March 2018 Energy Report

March 2018 Energy Report

A new month is upon us as we continue to speed down the ascension highway. It has been quite a wild ride so far and in the month whose name is the same word as that which describes forward movement, we’re going to see action this month, even though Mercury goes retrograde on the 22nd. We have the Equinox, the new astro year, lots of Pisces/Chiron action (soul wounds coming up for healing), new beginnings with the start of a new astro year in Aries, and two full moons. But with all of this focus on movement March’s theme is action taken from a healed, whole, and congruent perspective, cutting off the loose ends before we forge ahead in new directions. Whew, hold onto your hats, we may be taking a few corners on two wheels this month.

March opens with a big full moon we have all looked forward to after February’s constant shifts and changes because there were no full moons in February. This means that endings (full moons are ending/closing cycles) may have been delayed so we could have total clarity on what needed to wind down, release, and get complete with, all to clear the space for the new beginnings we can have this month. See my article on Completion and closure  at this link

But before we get closure March has a few gifts for us, including the movement of Venus and Mercury into Aries, inspiring us to take action, balanced with heavy Chiron activity in the first part of the month, and a new moon that exactly conjuncts Chiron on the 17th. Chiron represents the wounds that never heal, those energetic aspects that create areas of intense concentration in our energy fields, emotional black holes that are trigger points and strong energy drains.

We’ll see those come up this month too and I noticed that the new moon of the 17th, which sits on Chiron, occurs on St. Patrick’s Day. St. Patrick is celebrated for driving all of the witches out of Ireland, a dark time when millions of people who practiced the ancient pagan traditions were murdered or banished from Ireland and from many parts of Europe. It is estimated that the catholic church killed over 12 million people, mostly women, during the ‘burning times’.

Is this a healing opportunity for all of those who still bear the soul trauma of the persecution and worse, for being seers, healers, and wise women (wyrd women) in ancient times? This is one of the major barriers to the acceptance of our intuition and spiritual talents, the fear of being judged and persecuted for them. Is the March 17thnew moon on Chiron going to free us from this trauma and fear so we can confidently continue with our spiritual/material integration of the 3D/5D ascension paradigm? I think so, and I hope there is a lot of healing and clearing in this area.

March is the beginning of the astrological new year with the Sun moving into Aries on the 21st, just as Mercury goes retrograde in Aries on the 22nd. Does this mean we’re going backwards? No, but it does mean, together with the new moon on the 17th, that rather than rushing out of the gate, our forward movement may be  more considered, deliberate, and planned. Mercury in Aries can be a little spastic and this retro starting at the astro new year, together with the action orientation of March, is simply a reminder that our speed racers do have brakes to slow us down a little bit and there is reason for that.

I believe all of March’s movement is encouraging us to move in a multi-directional way – not forward and backward, but forward and outward, so we move forward and expand multi-dimensionally rather than simply moving forward in a straight line without also expanding our energy into new potentials. Our movement cannot be linear now, it has to be 360 and beyond, in an ever widening arc of spreading our light, energy, and truth into many areas of our life. Sometimes when we feel we can move forward we do so in a very linear way, we rush forward and try to cover as much ground as possible to make up for ‘lost time’ and ‘missed opportunities’.

It is tempting to want to get away from our limitations as soon as we feel that the shackles have come off but our forward movement is being channeled into new avenues starting this month. In addition to being aligned with our individual intentions, our movement must also be aligned with supporting the collective energy expansion. We don’t lose ground or opportunities; instead, we are encouraged to spread the energy around, to explore new avenues of potential, consider other alternatives we have not considered before.

This month we can move forward but we need to remember two things:

  1. We choose when we stop healing and start acting and we decide when we will no longer continue on the endless healing cycles that keep us stuck in old drama, trauma, pain, and suffering. So often we look at others’ progress to determine when our healing is complete but we have no control over what others do. The best question to ask now is ‘What new things am I ready for?’ and not ‘Are they healed yet and am I finished with that process?’
  2. We have a double mission, to be in our own light and energy and to shine that light and energy for others to see and to be inspired by. We have graduated from Light Workers to Light Beacons, and are moving out of the New Age into the Light Age. The speed of light is 186,000 miles/second – are we ready to move forward at that speed? We have the knowledge, tools, and awareness to embrace our light body and integrate it into our human body. So the answer is yes but we must do so intentionally, deliberately, and with full awareness of the destination or outcome we want to achieve.

With this month’s intense focus on moving out of our karmic healing cycles and releasing our trauma-based soul wounds, we are preparing to shift our focus from powering our energy draining emotional black holes to expanding our energy multi-dimensionally. Being stuck in the dark density of our soul wound trauma blocks our awareness of any other paths that are possible.

Open your vision this month, ask yourself what else is possible – what is the path that allows you to experience the greatest joy, peace, love, abundance, and prosperity? Then create your March-ing orders and start taking steps in that direction.

Have a fantastic month.

Rhea’s Invocation (to be spoken by a priestess who is invoking her)

I am the Earth before you walked on it.
I am the mountains before humans tracked them.
I am the fields before they were grazed
By any except the wild herds.
I am the trees before they were cut down,
When they grew so thick that no light
Could be seen between their branches.
I am the stones before they were dug.
I am the plants before they were bred
For your use, and then harvested.
I am the grandmother who saw you born.
I am the mentor who watched your first steps.
I am the Old One who watched you grow.
From my loins came my daughter Demeter
Who knew that you must eat more
Than my wilderness could give you,
And fed you from her bounty.
From her loins came my grandchild Persephone
Who gave herself to your Dead
That you might be nurtured both before and after.
I have watched you grow, my grandchildren,
But you were not my first children.
Tell me, then, what you will do for me?

(Each person comes forward and speaks an oath, saying how they will protect the earth for the elder children of Rhea, the plants and animals who were here before us. The juice is shared around, and the remainder poured as a libation for Her.)
Chant:
The Earth is our Mother, we must take care of her,
The Earth is our Mother, we must take care of her,
Hey and a ho and a ho na hey and a ho and a ho na na

Witches Herbal Cleansing Spell

To make an herbal cleansing bottle, pour a layer of sand in a large clear bottle. Add layers of dried herbs, one at a time: first rosemary; then lemon peel, sage, cedar, black peppercorns, lavender, dill, bay leaf, and rowan. When the bottle is full, focus cleansing protective energy into the herbs and sand, and see a golden light radiating from the bottle.

Visualize the herbs driving away negative influences. Cork and seal the bottle with white wax. Using a permanent marker, draw the Algiz rune on one side of the bottle, and on the other side draw a pentagram.

Set the bottle near your front or back door, and every six months, uncap, pour herbs out into the woods or your compost heap, and thoroughly wash and dry the bottle before filling it with a new round of herbs.

Since Spring Is Right Around the Corner: How to Cleanse Your Living Space

Clear away any clutter that’s collected on floors or surfaces. Recycle those stacks of newspapers, throw away those old bills, and send out that dirty laundry.

Using an old cloth or your broom, dust the corners of your ceilings for cobwebs. Dust the tops of your curtains and windowsills as well.

Starting at the doorway of your house, sweep the floors in a generally clockwise direction. Sweeping is an excellent example of practical magic, cleansing on both a physical and spiritual level.

Be sure to take the dustcan with you as you sweep. As my mother used to say “bring the garbage to the dustpile, not the dustpile to the garbage.”

Once you’ve finished sweeping, fill the bucket about halfway with hot water and floor cleaner. I recommend Murphy’s wood oil soap, or a pine-scented cleaner.

Add a few drops of the pine oil and eucalyptus oil to the bucket of water. Crumble up a leaf or two of sage and add that as well. Drop the pennies in.

Say a little prayer over the water to the God of your own understanding. Ask that your house be blessed, peaceful, and harmonious.

Starting again at the door of your house, mop the floors in a generally clockwise direction. Envision the charmed water clearing away old, muddy energy and leaving your house sparkling and new.

When you discard the old mop water, be sure to save the pennies from the bottom of the bucket. Wash them under warm tap water and say a blessing over them.

Now, place the pennies in the outer four corners of your house, beginning in the north and moving clockwise. Ask the spirits of the four directions to make your home safe, secure, and prosperous.

Using the lemon-scented polish, lovingly polish any wooden furniture in your house. Once again, envision old vibrations being cleared away.

Light your sage or sweetgrass and smudge the outer corners of each room, moving once again in a clockwise direction.

If this feels comfortable, use either your athame or the index finger of the hand you write with to sketch a pentacle in the air over each door and window of your house, envisioning the opening sealed against unwanted energies.

Tips:

Pagans believe that moving clockwise (“deosil”) invokes and that moving counterclockwise (“widdershins”) banishes.

If you have wall-to-wall carpeting or are very allergic to dust, you can perform this ritual with a vaccuum cleaner instead of a broom. Simply sprinkle a small amount of the charmed water (minus floor cleaner!) on the carpet.

You may wish to chant softly to yourself while cleaning. Any simple, rhyming chant will do. Here’s one example: “Gunk away, good stuff stay.”

When I smudge, I like to chant the names of the Goddess to myself: “Isis Astarte Diana, Hecate Demeter Kali, Innaana.”

Feel free to experiment with what you place in your mop water. I also like to use rose oil (love) and patchouly oil (prosperity).

Tuesday–The Day of Tiu

Tuesday–The Day of Tiu

Tuesday is the first day of the week which is named after a god of the Angles and Saxons–Tiu, the God of War. The Angles and Saxons, like the Greeks and Romans, worshiped many gods, and though these gods were in a great number of ways similar to those of the Greeks and Romans, we also find very great differences. These differences are due to the fact that the Angles and Saxons lived in a very different kind of country, led a very different kind of life, and consequently had different ideas. Their chief enemies were frost and cold, and they imagined the freezing winds to be caused by frost-giants who lived in a land of ice and waged continual warfare with the gods who befriended man and protected him as far as they could against the frost-giants and all the suffering which they caused. The chief of these gods was Woden or Odin, the All-father, of whom we read in the following chapter, and next to him in importance came Thor, the God of Thunder, the bitterest enemy of the giants. The god after whom Tuesday is named was known as Tiu among the Angles and Saxons, and as Tyr among the Norsemen. He was the God of War, and corresponds to Mars among the Romans, whose name for this day was Dies Martis, the day of Mars. The French have kept the Roman name in the form mardi.

Tiu was a great fighter and knew no fear, and was naturally always called upon in time of battle. He was usually represented as having no right hand, owing to a misfortune which befell him in the following way. From his lofty throne Odin, the chief of the gods, one day saw in the land of the giants three terrible monsters, which grew so rapidly that he was filled with fear lest they should invade the home of the gods. Accordingly he determined to get rid of them before they became any stronger. One Hel, an enormous giantess, he flung into the Underworld, where, as the Goddess of Death, she ruled over the kingdom of the dead. Another, Iormungandr, a serpent, he cast into the sea, where it grew so huge that it encircled the whole earth. The third was Fenrir, a wolf, whom Odin brought to Asgard, the home of the gods, hoping that he might eventually tame him. Fenrir, however, grew stronger and fiercer each day, until the gods, of whom Tiu alone was brave enough to go near him, decided at last to bind him in such a way that he could do no harm. A very strong chain was obtained, and the gods suggested to Fenrir, who often boasted of his great strength, that he should allow himself to be bound with it in order to prove whether he was really as strong as he claimed to be. Fenrir agreed, and then by merely stretching himself easily brohe his bonds. Again the gods put him to the test with a still stronger chain, but as before he succeeded in breaking it. Seeing that no ordinary chain would be strong enough to bind Fenrir, the gods sent one of their servants to the home of the dwarfs, a race of little people who lived underground, and who were very clever workers in metal. They also possessed great powers of magic, as we shall see in a later story. At the bidding of the gods, the dwarfs made a silken rope out of the voice of fishes, a woman’s beard, the roots of a mountain, and the footsteps of a cat, which was so strong that no power could break it! A third time the gods challenged Fenrir to show his strength by allowing himself to be bound with this new cord, but Fenrir became suspicious, and at last consented only on condition that one of the gods should put his hand in his mouth, and hold it there as a pledge that the gods were not deceiving him. This condition greatly alarmed the gods, who began to fear that their trick was not going to succeed, but the bold war-god Tiu stepped forward and, without any hesitation, placed his right hand in the wolf’s mouth. The gods at once bound Fenrir with the magic cord made by the dwarfs, and, in spite of all his struggles, the wolf was unable to free himself. Great was the delight of the gods at their success, a delight shared by all but Tiu, who had little cause to be pleased with the result of the trick, for Fenrir, finding he was trapped, immediately bit off the hand of the god. Thus Tiu was deprived of his sword hand, but so clever was he that he wielded his sword equally well with his left hand, and still remained invincible in battle.

On one occasion Tiu and Thor, the God of Thunder, set out for the land of the giants to obtain an enormous kettle, which the gods required for a feast. They came at last to the home of a giant, Hymir, who possessed a kettle a mile deep and a mile wide, and were hospitably received by the giant’s wife. When she learned the errand on which they had come, she warned them that her husband was very fierce and hot-tempered, and advised them to hide themselves when Hymir returned, lest he should kill them with a glance. No sooner had the gods taken refuge behind some kettles, which were kept on a beam at the end of the hall, than Hymir came in. When he heard that visitors had called, he flashed his eyes round the hall so fiercely that, as his glance lighted on the gods’ hiding-place, the beam split in two, the kettles came crashing to the ground, and Tiu and Thor were discovered. Hymir, however, was persuaded by his wife to receive the gods kindly; he prepared a meal of three oxen in their honour, but was astonished and dismayed to see Thor eat two of them himself. The next day the gods gave the giant many proofs of their great strength and skill, and Hymir consented to give them the kettle they were seeking. Tiu at once tried to lift it but failed; then Thor, after a mighty struggle, raised it from the ground, and, as he gave the final pull, his feet broke through the floor of the giant’s house. As soon as the gods had departed, Thor carrying the kettle on his head, Hymir called his brothers together, and pursued after them. Thor, however, attacked them with his famous hammer, and killed them one by one. Tiu and Thor then continued their journey, and brought the huge kettle safely to their own land.

There are few stories told of Tiu, yet he held a high place among the gods, as the name Tuesday shows. He is most famous for his share in the binding of Fenrir, whereby was put off the dreaded Ragnarok, the day of the final battle between the gods and the giants.

Whale Festival (California)
WHALE GODDESS

Themes: Nature; Meditation; Rebirth; Movement

Symbols: Water; Whale

About the Whale Goddess: In Arabic tradition, the Whale Goddess swallowed Jonah, neatly giving him time to consider his life and actions seriously before his figurative reibrth. Let’s hope she doesn’t have to go that far to get our attention this month (or anytime, for that matter).

In some stories, the earth rests on this goddess’s back and earthquakes result when she gets upset and shakes her tail. Symbolically, when your life seems on shaky ground, consider what this goddess is trying to tell you!

To Do Today: Around this time of year in Northern California, people examine the coastline with renewed interest and anticipation. They’re watching the annual whale migration—a breathtaking sight. Since many of us cannot experience this firsthand, consider the whale as a magickal symbol instead. The gods ride whales to carry messages to the mortal world. Witches ride them to bear their magick on the water. In both instances the whale carries something–either to your heart or toward a goal. Use this image in meditations for movement, and consider the symbolism if whales shows up in your dreams tonight

If possible, visit an aquarium and watch whales there. Or send a donation to an accredited facility to give something back to the Whale Goddess and her children.

The Month of March

Goth fantasy

The Month of March

As March blows into our lives bringing spring and new begginings, we look to the source of all life as our Goddess of the Month.

Over 6000 years ago, the known world had a different feel. There were no city fortresses, or war. Progress was centred around the development of art, crafts, and agriculture. Then, unlike today, the societies of the world were matriarchal. The sexes were equal but the role of mother and giver of life was unequalled by any task that men could do and so women were honoured and their societies flourished.

Later, around 3,500 BCE, marauding bands of men began destabilizing these societies and subjugating women. Few were able to withstand the superior strength of the invaders. The Amazons, for example, were among the few surviving cultures. In subsequent years the temples, statues, art work, and beauty of those civilizations were lost and buried but not gone from our deepest unconscious. Modern archeologists have found in certain places like Turkey, evidence of highly developed cultures. Unfortunately, an unbiased interpretation did not always find its way into history.

We are in essence a replication of each human that ever was born. Within ourselves we carry patterns and thoughts that connect us with the past. This term was called the collective unconscious by Carl Jung. While the mysteries of the Goddess have been buried, they have not died. The constant change of seasons and the rebirth of the land each spring tell us that our origin from a Great Mother is part of us all. Many myths tell of Her rise from Chaos to give birth to humanity.

There are many creation stories from cultures all around the world. The Goddesses will have different names that are familiar to each of us and so we celebrate not one but all of the women in history who represent the life force of the culture in which you belong. To honour Her, plant a seed and watch it grow. Tend it with loving care and watch its many faces throughout the year and remember the source of your life.

Come and wake the sleepers
Rouse them with a song
Tell them winter’s over

Sing awake the flowers

Tell them spring is here now

Set the world to dancing
Soon will summer come

Set so long ago
Must awake and ready
For it’s time to grow

Your Cosmic Weather Horoscopes for the Month of March

Your Cosmic Weather Horoscopes for the Month of March

 by Jane Lyle, Astrologer

From the Astrology Room

The global hive is awake, and the season turns as we approach the Vernal Equinox on 20th March. So please do relish the very early days of March, still drowsy and dreaming beneath planets in Pisces, and a hazy full Moon in Virgo – the first of two full Moons this month. The remainder of March demands action.

Tuesday 6th March – Saturday 31st March:

Sheep and Goats – The Challenges of March, 2018

Venus and Mercury enter fiery Aries, the Ram, today. A blast of fresh, straightforward energy, a burst of pure, spring-like optimism is born. This bright partnership is around until 22nd March. So, our spring-time actions speak louder than words – but wait! Don’t accelerate too fast. Sober old Saturn, in the sign of the Sea Goat, is about to slow us down a little.

This is especially important news for Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, and for anyone with planets in those signs at 7 – 10 degrees.

What might we watch out for? The machinations of Mercury are worth noticing for a start. Chatty, mischievous Mercury represents media and travel, amongst other things. When Mercury clashes with Saturn there’s an air of restraint, restrictions, or limitations on what we say, tweet, write, or express. Similarly, travel delays or speed limits are in the news. Mercury in Aries can be tactless as well, multiplying the ‘oops I didn’t mean that’ moments this spring.

With Mercury reversing in Aries from the 23rd March – 15th April, it’s sensible to allow extra time for all our journeys, large and small, this spring, and take all the usual Mercury backtracking precautions.

Mercury squares off with Saturn on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th March. Over this weekend, many of us will be saying ‘enough is enough’ about something in our lives. The same impulses to take action reappear between 21st and 26th April – so if we hold off on facing up to something now, we’ll get another invitation from the Universe!

And pleasure-loving Venus, lively, sporty, and impulsive in Aries, faces up to Saturn too – on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th March. Some limitations in love, art, fashion, money, and social events are the usual manifestations. Yet this isn’t always such a bad thing, it favours refinement, it says ‘less is more’. It could also be a helpful time to begin a diet, clear out your wardrobe, or experiment with some kind of digital detox.

If this all sounds too bleak, here’s a more charming Venus-and-Saturn thought:

‘Elegance is rare in the modern world, largely because it requires precision, attention to detail, and the careful development of a delicate taste in all forms of manners and style.’

– Genevieve Antoine Dariaux, ‘Elegance’ (1964)

Practising sorting the sheep from the goats with delicacy and precision is helpful preparation for later in March, when things take a more uncompromising, even dramatic turn.

A Bracing time

As the weeks pass, there’s no doubt that we’re in for an eventful, bracing time. It kicks in during the run-up to the end of March, culminating in the Easter weekend of 30th March – 2nd April.

On Wednesday 28th March – Thursday 29th March the Sun, newly vibrant in Aries, argues with Saturn in Capricorn. People in authority and government are tested, or must face up to very serious situations, and a great deal of effort or responsibility. In our own families, and at work, a similar story is told about those in charge, or senior family members. It can be a dynamic turning point.

Alongside this, Mars – ruling action and desire – moves towards meeting Time Lord Saturn in Capricorn – exact at the beginning of April. This is a weighty moment.

Mars and Saturn don’t align in the same sign again until 2020. The basic message of these two is ‘restricted action’. This means hard work, and heavy responsibilities – yet what’s achieved can last for a long time when the young warrior and the old king work together. Sport, finance, military plans, and legal matters are all in high focus this spring.

So, yes, it’s looking quite crunchy in the days leading up to a dynamic, possibly disruptive, Libran full Moon on 31st March on Easter Saturday.

These testing, push-me-pull-you days begin around Saturday, 24th March, when the mighty Sun challenges Mars, highlighting anger, impulsiveness, and confrontational events.

Uncompromising attitudes in our world continue to buffet us over the Easter weekend that follows.  Such sobering, chillsome cosmic weather demands extra effort, discipline, and caution from everyone. This is the big astrological theme for March 2018.

If you, or someone close, have planets in Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn at around 7 – 10 degrees of those signs, prepare for a seriously grown-up phase this spring.

An astrologer can always tell you more about how this works out for you personally, of course.

Saturday 17th March:

St. Patrick’s Day and a potent New Moon in Pisces

Pisces new Moon celebrates what’s fantastical, entertaining, contemplative or magical. This one comes powered by Jupiter for a thrilling tour of the haunted castle, or the mysterious underground cavern. There’s healing potential, and incredible imaginative energy here.

But Mars square the Moon spells uncertain tempers and turbulent emotions. Close by, the fixed star Scheat in the constellation Pegasus symbolises amazing potential, yet warns against risky falls from the heights.

So please do be extremely aware of confusion – this is not the time to begin work requiring balance or consistency. Over-inflated dreams will fail, while pushing recklessly ahead brings accidents. Why not simply indulge in some rest and relaxation instead? Your imagination is bursting with gifts for you.

Tuesday, 20th – Wednesday 21st March:

The Spring Equinox

Spring is here! Today, the Sun enters the first sign of the Zodiac, Aries. Our astrological year begins. All the symbolism of this pivotal moment is about new life, fertility, dynamism, beginnings.  This year, an earthy Taurus Moon expands that intoxicating feeling of spring fever, while hot-headed Mars stirs up energy and fighting spirit from equally earthy Capricorn.

The day and night are of equal length now, a point of balance. We’ll have to look for it and strive for it. In many corners of this fresh spring world we are – collectively – quite as mad as those magical, traditional March Hares.

Saturday 31st March:

Balancing Trick – The Full Moon in Libra

A full Moon in Libra always has balance, poise, and artful skill at its heart. This one – connecting with sober Saturn and determined Mars – throws down a tough challenge. It poses questions about partnerships between me and you, us and them, the people and their governments, independence and security. It is dynamic, meaning that we can (eventually) work things out.

This is a Blue Moon, the second full Moon this month. It energises the national horoscopes of many locations. All of them will be considering their partnerships, governments, and alliances, one way or another. They include the UK, Israel and Palestine, Australia, Russia, and much of Eastern Europe.
