Moon Alert
Avoid shopping or important decisions after 7 PM EST today (4 PM PST). The Moon is in Gemini.
Aries (March 21-April 19)
This is an excellent day to work with others – especially friends or groups. In particular, you will make good headway discussing long-range plans or future goals. You’re not afraid to think big today; and yet, you won’t overlook details. (Unusual combination.) A productive day, indeed!
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Business and commerce are favoured today. For starters, you might get some behind-the-scenes help from someone. (Bonus!) Certainly, people admire you right now. Meanwhile, you are personally prepared to talk to someone in authority to get approval for what you want to do. Do it!
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
It’s a wonderful day to make long-range travel plans or explore prospects about publishing, higher education, medicine and the law. Grab every opportunity to learn something new. You’ll enjoy dealing with people from other cultures because they might teach you something. (You love to learn.)
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Financial arrangements and negotiations will go well for you today because you can attract money to you. (Yes!) This is an excellent day to ask for a loan, a mortgage or to do fundraising. You might work from behind the scenes, nevertheless – you’ll get results!
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
This is a marvellous day to schmooze with partners, close friends and members of the general public. You can accomplish a lot now because you’re keen to work. You can especially wrap up old business. On top of this, others will cooperate because you’re so charming.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
Whatever you want to do today, be aware of the fact that you can get more done by cooperating with others. This is an excellent day for meetings, conferences and working with groups or units. You might also get the practical and financial support you need from someone as well.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
A playful day! Enjoy sports events, social outings, the entertainment world and fun activities with kids. This is also a good time to make long-range plans for the future travel or higher education. Publishing discussions will go well along with proposals about legal or medical matters.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
This is the perfect day to entertain. “Hail fellow, well met!” Stock the fridge and invite the gang over. In addition, you might set some time aside today to plow through paperwork because your mind can handle a lot of details. It will feel good to tie up loose ends about shared property, inheritances and banking matters.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
You feel sociable today, which is why you will enjoy contact with siblings, relatives and neighbours. You will love learning new things. Study will be easy. In fact, you’re so optimistic, as you look around you, you’ll appreciate your daily surroundings more. This is a feel-good day!
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
Business and commerce are favoured today. Value your moneymaking ideas. Go after moneymaking plans because they will succeed, especially if they involve foreign countries or dealing with people from other cultures. You’ve got the smarts, the patience and the know-how.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
Today you’re content and at peace with the world, which is why you feel benevolent to others. This generous feeling might even influence financial enterprises. In fact, legal matters and anything to do with investments, medicine or the law will go well!
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
You might meet a new friend today. (For some of you, this friend could become a lover – a secret romance.) Meanwhile, a private discussion could bring about some practical improvements to your home or a family member. Everything to do with your wealth and your assets is favoured today. Ka-ching!
If Your Birthday Is Today
Actress Julia Ormond (1965) shares your birthday today. You are fun-loving, aware and sensitive to everything around you. You have a quirky charm and are a great team player. This is a wonderful year to socialize and enjoy life! Let your guard down and loosen up a bit! Welcome old friends back into your world.

Moon Alert

There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The Moon is in Gemini.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Today you are upbeat and energetic, especially mentally. (Clever you.) You’re full of ideas and you want others to listen to them. However, you might come on a bit strong. Nevertheless, your take on things will be positive and enthusiastic, especially about travel, social media and education.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

You will work hard to boost your earnings today because this is important to you. (Today you’re keeping score.) Your wealth or earnings seem to be a measure of your work. Something going on behind the scenes, possibly assistance from a group, might help you.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Today the Moon is in your sign lined up with fiery Mars, which makes you fast talking, fast acting, and slightly irritable with anyone who isn’t moving as fast as you can. Hey, cut people some slack. Actually, this is an excellent day to interact with groups, conferences and organizations.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

You feel agitated about something going on behind the scenes today. This is why you might be impatient with others. I once heard a wise teacher say, “Negativity is wanting things to be different from the way they are.” Why not trying to switch gears? Appreciate what works.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

You’re effective (and possibly, a bit bossy) dealing with groups of people today, or interacting with a friend. Quite likely, you are carried away with your own enthusiasm about something because you want others to climb on board. You’re thinking big! (This might involve the media or travel.)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

People notice you today, because you’re pumped and raring to go! Actually, your strong ambitious energy might be a tad aggressive when viewed by a boss or someone in authority. (Might they feel threatened?) Keep this in mind. Nevertheless, today you can effectively influence groups. Use this wisely.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You have a strong urge to travel or do something different today because you’re hungry for a change of scenery. You’re restless. You need the thrill of doing something exciting. You want adventure! (“Shall we dance?”) Guard against being so impulsive that you might have later regrets. Oops.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

You are prepared to fight for your rights today, especially in discussions about shared property, inheritances, taxes, debt or insurance issues. (All that red-tape stuff.) You feel strongly about getting your fair share of something, which is why you’re ready to speak up. Oh yeah.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Be patient with close friends and partners today because you might meet someone who is aggressive. If you’re lucky, they’re just enthusiastic. If you’re not so lucky, they’re definitely in your face. Take a breath and scope out the situation until you know what’s going on. Get the full picture.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You’re keen to work today! In fact, you might feel driven. It’s important to know that you will probably accomplish more by cooperating with others and engineering a group effort. “More hands make light work.”

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This is a playful, romantic, passionate day! That’s why you will go out of your way to have fun. It’s also a strong day for sports and competitive athletics because you want to win. (You certainly don’t want to lose.) Enlist the help of others, if you can.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

You want to do things a certain way today, especially at home or with your family. This is why you might be coming on a bit strong. Let’s face it, you’ve got an agenda, and you want the cooperation of others to meet your requirements and wishes. Good luck!

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actor John Thaw (1942-2002) shares your birthday today. You are passionate about everything you do, sometimes even reckless and impulsive. (But you take responsibility for your actions.) You are determined and not daunted by challenges. This year is slower paced that time to rejuvenate yourself. Concentrate on your post relationships and your needs and what brings you happiness.

From MoonGiant.com

The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a Waxing Gibbous phase. Visible through most of the night sky setting a few hours before sunrise. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. The phase lasts about 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous the moon rises in the east in mid-afternoon and is high in the eastern sky at sunset. The word Gibbous first appeared in the 14th century and has its roots in the Latin word “gibbosus” meaning humpbacked.

Visit the January 2023 Moon Phases Calendar to see all the daily moon phase for this month.

Today’s Waxing Gibbous Phase

The Waxing Gibbous on January 3 has an illumination of 89%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On January 3 the Moon is 11.64 days old. This refers to how many days it has been since the last New Moon. It takes 29.53 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth and go through the lunar cycle of all 8 Moon phases.

Moon Alert

Avoid shopping or making important decisions from 5 PM to 10 PM EST today (2 PM to 7 PM PST). After that, the Moon moves from Taurus into Gemini.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This is a tricky day because it’s a good day for financial wheeling and dealing and making purchases. Nevertheless, be aware of the restrictions of the Moon Alert. (See above.) Act, but act carefully.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This is a good day to finish an old writing project or revise previous travel plans. Meanwhile, it’s easy to impress others, which is why you might strike up a flirtation with a boss. (You feel sympathetic and empathetic with others today.)

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

With Mars in your sign, you can go after what you want. And what you want in the next few weeks is a chance to travel for pleasure! You want to see the world and have adventure! Really, you need a change of scenery. Even if it’s just the next town.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Ex-partners or an old friend from the past might be in the picture today. (Probably a female.) Meanwhile, romantic affection is strong! Who knows where this combination will lead? Be aware there’s an element of confusion and doubt present. Don’t do anything you will later regret.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Although you are working hard now, Mercury retrograde will create silly, stupid mistakes as well as delays and misplaced items. Just grin and bear it because this won’t last for long. On the upside, it can help you finish old business.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This is a playful, creative day! Some will be titillated by flirtations with an old flame or flattered to hear from someone from the past. Give free rein to your creative ideas. Enjoy social outings, especially with old friends, as well as sports events and fun times with kids.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You might be in touch with a relative you haven’t talked to for a while. This is a good day to tackle home repairs that you’ve been meaning to do. However, it’s also a lovely day to schmooze and have fun with friends. Enjoy!

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

A conversation with siblings or relatives you haven’t seen for a while is likely today. Quite possibly, you are entertaining at home? You might also redecorate where you live because you want to socialize with family right now. Stock the fridge.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Today is a good day to wrap up old financial matters or deal with loose ends. Meanwhile, your ability to communicate with neighbours and relatives is excellent because you feel genuine affection for others. You also appreciate your daily surroundings more than usual.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You’re in charge of things because the Sun is in your sign. However, Mercury retrograde is also in your sign causing you to make silly, goofy mistakes, misplaced things and arrive late at meetings. (Embarrassing.) You might like to shop for beautiful things today. If so – check the Moon Alert. (See above.)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Be aware that today is an excellent day for you to buy wardrobe items for yourself. However, there is a Moon Alert today. Simply avoid that window of time and shop for something that makes you look great in the eyes of others. (Hey — you never get a second chance to make a first impression.)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

You might be in contact with an old friend today or a member of a group to which you belong or used to belong. Whatever happens, you will find that you feel sympathetic and interested in what this person is to say. If you can help them – you will.

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actress Tia Carrere (1967) shares your birthday today. You are generous and caring. Because you are ambitious and have high expectations for yourself, you work hard. This will be a thrilling year for you because it’s the first year of a fresh nine-year cycle for you. Therefore, be open to new avenues. Open new doorways. Be courageous and adventurous!

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This year will bring you good financial opportunities. Many of you might inherit or benefit from the wealth and resources of someone else, including a spouse or a partner. It will also be a time of hard work, which means you will have to apply yourself to get the results you want.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This year holds marvellous opportunities for you. For starters, you can improve your health in 2023. Furthermore, you can get a better job, or improve your existing job with better duties and deserved recognition. Meanwhile, do what you can to stabilize your home and family scene.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actress Sheila McCarthy (1956) shares your birthday today. You are creative and adaptable. You are also strong willed and determined. You often look more confident than you feel. This year is the last year of a nine-year cycle, which means it’s time to take inventory of your life and let go of people places and things that are holding you back.

Moon Alert

Avoid shopping or important decisions from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM EST today (4:30 AM to 9:30 AM PST). After that, the Moon moves from Aries into Taurus.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Today it’s easy to emotionally identify with your possessions, which is why you may be less willing to part with something or lend it to someone. You might also feel you have to defend yourself about something where there is really nothing at stake.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Today the Moon is in your sign, which will heighten your emotions. It will also create a greater need in you to belong to or relate to friends and loved ones today. The good news is that it tends to make you a little luckier than everybody else. Ask the universe for a favour.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

This is a random date in the calendar. You don’t have to go out and paint the town red. It’s alright to stay home and hunker down. The reason I say this is because you don’t really feel much like socializing today. That’s quite alright. Relax.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

A number of people are making a lot of demands on your time now. You’re busy with partners, close friends as well as groups, clubs and organizations. A female colleague might figure prominently in your plans today. Is this a time for a frank discussion?

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

For two days every month, the Moon is at the top of your chart bringing your focus to professional and business concerns. It calls attention to you. In fact, some people will be aware of personal details about your private life. Do you need to do some damage control?

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Today you have an urge for a change of scenery. You want a chance to do something different that’s adventurous and exciting! Tread carefully because several other things might create some difficulties. Don’t be too ambitious. Just take baby steps today.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

The placement of the Moon today will draw your attention to financial matters, inheritances, taxes, debt and shared property. Family discussions about old business, especially about property or home repairs are likely today. Go gently because people will be defensive. (It is what it is.)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

For two days every month, the Moon will sit opposite your sign. When this occurs, you have to go more than halfway when dealing with others. You have to be cooperative and ready to compromise. Today is one of those days. (No biggie.)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Today you will have to put your own emotional considerations second to the demands of someone else. You might have to work for someone or perform a service for them. Nevertheless, this can be a gratifying experience. When we show kindness to others, we like ourselves more.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Romance might be more meaningful for you today because the Moon is sitting in the part of your chart that has domain over romance, fun, social occasions and all things creative. You might also be involved with children more than usual today. If so, you might feel overprotective.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Today you will enjoy the luxury of retiring to some place so that you can feel private and enjoy your own solitude. It’s the perfect time to go off by yourself and do a little navel gazing. You might see how strongly your habits control your life.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

When talking to others today, you want a real connection with them. That’s why you will feel frustrated if the conversation is superficial. You want to get right down to the nitty-gritty of something and share it with someone. Real feelings. Real facts.

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actor Lance Reddick (1962) shares your birthday today. You are highly individualistic and always choose to walk to March to the beat of your own drum. You are friendly and value your relationships with others. Simplicity is the key to life this year. Take charge of your health. Physical exercise is important. Stay grounded and levelheaded.

Moon Alert

There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The Moon is in Aries.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

You’re in the mood to make some serious plans today, especially regarding practical matters that you want to put into action. Someone older or more experienced might have advice or a good suggestion for you. Of course, it never hurts to listen. Someone’s advice might help you put a new spin on things.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This is an excellent day to study and learn something new. Behind the scenes research might reveal something valuable for you. Be open to suggestions from bosses, parents and people who might have more experience than you because this might be helpful.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

This is a good day to think about future travel plans and make practical decisions about travel or something to do with further education or training. Someone older from another country or a different culture might teach you something. Get ready to think about what is possible in your new year ahead.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
