There are always times, whether it’s New Year or not, when we have to let go of something that’s not working. Letting go of anything that’s become dear to you can be so hard. It can leave you feeling lost and out of balance with everything. As we travel on our journeys through this life, we will all have to face letting go of something. And with that fresh start, we face the challenge of a new way of living. The world around us is constantly changing. What may have been right for us or felt important to us in the past may not now have a place in our lives. Sometimes, the decision to leave things behind can be a hard one to make. So how do you know whether you are making the right decision to move on and let go?
If you are magically traveling your path, here are a few things you may want to consider as you leave things behind:
Is someone or something having a negative effect on your life?
Have you outgrown something, or grown apart from something?
Are you happy in your life as things are? Have your goals changed?
Do you live in the past? Hold a grudge? Are you in fear of things being different?
Are your needs being fulfilled? If you are starting on a new path, is something holding you back?

To boost your personal power and to have it up and running at top speed, you will need to get— well, for lack of a better word—“ personal,” and do a little soul-searching. After all, the best individual to transform your life and help you reclaim your own powers is, of course, you.
The power of the elements and all of nature is deep and infinite, and the following elemental information is not a 101 rehash. Truthfully, this type of knowledge is vital for everyone; this includes the more experienced or advanced practitioners too. For years I always thought that to be an “advanced Witch” meant you had somehow discovered all these phenomenal mysteries of the cosmos— when in actuality what you begin to discover is that those basic lessons you first learned have many hidden layers. The longer you study and practice, the more of those levels you will begin to explore and uncover. There truly are worlds within worlds.

Happy, Healthy Family Spell
You will need:
• A green 7-day jar candle (green for prosperity and to align with Jupiter’s energies)
• A permanent marker to draw Thursday’s planetary symbol of Jupiter (4) and the names of each household member
• A photo of your entire household (make sure all of the members are in the photo; if necessary, use a couple of photos to get your kids, spouse, and your pets)
• 3 oak leaves gathered from a living tree (oak leaves are linked to Thor as well as the planet Jupiter)
• i tumbled turquoise stone for prosperity and protection
• i small tumbled moonstone for loving emotions
• The Ten of Pentacles and Ten of Cups tarot cards
• A 6 x 6-inch square of green fabric or a green sachet bag
• i2 inches white satin ribbon
•A lighter or matches
If possible, set up this spell on a safe, flat surface where the light of the full moon illuminates your working area. If weather permits, this would be a nice spell to work outdoors-just be sure to move the candle indoors when you finish the spell. To start, take the marker and draw the planetary symbol of Jupiter on the jar candle.
Next, add the names of all the members of your household; this includes pets!
Place the candle and the other components of the spell on your working area. The stones can nestle around the jar candle. Lay the photo(s) of your family in the center of your altar, with the two tarot cards, the Ten of Cups/Cauldrons and the Ten of Pentacles, one on each side of the photos. Place the oak leaves above the photos and the cards. Keep the sachet bag or fabric and ribbon within reach.
Light the candle, and place your hands on the photos. Then repeat the spell verse:
Abundance flourishes on the night of the full moon
May the deities of Thursday heed this Witch’s tune
Thor, hear my call and bless my family
Bring us love, support, and prosperity
Keep us healthy, happy, and secure, come what may
As we stand strong together through all of our days.
Gather the photos, one of the oak leaves, and the two tumbled stones, and place them in the center of the fabric. Gather up the edges into a small bundle, and use the ribbon to tie it closed or place the items inside the sachet bag and pull the drawstring closed.
Knot the ribbon three times, and say:
By all the power of three times three
This magick strengthens my family.
Finally, close the spell with these lines:
May the full moon bless all of the ways
I work my witchery on this day.
Allow the candle to burn out in a safe place; it will take about a week. I typically put jar candles on my brick hearth, inside of a large cast-iron cauldron, so even if it somehow how got tipped over, the flame would stay contained in a fireproof area.
Clean up your other spell supplies. Save the two oak leaves and keep them for future magick. Return the cards to the tarot deck. Keep the bag with the photos, stones, and leaf together in a safe place until the next full moon. Then, on the night of the following full moon, open it up. Keep the photos and the crystals, and return the oak leaf to nature

Who are the experts, and what do they say? The International Astronmical Union (IAU) is the group that has taken it upon itself to name and define things in astronomy. But the IAU has been, so far, silent on the subject of supermoons, which, professional astronomers tend to call perigean full moons.
Meanwhile, Fred Espenak, the go-to astronomer on all things related to lunar and solar eclipses (Mr. Eclipse!) and an EarthSky partner, lists the full moons of January, November and December 2017 as full moon supermoons in his great post, Moon in 2017.
We also need to consider astrologer Richard Nolle. Whatever your thoughts or feelings are on astrology, Nolle is, after all, the person who coined the term supermoon. He lists only the December full moon as a supermoon in 2017. The supermoon definition, as originally defined by Nolle, comes with ambiguity. That’s why there are different answers to the question of the number of supermoons in 2017.
We refer you to two different supermoon tables for the 21st century (2001 to 2100). Here is Richard Nolle’s table, and here is Fred Espenak’s table.
Richard Nolle lists only one full moon supermoon for 2017:

Original definition of supermoon. Supermoons are based on lunar perigee and apogee. Each month, the moon comes closest to Earth at perigee and swings farthest away at apogee.
In his original definition, Richard Nolle defined a supermoon as:
… a new or full moon which occurs with the moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.
If a new or full moon aligns with apogee, then it’s at 0% of its closest approach to Earth. On the other hand, if a new or full moon aligns with perigee, then it’s at 100% of its closest approach to Earth. That’s something we can all agree on.
But the phrase 90% of perigee is ambiguous. Read on.
Nolle’s 90% is based on 2017’s closest perigee and farthest apogee. Looking at Richard Nolle’s list for all the supermoons in the 21st century, it appears that Richard Nolle bases his 90% figure on the year’s closest perigee and farthest apogee. Take the year 2017, for instance, whereby any new or full moon coming closer than 362,146.6 km qualifies as a supermoon.
This year, in 2017, the moon comes closest to Earth on May 26 (357,207 kilometers) and swings farthest away toward the end of the year, on December 19 (406,603 kilometers). That’s a difference of 49,396 km (406,603 – 357,207 = 49,396 km). Ninety percent of this 49,396-figure equals 44,456.4 kilometers (0.9 x 49,396 = 44,456.4). Presumably, any new or full moon coming closer than 362,146.6 kilometers (406,603 – 44,456.4 = 362,146.6) would be “at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth.”
Farthest apogee (2017): 406,603 km
Closest perigee (2017): 357,207 km
Difference: 49,396 km
90% x 49,396 = 44,456.4 km
406,603 – 44,456.4 = 362,146.6 km = 90% of moon’s closest distance to Earth
Thus, figuring out “90% of the moon’s closest approach to Earth” by the year’s closest perigee and farthest apogee, any new or full moon swinging closer than 362,146.6 km to Earth in 2017 counts as a supermoon.
Since the full moon on January 12, 2017 only comes within 366,880 km of Earth, it doesn’t count as a supermoon on Richard Nolle’s list.
Espenak’s 90% based on perigee and apogee of each month’s orbit. Ironically, Fred Espenak’s full supermoon list might more strictly adhere to Richard Nolle’s definition (at least as it is written) than Richard Nolle himself does.
Once again, Richard Nolle describes a supermoon as:
… a new or full moon which occurs with the Moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.
If given orbit can be taken to mean current monthly orbit, then the January 2017 full moon comes to within 91.3% of its closest approach to Earth relative to the January perigee and apogee.
January 2017 apogee: 404,914 km
January 2017 perigee: 363,238 km
Difference: 41,676 km
January 2017 apogee: 404,914 km
January 2017 full moon: 366,880 km
Difference: 38,034 km
38,034/41,676 = 0.9126 (91.26%) = distance of the January 2017 full moon relative to the January 2017 perigee and apogee
Depending on what meaning we give to the words in a given orbit, we could say the January apogee = 0% of the moon’s closest approach to Earth for January 2017, and the January perigee = 100% of the moon’s closest approach to Earth for January 2017.
That being the case, then the January full moon comes to within 91.26% of its closest approach to Earth for the month of January: 38,034/41,676 = 0.9126 = 91.26%
January full moon’s distance relative to 2017’s closest perigee / farthest apogee. However, if we compute the percentage distance of the January full moon relative to the year’s farthest apogee and closest perigee, then the January full moon only comes to within 80.42% of its closest approach to Earth:
Farthest apogee (2017): 406,603 km
Closest perigee (2017): 357,207 km
Difference: 49,396 km
Farthest apogee (2017): 406,603 km
January full moon (2017): 366,880 km
Difference: 39,723 km
39,723/49,396 = 0.80417 (80.42%) = distance of the January full moon relative to the year’s farthest apogee and closest perigee
Is the January full moon a supermoon? Depends on which perigee/apogee distances you choose. The moon’s monthly perigee and apogee distances vary throughout the year, so it appears that the limiting distance for the supermoon depends on which perigee and apogee distances are being used to compute 90% of the moon’s closest approach to Earth.
If we choose the year’s closest perigee and farthest apogee, as Nolle did, we narrow the definition of supermoon.
If we choose the perigee and apogee for a given monthly orbit, as Espenak did, then we broaden the definition of supermoon.
Given the narrower definition, the full moon on January 12, 2017 is not a supermoon, but given the broader one, it is.
Take your choice!
Bottom line: At least two commentators – Richard Nolle and Fred Espenak – disagree on whether the January 12, 2017 full moon should be called a supermoon. Is it? If you define a supermoon based on the year’s closest perigee and farthest apogee, then the January 2017 fullmoon is not a supermoon. If you define a supermoon based on the perigee and apogee for a given monthly orbit, then it is a supermoon.
These cards represent strengths you were born with.
The Hanged Man
The Hanged Man is the most enigmatic card of the Tarot. Even Tarot giants like Waite, Crowley and Levi had trouble deciphering The Hanged Man’s true meaning. Generally The Hanged Man is thought to represent the value of surrender and selfless acts. The Hanged Man embodies the notion that sometimes to lose is to win. Unlike the aggressive Chariot, The Hanged Man creates his fate through inaction and accepts his fortune passively, without resistance. He does not struggle to control the path his life takes, but rather allows events to sweep him where they will, even if he is called upon to sacrifice himself. He is so at ease with the Fate the Universe chose for him that even hanging upside down from a tree does not ruffle his inner peace.
When The High Priestess or Strength is among your personal cards, the influence of The Hanged Man may be increased. Having The Magus or Chariot in your personal cards may diminish the influence of The Hanged Man.
The Empress
The Empress is “The Earth Mother” of the Tarot. She embodies all that is nurturing, clean and wholesome. Her powers resonate from her drive to create and care for life on a grand scale. She is in tune with Nature’s rhythm and realizes that life’s most pleasurable moments often stem from the simplest things. She is not afraid to enjoy herself–to let loose—to the point of being lavish. Abundance and luxury are important to her. The Empress is completely comfortable with her femininity and her sexuality. She is sensual, earthy, generous, and likes the good life. Still, her driving force is a need to create and nurture, and fulfilling this need overrides everything else.
When The Lover or The Star are among your personal cards, the influence of The Empress may be increased. Having the Emperor or Death in your personal cards may diminish the influence of The Empress.
The Emperor is blessed with the skills to successfully lead others. He can turn chaos into order and provide structure to that which is unbound. He is quick of mind and confident in his power and right to rule, and does so in a just manner. Although stern by nature, he truly is the ultimate father figure. He will provide as needed, teach those with unanswered questions, protect the vulnerable, set and maintain boundaries. His perfect world runs on schedule and is free of any disturbances. What the Emperor must be wary of is setting boundaries and rules where none are needed. If he isn’t careful not to over use his powers he may well become a tyrant.
The Daily Witches Rune
The Crossed Spears
Meaning: The presence of the spear signifies arguments, negative events, and all manner of strife of an upsetting nature. However similar to the ‘Tower’ tarot card if next to a positive rune it could mean the end of an argument or quarrel. If with the rings it means the healing or renewal of a relationship. If there are military connections it could mean promotion. If illness is within the equation it means a speedy and successful recovery.
General Meaning
The Judgement card, sometimes called “Resurrection,” represents the great reunion that the ancients believed would happen once in every age. This was the time when souls are harvested and taken home to their place of origin, outside the solar system. Then the world is seeded with a batch of new souls and the process starts over.
From a modern point of view, this great reunion — which includes every personality that you have ever been and every soul that you have done deep work with — reunites to consciously complete the process. In a way, we symbolically celebrate this returning to center every year on our birthday.
In personal terms, the Judgment Tarot card points to freedom from inner conflicts, and so clear a channel, that the buried talents and gifts of past incarnations can come through an individual in this lifetime. This card counsels you to trust the process of opening yourself, because what emerges is of consistently high quality. You can effortlessly manifest as a multi-dimensional being, and assist in evoking that response from others.
In the Advice Position
Let go of your past. The future welcomes you with a bounty of growth and change.
The card in the Advice position suggests a course of action which will harmonize what you want with what is currently possible.
The Judgment card advises that you allow yourself to grow, transform, and release hidden potentials within yourself. Divest yourself of fruitless endeavors without neglecting your duties. At the same time, invest your energies in new growth.
