entity known as “the universe” where the same physics applies. However, there are several lines of popular but speculative reasoning that assert that even our universe is part of a greater multiverse where either different physical constants occur, different physical laws apply, higher dimensions operate, or slightly different-by-chance versions of our standard universe exist.

A Road to the Stars

A stunning night view, taken close to the 1.54m Danish Telescope and the 3.6m telescope on the road at La Silla, shows the Milky Way above the horizon, accompanied by the Magellanic Clouds. ESO’s 3.6m Telescope, seen here atop a hill at the centre of the image, is home to HARPS, an instrument dedicated to the discovery of planets outside the Solar System via the radial velocity method. This method enables the detection of a planet by measuring the wobbling motion of the central star caused by the gravitational pull of the planet itself.  The towers on the left are the support structures of the BlackGEM telescopes, which had not been installed yet when this image was taken. BlackGEM is an array of telescopes that will search for the light emitted by the optical counterparts of the most powerful gravitational-wave sources, namely colliding neutron stars and black holes.  On the right of the image, we see the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, two irregular dwarf galaxies orbiting the Milky Way at a distance of approximately 160 000 and 200 000 light-years, respectively. In the Mapuche culture of south-central Chile, these neighbouring galaxies were known as lafken, labken or künchalabken (“the lagoons”) as well as rünanko (“the water wells”). [1] The red filamentary emission stretching across the sky in the horizon is called airglow, which is light naturally emitted by atoms and molecules in the atmosphere through various physical and chemical processes. Explanation: Pictured — a very scenic road to the stars. The road approaches La Silla Observatory in Chile, with the ESO‘s 3.6-meter telescope just up ahead. To the left are some futuristic-looking support structures for the planned BlackGEM telescopes, an array of optical telescopes that will help locate optical counterparts to gravitational waves detections by LIGO and other detectors. But there is much more. Red airglow illuminates the night sky on the right, while the central band of our Milky Way Galaxy slants across the image center. Jupiter can be seen just above the band near the image center, while Saturn is visible just above the 3.6-meter telescope dome. The two largest satellite galaxies of our Milky Way Galaxy, the LMC and SMC, are seen on the far right. The featured image panorama was built up from multiple 15-second exposures that were captured on 2019 June 30. Two days later, La Silla experienced a rare total eclipse of the Sun.

Star Formation in the Eagle Nebula

Explanation: Where do stars form? One place, star forming regions known as “EGGs”, are being uncovered at the end of this giant pillar of gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula (M16). Short for evaporating gaseous globules, EGGs are dense regions of mostly molecular hydrogen gas that fragment and gravitationally collapse to form stars. Light from the hottest and brightest of these new stars heats the end of the pillar and causes further evaporation of gas and dust — revealing yet more EGGs and more young stars. This featured picture was created from exposures spanning over 30 hours with the Earth-orbiting Hubble Space Telescope in 2014, and digitally processed with modern software by experienced volunteers in Argentina. Newborn stars will gradually destroy their birth pillars over the next 100,000 years or so — if a supernova doesn’t destroy them first.

Moonstone Travel Spell

This spell will call on Meness, the patron moon god of travelers.

Find a spot that faces east or that is illuminated by moonlight. Or try setting this up under the moon, in the garden, or on the porch or your outside deck. Get some atmosphere sphere going! Try using a scented candle, such as jasmine or gardenia, to coordinate the fragrance with the moon’s energies.

Gather the following items:
• A photo of your destination, your travel itinerary, or your airline tickets
• 4 small tumbled moonstones
• A scented white votive candle and holder
• A lighter or matches

Set up this spell on a safe, flat surface. Light the candle and place it in the holder. Place your paperwork/tickets or itinerary to one side of the candle. Arrange the four stones in a circle around the holder. Place your hands on the travel paperwork, and ground and center. Then repeat the following spell three times:

Meness, patron of travelers, watch over me
Whether I travel in the air, on the land or sea
Like a talisman in my pocket a stone will I tuck
Moonstones do encourage a safe journey and bring good luck.

Take one of the stones and keep it in your pocket while you travel. You may close the spell by saying:

Gather up your papers and tuck them away for your trip. Allow the candle to burn out on its own. If you performed this outside, then move your candle and the remaining stones indoors to let the candle safely finish burning. Never leave your candles unattended.

Developing your Spiritual Abilities? What are the “Clairs”?

When a person begins to awaken to their true self and divine potential, spiritual or psychic gifts will begin to emerge and develop.

Here is some information about the different kinds of ‘Clairs’ that describe some of these abilities and a few tips to help you practice.

‘Clair’ is from the French language and means ‘clear’. There are a number of ‘Clairs’ that we all have the ability to use.

Clairvoyance

The term we all recognise the most is clairvoyance. ‘Voyance’ means ‘vision’, so clairvoyance means clear vision.

A psychic vision is a term used to describe the way that those who are clairvoyant receive messages from Spirit. It usually begins with very short periods of ‘seeing’ things.

It is possible you may be able to see a ‘picture’ and the more you develop this gift the more detailed the vision will be and the length of time you will ‘see’ it will also increase.

Clairaudience

Clairaudience means clear hearing.

Clairaudience may start when you are very young or during meditation. You may hear a voice speaking to you, or you may hear other sounds, such as music. Spirit plays me songs all the time!

This week has challenges that will affect people’s emotions. Unfortunately, it will be easy to express displeasure and overreact to things. (“Not me!”) It will also be harder to be independent and do your own thing. In addition, as the week progresses, energy will build up to the Full Moon on Friday, which happily, will be an easier Full Moon because it is the opposition of Moon in Virgo with the Sun in Pisces. (Some Full Moons are easier than others.) Without question, my advice for the week is to “go along to get along.” Patience is a virtue. Therefore, tread carefully. Be patient. Be kind. Be tolerant. And remember that what the big print giveth, the small print taketh away.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This will be a challenging week because you might feel a bit powerless. (It will be two steps forward and one step back kinda thing, which is better than one step forward and two steps back.) It’s an axiomatic truth that there is always better and there’s always worse. Fortunately, friends will be supportive to you this week. However, you might feel competitive with someone, either an individual or a group. By the end of the week, the Full Moon on Friday might create angst dealing with pets, your health or your coworkers. But hey, the light at the end of the tunnel is on Sunday when the Sun enters Aries to stay for four weeks. Yeehaw!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This is a popular time for you! You are active with groups as well as younger people. Your ambition is aroused and bosses, parents and VIPs are favourably disposed to you. Having said that, you will encounter some speed bumps dealing with everyone this week. Romance will be rocky. Relations with your kids might be challenged, especially Thursday and Friday. Even though authority figures have your back, they will want you to ask for permission or forgiveness. (Oh yeah. There’s no free lunch.) Gemini (May 21-June 20)

As it will be for everyone, this is a challenging week for you, too. Fortunately, you have the edge because the Sun is at the top of your chart casting you in a flattering spotlight. (It’s important to look good at a distance.) Avoid controversial subjects like politics, religion and racial issues because this is just asking for trouble. Why even go there? (Don’t get even – get odd.) As the week progresses, you will feel pulled between the demands of home and family and the demands of your career and your external world. That’s because of the Full Moon energy. With this particular Full Moon, you can’t ignore your public persona. Smile for the camera.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

You will find this week challenging because you’re in a freedom-loving mode. You want to travel. You want to do what you want to do. You want to go places! You also want to explore new avenues in publishing, higher education and the media as well as medicine and the law. The problem is you will meet with obstacles and delays in your attempts to pursue these opportunities. In fact, by Thurs./Fri., at the time of the Full Moon, it’s an accident-prone time for you, which means slow down and pay attention to everything you say and do. Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

This week you have a strong focus on money, cash flow and especially, your responsibilities for someone else that affect your financial scene. You are also gathering papers and getting ready to deal with taxes, debt and insurance issues. (This stuff doesn’t go away on its own.) Fortunately, you are royalty. You are strong and indomitable, which means you can deal with whatever is in your path. One step at a time. (Ignore that ominous sonar beep.) It’s important to be calm and patient with others because Mars is opposite your sign and this can trigger relationships glitches with those who are closest to you. Fortunately, Venus is also opposite your sign, which will help ameliorate difficulties. Make nice with everyone.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Whoa Nellie! You’re in work mode, which means you will get a lot done and others will be supportive. This applies to your job, your dealings with a pet, as well as anything related to your health. (It’s fortunate that you have the energy to work; and that others will be helpful to you.) However, be aware that this week, your challenge will be with close friends, spouses and partners. Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

This week you’re full of playful, fun-loving energy, and your creative juices are flowing! This will trigger social situations, sports events and activities with your kids. Meanwhile, you’ve got increased chaos and activity on the home front. So, the bases are loaded. Get as much done as possible at home; and be patient with family members. Redecorating and tweaking your digs will appeal. (When you decide to get stuff done – you’re a machine!) You might find that as the week progresses, and the Full Moon on Friday approaches, difficulties with kids and romantic partners will intensify. Fortunately, after the Full Moon peaks, these same problems will diminish and sometimes they even disappear!

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Your energy is strong with respect to home, family and your private life this week. Nevertheless, you’re out there flying your colours and you’re direct in your communications with others. Fortunately, fair Venus will soften your words. Venus will also help you appreciate your daily surroundings, which is important (and a value that many people underestimate). Despite this focus on your private world, ironically, you are high viz., which means people notice you more than usual, plus they seem to know about your private life. Expect to feel pulled between the demands of home and family versus the demands of your career and public reputation. You will definitely feel this by Friday. Stay chill. You cannot ignore home and family.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This is a fast-paced week and a squirrely one! You’ve got things to do, places to go and people to see. Short trips, appointments, errands plus increased reading and writing are some reasons you are hopping! You also have a strong focus on finances and earnings. Meanwhile, many of you are spending money on beautiful things for yourself and loved ones. Be careful this week because it is a mildly accident-prone time for you. This week there’s good news and there’s bad news. Merry meet kindred souls, welcome! If you have tripped across this blog, know that it is not by chance. I believe, nothing happens by chance. Everything has a divine purpose. There are no coincidences in life, only synchronicity ‘s attempting to take us where we need to be on our journey.
It has been far too long since I have shared my story with y’all. For it has been quite the challenge I must say, body, mind, and spirit! But I am still above ground so I SHALL continue on my journey.
As we all know, being ill can be extraordinarily difficult. With the pandemic that large I’m sure all of us have experienced a form or two of difficulty. It certainly hasn’t been fun! With multiple sclerosis and THEN contracting the latest form of Covid I thought I would be pushing Up daisies. But instead, I am here to share with you something I learned. Something I’m sure some of you may already know. When you feel like you cannot endure much more pain, know that this pain is going to be part of your product! Because when Life knocks you down & the messenger of misery comes for you, what are you going to do?” What is it going to take to get you back up on your feet again?! I have learned when you overcome life’s biggest trials, you will look back & discover they were not a curse but a blessing in disguise. If it wasn’t for them, we would not grow. These challenges offer us the chance for personal spiritual and physical growth as human beings.
Oh, & yep, you’re stuck with me, lol!! I hear lesson nine calling my name.
So my friends, if you are like me and have seemed to take in the advanced course in life, hold your ground! One of my favorite sayings,” Tough times never last, but as tough people do. “
And speaking of courses I want to say a public THANK YOU to Lady Beltane. I appreciate all of your compassion, and patience as I battle my physical issues. I sure am thankful for every bit of it! That’s from the bottom of my heart! I don’t know how many others would’ve been as patient.

Colorful Airglow Bands Surround Milky Way

Explanation: Why would the sky glow like a giant repeating rainbow? Airglow. Now air glows all of the time, but it is usually hard to see. A disturbance however — like an approaching storm — may cause noticeable rippling in the Earth’s atmosphere. These gravity waves are oscillations in air analogous to those created when a rock is thrown in calm water. Red airglow likely originates from OH molecules about 87-kilometers high, excited by ultraviolet light from the Sun, while orange and green airglow is likely caused by sodium and oxygen atoms slightly higher up. While driving near Keluke Lake in Qinghai Provence in China a few years ago, the photographer originally noticed mainly the impressive central band of the Milky Way Galaxy. Stopping to photograph it, surprisingly, the resulting sensitive camera image showed airglow bands to be quite prominent and span the entire sky. The featured image has been digitally enhanced to make the colors more vibrant.
