Pagan Crafting for Tuesday, January 10th – Lavender Bath Treatment

Black Cats - My entry #4Lavender Bath Treatment

Lavender essential oil is reassuring, soporific, and is often their first choice of aromatherapists for treating emotional or mental stress. It also reduces muscular pain, whether from illness or physical exertion, and soothes the skin. I can’t think of a more perfect herb for a relaxing bath.

Ingredients for a lavender bath treatment:

4 cups epsom salts
2 cups Sea salt
1 cup non fat powdered milk
2 cups oatmeal ground to a very fine powder in a food processor or
coffee grinder-use the old fashioned kind
40 drops of lavender essential oil

Mix together all the dry ingredients in a large bowl, sieve if you wish, then add the lavender 10 drops at a time, thoroughly mix it through. Do this 4 times, so that the lavender essential oil is distributed.

I then put the mix in glass jars and put a pretty sticker on the jar with all the ingredients and the date when I made it.

The Witches Spell-A-Day for Tuesday, January 10th – Happy and Prosperous

Invoke Ebisu, the jolly Japanese god of commerce. Plan for a financially sound year by setting a simple budget. Make a spreadsheet to track the coming twelve months. Under “Expenses,” list all of your regular expenses, including utilities, housing, food, insurance, transportation, medical, dental, entertainment, and recreation. Under “Income,” list all sources of money that flows to you, such as wages, trust funds, child support, disability allowance, and government support payments.

Knowledge is power, and knowing exactly what you earn and spend will give you the power to manage your finances wisely. Place the budget on your altar with a coin, an offering to Evisu, and say:

Bless me, Ebisu, you happb, prosperous God.
May I have sufficient resources to cover my expenses.
May I be happy. May I earn more than I spend.

Review your budget monthly adding current data.

Let’s Talk Witch – Finding Where You Fit In

Halloween Black Cats
Let’s Talk Witch – Finding Where You Fit In

Everyone wants to fit in, that is no secret. You want to feel like you are a part of something special, and it is the same with this religion. Just as there are several different sanctions of Catholicism and Christianity, there are many different branches of Wicca as well. In fact, it seems that the Wiccan religion is more flexible than even Christianity because Wiccans can make their own groups based on their belief system. Find your Wiccan community, and if you don’t feel like you fit in, just go on your own way, and be a lone wolf. There are a lot of lone wolf Wiccans.

Covens
This is one of the best known types of Wiccan groups. Think of it like the country club for Wiccans. This is a large group of Wiccans that schedule regular meetings, and they often have club dues. Along with having dues, they often have a lot of rules and regulations that you don’t see in a less strict group of Wiccans, but that is because they want their coven to stay on the straight and narrow, and when you have too many witches in one group, then you could have some serious issues if one of them go rogue. You as a part of the coven could get taken down with the rogue. So covens have to be kind of strict to keep things organized.

Covens are also great for beginners because there are rules. It may feel confining to not be able to find your style in the beginning, but you could grow to appreciate having so much help as you are learning. With covens, it is an all hands on deck deal. If one member is not up to par, all members of the coven pitch in to help the weak link. However, within a reasonable amount of time, there are possibilities you may get kicked out if you are in a pretentious coven. It is for the best if you are kicked out of a coven like that. A coven based on pretenses is one that has the most risk of turning to dark magic.

If you feel like a coven could be a good fit for you, you can go online to find one that is near you. There are a lot of online forums for Wiccan covens. This is often how they find new members in their area. If you are interested in it, try it for yourself.

Circles
A circle is a little different than a coven. The main difference is the size. A circle is always five people no matter what. One person for each element. The best part about this is, you can build your own circle pretty easily if you know four other Wiccans. Circles have rules and regulations like a coven, but they are often less strict due to the fact that they do not have the sheer volume that covens have.

Circles are a great way to establish rituals, and learning how to cast spells. If you do not feel like starting your own circle, you can look to see if there is a circle that is needing a new member online. Circles are great because you have people who can help you get to their level, and you don’t have to worry about pretentiousness. You also don’t have to worry about information overload, because there are a lot fewer people who are helping you.
When you are a part of a circle, it can be a great bonding experience as well. Since you don’t have to pay dues to be in a circle, you find yourself making true bonds with the people you are working with. In a coven you are making forced bonds because you paid your money to be there, and you have to drag your butt there at least once a month. More if there is a celebration that month.

With a circle, you don’t have to meet a certain amount of times if you choose not to. Most circles only meet when there is a need, or they feel they need to practice a spell. Needs could be a pollution problem in the area, and needing to cast a protection spell on the trees and the earth. Or it could be a drought, and you need to beg to Mother Goddess to please bring rain. These are some of the needs that circles meet for.

If one of you finds a spell that you think is useful, you may meet several days in a row to practice it until you have it down.

Circles also meet for celebrations, but rather than a whole ordeal where an Elder gets up and speaks about how you should thank the great goddess and horned god that you are able to gather with your brothers and sisters in this time of power and all the other things that Elders drone on about, you can actually be out there using your power. This is one of the best perks of being a part of a circle.

If you feel like you might fit in with a circle, you can either start your own or look for one in your area looking for a new member. You never know, you might find the place that you belong.

Eclectic
This is a group of Wiccans who really don’t have a lot of rules, and are all at multiple different levels. It is great if you do not want to be pressured into having to become great in a short period of time, but the lack of rules and structure can cause a lot of rogues if you are not careful.
Eclectic groups are made up of a lot of different Wiccans, of all different ages. This makes it the most different from covens and circles because with circles, it is generally people around the same age, and with covens, there are groups of ages. And by a certain age, you are expected to be at a certain level. With an eclectic group, you may find a twenty-one-year-old at a level seven, and a forty-year-old at a level two. There is no limit for what level you have to be at what age. You just have to be willing to put in the time, and the effort to become the best you can be. Electic groups are also a little out there when it comes to beliefs. They are like the hippies of the Wiccan world. They have some radical ideas that could change the world, but they are often looked down upon by “civilized” groups such as covens or circles. Because eclectic groups are so different, there is not a lot of information on what they do, but if you want to find out what they do, you could look online for an eclectic forum and learn more about if there is a group in your area taking members

Solitary

Some Wiccans choose to learn the ropes by themselves, rather than let someone else take the reins. This is because they do not want to be steered in the wrong direction due to choosing the wrong group, or because they are just more comfortable being alone.
If you choose to be alone, you have to be good at self-motivating. However, it is a lot easier to learn at your own pace and you don’t have to search for a group.

Tuesday is Ruled by Mars

Gothic CatsTuesday is Ruled by Mars

Tuesday is a Mars day, and just like the god of war, this is the time to tap into magicks to call for strength and courage. This day of the week is for rebels and warriors. If you are facing a challenge of any kind, need a boost to your courage, or want to enhance your passions, Tuesday is the day of the week for you.
Some suggestions for Tuesday enchantments would include:

*Wearing the fiery colors associated with this day: scarlet, red, black, and orange. Don some of the more daring and bewitching colors of your wardrobe on Tuesdays and turn a few heads

*Carrying a bloodstone in your pocket or wearing garnet-studded jewelry to reinforce your convictions

*Working with protective and fire-associated plants such as the snapdragon, thistle, and holly to boost your shields and bravery

*Burning spicy-scented energy-enhancing candles to add a little magical aromatherapy to your home

*Cooking up a hearty meal featuring carrots, peppers, and garlic (all Mars foods and spices) to empower yourself for victory and success

On January 10th, We Celebrate…

 BLACK CATS ARE BEAUTIFUL...by Piedad5007On January 10th, We Celebrate….

League of Nations Day (United States)
IRENE

Themes: Peace; Cooperation, Reconciliation

Symbols: A Peace Sign; White; Gates and Entryways

About Jrene: Look to this Greek goddess of peace to get the year off harmoniously with your neighbor and with all those you meet. Irene is Zeus’s daughter and one of three Horae who together preside over matters of peace, order, and justice. They guarded the gates of Mount Olympus to ensure that all who passed had good-intentioned hearts. Offerings to Irene were always bloodless, in honor of her amicable energy.

To Do Today: In 1920, the League of Nations was founded on this date to encourage harmony between nations. To commemorate this and honor Irene, extend the hand of truce to someone with whom you’ve been bickering. Let the energy of this day pour through you to begin healing that situation. Peace is something that really begins in our own backyards.

To generate harmony at home and in your heart, make this simple Irene charm. On a piece of white paper draw a peace sign. Fold this three times, saying,

Order—never cease, justice—release,
let there be peace.

Put this somewhere safe in your home so Irene’s gentle warmth can fill your words and actions all year. Better still, make two charms and carry one with you to keep the peace in all your interactions! Wear a white piece of clothing today as a reminder to approach life with peaceful intentions, words, and actions.

Today Is: Tuesday, January 10th

Black Cats Are BeautifulToday Is: Tuesday, January 10th

The day of Mars…also Ares, Tiwaz, Tiw (from whom it is named), Tuisco, and Tyr. Tuesday is ruled by Mars, whose Magickal influences are: Passion, courage, aggression, and protection. Tuesday comes under the influence of Mars, the planet associated with vitality, passion, ambition, and raw, unabashed power. Mars energy makes the mind acute, and the body restless; therefore, on Tuesday we are likely to exert ourselves physically and take action to achieve goals. This day is dynamic and high-spirited, and the prevailing energies may include carelessness and destructiveness as well, so it is good to be cautious—especially while traveling. Tuesday is the proper day of the week to perform rituals involving courage, physical strength, revenge, surgery, and the breaking of negative spells.

Ilithyia’s Day of the Midwives

Color: Red
Element: Earth
Altar: The altar shall be the same as Sponde the previous day.
Offerings: Give aid to a midwife.
Daily Meal: Center around milk and dairy products.

Ilithyia Invocation

Slim maiden with quick hands
That bring forth the life of others,
Daughter of Hera, child of marriage,
Daughter of Zeus, child of kingship,
Your hands reach forth
To every matron’s opening womb,
Bringing the new bride into the world of family,
Bringing the maiden into the time of mothering,
Bringing the tribe a new life.
Let us learn from you, maiden midwife!
For though we do sometimes find ourselves
Bringing new life into the world,
More often we kneel in your place,
As you kneel between the laboring woman’s thighs,
Watching the opening of the sacred door,
Kneeling in honor of the power of birth,
We find ourselves assisting in the birth
Of the others who struggle,
Who writhe and twist and despair of being done,
Who need out skilled hands, our urgent voices,
Our love and care and attention
That what must be birthed shall come to be.
Teach us, Ilithyia, of how to better hold the labor of another
In our waiting hands.

Chant:
From the dark of the womb we bring forth life
From the dark of the mind we bring forth light
From the dark of the dream we bring forth sight
From the dark of the Wheel we bring forth fate
From the dark of the night we bring forth day
From the dark of the heart we seek the way.

This Week’s Sky at a Glance, January 10 – 14

Black Cat BeautyThis Week’s Sky at a Glance, January 10 – 14

By: Alan MacRobert

Tuesday, January 10

• The Moon, nearly full, shines in the dim Club of Orion — with Betelgeuse to its lower right in early evening, Gemini’s Alhena closer to the Moon’s lower left, and Elnath in Taurus above it.

• Algol shines at minimum light, magnitude 3.4 instead of its usual 2.1, for a couple hours centered on 9:19 p.m. EST (6:19 p.m. PST).

Wednesday, January 11

• Full Moon tonight (exactly full at 6:34 a.m. Thursday morning EST). The Moon is in Gemini, with Castor and Pollux to its left and Procyon below or lower left of it.

Thursday, January 12

• Neptune is passing Venus. For North American observers they’ll appear closest this evening, about 0.4° apart, with Neptune to Venus’s lower left. Use high power to try to discern the nonstellar nature of its tiny disk, only 2.2 arcseconds wide. Venus is magnitude –4.5. Neptune, at magnitude 7.9, is about 100,000 times fainter!

• Jupiter is at western quadrature, 90° west of the Sun. So all this month, Jupiter’s western limb looks distinctly more shadowed in a telescope than its slightly more Sun-facing eastern limb.

Friday, January 13

• Here it is the coldest month of the year, but the “Summer Star,” Vega, is still barely hanging in there. Look for it twinkling over the northwest horizon during and shortly after nightfall. The farther north you are the higher it will be. If you’re too far south, it’s already gone.

Saturday, January 14

• The waning gibbous Moon shines near Regulus, after they rise around 8 p.m. Watch the distance between them increase through the night as the Moon moves east along its orbit.

A Very Good Tuesday Morning To All Our Brothers & Sisters of the Craft!

BLACK CATS ARE BEAUTIFUL...by Piedad5007Besom Chant

Besom, besom long and lithe
Made from ash and willow withe
Tied with thongs of willow bark
In running stream at moonset dark.
With a pentagram indighted
As the ritual fire is lighted;
Sweep ye circle, deosil,
Sweep out evil, sweep out ill,
Make the round of the ground
Where we do the Lady’s will.

Besom, besom, Lady’s broom
Sweep out darkness, sweep out doom
Rid ye Lady’s hallowed ground
Of demons, imps and Hell’s red hound;
Then set ye down on Her green earth
By running stream or Mistress’ hearth,
‘Till called once more on Sabbath night
To cleans once more the dancing site.

Explanation: What’s happening in the center of spiral NGC 5033? Many things — some circular, some energetic, and some not well understood. NGC 5033 is known as a Seyfert galaxy because of the great activity seen in its nucleus. Bright stars, dark dust, and interstellar gas all swirl quickly around a galactic center that appears slightly offset from a supermassive black hole. This offset is thought to be the result of NGC 5033 merging with another galaxy sometime in the past billion years. The featured image was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in 2005. NGC 5033 spans about 100,000 light years and is so far away that we see it only as it existed about 40 million years ago.
