The Witches Magick for March 14th –  Healing Herbal Balm

Herbs You Will Need:

Calendula (Calendula officinalis)

Plantain (Plantago major)

This sweet-smelling balm soothes and protects cuts and scrapes. And it’s so gentle you can even use it on diaper rash. Calendula and plantain are known for their ability to speed skin healing. Both soften skin, relieve pain, and are antibacterial.

How to make it: This is a two-step process.

First, you’ll make an herb-infused oil:

In a large glass jar, combine 2 tablespoon each of crushed Calendula flowers and dried plantain leaves with 1/3 c of extra-virgin olive oil. Leave uncovered, and place in a pan filled with enough water to cover the lower half of the jar. Set the burner on very low heat and simmer gently for about 4 hours. Check the oil periodically to be sure it’s not scorching; don’t let it boil.
(You can also make the infused oil in a Crock-Pot set on very low without a lid.)

After the allotted time, remove the oil from the heat and allow it to cool completely. Strain away the herbs through several layers of cheesecloth and discard.

To make the balm, combine the infused oil with 1 or 2 tablespoon of grated beeswax and put it into a small stainless steel bowl; set the bowl into a pot of water and heat just until the beeswax melts, stirring gently to help the melting

To test the consistency, insert a cool metal spoon into the balm and check the balm that sticks to the spoon; it should be spreadable but firm. If it’s too oily, add another few shavings of beeswax.

At this point, you can add a natural preservative to your balm to prevent spoilage. Vitamin E, squeezed from capsules, works very well. Rosemary extracts or oil might improve the aroma and antiseptic properties as well.

You’ll need about 1/4 tsp. (two capsules) to preserve this much balm. After you’ve blended in the vitamin E, transfer your final product to a sterile glass jar. Use a clean spoon or small spatula to transfer the balm to avoid introducing bacteria to the jar.

How to use it: Apply the balm to rashes, scrapes, and other small or superficial abrasions

Witch’s Ointment, Nontoxic

3 parts Vervain
3 parts Sandalwood
2 parts Cinnamon
1 part Carnation petals
Make in the usual way with shortening. Store in a container marked with a pentagram (five-pointed star,  one point facing up). Anoint the body prior to Wiccan rituals to become one with the Goddess and God and that which lies beyond them.

The Sniffles Ointment

The Sniffles Ointment

If the sniffles and chest congestion have you down, rub some of this ointment on your chest and under your nose.

1/2 oz. Eucalyptus Oil

1/2 oz. Rosemary Oil

1/2 oz. Peppermint Oil

2 oz Hard Paraffin Wax

2 oz Soft Paraffin Wax


Melt together and stir while it’s cooling. Store in an airtight container away from heat.

Passion Oil

Passion Oil

Try you hand at this oil for attracting a sexual partner and engaging in an erotic and sensual time!
Take an 1/8 cup of a base oil (almond or olive works great) and blend with it equal parts of: patchouli, jasmine, cardamon, vanilla, ginger and ylang ylang (use at least 3 drops of each) into a small ceramic or glass bowl.


When you add each essential oil to the mix, blend it by moving the bowl and swirling the oil in a clockwise and/or counterclockwise motion.


Apply the oil externally to your genitals, chest, neck and wrists. Store what you do not use in an airtight container and place out of the reach of sunlight (not in the bathroom).

Instructions:

– Steep a handful of mallow leaves & stems into a 1/4 cup of vegetable shortening

– Leave it steep overnight

– Strain and place in container

– Rub ointment into skin

– Reapply as needed

Making Ointments

Making Ointments

Ointments are easily made. They consist simply of herbs or oils and a base. In the past, hog’s lard was the preferred base because it was readily available, but vegetable shortening or beeswax produces the best results. The base must be a greasy substance that melts over heat but is solid at room temperature. Some herbalists actually use dinosaur fat (i.e., Vaseline, which is prepared from petroleum)!
There are two basic ways to create magickal ointments, the shortening method and the beeswax method.
The Shortening Method

Gently heat four parts shortening over low heat until liquefied. Watch that it doesn’t burn. Add one part dried herbal mixture, blend with a wooden spoon until thoroughly mixed, and continue heating until the          shortening has extracted the scent. You should be able to smell it in the air.
Strain through cheesecloth into a heat-proof container, such as a canning jar. Add one-half teaspoon tincture of benzoin to each pint of ointment as a natural preservative. Store in a cool, dark place, such as the refrigerator. Ointments should last for weeks or months. Discard any that turn moldy, and lay in a fresh batch.
The Beeswax Method
This process creates a more cosmetic ointment without a heavy, greasy feeling. It is best to prepare it with oils rather than herbs, as it is difficult to strain.
If possible, use unbleached beeswax. If not, use what you can find. Chip it with alarge, sharp knife so that you can pack it into a measuring cup. Place one-fourth cup or so of beeswax in the top of a double boiler(such as a coffee can set into a larger pot of water). Add about one-fourth cup olive, hazelnut, sesame or some other vegetable oil. Stir with a wooden spoon until the wax has melted into the oil.
Remove from the heat and let cool very slightly, until it has just begun to thicken. (This step is taken so that the hot wax won’t evaporate the oils.) Now add the mixed oils to the wax. Stir thoroughly with a wooden spoon and pour into a heat-proof container. Label and store in the usual way.

Use this oil to induce insightful and blessed dreams.

To make this ritual oil you will need a small cup, two teaspoons of olive oil, lavender oil, clary  sage oil, and vanilla oil.

Make this mixture just before you go to sleep. Begin by putting two teaspoons of olive oil in a  small cup. As you add four drops of lavender oil, say:

Wolf Moon oil bless me with power and insight.

Next, add two drops of clary sage oil while saying:

Divine dream oil empower me with blessed dreams.

Now, add two drops of vanilla oil, and say:

Divine dream oil empower me with sweet dreams.

Conclude by mixing the oil with the fingers of your power hand (right hand if you are right-handed)  and chant several times:

Divine dream oil empower me with blessed dreams.

Rub the oil into the front and back of your neck, and into your wrists and ankles. As you rub the  oil into your skin, chant:

Divine dream oil empower me with blessed dreams.

While drifting to sleep, repeat to yourself:

Sweet dreams, blessed be!

When you awaken, write down everything you recall from your dreams in your  journal.

Lovers’ Ritual Oil

Use this oil to bring the perfect love of the Goddess and perfect peace of the God into your circle. Use this oil liberally and become the God and Goddess for a little while.

You will need your lover, nine teaspoons of olive oil, six drops of lavender essential oil, one drop of sandalwood-scented oil, one drop of rosemary essential oil, and one drop of jasmine-scented oil.

After dark, mix all of the ingredients together in a bottle or jar with a top that seals it. As you shake the bottle, repeat this blessing:

Bright lord, handsome God

Please bless this oil with your perfect peace.

Rub some of the oil on your partner, and your lover in turn can rub some of the oil on your body. Take a deep breath and sense the aroma of oil mixed with your lover’s natural scent entering your nostrils and filling your entire being with a divine passion. Enjoy the night together, and focus your love energy on a magickal goal that you both care deeply about.

You will need one ounce of apricot oil, three drops of jasmine-scented oil, three drops of sandalwood-scented oil, and three drops of ylang ylang scented oil.

In the morning, leave a love note where your lover will find it. Make it personal. Tell him or her how much he or she means to you. For example, write:

My Sweet Love, all that I am, all that I see, all that I feel, all that I dream and do are brighter, more beautiful and more meaningful, because I am so delightfully in love with you.

Next during the day, make a phone call to your love and tell him or her that you will have nothing on but his or her favorite CD after dark tonight. Your lover will be thinking abut you all day.

After dark, mix the oils together, go sky clad and anoint yourself with the mixture. When your lover arrives take off his or her clothes, anoint him or her with the oil, and show him or her how strong and creative your love can really be! Apply plenty of the oil mixture to your lover’s back, and take several minutes to give your love a relaxing and sensuous shoulder and back massage. Allow him or her to reciprocate. Make love and remember to focus on your magickal goal or symbol as you climax.

Insect Bite Oil

I don’t know if you have the same problem that we do. You can’t sit out at night without the bugs trying to carry you off.  Then while you are swaying at this one, there is another one biting the crap out of you. Then you scratch yourself to death the rest of the night. This oil recipe below is simple but it good. It takes the itch right out of those bites.

INSECT BITE OIL

1 tsp Lavender Essential Oil
1 Tbsp Vegetable Oil

Combine essential oil and vegetable oil and dab mixture directly on bite as
needed. Store in a bottle with a tight lid.
