The Witches Guide to Fridays

Celtic WarriorThe Witches Guide to Fridays

Ruler: Freya, Venus

Colors: Emerald green or pink

Power Hours: Sunrise and the 8th, 16th, and 24th hours following.

Key Words: Love, money, health

It is easy to spot the ruler of this day by its name. In the word Friday, we see the roots of the name of the Norse goddess Freya, a goddess of love and fertility, and the most beautiful and propitious of the goddesses thus the verse “Friday’s child is loving and giving.”

In Spanish this day of the week is called Viernes and is derived from the goddess Venus. Matters of love, human interaction, the fluidity of communication, sewing and the creation of artistic garments, household improvement, shopping, and party planning all fall under the aspects of Friday and its ruling planet, Venus.

Friday’s angels are Ariel/Uriel, Rachiel, and Sachiel. Rachiel also concerns himself with human sexuality and is a presiding spirit of the planet Venus.

On Fridays, the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Venus, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. These four hours are the strongest four hours for conducting ritual.

Check the local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac to determine your local sunrise.

The Magickal Day of Friday

Friday falls at the end of the work week for many of us, and that means we get a chance to relax for a little bit! Mark your Fridays with colors like pink and aqua, and metals such as copper. This is a day ruled by the planet Venus, so it should be no surprise that Venus and Aphrodite – goddesses of love and beauty – are associated with Fridays. This is a day named for the Norse goddess Freyja, so be sure to take a moment to honor her as well.

Gemstones associated with Friday include coral, emerald and rose quartz, and plants like strawberries, apple blossoms and feverfew are also related. This is a good day to do spellwork associated with family life and fertility, sexuality, harmony, friendship, growth. Take advantage of Friday’s correspondences and plant a seed, make something grow, and enjoy your blessings

*Note: There are a lot of disputes as to the origins of the word Friday, because there is still a great deal of discussion as to whether it was named for Freyja or Frigga, and whether they were the same deity or two separate ones. Some scholars believe that while they may have eventually become two distinctly different goddesses, they could have had their origins in a single, common Proto-Germanic deity.

On Friday, March 17th, We Celebrate…..

Celtic AnimeOn Friday, March 17th, We Celebrate…..

Easter (Date and Location Vary)
OSTARA

Themes: Fertility; Rebirth

Symbols: Egg

About Ostara: The Teutonic goddess Ostara presides over personal renewal, fertility, and fruitfulness. Now that spring is here, it’s a good time to think about renewal in your own life. Ostara represents spring’s life force and earth’s renewal. Depicted as lovely as the season itself, in earlier writings she was also the goddess of dawn, a time of new beginnings (spring being the figurative dawn of the year). One of Ostara’s name variations, Esotara, slowly evolved into the modern name for this holiday, Easter.

To Do Today: All spells and foods that include eggs are appropriate today. If you’ve been ill, try an old folk spell that recommends carrying an egg for twenty-four hours, then burying it to bury the sickness.

To improve fertility of all kinds, make eggs for breakfast at dawn’s first light, the best time to invoke Ostara. As you eat, add an incantation like this one:

Ostara, bring to me fertility;
with this egg now bless my fruitfulness!

Or, if you’re feeling down and need a little extra hope, get up before the sun rises and release a symbol of your burden to the earth by dropping or burying it. Don’t look at it. Turn your back and leave it there. Turn toward the horizon as the sun rises, and harvest the first flower you see. Dry it, then carry it with you often as a charm to preserve hope in your heart.

The fairest or foulest day of the week.

Venus and Mercury, A close pass in the evening sky

The Sun’s two closest planets are staging a switcheroo this month. Mercury is climbing higher into the evening sky, while Venus is dropping out of the evening sky. And if you look at just the right time, you can see them standing almost side by side the next few evenings.

Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun. Since Earth is the third planet out, Mercury has a limited range of motion across our sky, so the little planet rarely climbs into really good view. At best, it’s visible for a little while before sunrise or after sunset, quite low above the horizon.

Mercury passed behind the Sun earlier this month. Now, it’s moving away from the Sun, so it’s climbing into the evening sky. In fact, this is its best evening appearance for the entire year. It’ll climb higher over the next few nights, making it easier to see.

Venus is the second planet from the Sun. It’s getting ready to cross between Earth and Sun, so it’s dropping lower in the sky each evening — ready to move into the morning sky in about a week.

For now, though, look for Venus quite low in the west beginning about 15 minutes after sunset. It’s the “evening star,” so if you have a clear horizon, you can’t miss it. Tonight, much fainter Mercury is close to its lower left, but you probably need binoculars to pluck it from the twilight glow. The two worlds will stand side by side tomorrow night, with Mercury climbing away from Venus — and into better view — on succeeding nights

The Sky for the Month of March

Celtic Love The Sky for the Month of March

March 17: Venus and Mercury

The Sun’s two closest planets are staging a switcheroo. Mercury is climbing higher into the evening sky, while Venus is dropping out of the sky. Venus is the brilliant “evening star,” with much fainter Mercury close to its lower left tonight.
March 18: Moon, Antares, Saturn

The planet Saturn is in good view early tomorrow. It looks like a bright star to the lower left of the Moon at first light. The bright star Antares stands about the same distance to the lower right of the Moon.
March 19: Vernal Equinox

Those of us in the United States will wake up to a new season tomorrow. Spring begins at 5:29 a.m. CDT, which is the moment of the vernal equinox. It occurs when the Sun crosses Earth’s equator from south to north.
March 20: Crater

The constellation Crater, the cup, is visible this month in the southeastern evening sky. Its stars are faint, so you need dark skies to find it. To ancient European cultures, Crater represented the birthplace of storms.
March 21: Milky Way Clouds

The stars of the Milky Way intertwine with clouds of gas and dust that can span many light-years. Some of them are bright and colorful; others, dark and quiet. The dark clouds are giving birth to new stars. They are dark because their gas is cold.
March 22: Winter Circle

Spring has already sprung, but a great pattern of stars named for winter still dominates the western evening sky. The Winter Circle includes some of the most prominent stars of all, including Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky.

Along the way you will be seeing…..

Celtic Green Woman
Some Irish curses that I grew up and now some of them are rather humorous and some of them are very deadly. But for those amongst us that enjoy these kinds of things, I thought, why not? All Irish curses take the same form, they are intended to be said to the victims face, many people spit on the ground after delivering the curse, or crossing themselves. Who knows the wrong look and you could have been cursed!

“May the worms devour your dead body, and may the rains do harm worse.”

Celtic Commandments

CelticCeltic Commandments

Give thou thine heart to the wild magic,
To the Lord and the Lady of Nature,
Beyond any consideration of this world.

Do not covet large or small,
Do not despise weakling or poor,
Semblance of evil allow not near thee,
Never give nor earn thou shame.

The Ancient Harmonies are given thee,
Understand them early and prove,
Be one with the power of the elements,
Put behind thee dishonour and lies.

Be loyal to the Lord of the Wild Wood,
Be true to the Lady of the Stars,
Be true to thine own self besides,
True to the magic of Nature above all else.

Do not thou curse anyone,
Lest thou threefold cursed shouldst be,
And shouldst thou travel ocean and earth,
Follow the very step of the ancient trackways.

Wishing All Our Dear Brothers & Sisters of the Craft A Very Happy Irish Heritage Day!

CELTIC KING . . . by Piedad5007
That’s right, IT IS IRISH HERITAGE DAY here on the WOTC! I told  you we don’t celebrate St. Patrick because of what he did to our brothers & sisters the Druids. I know, long time to hold a grudge but someone has to preserve our history. In case you don’t know what I am referring to, the snakes that St. Patrick was suppose to have drove out of Ireland, well truth be told, Ireland never had snakes. The snakes he drove out was another name for the Druids in Ireland. He was on a mission to exterminate each and everyone of them. It is a story all to familiar to a witch. It would be like us celebrating the Pope who started all the witch hunts back in the day. Anyone who tries to wipe out an entire race of people, should never be labeled a saint nor should they hold the title of Pope. You will find information on here about Patrick but it is all leading up to his plans to exterminate the Druids. That is the only reason he will be on here today at all.

Oh, by the way we have a new internet provider, Comcast and we are getting ready to see how they do. Without further a’do let’s get this show on the road.

Happy Irish Heritage Day,

Love Ya,

Lady A

Our Internet Is So, So Screwed Up……

Good morning or should I say afternoon? Right now our internet is so messed up that the pages we try to load keep telling us, “they don’t exist, wrong url” or some other crazy bullshit. If this actually posts, I will fall out of my chair. We have called the internet provider and they are suppose to be here shortly. Yeah, right!

I figure while I am explaining what is wrong with the site, I might as well go ahead and explain what is wrong with me. Especially since the Podcast doesn’t seem to be attracting as many as it use too. Ever since, I had the wreck last year, both of my hips have been killing me. The left one has been replaced but it was strange the doctor wouldn’t touch the right one. The pain got worse and worse, I ended up walked with the aid of a cane (my mother’s cane). As you know I recently when to see a dear friend I have known for years, who is a neurologist. He examined my right hip and there is a mass located on that hip. That is clearly why the other doctor wouldn’t touch it. The neurologist couldn’t understand how the other doctor missed it. More than likely it is a tumor either on that hip or coming from the inside of the hip. The doctor has scheduled an MRI to see how big the tumor is. After that a biopsy will be done to see if it is cancerous or not. Either way it will have to be removed. The neurologist suggested that if it is cancerous  perhaps it can be removed by Kemo or some other drug instead of surgery. I have been in pain that I cannot even begin to describe. The neurologist has me on two different types of medication right now. One is a very strong pain killer. So if at times on the podcast, if my words seem slurred or hard to understand, you know why. You might also wonder why I insist on doing it? I will tell you. It keeps my mind off the possibility that my life might be soon coming to an end. Both my mother and sister passed due to cancer. My mother’s started in her bones. I have all the symptoms that she had. In fact, I have been going back to the time the cancer ate its way through her hip. I have actually been going into her body and seeing through her eyes. I see her laying in bed, I see her right hip, leg, and foot in traction and I feel the pain she feels. The neurologist keeps telling me things has changed since she passed with cancer. But you have to take into consideration this has been going on for almost a year now. Time enough to spread all over my body.

It is strange when you are confronted with the possibility of your own death. I believe at first it really doesn’t sink in, you are sort of in shock. Then it hits you and you start to question everything you ever believed in. Why? Why? Why? You worry about the people you are going to leave behind. I haven’t told my kids yet and the only way they will ever know is if they read this posts and they will. My mother-in-law told me once she didn’t want a bunch of people crying over her when she died, especially if they never come around her while she was alive. I am finding out that she was a very wise woman. She also said if she knew then what she knew now, she would have had puppies. Indeed a smart woman. As I am sure you all know my children and myself do not have a close relationship. We did while they were growing up but after that, no more. Since I lost my mother at the age of 11, I told them one day they would miss me but on that day it would be too late. I am hoping that day is not fast approaching but if it is, so be it. Oh, I can guarantee you,  I am not going to lay down and accept my fate. I plan on fighting all the way to the end. Like the doctor said, “modern medicine is a wonder these days.”

Since it had already been noticed on the Podcast in regards to my speech, I figured I might as well tell you why. I had made a few comments about my medicine being changed and it has been. I am on one of the most powerful pain pills in the country. Actually, if I didn’t know I had the tumor on my side I would say I felt great. But I know that is a lie, I would only be kidding myself. I plan to keep going because the work takes my mind off the looming threat of death. To have that looming threat is only normal, I have seen two of the women I love very dearly die from cancer. My sister was pitiful it when to her brain and the last time I saw her, she didn’t even know who I was. My mother suffered and suffered for two years with the pain of cancer eating at her body. You have those thoughts and memories in your mind,  you wonder strange things.

Life has a way of kicking you in the ass when you least expect it. Everything was going great, life seemed full of hope and promise and then a lead balloon gets dropped on your parade. I don’t want your pity. I just wanted to make you aware of the current situation I am facing. I have always cursed the drunk that hit us that day but in reality, that drunk might have save my life. As things progress, either Mystie, Lord M  or myself will keep you updated on my progress.

I would ask that you occasionally say a prayer for me. A prayer for strength and courage to face what is a head. I am no where near ready to leave this plane and I guarantee you I will be fighting to the last breathe I draw. I have close friends, they try to help, they know when I get quiet I am dwelling on the tumor. My true comfort right now comes from the Goddess. I have seen Her everywhere I look. I know there is an after-life and I know She is there waiting. She supplies me with comfort and love when no one else can. She has shown me the Summerlands  and also who is waiting there for me. With what the Goddess has shown me and to see how beautiful our next phase of existence really is, my mind is now at ease and all my questions have been answered.

I apologize for writing a book. I believe Mystie said the internet technician just pulled up and I must go. I wanted you to know what was going on with me and perhaps I offered some a few answers for the questions that have been floating around.

Keep me in your prayers,

I do love each and everyone of you,

Lady of the Abyss
