Flower Petal Spell Paper

Its time to break out the fun stuff guys! Magick User’s University is all about interesting crafts that can be useful during your travel through the world of Magick. Today, we’re going to focus on a project of making Flower Petal Spell Paper today in Spellcraft 101.
+ So what is Flower Petal Spell Paper?
Well, its a fancy name for paper with flower petals in it. There are a lot of great things you can use it for besides spellcraft, such as scrapbooking, making bookmarks, and other crafts. It all depends on how many flower petals you put in it, and exactly what purpose this paper is for.
+ Flower Petal Spell Paper +
The Flower Petal Spell Paper is great for spellcraft and writing, as well as looking generally beautiful for any papercraft you have in mind.
+ Materials +
Flower Petals (in any color!)
Any kind of paper (construction, newspaper, etc)
Scissors
Duct tape
Window screen (or anything like that)
Towels
Bowls
Blender
The Flower Petal Spell Paper will be used for a particular endeavor in particular: making earth spells. For these particular spells, you write out an endeavor, wish, or project that you would like to see come true or flourish, and then you bury the small spell paper in the ground in efforts to promote your desires! Its a great gift for someone, or just to keep for yourself. Below I’ll have a few suggestions written out in case you would like to present them as gifts.
+ One: Time for the hunt! Even as witches, most people are more likely to spend their time indoors (I know I do). So, time to go out and take a walk! Collect as many flower petals as you can! In efforts to help with my enthusiasm, I took a few plastic cups with me (along with my darling Lore), and we set out on the journey of collecting flowers.

+ Two: After collecting your bounty, head back. Cut out a square of screen, and fold the duct tape around the edges to form a stable frame. If you want, you can use something like popsicle sticks to make a frame and tape around that.
+ Three: Once you’ve made your screen, tear up some paper and stick it in the blender. Cover it with enough water to saturate the paper. And then! Whirl away, until its a nice, thin porridge/oatmeal like substance.
As for me, I actually don’t own a blender, so I got to watch Lore use one of her top-notch cooking utensils and beat away. She did a good job.
You’ll actually want it a bit more thin than the end result here… but this was as good as we were getting without a blender. Anyway, it will work just fine, but the paper won’t be as fine and thin (though I was surprised at how nice it turned out regardless). At this point, mix in the flower petals with the soupy substance and get it nice and mixed in there. If you have anything else, like seeds, this is the time to do it as well! You can also add a hint of cinnamon in order to make it smell nice!
+ Four: Using a spoon, spoon some of the mixture onto the frame. Smooth it out, using the back of the spoon to press out some of the water through the screen. Make sure to push any of the mixture off the frame and onto the screen.
+ Five: After getting the mix onto the screen, very, very carefully tip the screen over onto a towel (mixture down). Put another towel over and and press down on it to get rid of the excess water. Hold it for at least thirty seconds, continually dabbing. Once you’ve cone that, very slowly peel the screen away, until on the towel you have this!
Pretty neat, huh? Continue this process until you’ve finished with all of the paper.
+ Six: Once you’ve finished, transfer them carefully to a cookie sheet and leave them to dry outside. And you’re done! Now you have it! Gorgeous flower petal spell paper!
So what do you do with it afterwards?
If you’re planning on giving it as a small little gift to a friend, something general and heartfelt is always a great way to go. You can even write them instructions on a separate sheet of paper, telling them what to do with the spell paper. Tear the sheets into thin strips. On the paper itself, in ink, you can write either a notion, or a spell! Listed below are a few ideas. Think about what the person you are giving it to might need and attempt to cater it to them!

February Birthstone – Amethyst

 

The gemstone representing the month of February is the Amethyst.  It is also a representative of the Zodiac stone for the constellation of Pisces.  Amethyst is a variation of quartz, and is identified by its long prismatic crystals.  These crystals have six sides at each end that can only show their color at the tips.  Though it can come in many shades, it is only identified as the color purple.  Depending on where they originate, this gemstone is unique to its region and the mine from which it came from. Amethyst has been found in Mexico, Brazil, Namibia, Zambia and also mined in the United States from North Carolina and Maine.

In the most of the northern hemisphere, the month of February can be a one of the coldest and darkest during the winter season. During this time many suffer bouts of depression and sadness. It comes as no surprise then, the Amethyst can be given as a gift to lift a loved ones spirits so that their birth-month can be a time of celebration, even in the darkest of times. It is more than well-known that specific gemstones have been designated to symbolize our birth-month. Each gemstone in the Gregorian calendar offer certain gifts of positive energy to their owners according to the season and time of year. When one is in touch with the specific powers and special energies from each precious stone, they will be gifted with many positive attributes to last throughout their lives.

The name “amethyst” is Greek for “not drunken”, and believed that it would deter the effects of drinking alcohol in excess.  In saying this, it comes as no surprise that it symbolizes sobriety, which in turn might bring one wisdom and security.  A Greek, mythological story tells that, Dionysus, the god of intoxication, one day had been outraged by an insult from a mortal he had encountered, who then created Tigers to deal his wish to have revenge on the mortal.  Amethyst, a young maiden who was on her way to pay tribute to the goddess Diana, happened to appear in her path en route.  She turned a statue in to a crystalline quartz, so as to protect Amethyst from the apparent danger.  At the sight of the beautiful stone, she cried tears of wine.  Her tears stained the quartz purple, then was born amethyst.

The color purple in itself was the color of royalty, making the Amethyst noble enough to have been worn by powerful monarchs.  They are inlaid on the British Crown Jewels and were also the  beloved gemstone of Egyptian Royalty and Catherine the Great.  It is the stone of Bishops and is the symbol of piety.  For those who might receive an amethyst as a gift, it is also the symbol to create calmness and tranquility, it also grants balance in emotional times.  It was also worn to protect soldiers from the weapons of war and to give them victory over their enemies, also to ensure luck to hunters that they might have a successful kill.

The February birthstone of amethyst is also referred to as the “stone of lovers” and is the stone of St. Valentine, who is told to have always worn it.  During the days of romance and chivalry in the Middle ages, an amethyst in the shape of a heart created the greatest earthly passion a couple to remain in love  for the rest of their lives.

For those born in the month of January, the gemstone is garnet. Hindu religion will also recognize the serpent stone for this month, but for modern, Western society, the garnet is most familiar. Most people recognize this precious stone as a deep, almost blood red crystal. However, garnets can be found in brown, black, orange, pink, green, and yellow. With some more rare ones found with no color, though blues tend to be the most rare. Because they are more well-known for their red hue, the origin of the word, garnet, or, ´gernet´, is derived from Old English, meaning dark red. It has been adored for over five-thousand years. In Europe (where is was easily found), during the Victorian Ear, it was traditionally cut in the shape of a rose and linked with other delicately faceted gems.

In the first century, a Jewish historian by the name of Josephus, stated there was a connection with the twelve stones on the breastplate of Aaron, and the twelve months of the year. In the earlier civilizations of Babylon and India, gemstones have been known to attribute magical properties in connection to their significance of the Zodiac calendar. It is believed that the gemstones for each month aligns with the season, our spiritual and mental energy, religion, magical powers, and even the power to aid in ailing health or allow us to maintain our health.

The Latin word “granatus”, meaning grain or seed, might make one think about the seeds of the pomegranate fruit. According to Greek mythology, Hades, god of the underworld, gifted Persephone a pomegranate before she returned to the earth to visit her mother, Demeter. As she had been a kidnapped goddess forced to be his queen, the gift of this fruit ensured that she would return to him safely after four months time.

In the Antique Roman period, garnets were also used to symbolize areas in which they had taken control. These stones were inlaid in cells of gold using the ´cloisonne´method, utilizing enamel to strengthen the inlay. The artifacts of what the Romans left behind have been found in Anglo-Saxon England to the Black Sea.

Some other interesting facts about the garnet: The darker, more opaque stones of the garnet family are used in ´garnet paper´as an abrasive, the favorite among cabinetmakers. When mixed with water and high pressure, they can also be used to cut steel. It is the state gemstone of Idaho and Arizona, but can be found in India, Russia, Africa, the rivers of Australia, and South America.

Garnets, the January birthstone, have been used to encourage a heightened sense of sensuality and sexuality, with Metaphysical properties strengthening regenerative powers of the body, commitment, and giving insight to healing thoughts.

More symbolically, as a gift it represents constancy, and it utilized to balance one´s yin and yang energy. If you are one that experiences restless sleep due to bad dreams, you might use a garnet under your pillow to ward off these bad dreams and the evil spirits that might the cause of them. It is also meant to cure any inflammatory disorders of the body, stops hemorrhaging, and brings a silence to anger and emotional discord. With these powerful, life-balancing abilities, it is no surprise that people born in the month of January are described as, ambitious, and natural-born leaders. People with these characteristics might be individuals who travel and explore. The gift of a garnet will be a protective gem of these journeyers, a gift of love and a desire that they have safe travels and return soon.

The January birthstone garnet have unique light transmission qualities, and some garnets seem to change color in various light conditions.  With daylight conditions some garnets have many different colors, but in incandescent light they generally appear reddish or pink/purple in color.  Garnets that are more opaque (less color) are often the ones used for industrial purposes instead of those that are used as gemstones most commonly those that appear in shades of green, red, orange, and yellow.

Awaken the Magick! Spell

To help you awaken your inner magick you can cast this easy spell.

Start by gathering together the following items:

  • an empty notebook (you will call this your Magickal Diary)
  • and a blue pen

Then, on the day or evening of the moon (Monday) take a bath or shower first to help cleanse and purify your aura and after you get dressed in some clean comfortable clothes, find a quiet place in your home where you can be undisturbed for at least half an hour and place the notebook and pen onto a table or a flat surface and sit down nearby.

Close your eyes for a few moments while you take deep relaxing breaths and imagine that you feel and see a white light surrounding you and filling you with a feeling of peace and happiness.

Next, open your eyes and then open the first page of the notebook and with your pen draw the shape of a square or rectangle on the page and look into the square while you imagine that this is a doorway and it is opening up and you are stepping through the door.

The door to the magic within you is always open, if you are open to yourself and the magic of the world around you...

Let yourself relax and feel happy and uplifted as you imagine that your mind is stepping through that doorway into a sunny garden that is full of your favorite plants and flowers, (you may even see some fairies and unicorns there too) and let yourself stay in that enchanted place and have fun imagining for a while as you say these words,

“To the left and right of me, Above and below me, I awaken the spirit of nature and magick within me.”

When you feel you are ready, let your mind come back through the door and close the notebook and say

“I am a wonderful child of the Universe, and so will it be.”

When you finished your spell, you can write the words, My Magickal Diary, or whatever words you like on the front cover and keep this book as your enchanted workbook for spells and wishes.

Explanation: In only about 12,000 years Vega will be the North Star, the closest bright star to our fair planet’s North Celestial Pole. By then, when you fix your camera to a tripod long exposures of the night sky will show the concentric arcs of star trails centered on a point near Vega as Earth rotates on its axis. Of course, presently the bright star conveniently near the North Celestial Pole is Polaris, but that will change as the Earth’s axis of rotation precesses, like the wobble of a spinning top with a precession period of about 26,000 years. If your camera is ready now and you don’t want to wait 12,000 years for Vega to be the North Star, consider this ingenious demonstration of contemporary star trails (left) versus star trails reminiscent of the year 14000 CE. Both were recorded this April at the Alqueva Dark Sky Reserve in Alentejo, Portugal. To produce the more Vega-centric star trails of the distant future, astronomer Miguel Claro combined the rotation of two startracking camera mounts to create the apparent shift in planet Earth’s axis of rotation and North Celestial Pole. (Addendum: Thanks to APOD readers who note that when Vega is the North Star it will also appear near the same position that Polaris is now relative to the landscape.)

Astrological tradition says that Mars the Warrior is not comfortable in bucolic Taurus. The reasoning is simply that this planet of “go” isn’t at its best in the sign of “go slow, go very slow.” Earthy Taurus is a fixed sign. It occupies the middle of the spring (in the Northern Hemisphere) and symbolizes the sweetness of burgeoning plant life. Taurus doesn’t want to go anywhere. It’s fine where it is.

The challenge is that Mars doesn’t like to stand still. It lives for action, not the couch potato life of Taurus. It may, therefore, be a bit more difficult to get new projects off the ground. This is a period in which a solid foundation and a plentiful supply of fuel are required to get your rocket off the launch pad.

Mars is also the planet of anger. The Bull is basically a very calm beast. It can take considerable poking and prodding before its ire is raised, but when it is, look out! Personally, you may find this to be a time when you’d prefer to avoid confrontation. It’s easier to duck a fight now than meet your opponent face to face. Yet, resentment doesn’t disappear when the cause is not confronted. It just goes underground where it is much more dangerous than an open display of anger. But Mars in Taurus also needs to know when to end the battle, rather than prolonging it endlessly.

A key to success now is to be solidly rooted before reaching out in a new direction. When Mars in Taurus has its feet on the ground, there is no limit as to how far it can go. It is motivated not by hunger, fear or desire. It is motivated by the joy of building, creating and the intrinsic joy of the work itself. Taking pleasure in your job not only makes life nicer, but can make you much more productive.

Taurus, in the end, is about personal values. Actions need to align with individual needs if they’re going to amount to anything. It takes a great deal to move Mars when in this sign, but there can be incredible strength and endurance when the right path has been opened. Look at what you’ve begun recently with Mars in Aries (February 11 – March 22). This fiery sword has cut sharply, making room for the Mars in Taurus steamroller to come through. The road is wide, enjoy the ride.

A good many dancers were born with Mars in Taurus, perhaps a reflection of the principle of pleasure (Taurus) through movement (Mars). Among them are Paula Abdul, Maurice Bejart, Merce Cunningham, Shirley MacLaine, Rudolph Nureyev and Ginger Rogers.

Mars in Taurus poets include Robert Bly, Robert Frost, Omar Khayam, Henry David Thoreau and Paul Verlaine. Some not so sweet guys in this category are Nazis Martin Bormann, Adolph Eichman and Adolph Hitler, as well as Fidel Castro and Ruhollah Khomeini.

Taurus is associated with the throat, so it’s not surprising to find singers Belinda Carlisle, Celine Dion, Wynona Judd, Chaka Khan, Carole King, Ann Murray, Leontyne Price, Pat Boone, Glen Campbell, Mick Jagger, Billy Joel, Dean Martin and Graham Nash with Mars in this sign. Mars in Taurus painters are Salvadore Dali, James McNeill Whistler, Andy Warhol, Paul Klee and Edgar Degas.

Actors with Mars in Taurus are Tom Cruise, Jamie Lee Curtis, Bette Davis, Robert DeNiro, Sidney Poitier, Jack Lemmon and Charlie Chaplin. There is also that giant of jazz John Coltrane and the great spiritual teacher Rudolph Steiner.
