Magickal Goody of the Day for April 27th – Image Love Charm

Magickal Goody of the Day

Image Love Charm

Carve, sew, or otherwise construct an image of yourself as your finest, physically speaking. Pour into it all of your good points, as well as your bad. Embody the image with your spirit, your life force, your total being. When you look at its face, however crude and unfinished it may seem to be, see your own face.

When finished put it in a safe place. Next, of the same material fashion an image of your ideal love. This shouldn’t be a specific person, of course, but a composite of everything you are looking for in a mate. Though you are only fashioning its outline or rough features implant in it physical, spiritual, emotional and other intellectual qualities, habits, and goals in life and any particulars that appeal or are important to you.

When both images are finished, take a pink or red thread or cord and tie them loosely together, place them in a spot where they will not be disturbed for several weeks, but not in a box or other constricting place. Someone will come to you and after that it will be up to the two of you.

Spells of this nature draw many people to you, and one or two of these may become good friends. A more personal relationship might develop out of one of these, which may eventually lead to love. If it does, but the relationship ends, unbind the images, carefully dismantle the one of the perfect love and begin anew.

The same is true if you fine no lover. But wait at least three months. A spell of this type doesn’t force the person to fall in love with you; it simply expands your circle of friends. Any person you meet will be under no magical pressure or force to love you; that you will have to do on your own.

Herb of the Day for April 27th – Eucalyptus

Herb of the Day

Eucalyptus

Medicinal Uses: Eucalyptus oil is a powerful antiseptic, and is used to treat pyorrhea (gum disease), and is used on burns to prevent infections. The oil breathed in will help clear the sinuses, as will the steam from boiling the leaves. The leaves and their preparations have been successfully used as a tonic and gently stimulating stomachic, in atonic dyspepsia, and in catarrh of the stomach and typhoid fever; also advised in mucous catarrhal affections generally; in pseudo-membranous laryngitis, in asthma, with profuse secretion, and in chronic bronchitis, with or without emphysema, and in whooping-cough; it has likewise proved efficient in chronic catarrh of the bladder, where the urine is high-colored, contains an abnormal amount of mucus, or, perhaps, some purulent matter, and micturation is attended with much pain.

When mixed with water or vegetable oils, it makes a good insect repellant. A small drop on the tongue eases nausea. Externally applied, the oil gives relief in some forms of neuralgic and rheumatic pains. The oil is often combined with Thymus.

Magickal uses: Healing energies come from the leaves. A branch or wreath over the bed of a sick person will help spread the healing energies. The oil is added to healing baths, and for purifications. Stuff healing poppets and carry for good health. Ringing three green candles with the leaves and pods may relieve colds. Then burn the candles all the way to the socket while visualizing the inflicted person. For sore throats, wear a necklace made of the green pods, strung on green thread. Place pods beneath your pillow to protect against colds. Carry the leaves for protection.

Properties:Antiseptic, deodorant, expectorant, stimulant, anti-microbial, anti-spasmodic, febrifuge.

Contains volatile oil, the major component of which is l,8-cineole (=eucalyptol), 70-85%; with terpineole, a-pinene, p-cymene and small amounts of sesquiterpenes such as ledol, aromadendrene and viridoflorol; aldehydes, ketones and alcohols. Polyphenolic acids; caffeic, ferulic, gallic, protocatechuic and others. And flavonoids including eucalyptin, hyperoside and rutin.

Growth: Eucalyptus reigns among the tallest trees in the world, capable of reaching heights of over 250 feet tall. It thrives only in areas where the average temperature remains above 60 degrees, and is adaptable to several soil conditions. The trunk is covered with peeling papery bark. The leaves on the young plant, up to 5 years old, are opposite, sessile, soft, oblong, pointed, and a hoary blue color. The mature leaves are alternate, petioled, leathery, and shaped like a scimitar. The flowers are solitary, axillary, and white, with no petals and a woody calyx. The fruit is a hard, four-celled, many-seeded capsule enclosed in the calyx cup.

Boil mature leaves In water and condense the vapor to recover the oil.

An infusion may be made with 1-2 teaspoonfuls of the leaves to a cup of boiling water. Let infuse for 10-15 minutes. The dose of tincture is 1 ml. three times a day.

Astronomy Picture of the Day – The Flame Nebula in Visible and Infrared

Astronomy Picture of the Day

Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer.

The Flame Nebula in Visible and Infrared
Image Credit & Copyright: Optical (RGB+Ha): Aldo Mottino & Ezequiel Bellocchio (Argentina); Infrared: ESO/J. Emerson/VISTA.

Explanation: What lights up the Flame Nebula? Fifteen hundred light years away towards the constellation of Orion lies a nebula which, from its glow and dark dust lanes, appears, on the left, like a billowing fire. But fire, the rapid acquisition of oxygen, is not what makes this Flame glow. Rather the bright star Alnitak, the easternmost star in the Belt of Orion visible just to the right of the nebula, shines energetic light into the Flame that knocks electrons away from the great clouds of hydrogen gas that reside there. Much of the glow results when the electrons and ionized hydrogen recombine. The above false-color picture of the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024) was taken is a composite of both visible and infrared light, the later energy band being where a young star cluster becomes visible. The Flame Nebula is part of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, a star-forming region that includes the famous Horsehead Nebula.

Venus in Gemini

Now Until May 7, 2015

The beauty of Venus entering Gemini is that the winds of attraction may blow in many directions. New perspectives on love become more possible. This is, ideally, a time to discuss relationships with the clarity and openness for which Gemini is known. This air sign supports the objectivity needed to see complex issues of partnership without emotional distortion.

Venus in Gemini places value on words and communication of all kinds. Attraction to gadgets, books, classes and learning tools may be greater than usual now. Depth is not the strong point here. Both Venus and Gemini can be dilettantes, flitting from one thing to another with barely a moment’s rest. Lovely Venus in this butterfly sign may be a bit flirtatious. Understand that we all need diversions. Enjoy the playfulness possible now, just don’t take it seriously. It’s a time of tasting, rather than testing.

The great gift of this period is a willingness to set aside old rules about what you like and dislike. Life is a great cornucopia of flavors, meant to awaken as much as to comfort. You can use this time to drop some of your social and aesthetic rules. Beauty, pleasure and personal values, you may discover, come in an infinite variety of shapes, colors and sizes.

Unsurprisingly, Venus in Gemini shows up in the birth charts of a wide variety of individuals. There are beauties Naomi Campbell, Uma Thurman, Brooke Shields and Candace Bergen and funny folks Bill Cosby, Joan Rivers, Dudley Moore and Ringo Starr. There are singers ranging from the religious Cat Stevens and Roger McGuinn to socially conscious Bono and style conscious Cher.

Healers Benjamin Spock and Elisabeth Kubler-Ross were born with Venus in Gemini, as was “hurter” Mike Tyson. Artist Frida Kahlo, poet Gary Snyder and designer Georgio Armani add style to this group. Actors Harrison Ford, Al Pacino and Omar Sharif were also born with Venus in Gemini, as were newsman Edward R. Murrow, Virgin tycoon Richard Branson and both Jacqueline and John F. Kennedy.

Your Ancient Symbol Card for April 27th is Venus

Your Ancient Symbol Card for Today

Venus

Venus represents those qualities we commonly associate with the female/yin persona. Venus traits include fertility and the drive to create, unblemished beauty, love, passion, and togetherness. The occurrence of Venus denotes the dominating presence or need of the qualities listed above. While often very subtle, Venetian influences may have a negative impact unless they are balanced with an influence that can temper the drive of Venus.

As a daily card, Venus suggest you should allow your more feminine traits to guide your actions through this period. Subtlety, efforts to bring people together and allowing your creativity to run free are likely to serve you well at this time. However, like Mars, the powers of Venus are very strong and can do more damage than good if not balanced by other influences.

Your Daily Rune for April 27th is Laguz

bw-laguzbw-laguzYour Rune For Today
Laguz

Laguz is the feminine Rune. It denotes a deep sexuality and fertility. Laguz also represents that which is ever changing and renewal. You may be in a tremendous spiritual growth period.

Additional Information about the Rune, Laguz courtesy of The Runic Journey

laguz : water

Phonetic equivalent: l

DIVINATORY MEANINGS:
emotions, fears, unconscious mind, things hidden, revelation, intuition, counselling

MAGICAL USES:
enhancing psychic abilities, confronting fears, stabilizing mental or emotional disorders, uncovering hidden things

ASSOCIATED MYTHS & DEITIES:
Njord, Midgard Serpent

ANALYSIS:
When most people think of water, they generally think of its more pleasant associations – peacefulness, love, compassion, intuition, and the emotions in general. However, we must remember that, to the Norse, water most often meant the sea, and the sea was a terrifying, unpredictable place, home of the Midgard serpent and the grave of many sailors. Laguz, then, should be thought of in terms of the lighter and the darker sides of the element of water. It speaks to our primal fears of the dark, the cold, and all those terrifying things hidden deep within our subconscious minds.
Like eihwaz, which forced the journeyer to confront his or her mortality, laguz makes us examine the underlying roots of our personality and behavior, and allows us to modify those aspects which are hindering our spiritual development. The understanding and wisdom gained through eihwaz and the runes which followed have prepared the journeyer to face this darker side (represented by laguz) and accept it as an integral part of their selves. Laguz also prepares the person to take on the task of helping others through this self-examination process, allowing them to empathize more strongly and share their own experiences, making it (among other things) the rune of the spiritual counsellor.

Your Personal Tarot Power Cards for April 27th

Your Power Cards

This drawing represent strengths you were born with.

The Hierophant

The Hierophant represents the protector of a culture’s heritage and traditions. His purpose is to defend and teach the established ways and beliefs a group embraces. He is inherently conventional and a true believer in the power of the group. He loves the structure of the group and its values. It is the task of The Hierophant to bring new members into the group—to prepare the uninitiated to take their rightful place in his culture. In this sense he is very much like a teacher or a priest. He also acts as the repository of his group’s history. The Hierophant is certainly not one to buck proper authority. However, he is staunch and worthy defender of the tried and true. He represents the positive aspects of conformity.

When The Emperor is among your personal cards, the influence of The Hierophant may be increased. Having The Fool or The Lovers in your personal cards may diminish the influence of The Hierophant.

The Magus

The Magus is the physical embodiment of decisive action based upon knowledge and aimed squarely at specific goals. While firmly set in the material world, he none-the-less has a powerful spiritual connection as well. His knowledge, wisdom and skill are all encompassing. He is complete. His power as a creator is unmatched on our earthly plane. He is self-aware and unafraid to act. His enormous strength gives him the freedom to act as he chooses. However, responsibility comes with that freedom. Because he is not bound to the restraints of others he must choose how to act. The question that always lies before him is should he act morally, or forsake ethics for personal gain.

When The Chariot is among your personal cards, the influence of The Magus may be increased. Having The Empress or Hanged Man in your personal cards may diminish the influence of The Magus.
